Saving contacts to address book - Multiple Users

My wife and I both have iPhones and want to back up our contacts. I backed mine up but noticed in Windows Address Book it just put all of my contacts in the Main Identity's Contacts. I'm afraid of backing up my wife's because I'm afraid it will mix up all of our contacts. I've tried creating groups for each of us but it just puts everyone's contacts in the main identity's contacts. Is there a way to back them up with Windows Address Book without mixing them up?

I will have the same issue shortly. One thing that you can try to do (which I have yet to try...so unsure how it will work) is have your contacts sync to outlook while have hers sync to windows address book. This way they won't get mixed up
Also, I have a related question whose answer may help: does itunes back up contacts automatically (i.e. in the background), without the help of an external application like outlook or windows address book? if so, then backing up to a program may be unnecessary.

  • Jabber for Windows 10.5 shows contacts from Address Book multiple times?

What would cause Jabber for Windows 10.5.1 to show a contact multiple times from the address book when searching?  See attached screenshot.

I tried removing firefox and rebooting/reinstalling Jabber with no luck.  I reimaged my machine and loaded 10.5.2 fresh install with no previous versions and still getting the random crash.  Also, I have users who say it has crashed on them during a WebEx and have had installation problems when upgrading from 9.x to 10.5.x.  Version 9 is very solid, sticking with 9.7.5.  I have about 10% of my test users having varying problems with version 10.5.x, waiting till the next release.  Hopefully Cisco will spend a few more weeks testing the next one before publishing it on their site.
    --edit--
Also, when you finally get frustrated and want to downgrade, Jabber 10.5.x doesn't uninstall completely and you end up with an error like the image attached when you try to install v9.7.5 for example and can't install Jabber even after rebooting.  I had to run Microsoft Fix It install/Uninstall option and tell it to uninstall Jabber before Windows allowed me to install an older version of Jabber.  Not too happy with this release.  Strange enough though, some of my users have the exact same laptop I do, same windows build, same patches, etc, and it works fine for them.  Anyway, not deploying this one.  Good luck.

  • Using O2M I imported my contacts into Address Book. However upon exiting the contacts are not saved. This is on a new Macbook Pro Lion OS. How does one save the newly imported contacts?

Using the program O2M I successfully imported emails from Outlook 2003 to Mail, and calendar events to iCal. However, repeated attempts to import contacts to Address Book have failed. The contacts appear to import, but when I close Address Book and reopen it, the contacts are gone. I tried File-Save, but Save is greyed out. This is a new Macbook Pro with the latest Lion OS. I wonder if O2M has not been updated to work with Lion. Or is there something I am overlooking in the import process?

Hi Denisej and others who have encountered the same problem,
I tried your work around. Unfortunately it did not work out for me because in my contacts there are an unknown number that still "refused" to be imported like that. When such a contact was in the group I selected for import the whole lot would be lost again after re-opening Address Book. Finally that meant that I had to import each contact one-by-one, each time with the need to close down Address Book. A job to go nuts and end up with a mouse injury. So I decided to use the Migration Assistant that Lion now offers
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3284404
together with Windows Migration Assitant on my old PC. Obviously both Mac and PC have to be on the same network. For this I did not need to do anything special. Both make use of the same router and that is apparently sufficient. When migrating the contacts Lion creates a new account, so you need to log in to that new account to see your migrated contacts. I used the Export Address Book Archive function in the Address Book menu to copy the lot to my own Apple account. I got rid of the new account and I was finally where I wanted to be in the first place.

  • Unable to send mail to importet contacts via address book

    Hi all,
I've searched the web without finding a solution to my issue with one of my users, so I had to create my own thread.
My issue is that one of my newly employed users importet a large amount of contacts (over 3000) from his previous workplace (which worked after a little trouble via manually importing a .pst file), but when he tries to add contacts to a mail via address
book and send the mail, he receives a mail back with "the following recipient(s) cannot be reached"
I can resolve the issue by copying the mail address, under the contacts profile, and pasting it in the "Email" field, basically retyping the same mail. The mail will then go through without any return mail stating the above error. I could do the
same for all 3000 contacts, BUT that is a lot of time needed, which I would really like to avoid.
We are running Exchange 2010 and Office 2013.
I'm hoping for a fix from one of the clever minds in here!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Does the issue happen when sending mails to all these 3000 contacts? Please send test message by adding other contacts to a mail via Contacts in Address Book to check whether the issue can be reproduced.
Please make sure the latest patches and service packs are installed for your Outlook 2013. Additionally, please try the following test to narrow down the issue:
    1. Please switch to People panel in Outlook, click a imported contact, click Email in HOME tab. Then send a message to check whether this message can be sent successfully.
    2. Please open the Contact PST file in Outlook instead of import PST file. Then do step 1 to send test message and check whether the issue persists.
If the issue doesn’t happen when sending message to contacts in opened PST file, it indicates the Contacts which is saved in the PST file should be correct. The issue may be related to Contact resolved in Outlook client. Please create a new Outlook contact
or create a new Outlook profile to have a try.

  • Unable to create or edit AD (mail) contacts in address book

    Hi!
I recently imported quite a list of contacts from an old CRM application into Exchange. All entries are nicely created in domain.local\company\location\Contacts. All fields are visible in Outlook under All Address Lists\All Contacts.
As we have a small company, just a few users, I want to give most of them the rights to create and update entries in the All Contacts folder, just as they were used to in the old app.
I started by creating role groups following this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2013/08/07/creating-rbac-role-to-delegate-contact-management.aspx
I created an Admin Role group named Contact Administration, which contains the required Members, and I assigned two role groups to this group: Contact_Management, which is based on the Mail Recipient Creation parent group, and Contact_Management_2,
which is based on the Mail Recipient parent group. The Write Scope is: domain.local\company\location\Contacts.
Because this didn't result in anyone being able to update the contacts, I also created a group in Active Directory and delegated control on the contacts OU to this group, even though I think this doesn't add to the desired result (as it indeed didn't).
What am I missing here? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to create or edit a mail contact in address book, please follow these steps: -
Use the Shell to create a contact
This example creates mail contact for Debra Garcia in Exchange Server 2013
New-MailContact -Name "Debra Garcia" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected] -OrganizationalUnit Users
This example creates a mail contact for Alan Shen in Exchange online.
New-MailContact -Name "Alan Shen" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected]
    3.     This example mail-enables an existing contact named Karen Toh in Exchange Server 2013.
Enable-MailContact -Identity "Karen Toh" -ExternalEmailAddress [email protected]
    To add a contact: -
You can use the EAC to change selected properties for multiple mail contacts. When you select two or more mail contacts from the contacts lit in the EAC, the properties that can be bulk edited are displayed in the Details pane. When you change one of these properties, the change applies to all selected recipients.
When you bulk edit mail contacts, you can change the following properties areas: -
    ·        Contact Information: - Change shared properties such as street, postal code, and city name.
    ·        Organization: - Change shared properties such as department name, company name, and the manager that the selected mail contact or mail users report to.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.

IF YOU CAN BACK UP YOUR ADDRESS BOOK FIRST
IF YOU CAN BACK UP YOUR ADDRESS BOOK FIRST
I have figured out the answer to nos 1
You need to delete Address Book from user/library/applicationsupport.
    (All Contacts will go)
(In Lion to access this as is maybe hidden
hold the option key down on the Go menu (you will see Library)
Drag it to the slide bar then you know where it is)
Delete the file in Address Book/Application Support
restart Address Book and it works better
Still need help with Question 2

  • How to hide a contact in Address Book?

May I hide certain contacts in Address Book?

I'm assuming you don't want to hide a contact from yourself ... it sounds like you just need to start using the multiple-user nature of OS X (System Preferences - Accounts). Use one login for yourself, and set up others for anyone else who uses your computer (or one "general" account for everyone else - make sure you set it as Standard and not Admin). They will have their own address book, and yours will remain private.

  • Problems syncing from contacts to address book

I have an iMac which now runs OSX 10.6.8 and an iPhone 3GS that runs the latest iOS 5.
Long story short, I downgraded from OSX Lion back to OSX 10.6.8 a few months ago.  Got quite a few problems doing so...  ended up creating a brand new user and transferring music, videos and photos manually.  Then, the iOS 5 got out and I upgraded my phone right away.  I couldn't figure out icloud at first but understood yesterday that it works only with Lion.  I thought I'd keep it on my phone if I ever want to install Lion again.
I also realised that I never transfered back in my iMac all my iCal events and Contacts.
So yesterday, I tryied to sync my Contacts, iCal and Notes from my iPhone to my iMac.  In the iTune info tab, under each section, there was a message mentioning that since I use iCloud, I don't need to sync my info through iTune and doing so would possibly create duplicates.  I try to sync them anyway since I only had to in Address Book.  I got the message to merge or replace.  I selected merge (yes I had at least one contact in Address Book).  Nothing happened...  iCal didn't merge anything and neither Address Book.  I tried to create new events in my phone and iMac and these were syncing but not the original ones.  Also added a contact in Address Book and it got sync with my phone.  I didn't try creating one on the phone to sync it through but assumed that it was working.
After going through a few discussion threads, I decided to delete the iCloud account on my phone since I didn't need it and try re-syncing.  The iCloud message in the iTune's info tab was gone so I thought everything would be good and I could select merge my contact again without any problem.  I was wrong...  I lost all my contacts...  I freeeeeeeeaked out !!  Thank God I didn't unplug the phone and restored it right away to get everything back.
I tried it again this afternoon but only tried to sync iCal.  I didn't get to choose between merge and replace and the same thing happened again...  lost everything...  iCal but also Contacts which I find strange because I didn't check the Contact option in iTune....   I got everything restored back even thought it's always scary to try things like this....  So for now on, I don't delete my iCloud info on my Phone and do not sync any other info.  I'm actually scared to plug it in and always double check that my contacts are all there before unplugging.
So here I am...  don't really know what to do...  I read stuff about removing apple.isync files or something...  or other options but they never quite answer my problem...
There is still the option to type all my contacts back in Address Book..  I don't have that many... but it's a pain...
Sorry about the long message here
Thanks for your help and for your time.
    Ben

Clearly iSync has got confused about what new data it needs to pull from the phone. Usually resetting the sync history solves this, but as it hasn't for you... try this:
I would suggest sending all the contacts from the phone to the Mac manually via Bluetooth: *Contacts > Options > More > Advanced > Send all Contacts > Via Bluetooth* (or similar, depending on the exact phone model)
This will send vCard(s) which can be imported into the Mac Address Book simply by double-clicking the file that arrives on your Mac.
Merge or remove any duplicates as they are imported. You can also use the *Card > Look for Duplicates* command in Address Book.
Once all your Contacts are exactly as you want them in Address Book do a full backup of them:
*File > Export > Address Book archive...*
Finally, load iSync, click your phones icon and choose *Reset Device...* from the Devices menu.
This will force iSync to remove all the existing contacts from the phone and completely replace them with all the new nicely sorted out ones from the Mac Address Book.
From this point on, iSync should keep track of what needs updating on each subsequent sync.

  • No Contacts or Address Book app

My new iPhone doesn't have an icon for Contacts (or Address Book).  Is that something I have to add myself?  That seems odd.  I can see contacts if I set out to create a message, but don't see any way to pull up a list of contacts right from the start.  User error, I'm sure.

Swipe down on the home screen and type Contacts in the search field. If it is on the device (and it should be) it will show up, and if it is in a folder, will tell which one. Assuming it does show up in the search, go back tot he home screen and swipe left-right to see your alternate screens and locate it.

  • IPhone not syncing Contacts to Address Book

I noticed that my iPhone (both original iPhone and iPhone 3G) was not syncing contacts with Address Book. I tried to Reset Sync History in iSync, and when I have tried to replace the contacts on iPhone under the Advanced options, I lose all my contacts on the iPhone!
The only way to get some contacts back is restoring from backup, but unfortunately as iTunes performs a backup of the iPhone on sync, these backups also have no contacts! I have an old backup that fortunately has not been overwritten but the contact list is a bit out of date.
Address Book on the Mac seems to be fine and this is backed up.
It would appear that iTunes has somehow lost its "connection" to Address Book, which is why when I chose to replace the Contacts on the iPhone with the information on the computer I lost them all!
iCal still seems to sync fine with Calendar.
Can I re-link Address Book with iTunes?

    Jason L wrote:
    Hey lim_my,
Are contacts syncing with MobileMe or any other applications?
    I don't have MobileMe.
Now you mention it, Address Book did not appear to even update if I updated a contact in Mail.
Can you sync contacts in another User account? to create another user account goto System Preferences> Accounts> click the lock to make changes> click the + button to add another user account.
Yes I can! I only tried to sync Contacts, leaving all other options i.e Calendars Bookmarks Ringtones Music Videos Applications untouched, and now I have some test Contacts on the iPhone.
You can try Resetting the SyncServices folder, Just follow the steps in this article to stop the service and then delete the SyncServices folder in your user library.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
I had tried this before, within iSync, which did not work. I then tried the command in Terminal as per the above link, then went and deleted the /user/Library/ Sync Services folder. Still no joy.
So it looks as though I have a broken Address Book rather than iTunes. Should I post this in the OS X Leopard section of Discussions?

When I launch address book, multiple windows open, and I can't find a way to close them unless I do it one at a time.  I must have chosen at some point "open all contacts" or something like that, but am at a loss as to how to prevent this in the future. I've tried command +option+w, to no avail.  Ideas?  thanks!

  • Public Folders with Contacts vs Address Book

Which is the better approach: public folders with contacts or setting up an address book?
I want to set up some sort of address book to hold details of some of our major clients. Rather than each person maintaining his/her own address list the plan is for everyone to maintain a single list. As soon as we deal with a "new" contact at
one of our clients that person's details go into the central list and we all benefit.
In the past we've used public folders. However, it seems to me that they are quite a hassle with OWA so i was wondering why we don't simply create a new address book with:
New-AddressList -Name "MyCo – Customers" -RecipientFilter "(CustomAttribute1 -eq 'MyCo') -and (ObjectClass -eq 'Group')" -RecipientContainer "ad.ilbs.co/Habitats/myco"
    or should I use New-OfflineAddressBook -Name ...
Our team run a variety of systems (Windows and Mac) and a variety of phones (mostly IOS and Android)
    Roger

    Hi Roger,
According to your description, you want to share the contact which is created by each client users in OWA and Outlook to all other domain users for contact sharing. Is it right?
If that is the case, the Public Folder is an option to achieve this as you mentioned. For address list in server side, only the administrators who have related permission to Exchange server can create an address list in Exchange server generally.
For client users, they can’t create the address list for all other users using, though the contact folder permission is set to reviewer for all other users.
If you are using Public Folder contact (default folder permission set to Author), each user can create contacts in this folder and the contact can be visible for all users. Then the client user can do the following settings in Outlook to
manually add the Public Contact to address book:
    1. In Outlook, open Public Folder.
    2. Right-click Public Contact folder, select Properties.
    3. In Outlook Address Book tab, check Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book.
    4. Click OK to save the setting.
Then the Public Contact folder should be added in the Address Book.

  • Adding notes to Mutliple Contacts in Address Book

Does anyone know how to add a note to multiple contacts in address book? For example I have a list of people I sent holiday cards to and would like to add a note "Holiday Card 2005" to each contact. I do not want to create a "Group".
    Thanks!
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

There's currently no way to do this within the application, but Address Book's applescript support should make this possible. You can select a number of records, and have a script operate on the people within the selection.

  • How to show ungrouped (unfiled) contacts in Address Book?

In my Treo, I am used to being able to show my contacts that do not have a group assigned to them yet. Is there a way to show ungrouped contacts in Address Book?
    Thank you!

You can try this AppleScript, which is known to work in 10.4.11 and earlier versions of OS X, so I haven't tested on 10.5.x:
    -- properties --
property alone : "No Group" -- you can change it to anything you like.
    -- script --
    tell application "Address Book"
    if group alone exists then
-- remove everyone from this group
repeat with p in every person of group alone
    remove p from group alone
    end repeat
    else
    make new group at the end of groups with properties {name:alone}
    end if
    save addressbook
    set dest to group alone
set pg to {} -- person in group
repeat with g in every group
set pg to pg & (name of every person of g)
    end repeat
    set p to every person
    repeat with i in p
if name of i is not in pg then
    add i to dest
    end if
    end repeat
    save addressbook
    end tell
Copy and paste the script into Script Editor and save it as a Script. Yu can then move it to your Address Book Scripts folder, inside your User Scripts folder and use the Script menu on your menu bar to activate it (if you have that item enabled). This will create a "No Group" group in Address Book, where all the ungrouped contacts will be listed; you can then move them to whatever group you like.
