  • Weird CS4 error when saving eps files on a Mac: "...specified files already exist in the target location"

    Hi There,
All 3 workstations in our studio are experiencing weird file behavior when re-saving eps files from Illustrator.
Basically Illustrator creates a new file in addition to the original and adds a "-01.eps" onto the file name. If you re-save your original, Illustrator brings up a dialogue box that states:
Some of the specified files already exist in the target location. The files marked below will be replaced:
    filename.eps
    filename-01.eps
We've been deleting the "-01.eps" files each time but it's becoming tedious. The behaviour occurs when re-saving an eps file to a server or the desktop.
All machines are new Quad-core MacPros running:
    - Leopard 10.5.8
    - Illustrator CS4 14.0.0
We've checked for Illustrator updates from within Illustrator but we seem to be running the latest version.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks for the reply.
The error occurs when we save the document but if we choose save as, "Use Artboards" seems to be unchecked so not sure if this issue is related or not. Will re-save the document using save as then see if the issue persists.
Why do we still use eps?
Basically because we've found it to be much more compatible. Our entire logo library is in eps format (18 years worth) partly because it was previously the only format to use and partly because it allows account managers to send logos to clients, printers, TV stations etc and not involve the studio (saving out an eps version).
Although "Create PDF compatible file" is a good idea, we've encountered costly issues with colours and images - especially if the recipient is using old CS software, non-Adobe software or is using some kind of hardware RIP. We now just go with what we know works.
But I do find saving eps versions of everything to be a bit painful. In fact, I've always found Illustrator in general to be a bit painful when compared with Photoshop or AfterEffects. Illustrator seems like it's been developed by a different company some times!
Cheers, and thanks for the help.

  • Saving .eps to .pdf in Classic with Tiger???

    Hi,
I have a iMac and have just updated to Tiger OSX 10.4.2. I run Tiger as my general operating system however my version of Quark Xpress runs in the Classic Environment OS 9.
In the past I have saved a Quark Xpress file as an .eps and then gone into Acrobat Distiller and saved it as a .pdf. However since loading Tiger my distiller will not save my .eps file as a .pdf even though I still use both Quark and Distiller in Classic Environment??
Any assistance you could provide to rectify this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Joanne Matthews

Thanks, I just tried that but it doesn't retain the fonts? Yet the fonts are active. Any other ideas??

  • Placing Illustrator EPS Problem

I am trying to import an 6.875 x 10.5 inch document created in Illustrator CS6, saved as an eps, into Indesign CS6. Here is the problem:
The file is lettering for a comic book, so the lettering is randomly occuring on the page. It doesn't spread to the borders of the
of the 6.875 x 10.5 inch page. When I go to place it into Indesign, it comes in cropped to the dimensions of where the actual
lettering fitted on the illustrator page. (for example, if I just had once caption box with text in the middle of the page that was
1x5 inches, the imported eps document will come in as a 1x5 inch eps file.)  The problem here is that I can't center it properly
without having to adjust each imported eps and line it up with the page. This is rather diffucult because it has to line up precisely.
I remember this being a problem in CS4 also, but I came to a solution and can't remember what it was.
So my question is, How do I get Indesign to recognize the Illustrator eps as a 6.875 x 10.5 inch document that I can just center
using the align tools? Not sure if it is something in illustrator I need to do.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

One other thing. I used to be able to drag the file from "finder" on my mac, directly onto the ID document. It would then automatically place it there. Now when I do, there is the small preview box that comes up. I then have to double click to get the file to come in. Then it just crops it to the "artwork only", not the actually entire crop area. To top it off, once I get the file in, regardless of how, I can't use the align tools to get the file centered. This is really making my workflow counter productive. To have to "cnt + d" instead of just dragging and dropping the files and then using align tools to get everything centered is going to make putting a 200 page book a very long process. I have to be missing something here. I can't believe that these simple things would be removed from ID in the latest version.  Basically my work flow is this. Create an ID document and then drag and drop the "tiff" files of the art on one layer. Then doing to the same with the lettered eps files. The reason I don't just use the illustrator file is because when I save an Illustrator file that I simply add lettering on top of the artwork, it makes a 15mb piece of tiff artwork with the illustrator lettering into a 30mb file (if not larger). So I have to remove the art and then save it as an artless file, with just the lettering. I'd be more than happy to hear if anybody has a better way to do this. Illustrator is bloating my files. Once I separate the art and the lettering only files, I am working with the 15mb art and then 350kb eps file of the artwork, instead of working with a 30 plus mb Illustrator file. That starts to seriously make the file size of a 200 page book go up. Thanks

  • AICS3 .AI to .EPS problems

    Hi, All,
AICS3. Simple logo: 2 lines of outline type, white fill, transparent background, saved in native .ai. Been using this in IDCS3 with no problems... until I print to Adobe PDF 8.0 to create a PDF small enough for web posting. Here, the top word in my logo disappears.
Troubleshooting: I saved it as an .eps to see if this resolves it. Well, it appears this is where the problem lies, because when I place the .eps file in my IDCS3 doc, the top half of the logo is again missing.
I then saved the .ai logo as a .pdf (from AI) and placed that in my IDCS3 doc, which worked, and exported OK. (Lucky PDF supports transparency...)
But I want to resolve why the .ai file fails (the top line disappears) when the doc is printed to pdf from IDCS3, and why the same problem occurs when the .ai file is saved as .eps and placed in IDCS3.
    Help, anyone?

Ozzwoman, YOU HAVE *SAVED* ME!! A THOUSAND THANKS!
I never thought to go into Attributes, in fact I've never looked there. Interesting though how the .ai file overrode that.
MY PROBLEM'S SOLVED, THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO CONTRIBUTE TO THE FORUM!
    A follow-up question:
The line that was NOT showing up had Attributes > Overprint Fill CHECKED.
The line that was OK had NOTHING selected in Attributes.
So I UN-checked Overprint Fill and all's well. But doesn't "Overprint Fill" MEAN to overprint the fill of the object -- in my case white? So why wasn't it?

  • Saving eps format

I have created a little application, user can draw things
typing and creating simple logos. So, is there any way to save the
created logo as eps format from the application.
    Cheers!
    nalinda

It might be doable, but I'd say more theoretically than
    practically:
The first problem is saving soemthing from flash, but it can
be done siince Flash 8 with the file.reference class and some
    serverside action.
The second would be ti translate your graphic into eps. That
should be possible but it sounds very comlicated to me, but
probably a solution to generate a pdf (unprotected) would be easier
to come by, as there are several php tools out there that can
    generate pdfs.
    Though job in any case.

  • File Saving Path Problem

    Hi,
i have one problem on file saving. i need to save file (say XML file) in my given path location thru BLS transaction. The server is in some other place and if i give path to BLS transaction, it need to stor ein given location. i tried it but it is working for folder which is alreay in share. is it possible to store in given any path location?
    regards
    senthil

    Senthil,
is FTP an option for you?
We experienced the same problem, and to avoid problems with file shares ot mount points (we are running NetWeaver on Unix), we chose to use FTP so transfer files, using the FTP action.

  • A JavaBean that gives information about a job - saving parameter problem

    Hi,
I'm working on a Java-Applet that gives the user some information about the running job.
I modified a solution from Casey Bowden (thx to him) that lanches a seperate applet, from the current forms session, to update the user on the status of the report. It works great but I have one more problem.
If the Report getting an error, the programmer and organisator would like to replicate the error so it would be comfortable to see how the report get started. There is the RW_SERVER_JOB_QUEUE table that saves all the information the Report Server posts its information about the current report to the database each time a job request is submitted. I'm saving some information from the rw_server_job_queue in a seperate table with other specific information for our own administration.
The only information that I don't get are the parameters the report getting started. I would like to save all parameters in one column like the command_line in RW_SERVER_JOB_QUEUE table each time a job request is submitted. Is there any solution to get the parameters from the starting report?
I'm working with Oracle Forms 6i and Reports 6i.
    Thx for any help.

  • Brazil Daylight Saving Time Problem

In Brazil, we enter the summer time and my blackberry 9800 torch automatically work, but when I synchronized with the playbook, some problems arose.
The time in the menu setting is correct, as you can see in this image:
But the wrong time remains the main screen:
Does anyone have the same problem and knows how to fix it?
    tks,

    It did not work.
It is indifferent to select manual or automatic, the problem persists.
I'm in Brazil and with the correct time zone, but we are on daylight saving time.
On the menu setting time and date, the time is right, however, in early 1 hour on application clock and and late 1 hour on the main screen.

A scan from string function can be used as per the attachment. The double \ ('\\') is in the format string in order to interpret the '\' characters in your input string as literal characters and not special formatting.

  • CS4 EPS PROBLEMS FROM ILUSTRATOR TO InDesign

    Hi,
Original illustrator file, simple line, looks good in .ai   Also looks good as an .eps in Illustrator. When brought into CS4 InDesign we see very fine, faint
bitmapped negative lines - - as if the .eps was not fully drawn.
We have remedied this by stumbling upon using a TIFF. The TIFF appears complete.
Is there some transfer problem with Illustrator .eps to InDesign, and how may we remedy?

Generally, we just right click the blank of a webpage, click "Create shortcut", then it will prompt whether you want to save it on the desktop, did you save the webpage in this way? Once
it saved on the desktop, please right click the shortcut, choose properties, and view the URL of the shortcut.

  • [IDCS3] Mathtype equations eps problem

    Hi all,
I'm using IDCS3 & Mathtype 6.0, we placed the eps file from mathtype to InDesign and did ps to PDF. I noticed that some of the characters in pdf are applied artificial bold in some equations.
When we check closely, I think it is not concerned with InDesign, if we place the eps file directly into PDF it shows artificial bold in some places. I placed the screenshot below.
In the 1st image in 2nd line, 35-9/60, 0 is duplictaed twice so it appears as artificial bold in in 2nd image in the pdf.
But it is actually a single character when opening the same eps file in Math type.
Why this occouring? Anyone came across this kind of prob..
    Any suggestions would be helpful..

    Hello,
Your problem maybe concerned with MathType's bug.
You must have problems with generated PS from publication with MathType equations placed as EPS (lost or jumping characters).
There is a way to correct it. But in this case you must do some changes in MathType EXE-file.
    1. Do a copy of MathType.exe.
    2. Use HEX editor.
    3. Open MathType.exe by HEX editor and find ASCII code
    /ns {cf sf} bdef
    4. Change "b" to white space (" ") carefully.
    5. Save MathType.exe.
    6. Recreate equations. EPS-files must be created by edited MathType.exe once more before problems will disappear.
    7. Now all your PS and PDF will be Ok.
Please, do copies of all your files before all changes... to revert in problems case...
And this is not well method because of changing of MathType code. Sorry.

  • DCS EPS problem

    Hi all
We have been asked to convert a series of RGB images into a black plus blue spot image and I immediately thought that a multichannel file was the way to go. I got a sample file and created a multichannel image easily enough, saved it as a DCS 2 composite file and when I drop it into ID or QXP the file is hi-res black + spot blue. Knowing what a PITA DCS files are I suggested that we get the file tested by the typesetter. They use the 3B2 typesetting system and when they import the EPS and create a PDF all that comes out is the 72dpi RGB preview.
Any idea what I can do to get a hi-res 2col file out of 3B2? I had a demo of DCS Merger kicking around from when we used to use DCS files here and I've made a file using that for them to try but wondered if there was anyone here who had first-hand experience of such things who could suggest something I could do just using Photoshop (CS3).
Using duotones won't do as I need total control over what part of the image appears in what colour (it is a series of brain scans with blobs overlayed, which are to be in the spot blue.
    Any help gratefully recieved.

This may not be it, but I made a flyer for myself and had it offset printed. The print house needed a CMYK file with type outline in pdf-format.
Because I'm not a printer and certainly not a designer, I played for a while and by Jove, came up with this:
After flattening all layers except the type, I converted the type to a shape. (right click on the type layer).
Next I convert the RGB mode to CMYK
Then shifted the end points with curves so that max ink coverage was 300% (was approx. 360% right after conversion).
Then soft proofed to Coated Fogra, and while doing that increased mid-tone contrast.
If I then had saved as pdf, the type would be rasterised, but I found that I could save it as Photoshop EPS (not one of the DCS choices).
And the final touch was: I opened this EPS file on a Mac and the first thing it did was convert to pdf.
To check if the type was still vector based I zoomed in to 6400% on the pdf, and lo and behold: it was!
And finally: the print house accepted the order, ran it and it's fine!
I don't normally step into the design/offset realm, I submit photos
to that realm, and the above is probably less than optimal, but I was very pleased when I opened the box with my fresh Flyers!
