Saving changes in Word document

Hi all,
I am using the 30-day trial version of Iwork '09 and have been running into the following problem: Whenever I save a Pages document as a Word document, as soon as I make changes to the document and click Save just to save these changes, the computer asks me where I want to save the document, which is really annoying because it just takes so much time. I don't know if this is a common problem? When I work on the same document in Pages, this never happens, I can just make changes and click Save and the changes will automatically be incorporated into the document. I would really appreciate your advice on the matter!!!

Welcome to the forum.
The .pages version is the only real Pages document.
The Word .doc is a copy/exported file.
Don't work with a Word document in Pages, that is what Word is for. Wait till you have finished, then export the Word version for sharing with other workers.
There are other programs that let you work in native .doc files, such as OpenOffice, Bean and TextEdit (all free), but Pages is not one of those.

Not sure if any of the alternatives to Office (word) for Mac are near the feature set you require.
There are a few listed here at this page, in some ways aren't exactly like Office or Word; the feature you seek may (or may not) exist. I'd try & see about neooffice compatibility...

Saving a modified word document without user intervention

Dear Reader,
I have successfully opened a template (MS Word document), and
modified the bookmarks using DDE; however, now in attempting to
save the document without the user having to respond I am having
problems. I have attempted to use DDE.EXECUTE(ConvId,'[Save
()]',1000); but this drops into the VB debugger and nothing is
saved. If I remove the "[]" then an error occurs. If I attempt
to place something with the brackets () an error occurs within
the VB Debugger.
Looking for a simple coding example using DDE.

Hi Tina,
I would first suggest installing all available updates to his/her system and Office installation, including updating the video card driver to the latest version. Then try again.
Also try to do a Windows clean boot to determine if the issue was caused by any applications/services conflicts:

How to make a movie in, Pages, that works when it is saved as a Word document?

I made a pages document, then saved it as a Word document, but the 10 second movie I saved in it doesn't play when you start it in Office and use it. I used an MP4, should I try to get something that creates a .WMV since PC doesn't play well with others?

I use Libre Office all the time. It can only "recognize" file formats that you have installed players for.
Install VLC media player (open source, cross platform) and it should be OK.
I have to wonder if your using the best medium for what you want to accomplish. What do you need besides the movie? Maybe you should be creating a web page? Certainly, HTML has far better support for embedding media in a document than anything else. Better as in will work on Windows, Linux, OS X, etc.

Different output when saving and converting Word documents

Hi,
I have some issues with images when converting some Word documents to PDF and I hope someone can enlighten me :-). If I convert the Word document by simply right clicking on it and selecting the option to Convert To Adobe PDF, it will create a file that is mostly fine, with the exception of some of the images which are being split into segments, making the image text unreadable.
However, if I save the file as PDF in Microsoft Word (both 2010 or 2013), then I have no such an issue, since the image is not being split into segments and the text is perfectly readable. I have also attached some examples, see below. Ideally I would like to be able to convert several Word documents at once, and saving each documents in Microsoft Word would be too time consuming. Any help on this, will be really appreciated.
1) Converting to PDF, the image is split into segments and the text is unreadable
2) Saving as PDF in Word, does not split the image and it retains the original quality and readable text

My wife is a writer of both published books and ebooks. When I convert her PDF version back to a Word format, how do I save
the downloaded Word document to a Memory Stick so she can edits/updates on her own laptop?

Do it in two stages
1. Download the coverted file in the usual way.
2. Drag it to the memory stick in the usual way (Windows Explorer or Finder).

Saving 2-page word document results in 2 PDFs

I tried to save a 2 page word document as a PDF (print -> pdf -> save as pdf) but what I get are 2 separate PDFs instead.
So, a CV.doc file becomes CV.pdf & CV.2.pdf
Any ideas on what's going on? This seemed to be working all right till quite recently.

Are there mixed orientations in the original pdf? If so, these threads offer information on Apple's inability to handle mixed orientations.

Saving changes in KM Document IView

Howdy Folks!
I am displaying an Excel Document on my Portal Site using an KM Document IView.
This Excel Document is editabel for users of the Portal Site that they can leave information there.
For example, it could be a public document and everybody can leave his/her adress, phone number, birthday, etc.
So how can the changes (entries) of users be saved in the Excel List? Is it possible to display the menu bar (save button) of Excel files in the KM Document IView?

Not possible in KM Document iView.
Suggest using WebDAV or Web Folders. KM Document iView is display/download only.

Inability to view track changes on word documents sent to me

In Pages, I have tracking changes ON and view Comments but I am unable to view track changes in documents sent to me via Word. HELP please

A picture that was saved in a word document is not showing when I open the document in Pages. Is there a way to recover the image, or a specific type of file that Pages only recognizes?

My professor posted the course syllabus online and at the time, I was using OpenOffice. Whenever I opened the document the image would show perfectly fine, but I switched over to Pages because it had a template I know one of my professors wants a project to be done in. When I opened the same document in Pages to see if it would look the same, the error box popped up and said the image could not be imported and there was a blank box where the picture should have been. My question is, is there any way that I could somehow get the image to show or was it saved in a format that Pages doesn't recognize?

Open the document with Open Office. Select and Copy the image. Paste it into Pages.
If that doesn't work,
Open the document with Open Office. Select and Copy the image. Launch Preview. Press command-N (New document from Clipboard). Save the Preview file as a PDF or JPEG, as appropriate. Insert that in Pages.

Saving MS Word Document to Database

My question is how would I go about saving a MS Word document to a 9i Database. I am using webforms, so using an OLE object wont work. I am using a JavaBean to get the file name, but that is all i can come up with so far. I have a column in my database of type Long Raw which I intend to store the binary Word file in. If you know how I can save this MS Word file, please let me know, your help is much appreciated.

Hi guys,
i just got my ipad. Is there any way to see tracked changes in word documents?
Its seems like documents to go can do this? Just wondering if any one is able to validate this.

Update. From the MacWorld Pages review:
"One extremely important note here: if you receive Word or Pages documents that contain tracked changes or comments, you’ll need to avoid Pages for iPad. Imported documents lose all comments and Pages for iPad automatically accepts any tracked changes. For me, this is a problem I can’t work around."
So as of this date, no. Maybe in a future release.

Linking word document to report and refreshing

I'm looking to link word documents to a report. After changing the word documents I'm looking for a way to automatically refresh WITHOUT opening the report again.
I know this can be done if the report is opened after changing the word documents but I'm trying to find a way to do it without re-opening.
Is there a way?

Hi Slim,
If you are not refreshing your report, it will show only static information which is saved in your previous refresh. It is not possible to view changes without refreshing the report.
