Saving documents in binary (B+W) not grayscale

Is it possible to save a PDF/A in binary (B+W) as opposed to grayscale? Is it possible to do batch?

It is easy to create sub-folders for your user-created templates in Pages. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in Numbers. First, you need to access the templates folder in your user library. Pages stores those you created & saved as templates in (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. The user's Library is hidden in Lion & Mountain Lion but it is easy to open. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your user Library will appear about halfway down the list.
Or you can choose Go to Folder from the Go menu in Finder & paste this line in the box:
~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates/
Now, create folders in the Templates folder, same level as the My Templates folder. You will now have sub-categories in the My Templates section of the template chooser.

Word saving documents as binary files- can't send documents as attachments

I've had my Macbook for about 9 months. During the first 6 months, I could send attachments via email perfectly fine. After about 6 months, something happened and the files could no longer be opened after being attached. I tried sending some attachments to myself and found out that the documents were being sent as binary files.
I also backed up my documents onto an external hard drive. When I opened the documents on a Windows computer, the Word documents that I created during the first 6 months could be opened. However, the most recently created documents couldn't be opened by my computer.
I decided to do an erase and install on Saturday. Afterwards, Word was working fine and I was able to send documents as attachments. This morning (Tuesday) I tried to send attachments again and it didn't work! Again, the documents were binary files.
I'm not sure what to do because it was working fine for three days, but now it's not working anymore. I think something must have happened during those three days that corrupted my computer?
Has anyone had a similar problem? Can anyone help?
Sorry I know it was a long post but I wanted to give more information in case it would give some clues. I feel I should add that I've been having quite a few problems with my Macbook, e.g. screen freezing, DMGs not loading properly, getting some pop ups

Also wanted to add that I've had my logicboard replaced recently because of problems such as freezing, so I don't think it should be a hardware problem.

Since Word is not an Apple product, you'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?sel=33607053> rather than an Apple forum that focuses on compatibility between Macs and Windows.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered. You'll get your answer faster this way. Post your question in the forum if you don't find anything that helps you

Getting error: The document [document title was here] could not be saved."

I am getting this error when trying to save a Numbers spreadsheet:
"The document (document title was here) could not be saved."
I created this spreadsheet from scratch in the numbers format, and I have been using it for several weeks now.
When I 'get info' on the file and look at the file permissions, I see that my user has read and write access to the file. It is in the /Users/Shared directory as I share it with others on this computer. No other users are logged in, therefore the file is only open by me.
I have already tried restarting the computer, and that didn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated with this! I think others on this forum may have had a similar problem but they were blaming it on opening the file over a network. In my case as you can see, it is all local to my computer.

I had to restore from time machine from yesterday, then save as a different file. This allows me to edit the copy, but as soon as I try to edit it as a different use I go back to the same old problems again, even if the user has read & write permissions on the file and the directory the file is in.

On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved. It's saved at:
~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac.

I'm not sure that Lion AutoSave feature apply to network servers.
I'm just sure that the Versions feature doesn't.

My newest version of Pages won't open previous saved documents. It keeps saying this version not supported please update, but it already is. Please help.

My previously saved documents in Pages will not open. When I click on one of the documents it is saying, "you need a newer version of Pages to open this document. You can download the latest version of Pages from the Apps Store, but when I click on the apps store, it states that is installed and running the current version. Help, I can't open any of my saved documents.

The problem is that you have both versions of pages on your computer - pages 09 is in the dock with the old ink pot icon - pages version 5 (orange pen and paper icon) is in your applications folder. Delete your pages 09 icon from your dock by dragging it upwards in a puff of smoke - and drag the pages 05 icon from the applications folder to your dock and use that in future. This fixed it for me.
I presume I can uninstall pages 09 now. You need to do the same with numbers and keynote.

Why does new version of Adobe reader for Windows 8 not give signed and saved document the "signed" extension when you save the file after placing a signature... this worked on an earler version.

I have upgraded my PC to new Windows 8 machine .. Now when I place a signature on document and save it does not automatically place a "signed" extension on the filename. Previous version on my machine always did this.

When you "save as" as opposed to simply "save", there is sometimes a different location for the file to be saved. When you "save as" to the same location as an original, you will bewarned that a file already exists with that name and be asked if you're sure you want ot overwrite the original file. If you didn't see that when "saving as", you probably saved the signed file to a different location.

When I open a saved document in pages, then close it right away without making any changes, why does it ask if I would like to save the page or all new info will be lost?

I have a few saved documents and when I open them to view them quick, sometimes when I close it, I will get asked if I would like to save the document or all my new info will be lost. I didnt change anything so Im not sure why it asks me that. When I open the document again, all the info is there and nothing is different. Thanks

Unless they were Word documents, Pages has done nothing really, but it is updating date information in the file.
It is annoying but just ignore it and don't save.

I can only find the first page of a 5 page saved document on my macbook pro. Also all my sent email is missing.

I saved a 5 page document on my macpro laptop in iwork. I emailed the document. The person claimed she didn't get the email. When I went to look at my sent mail the entire sent mail folder is gone and my saved document is also gone except for the first page. What happened? How can I get it back?
Also, how did my Notes app stuff end up in my aol emal folders?

Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. How far do you get?

Error occurred while saving document in Web Analysis Studio

We have encountered an issue when we tried to save a new report in Web Analysis. An error message box will prompt up displaying "Error occurred while saving document." (Please refer to the attached screenshots). Clicking the details button gives no response.
Originally we encountered this whilst creating a report with an SQL spreadsheet (JDBC connection tested successfully), which failed to save. Proceeding to test this saving a blank report also gave the same error message.
The report shows up in the Oracle view, however also produces an error when trying to open it. "Unable to perform request
Undefined exception encountered. Recommended Action: Contact your corporate technical support." (Please refer to the attached screenshots)

Thanks for your reply. I am already using the admin account which is given administrator provisioning under Reporting & Analysis. I have not had issues in the past of saving documents to the server location (e.g. with FR studio). Any ideas as to what else could cause this error? Thanks!

Print in Black and White, NOT GRAYSCALE!

I'm trying to print on my Mac in Black and White -- NOT grayscale. The printer I'm using is a thermal printer that prints on heat-sensitive card-stock (a DataMax E-4203 printer) and when I print bar-codes on there the edges of the bar-codes are "fuzzy" as the Mac tries to convert it into a grayscale image instead of a pure black-and-white image. With the edges being fuzzy instead of crisp, the bar-code scanner device I have simply cannot read the bar-codes. If I use the software on a Windows machine, it prints the bar-codes perfectly, because in Windows I can set the printer to be Black and White, instead of Grayscale..
So, on a Mac (Mac Pro, OS X 10.7.3) how do I set it to print in pure Black and White, not Grayscale?

You're taking a rather large loss on a new computer and spending the money on another one to fix one issue on an obscure piece of hardware? Do this instead.
1) Cancel the order on the Dell.
2) Use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac Pro. WAY less expensive to buy a copy of Win 7 to run on your Mac than the money you're planning to flush down the drain.
3) Get on the lazy butts of the company that make your thermal printer to write a Mac driver that has all of the same settings and features of the Windows driver. Which may not be easy as their site marks the printer you have as discontinued, though still supported.
DataMax has one heck of a crappy site. I've looked around a dozen pages and can't find something as simple as print drivers to download.
Yes, DataMax's web-site is awful... But they don't support the Mac at all, so even if their web-site was great, you'd never find Mac drivers to download... The Mac driver for this printer comes from a company called the Peninsula Group, and they write drivers for dozens of different thermal printers... They claim that they cannot write a driver that has all the features of the DataMax Windows driver, because of limitations of the CUPS printing system on the Mac... I claim that's B.S., but how am I going to prove otherwise?
I considered running the Mac in Windows BootCamp mode all the time -- but then what's the point in owning a Mac? Originally I was happy to be making the switch from PC to Mac... But everything (not just printing, but nearly everything I do) is more difficult on a Mac... Owning this machine has been the worst computing experience I've ever had... No joke.. I've never had such trouble doing what I want to do... Nothing works the way it should work. Nothing.
If I had been using Macs all along, then perhaps I'd feel differently... But everything is so different on a Mac, that I just can't seem to get used to it... For crying out loud, the Home and End keys don't even work right!! I hit End and I expect the cursor to go to the end of the LINE, not the end of the DOCUMENT! (End of the document is what Ctrl+End is for, dammit!) What the **** is up with that?! And scrolling is wrong, too... It scrolls up when I pull down on the mouse-scroll. Everything is backwards on the Mac... I've truly grown to hate it the more I use it... I'll not be buying another Mac, if I can help it... Wish I'd never bought this one... Call it a very expensive lesson learned...

Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only.” Dr. Google finds others with this problem. Some claim that this is caused by an upgrade of Apple OS10 (which I did do). One claims that HP has a "patch" for this problem. If I try to quit HP scan, it won't quit and freezes my computer. Here's the odd thing. I have no problem scanning in a colored page from Scientific American either before or after this error (after rebooting each time), but simple black and white documents started just today to give the error message above.

Thank you for the link however if I understood all of the instructions I would still be reluctant to try this on my own especially from a third unknown party where some of the information may be wrong and/or lost in translation. (Google translation at the end of this comment). The instructions say to uninstall the software. So if I uninstall the original HP software am I using the original disk to reinstall and then personalize again?What about all of the updates since I originally installed the software? I found the Disk Utility but what is "gatekeeper"And I am using OS X 10.9.1 that is current because I downloaded the latest upgrade. How would I reinstall it?And at what point do I go to the URL for the software drivers and the patch? I have the familiar Mavericks issue of failing to save scanned files from my Mac:
"An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to. Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only."
As far as I can see, there has been no resolution to this issue, despite reassurances dating to last fall (2013).
The support website acts funky, too, sending me around in circles when I try to download the drivers; it may be a Safari-only problem, but still, please fix your software!

This error message comes up every time I try to save a scanned document to my mac 10.9 .4 . I have reset the software for my HP C5180.All in one. I have not had te problem before, just recently following some upgrades ....any suggestions how to fix this, on reading forums it seems its a common problem.. not good .

Please try the following:
Reset the printing system. OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system.
Verify and repair disk permissions. Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions.

I have signed in to acrobat.
I have exported the document to acrobat.
I have saved the PDF in acrobat cloud.
I need this document as a word doc so that I can learn how to use my scientific calculator for an exam.

From the document
        When I try the file save as other, nothing happens after I click on Word or Excel Online.
        There is no way I can click on the convert button on Export PDF.
        I am logged in as you can see.
        When I go to Cloud Acrobat I can see the file there but only as a PDF.
        There is no word document there.
        As you can see I have tried this more than once.
I just don’t know what to do from there.
