Saving eps files always saves 2 copies?

Any idea why when I save as an eps file that I get 2 copies of the exact same file? file names appear as: sample_file.eps and then sample_file01.eps in the same destination folder.
Any help would be appreciated as it is a pain to always have to go and delete that extra file. This happens whenever I start a new file or open a customers supplied art file I can't figure out why it is happening, never use to do this.

slickster,
You are probably saving the file with Artboards checked. You may try unchecking that option.

  • Weird CS4 error when saving eps files on a Mac: "...specified files already exist in the target location"

    Hi There,
    All 3 workstations in our studio are experiencing weird file behavior when re-saving eps files from Illustrator.
    Basically Illustrator creates a new file in addition to the original and adds a "-01.eps" onto the file name. If you re-save your original, Illustrator brings up a dialogue box that states:
    Some of the specified files already exist in the target location. The files marked below will be replaced:
    filename.eps
    filename-01.eps
    We've been deleting the "-01.eps" files each time but it's becoming tedious. The behaviour occurs when re-saving an eps file to a server or the desktop.
    All machines are new Quad-core MacPros running:
    - Leopard 10.5.8
    - Illustrator CS4 14.0.0
    We've checked for Illustrator updates from within Illustrator but we seem to be running the latest version.
    Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
    Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks for the reply.
    The error occurs when we save the document but if we choose save as, "Use Artboards" seems to be unchecked so not sure if this issue is related or not. Will re-save the document using save as then see if the issue persists.
    Why do we still use eps?
    Basically because we've found it to be much more compatible. Our entire logo library is in eps format (18 years worth) partly because it was previously the only format to use and partly because it allows account managers to send logos to clients, printers, TV stations etc and not involve the studio (saving out an eps version).
    Although "Create PDF compatible file" is a good idea, we've encountered costly issues with colours and images - especially if the recipient is using old CS software, non-Adobe software or is using some kind of hardware RIP. We now just go with what we know works.
    But I do find saving eps versions of everything to be a bit painful. In fact, I've always found Illustrator in general to be a bit painful when compared with Photoshop or AfterEffects. Illustrator seems like it's been developed by a different company some times!
    Cheers, and thanks for the help.

  • EPS files wont save? Ai files, no problem!

    I am using CS6 and have had this problem for while. The strange thing is it is now happening on TWO computers? Different specs, but my computer is:
    Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac13,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          3.4 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
      L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          8 MB
      Memory:          16 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          IM131.010A.B05
    so it is not a spec issue.
    I have tried saving basic EPS files with NO content at all to the desktop (I am not working to/from server). They work fine. But if I add 3, 4, 5 basic outline rectangle shapes, it struggles to save the EPS. It spins for about 10 seconds and then comes good. If I add objects to the files, it takes longer.
    BUT!!! On very rare occasions it will save basic files quickly. WHY OH WHY WOULD IT DO THAT!!!
    I have: updated all software and IOS is upto date. I have had a clean install of the OS, and recently unistalled one version of Illustrator CS6 and installed another version (original version was 16.7 the new version is 16).
    I have searched forums and come up blanks. The other CS6 apps are fine. Speedy and top draw. No problems.
    Can anyone help? I am really struggling with this and it is affecting my work load.
    Please note, I have taken the other computer back to the Apple dealer, they have checked it and said there is no problem? Run all the software ETC... and nothing is showing up as a culprit. I keep thinking it is software rather than computer because EVERYTHING else is perfect.

    Do you face the same problem, when you print those file to "Adobe Postscript File" printer?
    Please try deleting all the printers in your system, try save EPS, install back all the printers and try once again saving EPS.

  • Saving EPS Files in CS4 without the artboard

    I am having an issue placing eps files using CS4.
    If you save an EPS file in Illustrator CS4, the resulting file retains the entire artboard... So when you place the file in Photoshop, the graphic is too small.  If I open this eps and simply resave it as a Illustrator CS3 EPS, it places correctly... Meaning the artboard in not included so the graphic is as large as the photoshop canvas.
    There has to be a reason for this change and some way to force CS4 to save the eps files like it does for CS3, but I can't find where... Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

    I save as dialog uncheck use art boards option and you get this in photoshop
    from this in illustrator

    I am having an unfortunate unique issue here. For whatever reason, Logic X has corrupted/infected several session files within my project. I have not been able to open my main or many backup session files within a project. Every time I open, crash and then this error bellow. I have tried every trick in the book. Crashes when i try to import the session in a new session, even tried tricking an older file that works with the new session files backup's inserted. Crashes + infects the working session file. This has been very frustrating. I don't feel I did anything to make the file corrupt. Lost a lot of time here and was wondering if anyone knows a solution.. Can one of you Apple people help me recover this file somehow? It's for a bigger client of mine so I would like to get the progress back. There seems to be no way of getting in so far

  • Position of eps-files in anchored frame

    Hello, I'm sorry but the subject was too large to put it in the subject-field.
    Subject:
    position of eps-files (Mac Os 9, Illustrator 9.0, preview tiff black/white)
    is not correct after saving eps-files (preview macintosh black/white)
    I want to upgrade from Apple Mac 9.0 to PC. All my Framemaker-files (6.0)
    must be translated to Framemaker 8.0 (PC-version).
    When I open the old Framemaker files, there is only a problem with the
    graphics (read: the preview of the graphics in Framemaker 8.0). The result
    is: grey boxes in the anchored frames. I thought when I save the old
    eps-files (Illustrator 9 for Mac, preview Macintosh Black+white) to
    eps-files with TIFF preview, that the problem will be solved. When I open
    the framemaker-files on PC, then there are a few graphics correct
    (Framemaker displays all the graphics correct on pc). But, there are a lot
    of graphics in anchored frames who lost their right coordinates in the
    anchored frame (example: the x-position of a graphic is -25 cm en the
    y-position of a graphic is 7.9 cm). Result: I cannot see a graphic in the
    anchored frame because the coordinates were changed and because their are
    outside the frame (their are in the frame, but the graphic is outside the
    border of the anchored frame).
    When I use the old eps-files then the position is correct, but there is no
    preview available of the graphic in Framemaker 8 (in Framemaker 6.0 for
    Mac, there is a preview of the graphic).
    Are there people who has this problem too in the past? Who can give me
    suggestions to solve this problem or give me other tips to solve this
    problem.

    Hi Jesse
    I'm afraid we probably can't help much. I asked our guy and he said:
    I thought that issue had more to do with upgrading Adobe Illustrator. When you save an EPS it includes a BoundingBox comment that defines the area of the page that the figure occupies in the artwork:
    %%BoundingBox: LLx LLy URx URy
    LLx and LLy are the coordinates of the lower left corner of the figure. URx and URy are the coordinates of the upper right corner of the figure.
    When FrameMaker imports an EPS it reads the BoundingBox comment to get the size and position of the figure on the page, and therefore to compute the translation and scaling required in the PostScript output to put the figure where you want it.
    The impression I got was that when you updated the EPS figure FrameMaker didn't always refresh the BoundingBox info.
    The later version of Illustrator seemed to save files with a different BoundingBox. As a result there was a mis-match between the actual BoundingBox and what FrameMaker recorded.
    The solution for us was to simply re-import the figure. I never wrote a script to solve that problem.

  • Can you remove XMP data from .eps files in Illustrator-CS5.5?

    Background:
    I'm using font software called Typetool 3 and Illustrator CS5.5.
    I am using these on Windows 7, 64 bit.
    This is entry level font software released by Fontlab.
    This software accepts artwork through the .eps file format in both theory and practice.
    However: it refuses illustrator CS5.5 .eps files.
    When I looked at this I came up with two highly interesting things: First- CS5.5 illustrator files are roughly 13 times the size of CS5 files, of this type (a simple font glyph-comparing a 29-30 kbfile to a 420-450 kb file in cs5 and cs5.5 respectively).
    Thing two came from looking at what that data was (by opening it in a text editor). It appears that some of the data XMP data, illustrators data for tracking things like who created the file, copyright, and other. In document info many of these fields were blank. I'm sure this isn't the only issue because my exported xmp data is 64 kb large, but it does account for a chunk of the file.
    The main question being: Can this xmp data; which for my purposes is redundant, because I have to put copyright and other data in the font, be removed or not included at the point of document creation?
    The technical question being:Can the file be saved in a manner which will allow it to be exported from adobe CS5.5 and imported into Typetool 3?
    Things I've tried:
    In saving .eps file: removing document headers, previews, color data, saving as different versions of the language. Basically saving it without all settings.
    In saving .ai file: saving without any settings checked (without compression, pdf editting, ect.) and saving it to a different level of illustrator.
    I do not know enough about postscript programming to navigate the file or remove the offending data. Nor do I have time to do this over multiple glyphs.
    As a matter of opinion I do not like that my software is including potentially identifying information (which is one of the intents of XMP data, to provide identification) without notifying the creator, let alone allowing me to keep it from doing that. I would not mind or bother-except for the fact its messed up an established workflow. If someone editted this data without my knowledge, say with a virus or heaven forbid manually, it would be also be bothersome. Having a check that identifies that I am sending this data out would give me something to know if this situation was in fact happening. Additionally for a situation like mine-communication between programs in a closed environment where no other users are involved, its unnecessary and wasteful... like putting gold rims on what is intended to be an oxcart.
    I'm planning on going to Fontlab for later this week, as it is as much thier issue as it is Adobe's. From what I know XMP is both a useful and popular technology- having a workaround for this situation seems like it would be a good idea. If necessary I can attach some working files for comparision.

    I would save it as EPS (version Illustrator 3). This should be compatible to almost any  software that takes EPS.

  • Image Processor Pro and Picture Processor load eps files without rasterizing them

    Hi. My name is Lucas. Im from Argentina, now living in Brazil. I have the problem that is in the title. Im new doing this stuff but reading a lot i discovered that both scripts open eps files and because they dont get reasterized, then saved files looks preety bad.
    I know that there are some parameters to open eps, ex:
    var epsOpenOptions = new EPSOpenOptions();
       epsOpenOptions.antiAlias = true;
       epsOpenOptions.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
       epsOpenOptions.resolution = 72;
       epsOpenOptions.constrainProportions = true;
    I have to say that looking for a solution a found a script and modified to suit partially my needs. I said partially because i need the script to look folders and save output files with same structure. Here is the script that manage one folder at a time:
    #target photoshop
    // Asks user for input folder
    var inputFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select a folder to process");
    // Asks user for output folder
    var OutputFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select a folder to save your Tiffs");
    if ( inputFolder != null && OutputFolder  != null ) {
       // Makes list of all files located in that folder
       var fileList = inputFolder.getFiles( "*.eps" );
       // Create a EPS option object [height & width are doc size]
       var epsOpenOptions = new EPSOpenOptions();
       epsOpenOptions.antiAlias = true;
       epsOpenOptions.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
       epsOpenOptions.resolution = 72;
       epsOpenOptions.constrainProportions = true;
       // Open each file in turn
       for (var i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++) {
          // open the file
          app.open( fileList[i], epsOpenOptions );
          var baseName = activeDocument.name.slice( 0,-4 );
          // put your code to 'save as' the file here
          var saveFile = new File ( OutputFolder + "/" + baseName + ".jpg" );
       SaveForWeb(saveFile,60); // set quality to suit
    function SaveForWeb(saveFile,jpegQuality) {
      var sfwOptions = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb();
      sfwOptions.format = SaveDocumentType.JPEG;
      sfwOptions.includeProfile = false;
      sfwOptions.interlaced = 0;
      sfwOptions.optimized = true;
      sfwOptions.quality = jpegQuality;
    activeDocument.exportDocument(saveFile, ExportType.SAVEFORWEB, sfwOptions);
    activeDocument.close( SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES );
    So, if you know some way modify image processor pro or picture processor i will be very pleased.
    Because i will only use the script to manage eps files and save them as jpg (save for web) i dont need an special button to activate that option. Keep it simple. Thanx!!

    You can tweak ImageProcessorPro.jsx by make the following edit.
    Search for code that looks like this:
    ImageProcessor.prototype.openDocument = function(file) {
      var self = this;
      var settings = self.settings;
      var mode = DialogModes.NO;
      var ext = file.strf("%e").toLowerCase();
      var isRaw = ImageProcessor.CAMERA_RAW_FILES.contains(ext);
      if (isRaw) {
    and insert this code right after it:
      if (ext == "eps") {
        var epsOpenOptions = new EPSOpenOptions();
        epsOpenOptions.antiAlias = true;
        epsOpenOptions.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
        epsOpenOptions.resolution = 72;
        epsOpenOptions.constrainProportions = true;
        try {
          var doc = app.open(file, epsOpenOptions);
        } catch (e) {
          Error.runtimeError(9002, ZStrings.UnableToOpenErr);
        return doc;
    I haven't tested this at all but it looks good from here.

  • How to create a eps file from illustrator?

    I am new to illustrator and new to creating logos for print, I usually only do it for the web.  I am creating a logo for my team so that it can be printed onto a jacket.  I created an all white logo because the jacket is black.  I was asked to send an eps file.  I created the logo in illustrator and saved it as an eps file and as a pdf file thinking the printer could use the pdf for viewing.  When I open the pdf file, the only thing that's there is a soccer ball, my text and a few other things are missing.  When I open the saved eps file, the same thing, I have to go to select all to see all my other stuff in the eps file.  How do I save my file as eps and know that it's attaching everything I have within the illustrator file and how can I view the logo as a pdf?  Any help you can give would be greatly appeciated, thanks so much!

    How did you similate the black color?
    Since Illustrator does not have a background, you must create one with the rectangle tool, drag out a rectangle the size of the document and then move it to the back. That rectangle can then be filled with black.
    Also look in your layers panel and see what you have for objects. You can select them there and move them up or down to bring them forward or backward on the document. It can also make it easier to select when the object is below others.

  • Unable to import/open EPS file in Elements 12

    I have installed the trial version of Elements 12 as we are looking at purchase for a client who needs a simple and inexpensive program to look at EPS files and save them as JPGs. Elements 12 says that an EPS file can be 'imported' as a supported file type, however when I click on File -> Import, it comes up with WIA Support, then when I click on that and select the EPS file, it says "No WIA compatible devices were detected. Check that your device is plugged in to the computer and the power is turned on".
    I have searched the internet and can't find anything to help, and the help files just direct to the forums. I have seen an article on how to import into Elements 11, but the options are not available in 12 (probably due to the fact that 12 is supposed to natively import the format). As I understand the trial is a fully-functioning package with no options turned off until purchase.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    You can get the Open as dialog in pse 12 on windows with this action
    Open As.atn
    https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=d7X1rXdE11yH0YHzrj7wog
    Unzip the download and load the action into the actions panel (Window>Actions) in the pse 12 editor in the Expert mode
    and that should give the Open as dialog and then click on your eps and choose Tiff from the dropdown menu.
    Just be aware that this workaround, as far as i know, only opens an eps file that has a tiff preview saved with it
    and then it only opens the tiff preview and not the full resolution eps.

  • Error message:  "document may contain binary EPS file which can cause print failure"

    Can anyone help me with this error message?  I have an .indd file that contains about 20 logos and various images.  I was under the impression that using eps / ai / and psd file formats for printing was best in InDesign.  (It is a 25 page document).  When I try to print the document i get the error message that says:
    "This document may contain binary EPS files which can caise the print job to fail.  If the printer produces output then the binary datat did not interfere with printing. Do you want to print this document?"
    Well - my document did not print for me .. so hwo can I fix this?
    Thank you,
    Cmol

    There are many ways to fix this.
    Re-saving EPS files as AI is fine.
    Re-saving EPS files as PSD is a bad plan -- EPS files are vector graphics, and PSD typically aren't. Also, AI files are PDF files that are generally readable by many applications. PSD files, not so much, (though InDesign certainly can).
    (You could also re-save as an EPS file without 8-bit/binary data.)
    What does the error message mean? Well, EPS files are a type of PostScript file, and PostScript has many ways to store image data. It can be stored as 8-bit data, which is the most space-efficient. It can also be stored as base64 ascii, i.e. just letters and numbers and soforth, which takes up more space (I want to say 130% more?).
    Depending on exactly how your computer is connected to your printer, those 8-bit characters can cause problems and may not make it all the way to the printer. If that happens, then you get this problem. The warning message is there to let you know that if you have a non-8-bit-clean printing path, then you may have a problem.

  • Converting Multiple .EPS files into .PDF

    Dear Forum:  We have tried converting multiple .eps files into PDF using article 325977. This article in Adobe help is really designed to convert .ai files into either .eps or.pdf, our situation is to convert multiple .eps files into PDF. Everytime we run the macro, it simply takes the eps file and saves it as another eps file and does not convert. We have a "Save As" step that we have in the macro that is set to "Save As" PDF, but it still does not work. What are we doing wrong?

    Hi mephisto11757,
    You can convert the following file types to PDF with the Adobe CreatePDF service:

  • Acrobat always saves eps Files with only 150ppi

    Hello Community,
    i have a problem with Acrobat and EPS files. Ive searched the whole forum and tried alot but cant figure out how to get it to work. So the problem is, that i have PDF files that i want to save as EPS files. The PDF-Files are saved as 300ppi (already checked it with preflight). But when i save it as an EPS-File and check it again its all set to 150ppi (149,xx). I set everything to "high quality", checked/unchecked "use maximum JPEG2000 resolution" and so on, but always with the same results - 150ppi. Maybe someone knows what i'm doing wrong?
    Thanks a lot and best regards
    Now something strange happened. I changed some presettings in acrobat that say "convert to PDF - postscript/EPS" and changed it from "standard" to "high quality print". Now all my EPS files, even the one shown as 150ppi that i created before, now is shown as 299ppi in the menu preflight -> all grey pictures (they are grey). How can this be? Maybe i dont get something right?

    PDF Optimizer works on a individual documents. I'm looking for a way to make the compatible version a default for combining images. Specifically when using the Combine files in the right mouse context menu.
    Thanks

  • Previews not automatically saving in EPS files

    Hi
    Just got Illustrator CS5 yesterday and immediately noticed that when saving a new EPS file it doesn't automatically include a preview, you have to choose it. In all past versions i have used this defaulted to 8-bit tiff with transparency.
    This would be fine if you did it once and it remembered this for next time but it doesn't. So every time I save an EPS file i have to make this choice. I know it isn't much but if I forget to do it I have to go back and resave the file which is annoying.
    Is there a way of making this choice permanent?
    thanks
    David

    Hi, thanks for replying.
    You aren't the first person to say this, AI files use the whole artboard as the image size so its like replacing one issue with another.
    Its a completely random problem, it happens when creating a whole new EPS file and when saving out a new version of an existing EPS that already has the 8 bit tiff preview attached. Whats worse is, it doesn't always happen, I can't say that the next time I save a file so I can't replicate the problem myself.
    its definitely NOT a problem with my system either, the same thing happens with my 2 colleagues macs in here.
    As much as I'd like to I don't want to switch to indesign, I've tried a few times and it just doesn't sit right with me, it lets you get away with things that in 15 years I would never do because it would cause issues at the print stage, it makes me uncomfortable when I get files in from other agencies and they're just a mess with all random formats just forced into a document, its lazy.
    Anyway, back to topic Adobe's TS reply is frankly laughable and unacceptable, I was hoping I'd get some support form them considering how much we pay for the software in the first place.
    thanks again
    David

  • Problems saving AI file to an EPS

    I am try to save an Illustrator file as an EPS, and I keep getting the message: NOT ENOUGH MEMORY OR IMAGE IS TOO COMPLEX, CHANGING THE DOCUMENT WINDOW MAY HELP. I am using CS6. I have done this over and over for years. Now as of two days ago I keep getting this message and it's starting to affect the business flow because I can not come up with a solution. I have looked around online for two days without any luck. Can someone help me please?
    Dan

    I am using a PC with Windows 7. What I'm doing exactly is taking a high res. image in Photoshop CS6. Flattening the image, creating channels for my specific colors and then saving the file as a DCS 2.0 file. After that, I'm placing that EPS file into a predetermined art board size in illustrator. Once I have it in place I am then saving that illustrator file as an EPS to run it thru a RIP program. It sounds a little weird all the jumping around but it is necessary for what I have to do. And it has always worked just fine until two days ago. When you say I don't have enough scratch disk space, are you referring to Photoshop? I can not find an option in Illustrator to adjust? Thank you very much for all or any help with this.
    Dan
