Saving files from PC's over VPN

I have a Win Server 2012 R2 DC connected to the branch office via an IPsec VPN. Users at the branch can log in just fine and use their terminal server sessions. Branch PC's are not domain members. Drives on the server are mapped over the VPN to the local
PCs. When users attempt to save files from the local PC to the mapped drive on the DC they get errors because they do not have permissions and are not domain members. They have accounts on the DC for their terminal server sessions. Is there any way around
this so that when needed files on the local PC's can be dropped directly on the server over the VPN.

Yes, you supply the credential in the net use. You could script a .cmd with that, and put it in a local login script.

No, iOS does not do short term incremental back ups to iCloud such as you get with Time Capsule.It backs up when you do soo manually, or if set properly, when the device is plugged in and connected to WiFi. It will not have saved your changes as of 10 minutes prior.

The document saving portion of the app was moved to the printer control app for the 5.0 update. You can use file sharing to copy the files from your device with 4.1, and then copy them in to the printer control app after. This can either be done wirelessly, or by USB through itunes. The document below will show you how to do both options to get them copied off of the device. Then you simply do the same steps in the printer control app to copy files back in.

When saving files from the internet, why doesn't Firefox 'know' to put .jpg files in "Photos" and pdf files in "Documents"? IE always saved photos in the "Photos" file and documents in the "Documents" file. Firefox makes me choose every time. Very annoying.

How about if Firefox is programmed like IE in this ONE thing...
When saving files from internet sources, if the file ends in a typical photo extension such as .jpg, .bmp, .tif etc. it defaults to save it in your PHOTOS folder.
When saving anything like a .doc, .pdf etc. it defaults to save it to your DOCUMENTS.
You could still change it to 'desktop' if that if really where you want all your photos and documents... or some other folder that you decide, but DEFAULTS to the LOGICAL folder.
I have carpal tunnel SO bad that even typing this suggestion is painful and having to make the extra click along with moving the mouse EVERY time I want to save something is painful.
ALSO, I shouldn't need a bunch of ADDONS to accomplish this. I tried downloading one and it did nothing. The problem still exists.

1. What is the best file format for saving images from Photoshop to bring into iMovie 09?
2. What should the image size of the file be set to from Photoshop? I would like the best quality while working in iMovie prior to exporting and compressing after I am done editing.

I see you have not marked your topic "Answered", so you may be hoping for some other suggestions. If your item 1 is intended to ask about file "type" (.psd, .jpg, .png, .tif, etc.), here is my suggestion.
Because of the large file size of PhotoShop (PS) .psd image files, *unless you need to keep the PS version with Layers, Adjustments, etc*., _and unless you do NOT keep a separate folder of PS images_, I suggest that you NOT save the PS .psd file "format" (type) into iPhoto (or iMovie.)
I keep all PS (.psd) image files that I want to retain in separate folders outside iPhoto. I also save the finished (PS) image as a .jpg or .png version which I import into iPhoto for easy import into iMovie via the media browser. Whether to use jpeg or png depends on the image quality I need.
If you are capturing the snapshots that you are editing with PS from an iSight, other webcam, or a Flip camcorder, the jpg version will probably give you all the quality you need. However, to make your decision easier, you can save multiple file type (and compression settings) versions of the edited file when you are finished in PS. Then import all the various jpgs, pngs, tiffs, etc, into a test movie, lable (title) them for easy identification, save the movie, and see if you can tell any difference in quality or each image when you replay your test movie. If you can tell a difference, you can decide how much quality you need and match that need with the file type and size that gives the necessary quality level. If you cannot see a difference in the move regardless of which file type or compression level, you can save space by using the smallest image file.

Saving files from CS4 to a network location

IIRC - I've got some artists that are having an issue in CS4 but not CS2 - when saving files that are on the file server, they get told the file is in use, and they have to save to a temporary file then move it outside of the application... any suggestions on this? Thanks

That sounds more like an issue with the server's file caching. I recommend you log on to the server, start the group policies editor and look for an Allow users to write files immediately option or whatever it may be called. Should effectively prevent the server from cahing the file first. also note, that if your users do not have dedicated user names and they all are logged on as Admin or User 1, User 2 and so on, it may still cause issues. If they're not already doing so, I'd advise them to use a dedicated user name. Also makes it easier to keep track of who modifiied files...

How can i configure my iphone to only pass traffic from certain apps over vpn

I have got a telephony app that connects to a phone system through vpn. when I turn on "send all traffic through vpn" internet and other apps are really slow. is their a way to configure the phone to send only traffic from the app through VPN.

Now all my new apps as well as several others are gone from the iPhone.
Look on other screens. The 4.1 update ands Game Center to the home screen. If that screen was full it create a blank screen and moves one app from the home screen to the new screen to make room for Game Center. All the other screens are pushed back one place.
How can I get my apps back? It cost me a lot of time and money to discover those apps and get them onto the phone. Are they just gone now?
If they are really gone, you can download them again. You will not be charged again if you use the same iTunes account.

Saving Files from Illustrator CC layers palette?

Is there a way to save files directly from the layers palette in Illustrator CC? I'm working on a rebrand project with hundreds of logo variations and I'm trying to figure out if there's an automated way to save .ai files from my layers panel (so I can batch them into various file formats using actions)? Thanks.

Ask in the scripting forum. There will be limitations, though, since AI doesn't really have the smartness in that department. You will still have to properly organize items first and do things like explicitly naming them uniquely...

(Kdialog?) Saving file from browser - pop-up takes forever to load

For the past month or so I've encountered an issue that is driving me nuts - anytime I try to download a file from within a browser it takes up to a minute for the pop-up dialogue to ask me where I want to save the file. When I try to upload something (a gmail attachment for example) it takes just as long to open dolphin for me to choose my file. I experience this behavior with chromium and firefox. I've tried disabling all desktop effects but that didn't have any affect. Occasionally I'll get a pop-up that kdialog has frozen and isn't responding. Running chrome in the terminal doesn't give me any helpful output unfortunately. Deleting my chromium .config and starting fresh doesn't seem to have an effect either.
So, it appears that chromium is having an issue telling kdialog to open dolphin.
I'm at a loss here. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Chrome/ium+nvidia had a bug that made kde file browsing extremly slow (dolphin, kdialog, etc), but -at least for me- seems fixed now with chromium.
Try this: reboot, open firefox -not chrome/ium-, and test it for a couple of hours, if the problem remains, no idea, if it's gone, probably the chrome/nvidia bug i'm talking about.
edit: you can also open the task manager (ksysguard), and check if there is any chrome/ium process running with chrome closed, if so, kill them (they might be zombie processes), and give kdialog another try

Issues saving files from LR4 in CS6

I just installed CS6 on a new computer, i7 and plenty of everything. Also has windows 8, yuck. On my previous computer running a different ps but the same Lr version, I had no issues. But saving images is a nightmare. I shoot in raw, so my files are large. From within Lr, to bring a photo in tiff format over to ps, edit, save, it will take minutes PER photo. Yet bringing the same raw image into ps via bridge, it saves fine...still a bit slow, but not even close to the lag. Same issue whether it is psd or tiff.
There is no software on my computer other than cs6 and lr4.2, no antivirus, nothing except the other garbage that comes with win 8. I think that because I can't find anything on this issue, it must be due to win 8 as the OS and it is causing a disconnect between Lr and ps.
Please help ASAP, I was on chat with someone who was clueless. Thank you...

How can I use iCloud just as Dropbox e.g. (having access to saved files from several devices)?

I want to have access to some PDF's and pictures for example on my iPad when i saved it to iCloud on my MacBook. Is that possible? How? (Sry for my bad English, I'm from Germany and didn't use iCloud before )

iCloud does not offer a generic file storage facility.
Try using an alternative service such as Dropbox, GoogleDrive, OneDrive, SugarSync, Box etc. which does offer this facility.

Mac OS X: Long ( 15 min. ) Saving File from PP Linked Comp

Is anyone else experiencing a very long time when saving a AE Linked Composition from PP?
I have several from one project .. but the whole project is only 40 min long.
All SD.

The problem is unnerving.
I have one clip .. Dynamically Linked from PP.
It is 44 seconds long.
There is approx. 18 similar files .. most are longer .. in the same 'batch' project file .. which is the only way PP and AE can handle the Dynamic Link correctly ( SEE my other post from a year ago )
When I make a small change in the 44 sec. clip and try to save the file .. it takes 7 minitues to save the project. ( the "Save Project" dialog box says 18 min. inaccuratly. )
Everytime.
This is completely unacceptable .. and one of my latest giant peevs about the workflow of this "Master Suite".
Again .. from my other posts .. there is only 1/2 a core processor ( out of 12 cores ) running in the Activity Monitor .. and I have a new fast RAID running ( at least I guess its fast )
Any thoughts?

Saving Files from Photoshop to Lightroom

In LR 3 when I saved an image after editing in PS, the edited file showed up next to the original RAW file. Now in LR 4, the saved image is placed at the end of the folder. It there a preference somewhere that I can set to tell LR that I want it placed next to the original? I like to see them side-by-side and don't like having to go searching for the edited file.

I don't think so. By sorting them manually (user order), you're effectively over-riding the capture time default , so it wouldn't be logical for it to sort by both at the same time, if you see what I mean. How would LR be able to figure out which files to sort automatically, and which ones to leave alone?

Cannot retrieve saved files from I cloud after resetting I pad

As I had issues with the I pad I decided to save all my files, photos etc on I cloud and then reset the I pad back again. Now I am unable to retrieve most of the docs and photos saved on I cloud. It shows all the files are available on I cloud but, cannot retrieve.
Visited apple store and spoke to a sales person who mentioned apple can help on this as some of the apps I used were 3rd party apps such as quick office. These apps were purchased from Apple store and it is surprising they seem to be not compatible.
The reason to have an I cloud account is to be able to retrieve your files on the move.
Most of my main documents were initially saved on quick office.
If I am unable to get this issue solved this will be my last apple product and definitely warn others who is using I cloud to save docs.

Can you find a folder in the backup that looks like the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird profile folder]? In XP it would have been in C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>. If so, the mail files and address books should be there, and can be transferred to the new profile.

Can't get syslog messages from Remote SA520 over VPN

I'm trying to set up a central logging server on a debian system running rsyslog.
The syslog server is local & I have a branch office connected via a VPN. Both buildings have SA520 routers.
I have set up both firewalls to allow ANY from each network 192.168.150.X & 19.168.160.X
(also tried to add a rule for UDP514 but that didn't help)
The debian system is new & has no iptables set up
I've entered the syslog server IP in remote logging.
I've set up facilities in Send to syslog for both routers.
I am logging messages from the local router but don't see anything from the remote.
I've checked with wireshark & see no syslog packages from the remote (I do see SSL negotiation & others when using the web admin and of course the functioning vpn)
I rebooted the router to see if that mae a difference but no luck.
Any ideas why I can't get the syslog traffic across the VPN?

I do have the correct IP address of the syslog server set up. I do not want email logs so have not enabled that.
My setup is
remote lan > SA520-remote (192.168.160.1) > [ site to site IPSec VPN over WAN ] > SA520-local (192.168.150.1) > syslog server (192.168.150.25) & local lan
Firewall is set up to allow ANY IN & OUT to local lan on both routers.
I have also set up specific rules for UDP 514 Syslog traffic (no difference, currently disabled)
syslog server has -no- firewall at the moment.
Syslog server is receiving messages from the local router with no issues.
Log Severity is set to Information & Log Facility is set up to send to Syslog.
I have also setup a SNMP trap on the syslog server & pointed the remote router to it in hopes of diagnosing the issue.
Both routers have the latest firmware applied.
Using wireshark on the syslog server I see no traffic on UDP 514 (syslog) or UDP 162 (snmp)
I can use the WUI for the remote & ping the 160.1 with no problem. Both ping & TLS/TCP traffic show up in wireshark on the syslog server when I do so.
It looks to me like there is a problem routing the syslog messages out of the router & then back through the VPN.
Worst case I'll set up another syslog server on an old machine at the remote location & then cron the logs to the central syslog server but it really seems I shouldn't have to.
