Saving docs in iCloud

Is there a way to save a pages document to both iCloud and  my macbook pro - for when I'm not online. Thanks for any Help   Cheers, David

Dave,
You can access the iCloud docs, like others, in the Open Recent list under the File menu.
Browsing to the local copy is not so trivial.
In Finder, click on the Go menu while you press the Option Key and choose the Library option.
In Library, your User Library, navigate to Mobile Documents.
Your Finder window's name will change to iCloud.
Then navigate to "com~apple~Pages", "Documents".

Jerry

  • Re-saving docs in iCloud

I have Pages and Numbers documents saved on my Mac. How do I now save them in iCloud? When I choose Save As, I get no iCloud option.
Kind of a basic question, I know.

There shouldn't be a Save As... option in the version of Pages that is compatible with icloud.  There should be a "Move To..." option available.  Pages is version 4.3.

  • On Pages 09, my word documents I've been saving it to iCloud, to access anywhere, but I would like to keep my docs organized in files on my finder as usual, and saving to iCloud, I lose my local one.How can I fix it and not desorganize my files?

It's either in local folders, as it seem you had been doing, or in icloud.  If you go into the mac's Pages and view the icloud files, you can drag on onto another to create a folder.  But you can only have folder one level deep, so you can't organize your files/folders like you can on a mac, using nested folder several levels deep.

  • Saving Keynote docs in iCloud

    Hello!
I recently downloaded Keynote, and I am trying to save a Keynote presentation in my iCloud, but iCloud is not coming up as an option under "Where" (to save).  How can I fix this? (note - this is my first time saving anything to iCloud, so perhaps I don't have it set up properly?  I do have "Documents and Data" checked in System Preferences -> iCloud.)
    Thanks!

Check out this Apple Document to make sure you have the correct system and application requirements for what you're trying to do: iCloud: System requirements

  • Saving MSW or TextEdit docs to iCloud - where are they for retrieval?

It does not help being ignorant about iCloud, but I am.
I was saving a transcript in TextEdit when the iCloud prompt screen appeared indicating I could save it there. Because I have no idea where it can be retrieved, I saved it as normal, which is not a problem for me whatsover because I have a meticulously operated IMac with specific folders to save all my documents for various organizations including personal files Something I have done for over 10 years without any problems when it comes to retrieving files for later use. My IMac and MacBook are not lacking storage space. Have lots to spare.
Ancient users like me from the past century may not be catching onto iCloud like I should. I went to a Mountain Lion workshop but it was mostly an overview, no specifics. I found out that Apple has 3 new programs that simulate MSW Office documents. I have a sense that MSW Office files are not compatible with iCloud storage.
Okay! I need help to better understand saving files to iCloud and where on my system is iCloud to retrieve them? And, upon doing so, when I go to my MacBook, can I retrieve the same files on this device?
Dummy #1, for sure! Your patience and understanding will be most appreciated. Look forward to your assistance.

It will have been saved in your Home/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TestEdit/Documents folder.
    But remember:
In Lion and Mountain Lion that Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Can I use Safari to edit Numbers doc on iCloud?

Before getting Numbers, I need to know more about how it works with iCloud. I see that iCloud has a section called "iWork" with a tab for Numbers. I assume that if I have created a Numbers document and saved it in iCloud, I will see it on the page shown by clicking on that Numbers tab. I also know that I will be able to edit the document from an iMac, iPhone, and iPad. My question is, essentially, HOW can I edit a Numbers doc in iCloud? More specifically, can I open the Numbers doc and edit it directly in Safari while navigating iCloud, like a note in Notes, or must I always use the Numbers program/app to edit a Numbers doc saved on iCloud?
Of course, I will need to buy Numbers to create a Numbers document in the first place, but can I then edit it in Safari by opening the doc in Safari on the iCloud web site?
If I must always use the Numbers program/app to edit a document, then what, if any, functionality does iCloud provide for Numbers docs beyond that provided by DropBox?
    Same question for Pages.

    Louie,
iCloud is, in theory, better integrated. That assumes all the latest software on all platforms, OS and Numbers.
Dropbox seems to me to be more stable than iCloud, but that's just my impression.
iCloud is just the messenger that moves the documents between machines. Safari can not be used to edit an iWork document. Connecting to iCloud with your browser a;;pws you to view and manage the files stored there, but doesn't give you content editing tools.

  • My iPod was stolen! I need to access info it saved to the iCloud!

A couple of weeks ago, my iPod Touch was stolen by my downstairs neighbors.  Long story, but I know it was them.  I had been using it as a motion-activated surveillance camera.  I was using an app called iVigilo SmartCam+ with the extra addons, like motion sensor and video recording.  So, one of the options in the app allows for these videos to be saved to my Camera Roll, Apple's iCloud, and iVigilo's Cloud.  That's three different places.
Now, I've managed to access the files saved from iVigilo's Cloud, which was 99% of the video.  According to an admin of the app, the last "event" only showed up as a photo instead of a video, was because the app or device or internet was interrupted before the video could be saved to the cloud.  The app first takes a photo when motion is detected, which is then used as the thumbnail to the video in the app when reviewing the saved events.
So, the admin told me that there is still a small chance that even part of that video could be saved to Apple's iCloud.  Now, he told me that this is possible if using a Mac computer, but I unfortunately do not own or even know anyone with a Mac.  I only have Windows computers.  Now, when I open iCloud on my pc, if I click on "Manage..." it pops up a new window and shows me that I have some backups saved, mail saved, but also that iVigilo has what looks like all three days' worth of footage saved, but all iCloud lets me do is delete it, but I sure don't want to do that.  I've been told about the "Mobile Documents" folder that gets saved by iCloud on a Mac, but how do I get my info of the iCloud with a pc?
Or, is it possible somehow to force my iPhone to use the iPod's backup?  Maybe the video I need got saved to my Camera Roll in time?
Oh, and I had the Find my iPhone thing turned on on the iPod and used the Lost Mode for it from my iPhone, but either the theif wiped the iPod, just isn't telling it to connect to WiFi (I had auto-ask to join networks turned off), or they short-circuited the device when they stole it because the power cable was plugged in at the time and they either riped or cut it right from the cable.  I immediately called the cops at what turned out to be 5 hours after the theft, but the cops said that without proof and the neighbor denying it, they couldn't do anything about it.  The neighbor denied to the cop about even knowing the device was there, which turned out to be a lie because the last actual video I have been able to access shows her going down the stairs, stops next to the device (which is at this point in a black fabric case I made myself and this fabric case is zip-tied to the metal stair railing. The entire device is covered except a hole I cut out for the camera.), she then bends over to look at the front of the camera, and then continues down the stairs, goes into her apartment, leaving the door open, talks to her sister that's inside the apartment, and you hear her clearly say, "There is a f***ing camera setup out here on the stairs."  Then, barely two minutes later, when the camera detects the next movement is just the photo taken, showing that sister coming out of the apartment towards the device.  How is this NOT enough evidence to get her???  So, if I can even get just a little bit of that missing video, there couldn't be anymore doubts!

You can restore the iPhone from an iPod backup as long as the iOS version on the iPhone is equal to or greater than the iOS version on the iPod. If you restore from iTunes backup all the apps have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup.that iTunes makes.

  • I saved docs from a iMac to a flashdrive but when I plug the flashdrive into an iBookG4 and try to open the docs on the flashdrive, I get this message: Doc 2 cannot be opened. The required index.xml file is missing.

I saved docs from a iMac to a flashdrive but when I plug the flashdrive into an iBookG4 and try to open the docs on the flashdrive, I get this message: Doc 2 cannot be opened. The required index.xml file is missing. Does this mean that I can't use the info on the flashdrive with the iBookG4 or can I do something to get the required index.xml file?
    Thanks

It appears if you write the document with newer version Pages and try to open it older version Pages.

  • If I delete docs from iCloud off of iPhone 4s, will it delete it from the iCloud in general? aka will I still be able to pull up from my MAC?

If I delete specific documents and data from my phone, using my phone b/c its staying icloud storage is full & my phone is freezing up....will it actually delete the docs from icloud so that when I use my MAC, they will be gone as well?  Not sure if it is deleting from phone or iCloud for computer too.
Also, I don't want documents on my phone - when I save them from computer to iCloud, it seems to go there anyway & take up storage I need to run phone.
    argh
thanks for help, I am horrible with technology so excuse my basic questions

What I mean is still track my stolen one. I don't know if this will make sense to you but I'm thinking that if I restore the back up data on this phone..on my stolen phone it will like forget the icloud account or something and think this phone is the stolen one so when I go to track the stolen one, it will show that phone as the one I have now because I restored the back up from that phone.

  • Is there a way to create a batch export of pages docs from iCloud?

I have been using Pages pretty much exclusively for the past couple of years. The new, crippled version has put an end to that.  But I have about 1000 docs in iCloud that I need to get out of iCloud an onto to some usable platform like Goggle Docs (which does seem to keep improving, unlike iWork). I suspect that Automator or Applescript may be able to do this, but I'd appreciate any pointers.

If you synchronize Notes with iCloud, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Notes. If you sync Notes with another mail service, disable that in the Internet Accounts or Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane. You may be warned that notes stored on the server will be deleted. If you trust your backups, confirm. Leave the window open.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.apple.Notes" selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash, then restore it from a backup that predates the unwanted change. If you back up with Time Machine, enter it and select the snapshot from which you want to restore.
Log out or restart and empty the Trash.
Re-enable synchronization in System Preferences, if you disabled it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • What is saved in an iCloud contacts backup?

I was extremely misled, by an Apple Store Genius last night, into doing a full reset to factory settings on my iPhone4s, just due to it starting to get hot.. They didn't even know why it would not reactivate, after reloading the iOS and I had to find out myself today, that it was due to Find my iPhone being on and Activation Lock preventing the activation.  A simple login to iCloud and removing my cell from my device list, corrected that problem immediately.  I met with 1/2 dozen techs and a manager and none of them knew this??
Anyway, the "genius" had me backup my contacts on iCloud, which I have never used before.  They all transferred and I could see them via my laptop, when back at home.  After I figured out the activation error, I first tired to setup my iphone as a new phone and decided that was too much work, considering I think my original issue of overheating is a hardware problem anyway, so I plugged in my cell to my laptop and did a restore from the backup I did yesterday..
Much to my extreme, freaking out disappointment, none of my music or ringtones transferred...
My question is, are the ringtones, that I had assigned to different contacts, associated with my saved contacts on iCloud?  If so, can I override the contacts on my phone now, (without their personalized ringtones) with the iCloud version, that may still have those associated ringtones?
I build them all individually, editing the parts of the songs that reminded me of that person.  I do not see any of them saved on my laptop, though they were visable in iTunes yesterday, prior to this whole mess.
P.S. Now I also have the problem of my iPhone not powering off.. It just comes back on.  Read about dock connection problems and water damage, etc., the only thing that ever came near that connector was an Apple charger and one of the "geniuses" cleaning it out for me last night...

If your ringtones are no longer in your iTunes library you're probably out of luck.  The iTunes backup doesn't include ringtones because they are assumed to be in your iTunes library.
You can download your contacts from iCloud and replace the contacts on your phone with those, but it isn't going to include your ringtones or their associations with contacts.

  • Ipad (OS 5.1.1) using pages incompatible with icloud.  If I open up one of the docs from icloud, I can no longer open it on my ipad.  Looks like the pages version gets updated to a version that is incompatible with my ipad.

I have the original ipad (OS 5.1.1) using pages 1.7.2 and backing up to icloud.  If I open up one of the docs from icloud, I can no longer open it on my ipad.  Looks like the pages version gets updated to a version that is incompatible with my ipad.  Is there anyway stopping icloud from changing the version and is there a way to recover the old version of the document on my ipad?

Upgrade to Snow Leopard - it's compatible with the latest version of iTunes, and still supports PowerPC applications.
    $19.99 - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Snow Leopard is required if you wanted to upgrade to Lion, anyway, which you may want to in the future if the latest version of iTunes no longer supports Snow Leopard.

  • HT204394 how do i put microsoft word docs onto icloud

how do i put microsoft word docs onto icloud so that i can transfer to my mac book

    Not really.
You can sign into iCloud.com from a web browser on your PC.
Open Pages and drag the Word document in or click the Gear on the top right and upload.
This will convert it to a Pages document. It will be accessible to you through iCloud and the Pages app on your iOS devices. You can always redownload the file from iCloud as a Word document.
As with any document conversion, this may alter the formatting.

Do you mean they are on the web at iCloud.com or on your PC in an iCloud client (such as Outlook)
