Saving cards as pdf

I'm trying to use a trick mentioned on the following web page to create a title graphic for an iMovie or iPhoto slideshow. But if I try creating a card and saving it as a PDF file, it always seems to be 72 dpi and I can't specify a specific number of pixels.
Here is the web page:
http://www.thedigitalstory.com/blog/2006/08/amazingtitlegraphi.html
Is there a way to increase the resolution of the file that gets created?
I've tried just the basic "print as PDF" dialog box and get the 72 dpi file. I've also tried "save PDF to iPhoto", but the process stalls and I never can follow through with this part of the instructions:
"Your Mac will run a little workflow that soon asks you which iPhoto Library to save the image in. Select your slideshow album from the "Choose Album" popup menu and hit "Continue." iPhoto will place a 1200 x 800 Jpeg of your postcard in your album. Rename the image "Opening Title" and drag it to the first position in the album. You can create as many of these graphics as you need throughout the show. You now have a stupendous opening graphic for your slideshow."

You don't need more that 72 dpi as that's the screen resolution for monitors. It's the pixel dimensions that are of important in a file. But for iMovie you only need 640 x 480 pixels for the movie. For an iPhoto slideshow the larger the better if it's going to be played thru iPhoto on the monitor. When you export to Quicktime the images get resized to 640 x 480.
As for the Save PDF to iPhoto process, there's a window that comes up after the PDF is assembled but the window stays behind all other open window. You must minimize all the windows go get to it. Then you name or pick an album to save the image files to and go from there. Those files will be in 200 dpi as imported. I got caught with that window thing about 5 times before figuring it out.
However, if you don't get that window at all then you've got a version of the Automator workflow that didn't work. It was fixed with the 10.4.8 COMBO updater.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Card/postcard, PDF doesn't have text.

    Hey all,
I am having some problems saving my postcard and Card in PDF. When I send to print, I select the option to save my postcard as PDF file... After saving the file, I open it and I saw that all the text disappear from the PDF file... what I noticed is that if I change the style of each text to non-italic the process is able to save the PDF with all the bells (meaning picture + text)..
    Can somebody help me?

Hi - I'm have the same problem. I don't have text when I try to print, preview or make a .pdf file of a greeting card. I made one a couple weeks ago and it printed beautifully - I went back to reprint the same cart today and this time there was no text!! I also tried making a new card.
I also tried to use the default fonts iPhoto suggests and still no luck. I then tried selecting "All" under the Advanced button in the print menu like alejmrm suggested.
    Any solutions??

  • Hyperlinks not saved correctly in PDF and Excel

    Hi,
I have a few reports with hyperlinks to other reports that contain multiple input parameters, which makes the links very long. ( greater than 400 characters )
When the reports are saved as excel, I am unable to invoke the child report on clicking the link as the link is not saved entirely ( can see that when i try to edit the hyperlink in excel ).  Therefore the child report opens but prompts for inputs as not all the inputs are passed
When saved as pdf, the link is not saved correctly and i cannot invoke the child report at all
Please can you suggest a solution/workaround? Alternately is it possible to disable the hyperlinks when saved as excel/pdf?
    Regards
    Sameer

    Hello,
I think this is a limitation in Excel where URL syntax has to be 255 characters or less
In order to prove that it's coming from excel and not BO, try in excel to create a false hyperlink which contains more than 255 characters.
A workaround might be to modify the cell as text and will not be recognized as a URL. So you should get it entirely.
Please let me know if it helps you

    Philippe

  • Can a JPEG be 'saved as' a PDF (or other file type)?

Can a JPEG file be saved as a PDF file?
Also, can it be saved in a file format that will allow the image to be inserted into, e.g., a WORD document? (Or can a JPEG itself simply be inserted into a WORD doc 'as is'?)
    Thanks.

You can reformat a .jpg to PDF.
No, it doesn't reformat it. The .jpg is simply embedded into the PDF file. As BDAqua noted, if it's a high resolution image, OS X's built in PDF creation module will knock it down to screen resolution.
For some reason, I was sent a chart (with numbers) as a jpeg file. Converting it to, and then printing it as, a PDF leaves the data in too small a font size.
What size is the .jpg before you place it into a PDF? Open it in Preview and press Command+I. What is the image size in pixels and image DPI (resolution)?
Is there any way to enlarge the text (via iPhoto, Preview, or some other Mac utility)?
72 dpi is low, screen resolution. 300 dpi is standard high, print resolution. So if the original is already a low res file, then there's little to nothing you can do to improve the text on a printed piece.

  • How do i stop photoshop cs4 from quitting unexpectedly when saving a photoshop pdf? i attempted to download the adobe drive 5 but the installation keeps failing.

How do i stop photoshop cs4 from quitting unexpectedly when saving a photoshop pdf? i attempted to download the adobe drive 5 but the installation keeps failing. I went through the process of clicking through the how to's and the troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that I need to install the adobe drive 5 but I can not complete the installation. I may be incorrect on this so I need immediate assistance as I have poster and ad deadlines. I also tried disabling the gatekeeper and solution 3 on the troubleshooting of slow saving on photoshop.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thank you!

Are you attempting to save the file to a network location instead of your local hard drive? If so, this is probably why you are encountering an issue and why Adobe Drive would be the solution. As we've documented, it is a bad idea to open from or save directly to a network source: Networks, removable media | Photoshop | CS4 and later. Drive can help you get around this by setting up an Adobe supported virtual connection to the network. Thus, if installing Adobe Drive is the solution you need and your need help with installing Drive, please post to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.
If you are not saving to a network location, then Adobe Drive is not going to be the answer. Then we'll need to know more about the file you are saving.

  • Bug Report:  "View PDF After Saving" Does Not Work When Saving as Photoshop PDF

The saved PDF file is not opening in Acrobat after saving a file as a Photoshop PDF. I noticed it happening a few times in earlier beta testing, but today it happened again.
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.2 installed on MacPro with Lion OS 10.7.3. Photoshop public beta m415.  System info can be provided if needed.
The file I was trying to save was about 8 MB. Once it failed to open after save, I tried varied PDF settings and save locations. Also tried several different files. All were saved properly as PDF files, but would not continue to open in Acrobat as previous versions have done. The files open properly when you click on the file names in saved location.

I'm happy I could help and feel a bit proud to have found a real bug. The simplest work around is just clicking on the file list once it's done...that's certainly not a problem.

  • User can't open presentation saved as a PDF file

I sent a presentation saved as a PDF file and the user could not open it.  The error message received was that his computer needed Adobe Flash Player 16.0.  Despite installing it, he still gets the same error message.

Problem was solved by doing another installation of flash and rebooting.

  • Media file (quicktime) not playing when Pages document is saved as a pdf

I added a quicktime file (a movie trailer) to my presentation and it plays when in Pages - but when I export it to a pdf it is just a black space. 1. are these links/media files are supposed to be active when in a pdf format 2. how can I get the media file to play when it is saved as a pdf? 3. Will those who I email it to be able to play the media file when they open it up on their computer?
thanks so much in advance - I am under a tight deadline so any help would be appreciated!

Multimedia is not embedded in exported .pdf files.
You will need to relink them again in the .pdf using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

  • Saving Remittances to PDF

    Hello,
I have a machine that has recently had windows 7 installed and has SAP B1 running on it. It originally had cutepdf installed and an issue arose when going into Banking - Document Printing. When we select more than one AP Invoice to print then send it to cutepdf, it doesn't create all the files. i.e. if three AP INvoices were selected then it should save 3 files. It doesn't, it only saves the first. We had tried to download and install primopdf however the same issue occurs.
Would anyone have any suggestions or know of any compatibility issues with saving reports to PDF from SAP on a windows 7 operating system?
    Regards,
    Juan

    Hi,
Please check the settings of your  PDF converter, search for an option that states Append Document in Printing,
try to use other converter like Broadgun pdf.

  • How do I change a document that I have saved as a PDF file in Documents? I can get it to OPEN but can't do anything to it.

How do I change a document that I have saved as a PDF file in Documents........I can open it but can't do anything with it.

A PDF is really an electronic print of your document & is not intended for future editing. You should always save a copy of the original document in the program that created it & use that for edits. You can then export or print the revised document to PDF, again saving the original.

  • How to detect alterations to a JPG image that has been saved as a PDF

I have received a file containing a cancelled bank check that was downloaded from a bank website and saved as a PDF of the screenshot. Upon opening the PDF, it appears that some of the original hand-written text in the image has been altered. I believe this PDfFwas originally saved as a JPG, then altered, then saved as a PDF. Is there any way to determine if indeed the text has been altered in the file? Thanks!

Not easily.  The bank's original version may have been a JPEG, then a screenshot was taken of that and saved as a PDF with unknown compression.  (really, who saves a screenshot as a PDF?)
You can examine the PDF in a text editor to see what created it.  You can open it in Illustrator to see the layer data (which might show tampering).
Beyond that you'd need an imaging forensics expert to look for tampering with the JPEG compressed image data (was it compressed more than once, was something significantly altered)?

  • Problem saving files to PDF in Illustrator CS4 [Mac]

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with saving files as PDF's in illustrator CS4 - something I've happily done for years until about a week ago.
It seems to be something to do with the "Save As" command. When I select Save As and then select PDF, the PDF saves as a copy of the current file rather than it saving as a file itself. It also doesn't rename itself properly. Saving a file in the .ai format seems unaffected.
The multiple page function also seems to be affected - I can create multiple pages no problem, but upon saving the PDF reads as a single page PDF in both Acrobat and Preview. Reopening the same file in Illustrator reveals that the extra pages are there, but not showing in the PDF.
Any thoughts? I've trashed preferences and repaired permissions, but no joy....
    Any help greatly appreciated

Have you entered specific artboards in "use artboards"?

  • CS5 Illustrator images can no longer saved as a PDF

My CS5 Illustrator images can no longer be saved as a PDF.
Possible cause is because my .ai work got saved as CS6 version at school. Do I need to upgrade to CS6 in order to have my images saved as PDF?
Thanks -- 3x expensive class, given probable need to upgrade.

    DC,
Possible cause is because my .ai work got saved as CS6 version at school.
On the same computer? If you still have the original CS5 document(s) on your computer, whatever happened at school should have no consequence in this connexion.
If you saved the actual document(s) as CS6, you may have some issues, but that would include difficulty in opening with CS5; maybe you are only able to open as PDF.
So its sounds as if the expected issue would be the opposite of what (I believe) you describe.
    Is it posible to clarify?
