Saving/Deleting Files - Please Help!

I am running Illustrator CS on Windows and have this intermittent problem:
Sometimes when I go to save an ai file, I will get a warning that says:
"The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."
I never set up a file as Read Only (I wouldn't even know how if I wanted to) and it is a stand-alone computer so I know that no other user has it open. Has anyone else seen this or know what to do?
Not only does this not allow me to save the file without renaming it, but if I try to go back to delete the previously named file, I get this warning:
"File in Use - The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program. Close the file and try again."
So, by the time I am done saving a file a few times, I have several different versions with different names that are filling up tons of disk space with files that can't even be deleted.
I am the only user, so I know these files are not in use by other users. I can even try to delete it from Windows Explorer with Illustrator closed and it still tells me the file is in use.
I contacted Adobe Support to help and they said my software was expired and would offer no help, so I am turning to you folks for help.

It might be a permissions problem and perhaps someone like Mylenium or jacob will stop by to help you fix it or it could be your settings folder is corrupt in the case try this
1. Quit Illustrator.
2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder.
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

Quit Safari.
Hold the shift key down and relaunch Safari.
Empty Caches
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.

Illustrator CS4 wont save files, please help?

You can edit a file, go to save, close it down, then when you re-open it the changes made have not been saved?? No error message or warning pops up, and it all looks ok like it has saved properly, until you open it up again. This also happens when you use 'save as' command if you use the original file name. If however you type in a different file name - it saves ok. But obviously that is not great as you cant now trust or rely on the save mechanism of the programme, to make sure any changes to artwork have been stored!! I have never seen an issue like this, it is worrying, I hope somebody can help?

We are running CS4 on windows7 - yes PC!!!

We save in EPS, and its not just one file, its a variety of different files and it seems to be random as to which files it does it on, some work fine - some don't. And it can be anything from a minor text change to a colour change, it doesnt seem to matter on the change made, it reacts the same.
The files are saved over a network connection to a large external hard drive.
Its really puzzling and now starting to cause problems as we do a fair bit of work in it, and can't trust one of the most important features, and that any changes that have been done have been saved and stored!
Hope maybe you can help with any thoughts at all.

The pictures that are on your phone, that you don't want, did they appear there after syncing with iTunes? Or were they taken with the iphone's camera?
Pictures synced from iTunes have to be removed by syncing again, but not having those pictures checked under the Photos tab in iTunes.

For clipboard copy, I start with File > New and the size will be set to what's in the clipboard. Then once the new file is opened, Edit > Paste will place the clipboard contents as a layer in the new document.
You must remember to use the command Layer > Flatten Image of you want to save as jpeg or any other file format that doesn't support layers.
For processing multiple files,
File > Automate > Batch or
File > Scripts > Image Processor...
Check the User guide or google information for those commands if you have specific needs.

After having experienced similar problems and having it back to work, I have a few suggestions:
- Try to find out if the syncing stops at a particular track or song. That might - out of the blue - have gotten corrupted in one way or another. Since that song will not be on the iPod, iTunes will try over and over to put it on and crash in one way or another;
- reformat the iPod as described in the iTunes 9 crash-thread. It takes time (at first it seems to do nothing, but that is because the green bar is moving with very small steps);

It could be Word or even Windows that is having the problem. Before you start trying to restore a backup or repair a file, try opening other documents.

I had an audio file made on Garage Band but it was unsaved. I left my computer on at night and for some reason this morning my computer had seemed tor restart. I opened the garage band file but nothing came up.
Is there any way I can recover this 'unsaved file'? It must be stored in cache somewhere.

I would just like to say Thanks to HangTime up there. This trick worked 100% ... I had recorded 8 or 9 rather long tracks; for an unexpected reason (first time I've ever seen the "gray screen of death") the popup window came up and in several languages told me I needed to restart the computer; did what it told me to, begrudingly. Came back online, opened the GB file, nothing was there. Yet, when I checked package contents for the file (which I didn't even know existed, compartmentalized "Media", until after reading this), there were the tracks! I owe you both for getting this up and running... album creds just may be in line. ~Matt

In theory, an IMAP server should never present different views of the same inbox to different IMAP clients. (I assume you did verify that the laptop and the older iPad were accessing the server using IMAP; some servers offer both IMAP and POP.) The clients could react differently, but I am not aware of any settings that would cause what you are seeing.
I know this sounds like a cliche, but have you tried power-cycling or resetting the iPad Mini?

On my new Imac, I had the trial version of Pages, and saved some files in it. Now I have purchased the full version from Apple via a download, but I cannot save or print the old files, please help!

My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.
