Saving effects?

How can I save my own effects at Motion? For example, could I make an interesting effect using two or three filters and save it? other example, can I save a camera moviment of using camera behaviors like as dolly and sweep. At FCP I know it is possible save my effects, but in Motion...
thx

To have a custom effect, Copy to Favorites Folder as Peter said. The simple trick if you have multiple filters/behaviors effects you want to save as a custom effect is to select all of them. Drag them to the Favorites folder in the Library. Don't release until you see a menu that says MULTIPLE FILES or ALL IN ONE FILE - sounds like you want all in one file. Then NAME it what you want and it will be there to drag to other projects. You can also share that file with others (it is a NAME.molo file in the Favorites folder of the Motion Library.

  • Saving Effects Presets and the new Mask feature-are masks supposed to be saved?

I'm finding that if I put a new mask on a clip (say a mosaic) and then adjust the mask so it's over someones face, then save a custom preset so I can call up the effect faster when I need it again (ideally just moving the position of the mosaic and perhaps adjusting it's size), the mask IS NOT saved in the preset.  I'm referring to highlighing the MOSASIC filter, then right-clicking SAVE PRESET, giving it a name and having it show up in the EFFECTS panel "Preset" bin.
Is the mask you create in a filter SUPPOSED to be saved as part of that preset you're saving as mine are not.  It does save the MOSAIC filter and any adjustments I've made to the horizontal and vertical blocks, but not the mask itself.  That seems like an oversight.  I find this interesting because if I've COPY  the clip that paste it's attributes to another clip, in that case it DOES take the MASK with it and I can manipualte, but not when saving as a PRESET.
I'm trying to determine if I'm having a problem or if saving the mask you create in the mosaic (or any filter) is supposed to save with a preset or not?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

i have the same issue. i applied a mask to the color corrector (3 way) and when i saved the preset the mask did not save. anyone else? help on this?

  • STP not saving effects

This one has me beat! - In 14 years of Macs with pro video I've never had a problem I couldn't find a answer for. Basically, Open Soundtrack Pro, import a file for editing, add an effect (telephone EQ), file plays and sound fine, flatten and Save file > open in QT or FCP and effect is missing.
Tried saving as AIFF and WAV - no difference, save as QT.mov gives an empty file, the Export option from STP (Audio file function) is also greyed out. Reverted to QT 7.3 with Pacifist - no difference.
Effects do work and export using the Multitrack function!
    Any ideas to try?
    Quad G5 2.5, Leopard 10.5.2, QT 7.4.1, STPro 2.0.2

    Bringing this back up....
    Clean system re-install, FCS2 re-install, 10.5.3 update, STP 2.0.2.
Nothing else on system, just OSX and FCS - STILL NOT SAVING ANY EFFECTS - EQ or Sound Designer etc.
I can't be the only person with this......or am I?

Is the effect you are trying to save a Fireworks live effect,
    or is it
produced by a third party plugin?

  • Saving effects that I create

I've keyframed a motion effect on a clip in my timeline, using the Motion Tab on the Viewer window in FCP HD.
However, now I just want to change the clip, but leave all the keyframes, leave the effect intact.
How do I insert a different clip, without erasing the effect?
In Avid, you can drag effect templates to your bin, in other words, save the effect you created. How do you do that in FCP?
    thank you

or the other way around ... copy the clip you want to put in and then Paste Attributes (Opt-V) on the clip in the timeline and choose "Content"
of course, if its an effect you want to use over and over again then
in FCP, to create a template effect, use Effects > Make Favourite Motion
this will save the effect parameters into your Effects > Favourites bin, where you can name it appropriately. you can then apply the effect from the Effects > Favourites menu or bin

    Regards,
Prasad.Nothing to do with time in terms of Standby databases.
Its applicable only in RAC environment, where you should have same time acceptable < 30 seconds around.
One of my earlier post, i given example, pasting again
    Lets example:-
Primary database is in Far North - Canada
Standby Database is in Bangalore - India
So here time zones are completely different, at least 12 hours difference. So there is no need to be same time in DR environment.

  • Saving Effects/Filters/Keyframing Settings?

Hi, I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.
Is there a way to save settings to effects, filters, or keyframing? For example, if I chroma key a green screen or a prop out, and change the settings in order to do that, can I save that exact setting so I can simply apply it again for another clip using the same shot/camera angle in a future project?
Or if I have a credits keyframed to move, blur and dissolve away, is there a way to save that setting so I can apply it to all the credits, including to other episodes of the series I edit in the future?
Adding a particular gaussian blur as a style without having to change the amount of blur every time I try to use it?
I'm sorry for using several examples, but I want to make sure you know what I'm talking about, I don't think I'm doing a good job of explaining it. I hope you understand.
Thanks for your time and I hope to hear back soon.
    Jorge

Okay, thanks for the tips. Took me a bit to understand about dragging them, but I figured it out.
However, how to do I save them to my favorites? And when I do (I'm sorry if this is obvious), where do my favorite show up? Would it create a Favorite section in the Effects dropdown or something?
    Thanks again,

  • Clip effects drag and drop?

Hello folks. I'm evaluating a switch from Pro Tools to Audition on behalf of a production company. What I'm missing in Audition so far is the ability to quickly copy effetcs settings between clips/regions. For instance when a talking head reaperars now and then, I want to be able to use the same EQ setting that I made earlier. In Pro Tools you would typicly automate the EQ for each track and use the Write to all enabled parameters function, but in Audition clip effects seems to be the way to go. Other sound editors like Soundtrack and even video editors like FCP and Avid  let me drag the effect icon from one clip to another to apply the same effect whit the same  settings. And even save the settings by dragging the icon to a bin. I haven't found out how to do this in Audition, part from saving presets and loading them after having chosen the same effect onto the new clip, which if course is way to dodgy.
Any quick reply would be appreciated.
    Thanks

No it's not. Normally if you want to apply the same effect to a load of separate clips, you'd put them all on one track and apply the effects to that; it's a lot less processor-hungry doing it this way, as you only have to run one instance of the effect. Dragging the clips accurately is easy, and doing it like this means that you can see what's happening much more easily than if you have the clips all over the place (although it's a PITA not having grouping, admittedly). It all works fine when you're used to it - but it doesn't work the same way as PT does; if your production company wants to change, then they'll have to get used to a new way of working, I'm afraid.
And I can't honestly say that Audition is ideal for doing this sort of stuff in its present release. Indeed, it may take a couple more versions before it gets to the sort of level that many people think it should be at. But I'm reasonably confident that it will. So my take on this at present is that it's fine to evaluate the present release - but only really in terms of its overall usability and way of doing things. It's not really fair to evaluate it in terms of overall features, because they're not all there yet.
Oh, and there isn't anything dodgy about saving effects presets and reusing them - that's what the facility is there for, and it works fine. The nice thing about it is that you can apply several effects to a clip, and save the whole lot as one preset - rather better than having to save each preset's settings individually.

  • Do we have presets for audio effects?

Hello to all! I would like to know whether we have the option of saving effects which we add to voiceovers as 'presets' so that when we do fresh voiceovers we need to only 'paste' these presets.
At present I am doing this to manage the situation: I have created a tiny 'template project' in which I have included a voiceover that has the necessary audio effects. There is a slight 'inconvenience' associated with this method and would like to know whether one can have a better way to get our job done with a single click!
Wish all of you a great day!
    Dr. Somanna

    Hello Fox, Greetings!
I had previously indeed made a compound clip of the 'edited voiceover clip', but I was not aware that this compound clip in the event browser would not be having the 'copy/paste attributes. In my earlier post I had mentioned this:
I found that the source clip in the event browser does not add the audio effects which are introduced in the timeline audio clip...
Your mentioning of double clicking the compound clip to have it on the timeline and then copy/pasting the audio effects has been a 'revelation' to me. It is working. Moreover, I have placed this compound clip in an 'template event' that I already have and hence I would find it an easy thing to add effects to future voiceovers. Fortunately my need for adding audio effects are very simple and I guess that it will remain so in future too! I would not be needing multiple and complex 'audio-effects presets!
    Thanks.
Regards and have a great day.

  • Keep getting message pop up "Error reading/writing file  "com.apple.logic.pro.cs": Logical end-of-file reached during read operation," and "The Preferences are not loaded completely. Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?" Using Logic pro 8. ???

Logic froze while I was working on something so I forced quit.  Now every time I open LOGIC a message pops up that says:
    "Error reading/writing file
    “com.apple.logic.pro.cs”:
Logical end-of-file reached during read operation."
The only button option is cancel so I press it and another message appears that says:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
Do not save them, as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
Then when i close logic a box appears saying:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
    Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?"
There are 3 button options to press; ok, cancel or dont save.
I press "don’t save" cuz I don't want to ruin anything.
I found a discussion located here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9564253#9564253 that says if I delete the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" it will resolve the problem.  If I do this will I loose or mess anything up at all, automation, saved channel strips customizations, saved effects, synth, or ultrabeat customizations etc? Or especially will I loose any work I've done?  I have hundreds pieces of music files I've created.  I'm scared to mess anything up with all the hours and months of work I've done.  Is there anyway to fix this without loosing anything?  I'm using Logic Pro 8.
    Thank you

You can safely delete this file - its the preference file for control surface settings - you haven't said whether you're actually using a control surface or not, if so, you will have to set it up again. A new file will be created when you fire Logic up again, but of course it will contain default settings. If you have a complicated control surface setup, remember to keep a backup copy somewhere in case any future problems arise.
Other than that, you really have nothing to be scared about - hopefully your problem is as simple as that and there isn't an underlying problem (a corrupt hard drive, for example). You seem concerned about losing work, so I guess you want to think about backing that up on a regular basis too. If you're saving your projects to your system drive, do get an external one for this. And also check that you have plent of free space on your system drive - you need to keep about a quarter or third of it free for your OS and programs to run properly (some temporarily stored files can be quite large).

  • GarageBand '11 (6.0.5) How to reinstall MagicGB & Apple Loop Package?

    Alright,
Up until the newest update to OSX Mavericks (10.9) I was able to use Magic Garageband & Apple Loops Library with the free added content that it prompted me the first time I used it, which was about 1.5 gigs of content it downloaded directly from Apple. Now since the clean install of the new OS on both my late 2012 Mac Book Pro and late 2012 Mac Mini (both are drive free versions so they came with no discs), I no longer have either of these features in GarageBand '11 (6.0.5).
Does anyone know how to reinstall/download them?
Garage band used to download them automatically the first time I started up the software but now Magic Garageband has nothing in it and I get a popup anytime I open a new project saying "Please reinstall the Apple Loop Package".
Is anyone else having this isssue?
How would I go about fixing it?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Michael Jos Moore
    @mooremichaelcom

The saved effects are stored in your User Library - you need to uninstall it.
Quit GarageBand, if it is running.
Open your User Library and open the folder
    ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/Compressor/
Remove the setting you just created and saved from the "Compressor" folder.
Restart your Computer. (Don't skip this step - it is necessary in Mavericks).
Your User library is hidden by default since MacOS X 10.7.  Lion.
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house)  in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
    Enable "Show Library Folder".

  • Is it okay to closed the lid after using Macbook Pro even the it is hot?

Hi. I'm using MBP early 2011 I5 and I noticed the temperature getting high and palm rest is getting hot/warm when I'm playing games. Is this normal? temperature around 80 degree celsius accoringding to istat.
Also, after using the MBP, ofcourse the palm rest is hot/warm. Is it okay to close the lid after using it?
    Thanks.

My practice has been to let the MBP cool a few minutes before closing the lid, so it's trapping less heat. I doubt this has much saving effect on the logic board components, but my MBP is old enough to have a glossyplastic display cover. It would look ugly if it started to warp.

  • How to add DROP SHADOW

I posted earlier but figured I'd give it another shot due to the flood of other posts.  Has anyone figured out how to add a drop shadow (preferably to video clip with an alpha channel, but other applications such as psd files, etc. would good to know for as well).  I mean, if iWeb can have drop shadows, SURELY Final Cut Pro X does...right?

The solution is do do it in Motion. Only took me a minute to figure it out.
Basically, you create a "Final Cut Effect" in the project browser of Motion, and take a clip (any clip will work, it seems), scale it down to 50% or whatever, add the drop shadow (easy to find), and hit Save.
Motion will tell you it's "publishing" it, and ask you for a category. I created one with my name.
Go back to FCPX, my new category appears instantly in the Effects browser, and there's my shadow effect in that category. Drag your newly created effect to the clip you want to effect, and there you go.
The nice thing is, having your own saved effects makes it easy to be consistent when you want to apply that effect to several things.

  • How to reduce the video traffic for the recipient

I want to reduce Skype video traffic for myself and the other end.I am using Mac and Network Link Conditioner to limit the bandwidth to ~300kbps. It effectively reduce the Skype traffic to under 30KB per second. I am thinking if it will have the same positive effect on the other end, although that end is on a xMbps internet.

Hi techfreak, I am wondering if my bandwidth limitation will have traffic saving effect on the other end. Let's say, a video call without me applying bandwidth limit on my computer generated 30M data received/30M data sent. After I applied the bandwidth limit, the same call on my computer reduced to 10M data received/10M data sent. Will the other end see similar reduction?

  • Applying filters to multiclips

    Hello,
I am trying to apply a filter to a lot of footage, including multi-cam footage. It seems that whenever I apply a filter to a multiclip, it dissapears if I switch angles and back again... What is the best way to apply a global filter to a clip, so that the filter is applied not only in the master clip, but also every time it appears in a sequence, and everytime it appears as a multi-clip?

I'm not sure what you mean by button list... could
    you clarify?
Tools > Button List > multiclip. Or option + j
also, is there a way to color correct a master clip
and have that correction applied to whenever that
clip appears in a sequence? If it appears in 15 or 20
sequnces this would be a lot easier than copying and
pasting the filter whenever the clip appears.
I've found the easiest way to do this is the do a Find in the timeline. If you have named your clip properly you can Find All of a particular clip. The find command will select all and you can drag a saved effect to them all at once.
