Saving Battery Power on Zen Micro(Origina

Well my original battery on my zen micro is giving my zen micro issues. Usually after about 5 minutes the battery begins to die and everything just freezes. So I've gotten a new battery everything is fine now. HOWEVER! My sister bought her Zen Micro the same time I bought mine but her battery is working fine as ever. Why is that? Isn't there a way to conserve my battery power? Aside from upgrading to the latest firmware? (NOTE: The last time I was on the Creative Boards, the firmware that gave the Zen Micro a 4 hr [around that] sleep mode). Usually, once my zen micro is done charging, it turns off by itself and I just leave it plugged it until the next time I use it. Does this affect the battery in any way? If so, would it be recommended that everytime I finish charging and using the zen micro that I take off the battery? I rarely use it, just when I go out so....yeah...respond back when you can, thanks.

Creative, it's been a few days now... I really would like to get this question answered please...
As the (red) announcement at the top of each board says, this forum is not for support, it is for user interaction. We reply to threads when we can, but it should not be expected, the forum is here so people can interact with eachother (share tips, help eachother, talk about products, and so on).
Could be your battery was failing, or if you left it without charging for long periods (stored). If you leave it charging but don't unplug it right away when it's charged it should be fine, but do you mean you're leaving it for days/weeks (plugged in) before you use it again?

  • Who does not loose battery power when zen micro is o

I bought my zen micro only 2 days ago and it looses battery power when I turned it off. I just want to know if there are people that are not experiencing this problem. The reason I want to know this is becuase if a lot of people are not experiencing this problem then I could return it and get a new one.

You can search the forum instead of posting.
Just dl the new firmware, that should fix it, also Catherina-CL posted this , which could be helpful,

    Hi Everyone,
It has been reported by some of our customers that they have experienced reduced battery life after charging their Zen Micro. Our product development team has researched these reports and determined that the users may have experienced this after they plugged their Zen Micro into the AC adaptor that was already inserted into a wall socket with the AC power on. While this is not the conventional way to plug in a player for charging, we wanted to ensure our customers did not experience this problem, so we have developed a solution to address this which simply involves upgrading the Zen Micro's firmware. To update your Zen Micro just download the firmware update ( ZenMicro_PCFW_US__0_03_PDE.exe) to your computer and run it with your Zen Micro attached to your computer.....if you need assistance in doing this please contact our product support team and they will be happy to assist you. This new firmware also includes an enhancement to improve touch sensitivity, we recommend that all of our customers download this firmware update to enhance their Zen Micro experience.
You can download the file under Support > Download Drivers, then enter that filename under the Search By Filename option.

  • Battery Problem with Zen Micro

    Hi
I decided to buy my girlfriend a Zen Micro for Christmas based on me owning a Zen Xtra 30GB and having only good things to say about it. Unfortunately from the off my girlfriend complained that the battery was only lasting a few days with about an hours use a day. At first I thought she was leaving it on and wearing down the battery. After a while I decided to do a few tests:
. I left it on continually to see how long the battery lasted. It lasted around 2 hours, which is about right.
    2. I fully charged it and left it a for a few days without using it. I then tried to switch it back on and to my surprise it wouldn't, it had been draining battery power despite the fact it wasn't in use!
I have also noticed that the action of turning the player on and off seems to drain alot of power from it.
I've calculated the battery lasts for around 4 hours but recently my girlfriend fully charged it listened to it for an hour then switched it off. When she switched it back on the battery indicator was on one bar!
I don't buy the fact that this is normal and I consider the product to be defecti've.
It is worth noting that I do have a separate mains adapter which plugs into the USB port of the player. Something that I think after reading through many posts on here could be the problem, why does in not have a separate mains port like the Zen Xtra? I have stock firmware.
Lastly I wanted to add that the reasons I am able to see this product is flawed is because I am able to compare it to my Zen Xtra which I can leave off for about a month (not tried longer) and it still retains its original battery power. And I can use it for about 2 hours a day for a week until I need to recharge it. I understand that there is a difference in battery power max duration but this is only by 2 hours so does not explain why the Zen Micro is only lasting for 4 hours or less.
I have since submited an email to Creative, so hopefully they will replace the item.

4 hours in definately not fine and your kidding yourself if you think it is. This MP3 player has been sold with a specification that the battery will play continously for 2 hours. Allowing for the power drain that may occur switching it on and off a few times this should mean it should atl east last 8 hours.
My Zen Xtra has a 4 hour battery life and it lasts probably very close to that mark, even with turning it on and off multiple times and also moving playlists around and with EQ enabled.
To me the most logical eplanation is that the Micro is severely draining power even when switched off.
With regards the USB I picked up on a point someone else raised but looking back maybe it is all down to the battery drain problem.Message Edited by ChrisTsamados on 05-8-2005 2:29 PM

  • Battery Drains when Zen Micro is o

I've posted about my battery powers before.
I have a 6gb Zen Micro with the latest firmware, ..02 i think.
Ive noticed that the battery bar is decreased whenever I turn on the micro the next day. The battery never decreases while the micro is on. This may have to do with the stand by mode.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Please dont say get latest firmware or turn off Backlight etc.

I'm not so sure about this though, but does the clock have anything to do with the battery life? Because I once tried to take out the battery before sleeping, it's still three bars, but the clock has been reverted back to it's original setting.
By the way, on my micro, the third bar tends to drain fast.

I haven't been to these forums in a very, very long time. The last time I was here was when Creative barely released the Zen Micro Photo onto the market. • Creative Zen Micro(Original) Firmwar

Alright, well I've had this product for about 2-3 years now. It's worked until this point, I wanted to erase everything off of it. So I went into recovery mode. I accidently select reload firmware and now it's messed up. I've been looking around trying to download the firmware and putting it on there again. But, I open up the firmware upgrade. All it gives me "Your player is not connected, please connect your player". It is connected, just charging. I lost my cd. Don't know how to connect the player to my computer. Help?

The same thing happened to me, except my songs were starting to mess up and so went to the Creative thing for the Zen and reformatted my Zen micro photo 8 g. Well after that the zen froze up at the Creative logo, so i tried formatting again from the recovery menu, and it didnt do anything, after that I realized i hadnt updated my firmware since i got in in like 2006, and that may be the problem. If you know of anything to help, your kindness would be gratefully appreciated.
Does your computer recognize the player? Have you got it to go beyond the Creative screen. Did you do cleanup >reboot after formatting player. If not then do that. Don't even think about firmware update until the computer will recognize it. Firmware update for the player can ONLY be done a computer running Xp with WMP0. Your hardri've may be failing so firmware update won't help that. If the player won't finish the scan disk & rebuilding library after the cleanup >reboot then it's a clear sign of failing or failed hardri've.

Yes. You obviously haven't read the User Guide (link in iPhone Safari) and I suggest you look up how to enable/disable settings in the iPhone. This support article will give much info on optimizing battery life:

I have an RMA for what appears to be a hard dri've failure on my daughters 4 month old Zen. In the email I received it said not to send the assessories with the return. Should I keep the battery or send it in with the Z-M? I was hoping I could get a quick answer here insead of waitnig -5 days for a reply from CS. Thanks,

    Hi,
Correct. The only time you should send the battery back with the player is when you are explicitly asked to do so.

  • Can I use the battery from 4gb Zen Micro Photo in the 8gb Zen Micro Pho

Can I use the 3.7V Li-ion Polymer Battery 680mAh in my 8gb Zen Microphoto? The 8gb came with a 3.7V Lithium Ion Battery 830mAh.

    rrochlis,
The mAh is a measure of a battery's total capacity. The higher the number (ex. 600 mAh, ,500 mAh) the more charge the battery can hold and usually, the longer a battery will last under a certain load. If you're going to use a lower mAh battery, you will get shorter playback time.

  • Question about the new battery for zen micro/ zen microph

i just reacently noticed that creative has a new bettery the?Li-Ion Battery (830mAh) for ZEN MICROPHOTO/ ZEN MICR0 on there website they say it gives longer battery lifeand i was wondering how true this could be because i would like to get more than 6 to 8 hours out of my zen micro

The Zen MicroPhoto uses more power than the Zen Micro would, so it has a better battery. But you can use this battery with the Zen Micro and it should last longer than your original battery.

  • What is going on with my Zen Micro battery?

Ok, so far I have been fairly happy with my Zen Micro (only one freeze/reboot) but something is serioursly up with my battery. Yesterday, I used my Zen Micro for no more than 2 hours after a touch up charge and I had two bars left on the battery display. Then when I tried to turn it on this morning it wouldnt turn on, so I plug it into my power adaptar and it shows that my battery is completely drained! How can this be? Does the player use up battery power while the Micro is off?
The has already happened to me once. I charged my battery the first day I got it and used it for a while. Then the next morning the Micro wouldnt turn on so I plug it into the adaptar and it keeps flashing the Creative logo so I had to clean the disk.
Two different battery problems not even within the first 5 days of purchase
(I can still return it to Frys thankfully). Please tell me what is going on or I might have to just swap it for an Ipod......

Well my player has been fine after I ran the disk clean for the first time, but it is my **bleep** battery and its battery life.
Maybe I should swap in the extra battery I got. Any suggestions on how I should handle it's Like what should be my charging routine? Because when I popped in my first battery it had one bar on it and I was using it for a while, then I did a full charge and used it for a while and the next day is when I had the freeze. so for the new battery, should I pop it in and just fully charge it before using it's
::I have visited the ipodlounge and have seen alot of problems with ipod, but since there are so many Ipods out there I am not surprised. I am surprised at how many problems the Zen Micro is having without having sold as many units::

  • ZEN Micro hang on battery cha

My just-out-of-the-box ZEN Micron player worked OK when I inserted the minimally charged new battery from the box, but after I connected it to the charger, and the battery charged up, the player froze, i.e. no touchpad or other inputs would work, it wouldn't even shut down with the power switch, and stayed that way until the idle-OFF kicked in, then it re-started and was still be frozen. Only after I removed the back, took out the battery and replaced it, did the player respond to controls again. Creative, please help on this. Thank You!

  • Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............
Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support.
In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
    MEdiaSource with these procedures.
. Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
    2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
    3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
    4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
    C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
    6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
    7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
    8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
    Manager
(they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
    Controllers category).
    9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
    there
called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
    0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
    mode.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
    Reboot: Reboots the device
Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
    not
help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
these steps, as soon as possible.
For faster service please reply with previous correspondence when
    replying to this email.

    "Get Creative"
I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

    LakeTahoeGuy,
Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.
