Saving eps format

I have created a little application, user can draw things
typing and creating simple logos. So, is there any way to save the
created logo as eps format from the application.

It might be doable, but I'd say more theoretically than
practically:
The first problem is saving soemthing from flash, but it can
be done siince Flash 8 with the file.reference class and some
serverside action.
The second would be ti translate your graphic into eps. That
should be possible but it sounds very comlicated to me, but
probably a solution to generate a pdf (unprotected) would be easier
to come by, as there are several php tools out there that can
generate pdfs.
Though job in any case.

I can't remember how to save an photoshop eps. with a transparant backgound so can place into an older version of Quark. Every setting I use still gives me a white background.

You won't remember because it can't. Quark didn't acknowledge the existence of transparency until Q7. The clipping path method, as mentioned by other people here, is the only way round it. I know because I had to work with it for several years
Depending on exactly what your job is, there is a possible workaround.
eg. if you had an image on a transparent background in Photoshop, which you want to put over another background image, make the whole composite in Photoshop and then place that in Quark 6.
It reduces flexibility, but it works

When I saved an Illustrator CS6 file to EPS format, I got "could not complete the requested operation. unknown error."

Google it and find some temp fix. run the illustrator by using "Run as admin" mode and fix the problem, but when use run as, can't see all the original user's mapping drives.
So still need it fixed.

It is win 7 64 bit system and same error on Illustrator x86 and x64.

Don't use EPS anymore. It has been replaced by PDF or AI with PDF compatibility. If you use PDF use either a PDF/X-4 or a PDF without flattening transparency, so you will be able to use layers in other applications.
If you need to use a file in an older version you should save it as AI file in the version you want to open it. But it can happen, when you use some effects it can cause a flattening or rasterizing of a file or parts of it. So keep ALWAYS the file in the version you have created it.

Not Enough Memory when saving to .eps format

In AI-CS4 OS X 10.4.11 Dual 2.7 Power PC G5 4GB DDR SDRAM
When I try to save my .ai file to .eps format it get the message
"Can't save the illustration. Not enough memory was available or an object was too complex. Reducing the size of this document window"
If I convert the text to outlines there is no problem.
Also if I save the .a1 as a CS3 version then open it in AI-CS3 I can save it as an .eps file.
Any insight on how to fix this issue would be appreciated.

It doesn't have anything to do with available memory/harddisk space/RAM. It is just an error message that really doesn't tell what actually IS the problem, only that there is some kind of problem.

Weird CS4 error when saving eps files on a Mac: "...specified files already exist in the target location"

All 3 workstations in our studio are experiencing weird file behavior when re-saving eps files from Illustrator.
Basically Illustrator creates a new file in addition to the original and adds a "-01.eps" onto the file name. If you re-save your original, Illustrator brings up a dialogue box that states:
Some of the specified files already exist in the target location. The files marked below will be replaced:
filename.eps
filename-01.eps
We've been deleting the "-01.eps" files each time but it's becoming tedious. The behaviour occurs when re-saving an eps file to a server or the desktop.
All machines are new Quad-core MacPros running:
- Leopard 10.5.8
- Illustrator CS4 14.0.0
We've checked for Illustrator updates from within Illustrator but we seem to be running the latest version.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.
The error occurs when we save the document but if we choose save as, "Use Artboards" seems to be unchecked so not sure if this issue is related or not. Will re-save the document using save as then see if the issue persists.
Why do we still use eps?
Basically because we've found it to be much more compatible. Our entire logo library is in eps format (18 years worth) partly because it was previously the only format to use and partly because it allows account managers to send logos to clients, printers, TV stations etc and not involve the studio (saving out an eps version).
Although "Create PDF compatible file" is a good idea, we've encountered costly issues with colours and images - especially if the recipient is using old CS software, non-Adobe software or is using some kind of hardware RIP. We now just go with what we know works.
But I do find saving eps versions of everything to be a bit painful. In fact, I've always found Illustrator in general to be a bit painful when compared with Photoshop or AfterEffects. Illustrator seems like it's been developed by a different company some times!

Hi,
When you are executing the report thorough portal by default it wil not come in excel format,
if the report is on work book based then you that work book link you can assign to the i viwe and same thing you can get in portal , but not in excel format.
but the same report if you want in excel or PDF format you can impott'
in portal ther is a tab import to excel and print version( it gives in the form of pDF)

How do i open EPS file with "rasterize generic EPS format" options in photoshop CS?

Hi please can someone help!?
I'm using Photoshop CS on mac- when i open EPS format files i usually get the "rasterize generic EPS format" option so that i can select the size i want the file to be etc without losing quality. However on one file i've opened before i don't seem to be getting that option at all, if i open the EPs file it just goes to a standard size automatically and doesn't give me the chance to change the size. This is the same file that i have used since being sent the file, i've not resaved it. It used to give me the rasterize generic EPS format option but it no longer works. Any ideas how i can make those options appear when opening or how i can rasterize/resize it once open without losing quality?
Just to be clear, i still get the rasterize generic EPS format option when opening other EPS files but it seems not with this one particular file.

Encapsulated PostScript-files can contain either vector-content (in which case one gets prompted when opening with Photoshop), pixel-content (in which case Photoshop opens straight away) or a mixture (same as the first case).
When a file has been rasterized that’s that, You may want to go back to the original file if You can locate it.

Changing the color of an image in EPS format using Illustrator

How do I change the color of an image in EPS format using Illustrator? Once I do this how do I change the format of the image from EPS to something I can select onto a website like JPG, JPEG or PNG? I plan to print the image onto a T-shirt.

Why reports uses the .eps format when emailing a report?

If you select to send a report by email, it automatically
chooses the .eps format to send the report as an attachment.
I know it stands for "encapsulated post script" (I think...),
but is there a way to send in PDF format for example?
Till now, the user has to generate the report in PDF format
and then, manually, create an email and attach such file.
And what program opens such type of file (eps)?

The .eps format is a postscript format type used to send directly to the printer. I really don't know why this format is good but ...
A way to send an e-mail attachment in HTML, PDF or RTF format, is setting the parameters DESTYPE and DESFORMAT, but this way enforces you to create another way to trigger the e-mail cause the button e-mail in Oracle Reports uses .eps by default.
I suggest you to create a parameter form with the format option and trigger the reports by RUN_PRODUCT built-in. If you don't need to preview the report, set the properties in the parameter form and trigger the report normally.
DESTYPE=MAIL
DESFORMAT=PDF or DESFORMAT=HTML or DESFORMAT=RTF

I am grappling with the .eps format issue

I have thousands of .eps files, from years past, linked to hundreds of layout files. These were created in either Illustrator or Photoshop, but not with OSX all of these files must be associated with one or the other application. This means that if I choose Photoshop I must change each Illustrator .eps file back to open in Illustrator manually in the Get Info box. This is terribly inconvenient, and I am wondering if anyone has a better solution.
BTW I no longer make .eps links for my layouts, I use .ai or .psd. But this does not solve my problem with older files. I am hoping some other poor soul has found a better solution.

The only solution I can see is naming the extension differently to seperate the Illustrator and Photoshop versions of the .eps format.
Try .epsf and .epsi on a duplicates of a file, change it's Get Info to one program or the other and test it out.
If it works, then you can rename the extension of your eps to +f or +i to open into "F" for Photoshop and "I" for Illustrator.
worth a shot.
If not head to the Adobe forums, likely someone there has a hack.

How to save as .ai file to .eps format ??

Could anyone help me out on the below problem.
I need to write a script which will save a .ai file to .eps file format and store in to a fixed location. (Ex \\10.99.0.60\epsfile\)..
This action should happen on executing the script.
        Here we don’t need to enter the file name .It will be saved to the same file name. We just have to change the extension of the file and store it to a fixed location.        Ex: when the current file name is ‘test.ai’ the output file name will be ‘test.eps’
Please help me on the abhove issue.

Try this. Cut and paste into the AppleScript Script Editor Application. Save as whatever name in HD>Applications>Adobe Illustrator CS4>Presets>Scripts folder and restart.
This will open all files of the fileTypes in a folder and resave them as AICS4 files with compression and PDF compatibility. It will do a folder only not a Directory. You'll have to put in your own error handling for bad fonts. It makes all files CMYK and updates legacy text.

Saving .eps to .pdf in Classic with Tiger???

Hi,
I have a iMac and have just updated to Tiger OSX 10.4.2. I run Tiger as my general operating system however my version of Quark Xpress runs in the Classic Environment OS 9.
In the past I have saved a Quark Xpress file as an .eps and then gone into Acrobat Distiller and saved it as a .pdf. However since loading Tiger my distiller will not save my .eps file as a .pdf even though I still use both Quark and Distiller in Classic Environment??
Any assistance you could provide to rectify this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Saving a formatted file for S1000D

Hi,
I have had some success creating a document using the S1000D download with Framemaker 9. I can save it as a .sgm file and get it back. Problem is I want to format the contents in Framemaker. SGML doesn't include formatting so I tried to save it as a framemaker 9 file and it bombed out completely and closed Framemaker. This happens even if I start a new S1000D document and try to save it as a .fm file immediately without changing anything. Has anyone else had this problem or am I doing something stupid?
Another Question: Has Adobe released a more up to date version of S1000D than 2.2? They're on 4.0.1 now.

I was hoping this wouldn't open another can of worms. I am indeed using the beta application pack for FM 7.2.
The strangest thing is that I've just tried it again and the sgm file saved successfully as a fm9 file and came back into framemaker with the formatting entact. I tried this several times earlier and it bombed FM completely. It might be because I didn't have any images this time. There are XSLT warnings when opening the sgm file though.
This is all moot if the SGML will be invalid.
To answer your question, I am trying to output to SGML by starting a new document using the S1000D2.21descript structured application. I then "Save As", choosing an sgm extension from the "Save as Type" dropdown. I can then open this file, special paste text from Word and save. Later, I open the .sgm file, save as a .fm file and format it.
What are the options if I can't use the beta application?

Saving images Format

Hi,
I am opening JPEG images in Photoshop CS3 and after making changes saving them in JPEG format again. In the JPEG Options dialog box I save at the maxium level of 12 to preserve as much detail possible.
I then make further changes and save again using the same JPEG settings.
While the files are already JPEG format to start off with, I am not sure if I still could be lessening the image quality after repeated saves.
After opening the JPEG images in Photoshop maybe I should save them in PSD and save each time afterwards in PSD, and only save the final image as JPEG.
Any information would be appreciated.

You really probably want to open the JPEGs, make your changes, then save as .PSD - which is lossless.
Then you can make any number of further changes (open/edit/save of the PSD) without loss, and whenever you need to save a JPEG, do Save As a Copy and save the JPEG separately, keeping your edited master document as the PSD.
By the way, disk space has gotten really cheap, if you haven't looked lately.
