Saving Dynamic PDF's

I have a dynamic .pdf that pulls certain pages based on information passed through an URL. After that .pdf is created - is there a way to save it as a static .pdf so the form can remain in that current state?

Acrobat 8 Professional includes LiveCycle Designer 8, so if the form was created with LiveCycle Designer 8 or older, the yes should have the option to edit the form. Acrobat 8 Professional under the menu option 'Forms' will have an option to open the form in LiveCycle Designer. If the form was created with a newer version, there could be some issues with newer features not available in version 8.

  • Saving a pdf when dynamically build by a servlet

    Hi,
    How is it possible to initialize the "File name" field when saving a pdf content ?
    I'm generating reports in a pdf format with a servlet. This way, the servlet is called by a Url and the result is displayed directly in the browser.
    Now, if I click on the save button, the opened window suggest the url (http://....) as file name.
    Is it possible to send a default file name that is not trhe url ?

    I was interested in your question, since we have a similar application where I work, and every PDF always defaults to the name of the servlet when attempting to save it.
    I don't believe it would be possible to change that. The PDF viewer (Acrobat in my case) doesn't know or care whether the content is dynamically generated or a static .pdf file, it just knows that the browser went to a certain site and retrieved a file for it to open. So it appears to me that the decision of what default name to give the file is made at the browser/viewer level rather than by the servlet. I could be wrong, of course--I'd be glad to see any other suggestions.

    I have a dynamic form that I created and I need to get it posted but am having some issues.
    1. I need the fields to be optional and it tells me that the information entered is not what was expected
    2. I have a button to click that will send the completed form to a department mailbox, but when the form arrives it is a .xml and only contains the newly entered information. What did I do wrong? I saved it as a dynamic pdf.
    3. Is there a way to send you my form so that we can talk about it together???
    I am on the verge of tears with frustration.....

    Here is the warning message I get.  This is from the Preview PDF mode.

    I have working on this since January along with many other projects (mostly presentations) and the department that this form is for is chomping at the bit because they need to track their training requests coming in and are working to shift the process of how you request training for the entire enterprise.  I am attaching the form so maybe you can take a peek at the damage I’ve done ☺  I think it would be helpful if I took a class, everything I’ve done I’ve taught myself with trial and tissues!

  • HELP ME PLEASE !!! dynamic pdf with table grows each time it's saved and reopened??? HELP PLEASE !

    Hi, I hope someone can help me. I created a form (dynamic pdf) with Livecycle ES 8.2.
    This document has a table in which rows are added when the user clicks on a button.
    The document in design stage takes up no more than 1/2 an A4. Here are my two problems;
    1. When the document is opened in Reader (9.3) it is all formatted correctly accept the one row, in it's default state (which can be added to by clicking button) is now three rows????
    2. Whether the two extra rows are deleted or filled in or whether more rows are added and filled in, if the document is saved and opened again with reader it has grown to a full page (of empty default rows). If saved again, it grows to 4 pages and so on.
    Can somebody please help me. I can supply a copy of my file if necessary.
    I don't know if this makes a difference, but the document is protected with a password to open in Livecycle and it also has user rights assigned for the user to be able to save a copy on their local machine (not just allowed to fill out and print).
    My email is [email protected]
    Would appreciate any help that can be offered. My document is ready (accept for this issue) for me to use in my job.
    Regards
    Bradd

    Bradd,
    Please forward the form and I can take a look. If you want to forward a version of the form that is not password protected or send the password in a separate email, that is up to you.

  • I can't get my Dynamic PDF Widget to work in Captivate 7

    Hello all,
    I've been trying to get my Dynamic PDF to work in my Captivate 7 project. I have created a button on the final slide where I want the user to open the PDF, I have named it correctly to correspond with the Dynamic PDF. I have also updated everything within the editor to appear how I would like it to appear. I have also tried viewing it in various formats such as Published, In a Browser etc. and nothing appears to work for me.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance!
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
    Please make sure that the pdf is also saved in the same published folder .
    Also test the behavior in other browsers as well like Chrome and Firefox .
    If you still face this issue then try to add the published output in trusted location of Flash.

  • Adobe Reader XI - dynamic PDF Form and the E-Mail Dialog

    Hi Community,
    I have a dynamic PDF Form and we use the E-Mail function to save the XML-Data to local harddrive. That works until Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.2. But with the Adobe Reader XI (11.0.4) the E-Mail Dialog has changed so I am One is forced to send the XML file with Outlook or the internal mailer and has no option to save the file locally.
    Does anyone know a workaround or something similar. The Live Cycle server with PDF extension is too expensive for our small project.
    E-Mail Dialog (10.1.2)
    If you choose Internet-E-Mail you get a Save-As File Dialog
    E-Mail Dialog (11.0.4)
    There is no way to save the XML-Data to local Harddrive.

    Hi Pat,
    Are you using Adobe Reader XI? And not Acrobat. It does not ask me to save the form if there are unsaved changes.
    I have used previous versions of reader for saving this form data and it did allow me to save it with ctrl+s. And those versions did prompt me to save the changes before closing.
    I guess I should not have updated the reader.

  • Dynamic PDF field value doesn't display XFDF value when no keyboard focus

    I created a simple PDF (test.pdf) file (one text field), and saved it as a "static PDF". I created a XFDF file, and when I double-click on the XFDF file, the sample PDF opens and the field is populated.
    Here's the problem: I save test.pdf as a "dynamic pdf" file. I double-click on the xfdf file and the pdf opens up, but the data is not displayed in the field. If you click on the field, the text appears. If you click out of the field, it disappears. If you update the field value, and navigate away, the value stays.
    There is nothing but the field on the page, no scripts, no subforms, nothing.
    Is this a bug in Adobe Reader 7.0? or is there some weird setting in Live Cycle Designer that I'm missing?
    Thanks

    What is your xfdf file look like? Something like:<br /><br /><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><br />     <xfdf xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/xfdf/" xml:space="preserve"><br />          <f href="file:///C|/test3.pdf" /><br />     <fields><br />          <field name="firstName"><br />               <value>William</value><br />          </field><br />          <field name="lastName"><br />               <value>White</value><br />          </field><br />     </fields><br /></xfdf>

  • Dynamic PDF's for Mobile Devices

    I have been converting my company's forms to dynamic pdf format using ES4 to facilitate completion and submission by our highly dispersed workforce.  These forms are unfortunately not accessible on the mobile devices our field employees typically use.  Can anyone suggest resources that a layman can use to learn about and utilize ES4's mobile forms and HTML5 capabilities?  All the information I have located on the Adobe website appears to be oriented to programmers or developers, and my (small) company does not have the financial resources to engage a consultant for this purpose.  Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions.

    Hi,
    In short, what you're attempting to do can be very costly if you stick with the Adobe LiveCycle ES solution to render forms on mobile devices (via their mobile forms platform). Also, if you're not familiar with the technology, you'd definitely need  to engage a consultant in addition to purchasing the require server-side modules to render your forms in HTML5?
    Questions:
    1. What mobile devices are being used in the field?
    2. Do your forms absolutely need to be made dynamic, or could they be saved as "static" XFA, instead? If you're doing things like adding rows to tables, hiding/revealing subforms, etc. then yes, the forms would need be dynamic. But if your forms do not need to be dynamic and/or you can tweak the design logic so the form is rendered in a static layout, then using the forms on an iPad is possible via the app "PDF Expert". PDF Expert can read/render static XFA files HOWEVER there's no support for javascript in that format. On the Android side, the app "qPDF Notes" provides support for static XFA PDFs.
    On the other hand...if users are able to use a Windows PRO based tablet (i.e. something like the Surface Pro 2, or even something less expensive running Windows PRO - not RT), then you could install Adobe Reader or Acrobat and use the dynamic forms, as is, on those tablet...no need for HTML5 rendering.
    In either case, the solutions mentioned about would be far less expensive (and less complicated) to trying to using ES4 mobile forms.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I create a Dynamic PDF in ColdFusion

    I am using ColdFusion CS4 and I need to create a dynamic PDF certificate for the user when they finish a short test.
    Their name is in a session var and should dynamically enter in to the Name field of the certificate as well as the date.
    The user can print The PDF certificate, which must be protected to Allow Print only.
    I have a PDF created in Adobe Lifecycle Designer. This contains all the data and a text field Name and Data that needs the dynamic input from ColdFusion.
    <cfpdfform action="populate" source="certificate.pdf">
          <cfpdfsubform name="form1">
                <cfpdfsubform name="page1">
                      <cfpdfformparam name="employeeName" value="John Hollings" />

                      </cfpdfsubform>
          </cfpdfsubform>
    </cfpdfform>
    Thsi work but the PDF textFields are open to edit, I need to lock down the PDF so only printing can operate...
    No Copy of data
    No Saving the file (if possible)
    Only print and close

    If I make a form in Adobe Pro9 it opens Lifecycle and I am back there.
    Unfortunately, I am not using Acrobat 9/LiveCycle. So I cannot really provide any specifics there. For usage questions, you might try asking on the Acrobat/LiveCycle forums.   But from CF's perspective, the key is the form's _format_.  Acrobat (AcroForms) and LiveCycle forms are two totally different formats internally.  (Like MS Office 2007 files versus MS Office 2003 files). To flatten a form from CF, it must be an AcroForm:

    Well as I mentioned, you can use cfpdf or ddx to set whatever permissions you need. The default is "All" (ie all actions are allowed) but you can restrict the permissions by passing in a list of which permissions _should_ be allowed. Anything not included in the list will be restricted.
    <cfpdf permissions="None" ...>   OR
    <cfpdf permissions="AllowPrinting" ...>  OR
    <cfpdf permissions="AllowPrinting,AllowCopy" ...>  OR

  • Not embed fonts saving as pdf

    Hi everyone
    Just a quick question.. before I start to dig myself.
    We save our LC design forms in the source format .xdp. When we publish them we select File > saveAs and choose dynamic pdf.
    but LC designer will always embed fonts in the pdf. We have to open our pdf in LC designer a remove 'embed font' under File > Form properties (this can only be fone to a pdf, so we need an additional save as ZZZZZZZ).
    Question:
    Anyone have solution on setting LC designer ud to not embed fonts when saving and xdp to dynamic pdf? is the a config file or registry setting to edit?
    help is very welcome

    hi Jyske,
    What you can do is to add the following line in the .tds (template) files that Livecycle uses:
    <?templateDesigner SavePDFWithEmbeddedFonts 0?>
    and this just before the closing </template> element in the xml source.
    You find these templates in the <Livecycle Designer Installation folder>\EN\Templates

  • ImportData() in a Dynamic PDF in Reader

    Hello. I am attempting to create a PDF that reads XML that was generated by a different PDF. One of my requirements is that the PDFs must work in Reader.
    I started off using a Static PDF and the xfa.host.importData() method. This works in Reader, except for when there is more than one instance of an XML element in the imported file. So then I saved the PDF as a Dynamic PDF, and now the call to importData() no longer works in Reader.
    Are there restrictions on Dynamic PDFs in Reader?
    Thanks in advance.

    This don't seems to be a problem of the form.
    It's more likely that Readers save operation fails because the file is used by another process (Exploerers preview pane for example) or there are no rights to save into the current directory.

  • Java Library for dynamic PDF form creation similar to LiveCycle Designer

    Hi
    I have a requirement as below :
    Requirement :  I need to create a dynamic PDF form with a barcode of type PDF417. Where a user can fill the form offline and after click on some button it will save the form offline and generate a barcode in the same PDF. Later on usaer can take a printout or send the saved pdf as it is.
    Currently I am able to create such pdf from using LiveCycle Designer. But I need to create it manually using designer and then need to apply Reader Extension on it using livecycle server.
    I want to do this programatically. I would like to create a similar form using some Java Library.
    Is it possible to create it dynamicaly(using programs)? how ?
    Does any one know how to acheive this ?
    Can anyone help me please ?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    I heard about LiveCycle ES3 server and was wondering if it could be of any use in my scenario. Can some one explain how to use jar files in standalone application .  I explored the  livecycle forms api but could not figure out how it may be used ?

  • Dynamic PDF won't decode in e-mail

    I created a dynamic form in LiveCycle Designer from one of the templates. I added a "Submit by E-mail" button to the form, and entered my e-mail address so that people in my office could just send the form to me right away and not have to try to save it and then send it. I saved the form as a dynamic pdf. I went to test it for myself, filled out the form, and sent it via e-mail. The e-mail sent, and I got it in my inbox, but I couldn't open it. First it tried to open in an internet window and it was all coded. Then I tried to save it an open it in Adobe Reader, but I got a message saying it couldn't be opened because the file was damaged or not properly decoded through the e-mail. I've been searching all morning trying to find a fix for this. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

    What is your operating system?  E-mail client?  Reader version?
    What means "it was all coded"?
