Saving Backup of Autosave

I have the new OS Lion and Pages. When I begin working on a document and save it for the first time it then begins to start saving automatically, as the new Lion feature suggests. However, sometimes on documents that I close and reopen at a later time, it will begin to save a completely new file in the same location with the same name; but with 'Backup' before it. This is annoying in the fact that I now have 2 files that are identical. Why is Lion doing this and how do I make it stop?

It's not Lion, it's that you selected a Pages preference which, as far as I know, is disabled by default.

Specify location of backup and autosave files?

I'm still new to FrameMaker but making steady progress. I am transitioning over from Word and things are going well.
Here's one feature I miss from Word: The ability to tell Framemaker where to store the backup and autosave files. My book has 40 documents which translates to 120 files inside my folder. Could this be done in FM 12?

How to turn off eps saving backup file as filename -01.eps?

Hi all,
I'm not at sure how I came about this/which box was ticked in saving options but whenever I save eps files, Illustrator will also save another backup file with '-01' after the filename and before the extension '.eps'. Also, whenever I save the document (as opposed to 'save as') a dialogue box will appear asking me if I want to replace the already existing file. Obviously I do.
My question is: How do I turn this option off?
NOTE: as far as I know, this problem of mine is only limited to .eps files, or more precisely it doesn't seem to happen when saving .ai files.

ICal freezes while saving backup file

I want to migrate from my iTunes account to my MobileMe/iCloud account. But before I can do that, I need to create a backup of my calendars. My problem is though, that iCal constantly freezes when I'm saving the backup file (via File > Export > iCal Archive…) and I have to force quit it after a while.
Any suggestions?

I've tried EVERYTHING, and this is a consistent problem across the years. What the **** is wrong? I can archive the calendar, even share it on iCloud, but it's nearly impossible to export!
I heard one way to do it is to delete most of your past events, but I need to keep records of where I've been and such. APPLE....SOLVE THIS! It's been a problem since 2008!

Logic is crashing on me, and not saving backups!

For some reason , no backups are being created like they used to be. It's the second time I've lost work and it's such a punch in the gut.
I'm still on 8.2 , but this should not be happening... automatic backup should be happening once i have saved a version, it's ridiculous! if there's a setting somewhere can someone help me out?

You'll need to save often.(Cmd +S)
In Logic Pro 9 i can go to *Logic Pro>Preferences>General>Project Handling> Auto backup* and select how many versions i'd like to save(if that's what you mean)I can not find that option in my version of LP8(8.0.2)

Help! Recovering after hard drive crash? Saving backups??

My drive crashed a few weeks ago and I lost everything I'd created with iWeb 2008. I downloaded all the files from my website, thinking I could just recompile it in iWeb, but iWeb doesn't even have and "open file" option. Am I just screwed? Do I have to start over from scratch?
Also, why doesn't iWeb allow you to save a backup of your working document??? If I could have done that, I wouldn't be in this mess!

Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

Time Machine not saving backups to HD

My Time Machine has lost all the backups before 3/11/13 (except for the initial BU) and my HD backup "recent" file quits backing up on 3/11/13. What has happened? I think I did a "restore" about that time but don't remember what or why.

I have ipod classic (about 3 yrs old) and when recharging, everything on it is gone. When I tried copying the saved/backup items, itunes and ipod were stuck...doing nothing/frozen. Help!

I have an ipod classic which I had bought about 3 years ago. I plugged it into my computer this past weekend to charge and it showed me that there were nothing on it...no music, no movies, no photos, nada. I had updated the program on my computer and when I tried to reload all the stuff that I had saved, it locks up my itunes and ipod. It doesn't do anything! I don't know what is going on....Help!? Anyone!? Any clues?

Which version of iTunes are you using? (most probably the latest, a lot of this hung iTunes coming in)
Which iPod software is shown on the iTunes summary screen?

Connect it to iTunes via a USB2.0 port (For Mac please dont use the Keyboard USB port and for MB, only one USB port is for iPod, the other will freeze your iTunes as the resource bus is shared with other devices )
Then update the iPod software or Restore the iPod.
Try to disconnect your iPod from the PC, if you are not charging or Syncing the iPod, or else, some Apps will just trigger a Restore and delete you iPod.
For Mac users, who has a FAT32 iPod, you may find iTunes Restoring it to HPS+ if you leave it connected overnight.
For Windows users, some Winsock layer conflict with iTunes will trigger the Restore.

My iPhone 4 running iOS 7.0.4 deleted all of my stored notes, I'm currently restoring to see if I can retrieve them, is there any way I can restore a specific saved backup?

So, I just went into my iPhone notes (iPhone 4 iOS 7.0.4), and found that all my notes had been deleted. I did recdently change the mail account I was using, could that be the issue? I'm very worried as I had some bank details and other personal information stored in these notes. Is there any way I can select a specific stored backup to restore from?

Well, in iTunes, if you had not changed to sync notes to Outlook, that would answer that question. I sync my notes to my Outlook and have never had an issue. The only thing you need to watch is your archive setting. If you have notes set to archive after a certain amount of time, you will find that after non-use on the iPhone, they can seem to disappear. They will just not sync back, but are kept in the archive of Outlook. They are never deleted unless you actually delete them.

Saving backup folder on Time Machine

My external disk is my backup for Maverick; I thought I saw a post recently that explained how to save the Maverick backup folder to the desktop in order to be able to go back to it if I erased the backup disk to use on Yosemite. I haven't downloaded the new system yet-- still on Maverick. I recall that one of the instructions was to turn off Time Machine, but I don't remember the rest.

Is this on the Time Capsule??

Saving backup

Okay I have finished editing in iMovie. I have what is the best quality format to save for future burning to DVD? (1) dump to tape, (2) save full quality Quicktime, (3) Save imovie full quality.

All three methods are valid ways of preserving your project for future burning to DVD.
Just hanging on to your iMovie Project file provides maximum flexibility if you decide you wish to go back in and do more editing. The downside is that it will take up the most disk space.
Exporting (sharing) to QuickTime>Full Quality DV will preserve the quality and save disk space. The downside is that you can't go back and change things like titles or transitions.
Exporting back to the camera is more or less the equivalent of saving to Full Quality DV. However, when you wish to burn your DVD it will require the intermediate step of reimporting back to iMovie.

FCP 7 not saving (or autosaving) correctly

When I open a project on FCP 7 - work on it for a few hours - saving regulary and autosaving is set to 3 minutes - close it after I'm done and open it again later - it hasn't saved anything I've changed or it only saved random changes. This is happening more and more to me in the last few days. What on earth can cause this? It is very frustrating working on a project for a day only to discover the next day that all your work has been lost. I'm working on Mac OS X version 10.6.7.
What can cause this kind of behaviour and how can I fix it?

I'd set Auto Save to save 12 copies max, every 5 minutes. 3 minutes is a bit excessive. And this is odd, I've never seen a save issue in FCP.
1st, get Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (dot com) for free, trash FCP preferences.
2nd, verify where the Auto Save files are going, verify they are all there, timed and dated properly.
3rd, verify ALL hard drives on your system have at least 15 per cent of their total capacity left as free space.

TS4036 hello there, my old phone was stolen and when trying to set up the new one using icloud it says: No backups available, even though i can see my last backup saved both on the new phone and my ipad, any bright ideas please?

My old phone was stolen and when trying to set up a new one and restoring my last backup from icloud it says: No backups available, even though i can see my last backup is saved/still there both on the new phone and my ipad, can one only restore from an earlier saved backup during the intitial set up of the phone, or are you also able to restore/pick up an older version later after is i set it up as a new phone? is any bright ideas please?

Premiere Crash on Export, HOURS of saved work vanished, need help finding

I have been working on a huge project for the past couple days. I've been saving on top of auto save on my own anally every five minutes.
Trial went up mid project and I had to upgrade to full creative CC package, in doing so Adobe gave me a new version of premiere not compatible of single App version I was working on with project before. So after the purchase when I went to open my project, it would prompt me and alert me of this difference, letting me know that my project is only compatible in a different version of premiere. I figured for this project, no big.
I FINALLY got the perfect cut, saved, went to export and my system locked up. I left it idle for a hour or so, came back and still frozen. I decided to reboot because there was no coming out of it.
Really freaking out over here, I will owe anyone my life who can try and help me figure out how to recover that final saved project file. No versions near the latest can be found in the obvious places to look.
I'm no file-saving-backup-techno genius. Please. SOS.

I share your feeling. Ppro inspires itself to crash at random intervals for no apparent reason and has done so for me since day one. I've spent the better part of 8 embittered years with the Ppro system, not a single version ever yielded reasonable stability.
In fact I just lost about an hour's work a moment ago after a freeze while simply scrubbing through a timeline. Not a single autosave file created since this afternoon.
I hear responses that are equal parts "works fine for me" and "I too live a tortured existence" and while Adobe engineers have been nothing but enthusiastic, patient, and helpful, the software remains an incredibly fragile and fickle ordeal. I've been left with the frustrating impression that the program is a patchwork quilt of functionality constructed piecemeal to keep pace with our ever-evolving needs, and bugs specific to certain hardware and software configurations inevitably multiply with them. Regardless of others' success, I believe that if a stool has two legs, it doesn't have to fall over to be considered unstable.
So as not to be a totally useless grumpy lubber, I would suggest doing what the Adobe engineers would tell you first, which would be to trash your preferences and clear your Cache folder. It won't bring back your work, but sometimes those files get corrupted and can choke your system again in the future.
