Saving FCP files error

I've never come across this more than upsetting error message before but was curious if anyone else had. I am basically getting an error message that says Error: Unknown File whenever I try to save my project. I've tried changing the name of the file. Any have any ideas? I'm running the newest FCP. It was upgraded last week and until about 10 minutes ago I hadn't had this problem.

Repairing Disk Permissions can help this.
Note that permissions repair via Disk Utility can only take place if all of the following are true:
The drive they reside on has Mac OS X installed and is currently booted.
The files to be repaired were placed there by Apple's Installer application.
Apple Installer deposited a .pkg file for those items at /Library/Receipts.
Permissions are not repaired on documents that are created by the user, drag and drop installations or files that were placed on the drive using a third party installer such as VISE or InstallAnywhere. Those permissions have to be set by hand, using the Get Info window or Terminal.

FCP File Error: Wrong Type

A EXT HD w/ 1TB worth of FCP Projects and it's media died on me. (no, none of it was backed up, please save me the lecture!)
Anyway, we sent it to one of the Drive Recovery places and they were able to retrieve about 95% of the files.
When I got back the new drive w/ the rescued files It seemed like it was all there until I tried to open one of the .fcp files and encountered this:
FCP File Error: Wrong Type
I checked the file's info to see if it was associated w/ FCP. It was...
I checked the Capture Scratch files and found that all of the Quicktimes did not have their ".mov" extensions. I added ".mov" after one of them and it opened successfully in the Quicktime Player. I tried moving this same file to FCP and encountered this:
File Error: Unknown File
As an experiment I took the same quicktime (which BTW is an HDV 1080i60 Quicktime) and dropped it into Compressor. I converted it to the same setting (HDV 1080i60) After the conversion I was able to pop it into FCP normally.
So what do you guys think? Is there anyway I can get these .fcp files to open? Am I totally screwed?

Yes, a .fcp extension means it's a FCP project file. I'm not dragging/importing .fcp's into FCP, just trying to open them normally w/ no luck. It's the QT's I've been dragging/importing into FCP.
I've tried a few Resource Editors to change the way the .fcp project files are handled/read w/ no luck

Can't import LIVE TYPE files .ipr into FCP - FILE ERROR: UNKOWN FILE.

I have had this problem for a while and simply just worked around it. But now I am editing so much more that I want it the way it use to be.
The Problem is FCP 6 will not let me import LIVE TYPE files. I have to render them into an .mov 1st in livetype. I use to be able to just drag the file into FCP and render it there after I tweeked it. Now it won't, it gives me this error- FILE ERROR: Unknown File.
I have already uninstalled Live type along with its PLIST as well as FCP. Re installed and still keep getting the same error. I can't remember when it started, all I know is I want it fixed.

What are the Project Properties settings? do they match the Sequence setting in FCP?
What elements are used in your LiveType composition?
Are you including images or background video?
If so, post the codec that the video uses. If there are images, the file type and color space.

Saving project file error

Whenever i add a video peephole effect to a clip or a still-photo and then try to save the project, I get the "saving project" window with the "saving project file" timer thing (?) continuously indictating it is trying to save, but it never stops. I end up having to force-close Imovie without saving any changes??

If your PowerBook is that new, then I would imagine that you do have the proper card.
To find out, click on the little Blue  in the upper left hand corner of the desktop. Then click on "About This Mac". Then "More Info..."
The System profiler will open and you then click on "Graphics/Display"
It will look something like this:

DW 8.0.2 + CF8 + Saving CSS file = Error

I have recently installed CF8 and it's running alongside of
CF7. Running Dreamweaver 8.0.2 which I believe is the latest patch.
This scenario has happened several times today...
I have a CSS file open along with a couple other files. The
CSS file is stored in
c:\coldfusion8\wwwroot\siteFolder\cssFolder\file.css. I am running
CF8 locally in Developer mode. I have my web root shared so that a
backup server can access the files each evening, however, I deleted
that share when troubleshooting this problem and it didn't help.
Ok... with the CSS file open I hit CTRL + S. An error
appeared from Dreamweaver saying approximately...
"A sharing violation has occurred with
c:\coldfusion8\wwwroot\siteFolder\cssFolder\file.css"
At that point, I can save the file under a new name. After
doing so, I can not delete the 'old' filename because I get a
similar/same sharing violation error.
Here are the things I tried....
Closing all browsers (primarily using FF2.0.6)
Closing/restarting Dreamweaver
Reboot
The only thing that helped was a reboot. After the reboot, I
was able to edit/test my CSS file for awhile but the error
eventually came back. So... I decided to try restarting the CF8
Application Server service from my MMC. Restarting the service
temporarily fixes the problem. I'm able to save my CSS again.
Unfortunately, the error keeps coming back and I have to restart
CF8 periodically.
Anybody got any advice?

I have been experiencing this problem too with ColdFusion 8
and Dreamweaver 8. Following the suggestion below and also clicking
on the 'Clear Template Cache Now' button, every time I see the
sharing violation error, it allows me to save the file again.
I am sharing this with you guys, since it has been really
frustrating for me having to restart ColdFusion every time this
problem occurred. At least by checking off the 'Save class files'
option and clicking on the 'Clear Template Cache Now' button, every
time I need it, I can avoid having to restart the service.
I hope Adobe can fix this problem, because I love ColdFusion
8, but this problem is really annoying and unproductive.

Saved fcp file now unable to read?

I saved a project last night, like I always do, and went to open it this morning and got this message:
This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut.
I didn't do anything different so am a bit confused. I went back into my Time Machine and opened the same file from earlier yesterday and it opened fine however I did a few hours of work on it after that and REALLY don't want to have to re-do it. Anyone else go through this??

Saving FCP files

I don't know the proper way to save files in progress. Sometimes when I open final cut the project opens, sometimes its in "recent", but a lot of times an older version comes up and I have to end up going through the autosave vault and finding the latest version of my edit. I have the scratch disk set to an external hard drive (which I always have hooked up when im using FCP), my autosave vault is set to my Mac HD. I hit "save" but where the heck is it going and what is the proper protocol to save projects so when I go to work on it again its the latest version and not an old version.

Just like any other application in which you can create and save documents (files), FCP will save it wherever you tell it to. When you open a new project, the default name that FCP gives it is "Untitled Project 1." The VERY FIRST STEP you should do is go to File->Menu->Save As and give the project a unique name and then tell FCP where you want to store the file.
The normal location to save project files is on your boot drives' user folder.

I have created one report in apex. I have dowload option to download the csv file from report.. i am able to download to download all files accept one report which is giving me the error while clicking on saving the file "Error: Unable to read source file or disk"...Please suggest why it is happening. Where are you trying to save it to?
Are you using iCloud?

File error importing animated sequence in fcp

hi, wondering if anyone can help, I have been sent some animated sequences and want to edit them in final cut studio.
they play in quicktime fine but if i import into fcp then i get the error : file error: 1 file(s) recognized, o access denied, 1 unknown.
I tried exporting and saving as other formats such as dv or quicktim e in quicktime pro but they all failed half way thru saving.
any ideas?

Hi,
I forgot why FCP gave me that message the last time around, but whenever something like this happens, FCP has problems with the file you want to import because of a codec issue for example. I find MPEG Streamclip to be very useful when this happens.

Simply open your movie with Streamclip and export as QT movie (I normally use the Animation codec so I lose as little image quality as possible). Then import into FCP and it will open.

File Error: 1 in FCP

I have been working on a major project due tomorrow, all of a sudden I can't inport any files at all. This is the error I Get; File error: 1, Recognized, 0 Denied, 1 unknown. Does anyone know what that means? PLEASE RESPOND IMMEDIATELY IF YOU DO.
When I digitize no clips are saved in the bin, but they are on the hard drive, but I can't bring them into FCP at all. I have made a new project file and transferred clips to another drive and still no luck.

if you close the existing project and create a new project does log and capture work correctly in that new project ... that is, is this error localised to this particular project, or does it happen to any project? fcp can have multiple projects open, so if the error is localised then you can simply open a new "capture" project, and continue to cut in the original project.
what about creatng a new user account, copying your project file to a shared directory, then logging in to the new account and opening your dodgy project there? does log and capture work with that project in the new account?
more things to try. do a "save as" on your project and see if the new version of the project file will function corectly. create a new project and copy and paste the project contents to the new project. export your project as an XML file, then create a new project using the file > import > XML function.

File Error: Access Denied on FCP?

I shot my documentary on a Canon T2i. I went on FCP to upload my clips and begin editing. I am not quite sure what the preset for my capture and sequence were before I started but I swtiched computers mid-way I was editing. Everything was saved my external hard-drive and now the FCP on the computer I am using will not let me render anything. It keeps saying "File Error: Access Denied". My documentary is due tomorrow and I don't know what to do.

Use Finder to select the drive your media is on, and press Cmd+i to open the information window.
At the bottom of the window, click the permissions disclosure triangle, and check 'ignore ownership of this drive'.

Photoshop CS6 program error saving layered files

I recently updated my adobe software and I am still getting issues with saving layered files. I keep gettting program error - only occasionally. Sometimes saving to my desktop works and other times it doesnt. Other coworkers are experiencing same thing ever since they updated. It happens when working on a layered file for any length of time and need to save it out as a layered photoshop file. We are forced to flatten and save as a tif and loose our layers. I think it has something to do with background task but not sure...

Drag the file to your desktop, open the file there, do your edits, save, and then drag back.
Let us know what you are working off. If server, what server software are you using. System preferences >> spotlight, uncheck all items.

File Error: Unknown File when saving

I tried to save my project to the drive I've been working in and saving all day. And all of a sudden Im getting a new error: File Error: Unknown File. What's that all about? It saved fine to another drive.

"Error saving state file"

I am getting an error that shows up on the alarm screen - it says "Error saving state file:c\program files\national instruments\lookout 5.0\petco.l4t".
Background: An old XP pro machine running the application died and was replaced with a new Dell, business class PC, Optiplex 360, Win XP Pro sp3, 2.2ghz dual core.
After moving the application and setting up the PC, I get the following message every time it trie to say the state file.
Is this a compatibility problem with the new hardware?
What can I do?
any ideas?

Does this machine have an auto-backup feature?
Some backup applications can actually lock the partition, making it read only.
