Saving files in editor

Whilst trying to save an edited file in editor I get the following message.
Could not build a preview because of a program error. Im using imac

It's very important to delete old preferences after a major OS X upgrade. For PSE 11 you want to go to your username>library>preferences and delete
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Settings
and any lockfiles with those names.
While you're in that library go to the Saved Application States folder and delete any for PSE, since you've run it.
Here's how to find the user library in 10.9:

and repair permissions before you try again.

  • Why SQL queries are not saving in agentry editor for first publish?

    Hello Experts,
In the process of developing an agentry application i have defined SQL steps and saved in agentry editor with out any errors .When i have published definations for first time it is displaying error 'Invalid object some where' in back end SQL log file ,when i have seen in editor some times the query is not saved, some times even it is defined then also the same  error. So i have copied the steps and saved again. Now i have done a publish,it is working fine. This is happening only when i implement exchange mechanism(Showing error in ATE getfetch error). But with out exchange mechanism  it is working fine.Is this related to the installation of editor plig-in is not correct?. I have done preferences setting in my workspace correctly.
Help me in this regared. Thanks in advance.
    Thanks & Regard,
    Sravanthi Polu

    Sravanthi,
For your error: displaying error 'Invalid object some where' in back end SQL log file.. This is happening only when i implement exchange mechanism(Showing error in ATE getfetch error)
Two suggestions (My best suggestion is item 2 below - I think that is where you have the error)
Item 1: Are you using the right encoding? In your Eclipse Editor under the main menu Windows - Preference -> General -> Workspace. What is your Text file encoding set to? Cp1252? Try setting it to UTF-16.
There is a tutorial about this in:
https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/esa_redirect/index.htm?gotocourse=X&courseid=70246375 (Enterprise Academy classes). The course is really a simple < 5 minutes discussion on different types of encoding and why they exist and how to change the Eclipse to what you wanted.  SQL is normally done in UTF-16 for 16 bit.
I am assuming that the encoding could be wrong.
Item 2: Another thing that could be wrong is how you specify the SDML (Flunky code).
In your SQL Script: Anything that has the "<<" and ">>" open and close marker is an SDML (Data Markup Language) and needs to be pre-populated before the Agentry Server submits your SQL query to the backend. In essence, this is use to populate the SQL query with predefine information like your userID or location and when the SQL gets process it will populate the script with the correct information.
So if you are not properly using the flunky (ex: <<object.address>> where address is not a key ID in a Fetch step (Check manual for usage of SDML AgentryLanguageReference_6.0.0.0.pdf) then you may get invalid object.
When you do a SQL "Fetch" Client Exchange and Server Exchange Steps, you can select a few options:
For this discussion let us talk about these 2 items below.
    1. Run Attribute: Run One Time
    or
    2. Run Attribute: Run Once Per Object.
When you select Run Once Per Object the only available Flunky or SDML commands you have are:
    object.keyPropertyName
    lastUpdate
    fetch.messageNumber
The 3 above are your only options
If you try to do something like object.property1 where property1 is part of your object properties then it will not work for Run Once Per Object.
It may work for Run One time as fetch.propertyname.
From your symptoms where you are complaining about an issue in exchange steps, your error is a typo or a misused or a misunderstanding of how fetches and SDML works (documented in page 398 or 399 of AgentryLanguageReference_6.0.0.0.pdf).
See pictures just in case you don't have access to that pdf file (The picture below simply proves what SDML options is available for your Fetch Client Exchange Step).
    Hope this helps.

  • Saving files from CS4 to a network location

IIRC - I've got some artists that are having an issue in CS4 but not CS2 - when saving files that are on the file server, they get told the file is in use, and they have to save to a temporary file then move it outside of the application... any suggestions on this? Thanks

That sounds more like an issue with the server's file caching. I recommend you log on to the server, start the group policies editor and look for an Allow users to write files immediately option or whatever it may be called. Should effectively prevent the server from cahing the file first. also note, that if your users do not have dedicated user names and they all are logged on as Admin or User 1, User 2 and so on, it may still cause issues. If they're not already doing so, I'd advise them to use a dedicated user name. Also makes it easier to keep track of who modifiied files...

  • Cropped in Photoshop but saved file can't be seen in iPhoto browser??

iPhoto Preferences > General > Edit photo: > in Adobe Photoshop CS4
When I open an image in iPhoto, and right click to open in external editor, then crop the photo and Save As, the cropped image does not show up when I browse iPhoto. When I command-click the title of the PS file, however, it shows me that the cropped file actually exists inside the exact iPhoto folder where the original picture is.
I am having trouble understanding the basic idea of how iPhoto's library works and how PS CS4 interacts when you save an image.
I want to keep using iPhoto as my one and only library, but this kind of behavior is crazy making. Can someone shed some light, or point me towards the right thread?
    Thanks!

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Conversions aside, the fundamental flaw: Saving Files

In all Macdom it is true that if you want to save your work there are two choices.
Save: OVER-WRITES your file and commits changes.
Save-As: PRESERVES the previous version and saves a new one.
This concept is universal, fundamental and well understood by computer users.
    Aperture violates this protocol.
Aperture REQUIRES that I over-write the file I'm working on as a condition of managing it within Aperture. I can only SAVE the file and have it appear in the app. A Save-As, saves the version outside the application and I have to jump through hoops to get it back in.
In Aperture, if I want to perform the equivalent of a Save-As I have to do it before I open the file. I have to tell Aperture to create a new version of the file, open THAT version and continue. This is because I cannot, in an external editor, decide that I have just made changes that I may want to reverse and that it's a good idea to save what I've done as a version. Well, I can do that, but doing it is complicated.
    I have to Save-As,
    Leave the Application,
    Navigate to the saved file,
Drag it into the appropriate project in Aperture,
Delete the version in the finder
Moreover as we know any layers created in any but the first version of a file are not accessible from within Aperture. If I want to open the second or third or subsequent version of a file and access it's layers I have to
Tell Aperture to make a copy of that version of that file to the hard drive
    Navigate to that file
Drag it into the external editor of my choice
When I save the file, since it wasn't opened FROM Aperture I can't save it back into Aperture so I must save it to the hard drive
    Navigate to the file
Drag it into the appropriate project in Aperture
Delete the version on the hard drive.
From one dialog box we have gone to six new steps.
To my mind this is a silly, obstructive, dangerous workflow. I trust Apple will fix it. They will have to fix this as well as a number of other bugs, bear-traps, gotchas and conversion quality issues before Aperture will be worth it's price tag.

I understand what you are saying, but think there are a few holes in the mental model you have built.
To start with, since you start with an untouchable RAW file, any operation after the start is essentially an automatic "Save As". From there..
    <....>
In Photoshop, make changes. Save file back to
    Aperture.
You now have one Master and one working file.
You now want to make some changes to the working
file. Click on it and open it in Photoshop. Aperture
does NOT make a version of this file. Any changes you
save will over-write this file. Your previous Version
    One is toast.
Aha! But think about how useful a feature this is. Let us say you had done a lot of work with layers in Photoshop. The advanatage is you get back that exact same file with all the layers intact. You can name the version and so distiguish this as a special, Photoshop version that you need to make new versions from if you want copies.
Indeed I think this to be trhe most sesnsible default as the flow should be - RAW goes to Aperture, do do what it can. If the image is beyond just Aperture to retouch, you send it to the e3xternal editor but at that point you've realy reached an end in Aperture and you are working the image over soley with the external editor. There is no other point it makes sense there to make a version for you, it would actually be rath in convieninet if you are making a lot of short hops between Aperture and Photoshop to say tweak an image you are using in a compariosn or on a light table.
However you are not quite seeing the whole picture, as another thing Aperture also does in this case is to make a new copy automatically ONLY IF you use Aperture tools for adjustment. From that sense it is still like an automatic "Save As", only if you do not return to the tool that spawned the master in the first place. As I said though I don't think that to be a very good idea (apart from making side versions from a PSD master like B&W or other crops).
    <...>
Worse. You are working on Version 1 and save it at
some critical juncture. You continue working on it
and save it again. If at any point you do a Save As
to create a version from within photoshop so that you
don't overwrite version 1 you can't save that to
    Aperture.
Sure you can, you just have to manually rest the saved location back to the "new master" held in the Aperture library.
Alternatley you can copy the adjustment layers from thee "Saved As" image back into an Aperture version after simply telling Aperture to "Edit in external editor" again.
Yes, your Master is safe, as it is in every other
application that converts RAW files, but the work you
do on those images is in grave danger.
Aperture makes some pretty good guesses but it cannot read minds or prevent you from doing silly things in external editors. The real question is why, if you are letting Aperture manage the PSD file are you doing a "Save As" in Photoshop at all? That part of your scenario makes no sense to me, or at least not as much sense as the rest did. Let go and use Photoshop as a close extension of Aperture instead of trying to save files elsewhere when there is no need.

  • Saving files to a specific folder

I used to be a PC, now I am a Mac, learning fast, but I have a problem in saving files from the web. I am using OS 10.4.7
I am using Firefox and Thunderbird.
When I try to save email or a picture from a web site I am presented with a Menu; Save as, Where and Format. The 'Where' is the problem.
    When I click 'WHERE', I am presented with a list;
    Network
    Mac HD 80
    Mac HD 60
    Desktop
MCMP (HOME, where all my different folders are)
    Applications
    Movies
    Music
    Picures
When I click on MCMP, my home with all my sub folders, there is no way to save the file any place but just in MCMP. I have no options which folder in MCMP or sub folder of a main topic folder. Saving to MCMP just puts the file in with all my different folders.
How do I direct exactly which folder the item is to be saved into.
    Thank You

Spring loaded folders: Drag a file to a flder, hold it over it and the folder will open. You can use this to drop files into sub folders and so on. The timing on how long you have to hold is controlled in the Finder preferences -> General Pane.
Another possibilty for your original question is to use Default Folder X, a shareware, that makes navigating open and close dialogues very easy.

  • Authenication needed when moving or saving files to a folder

I've been online searching but can't find a resolution to disabling having to authenticate when moving or saving files to any folder.
I read something about using Terminal and tried the suggestion which was typing in
sudo chawn -R yourshortname . Then putting in my password when prompted. It either will not type my password or not accept it.
    Can anyone help? Thanks

You can't disable or correct it with that command. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1216618 for more information.

  • Saving file to network location

    Hello all of you,
I encounter an issue with InDesign CS5 when it comes to opening and saving files to a network location. I added my company's ftp server to Windows 7 and it appears correctly in the My computer overview (there's an additional line besides the hard discs, DVD player, et cetera). The connection to the server functions fine, no issues here. No problem exists when opening files from this server from within InDesign; I can do whatever I want. Only when I try to save a file the network location isn't displayed anymore within the My computer overview in the InDesign "Save as" dialog box. The network location however appears in the pull-down menu at the top of the dialog box (and nested as part of My computer ...), but when I pick it there, it won't show the context of the server. Additionally logging onto the server (it's IP-based and anonymous logon) doesn't change a thing. Trying to save in the empty server space InDesign returns a "Can't save here" error message.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
    Best regards,
    Luc Peulen

Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
Scott is basically right. Lots of ID users work over network connections without issue, but if something is going wrong, it's the first place to look. I wouldn't have thought it possible to work in InDesign over a FTP connection!
If you can get Windows to access that server as if it were just another drive (using "Map network drive" in Explorer) then it should work normally. However, a generic Adobe phone tech wouldn't help you figure out why it wouldn't work - there are simply too many variables in a network environment for a generic first-level tech to figure out.
In the short term, the only solution I can suggest is:
Retrieve all of that external content that is linked in the document, and the InDesign document, at the same time, & store it on your local hard drive.
    Do your work.
    Save & package.
Upload the entire package back to the server.
Long-term, you'd need to talk to your own IT staff to troubleshoot the connection between your workstation and the FTP server. If you can get information about your network from them to post here, I bet that someone will make suggestions to pass on to your IT staff that will actually work.

  • How to get a gif file to loop in PE11 with MAC 10.6.8? 480x320x72 pix/in. saved layers for web, check animate, preview plays fine but saved file doesnt

can't figure out why the gif file won't loop. Set up 5 photo frames 480x320pixels x 72pix/in in PE11, creating a layer for each. Each layer visible. Saved for web. Checked animate. The preview plays fine. But when I save the file and then click on the saved file to play, it re-opens the layers instead of playing the loop. The only SAVE option that shows up is "IMAGES ONLY"
Using photoshop elements 11 on MAC 10.6.8. Either I'm setting this up wrong or is there a hidden setting I need to change?

Thanks for the thought, Barbara B. Not sure if this counts, but emailed the file to myself [different email account, same computer] but it would not play as an email attachment. Any suggestions for a web upload where I can test your suggestion? Seems like there should be a different save option other than IMAGES ONLY but that is the only option I'm given.

  • Office 2013 applications cannot be made to show the "Documents" folder when opening and saving files

(Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 8.1 PRO)
We are redirecting the user's "Documents" folder to the network (using Folder Redirection). The OS hides this fact however, and most applications simply see the "Documents" folder when opening or saving files, including Office 2003.
Office 2013 however displays the actual path, which in this case is:
    \\sever1\redirect$\username\documents
Even if you forcibly set the "Default local file location:"  in the Options Save area to the 'Documents' folder in, say, Word, Word immediately converts the local path to the network path.
Is there anyway to get Office 2013 to follow the virtual path? All of other apps follow it and expose the users only to "Documents".
    Thank you so much.
    Dana

There's nothing in my FAQ concerning screen savers, so I'm unsure why you decided to take that approach. From your description, it looks like you only tried a few of the suggestions before throwing in the towel. That's fine, it's your call.
I don't have the problems you described with 10.4.7. Usually when folks have problems after an update, these are caused by either installing an update on an already-corrutped system or they've installed third-party applications or hardware that have been rendered incompatible by the update.
Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.
    Good luck!

I've been using numbers for iPad and I accidentally deleted a column. And the auto-save feature saved that and now I can't undo it. Does iCloud storage have backups of saved files from like 10 minutes ago? I have numbers synced to iCloud.
I tried to undo it but the app crashed.
I am hoping there's like a previously saved version of my file in iCloud somewhere.

No, iOS does not do short term incremental back ups to iCloud such as you get with Time Capsule. It backs up when you do soo manually, or if set properly, when the device is plugged in and connected to WiFi. It will not have saved your changes as of 10 minutes prior.

  • How can I revert to a previous saved file?

    Hi,
I have been working on Word for Mac 2011 and have been saving continuously onto the same document as my work progresses. I always reference manually and somebody suggested I use footnotes to reference. This was too problematic as I needed to reference separately
at the end of three sections and footnotes was only allowing me one lot of references. So I copied and pasted my other two sections underneath the footnote referencing  and Word must have assumed it was part of the footnotes because when I completed my
work and went back to re-reference each section manually and delete the old footnote references, I lost all my work done underneath the footnotes! Now, I hear you can "revert to previous saved file" or some other such thing  to go back to a
previous save of the same document. Any help is greatly appreciated on how to do this!!
    Thanks,
    Ayema

If you haven't saved the document, pressing Command+Z will undo the paste.
If you have already saved the file then hopefully you have the option set in preferences to Always Create a Backup and in the folder where the original file is locate you will find a file name "Backup of..." the file name you are working on. This
will be a how the file looked prior to the last save.
If you don't have the Always Create a Backup option set, besides "Shame on You" then go to your Time Machine backup which should be no more than 1-hour old and you can get previous hours... assuming you have that function enable. If you don't then
    again... Shame on You!
If you have neither of these built-in options set then I pray you are using my
GotUrBack application running, which will protect you with up to 9 levels of backup of your saved version of the file.
    http://www.greatcirclelearning.com/zapps-got-ur-back
And if you don't have any of the above set or running then I'm sorry to have to say... you are out of luck and have a great deal of file recreation to do.
    Kind Regards, Rich ... http://greatcirclelearning.com

  • CS6 & OSX 10.6.8 - saving files directly to the server does not work (most of the time)

    Hi there,
we just switched from OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.8
OSX was installed on a new partition of the harddisk
    Then installed CS 5
Then installed CS 6 via (adobe creative cloud)
With CS6 we got also the problem with saving files to the server (program error)
It happens mostly with photoshop, sometimes with Illustrator.
I read a lot of posting regarding the same problem but didn´t found a real solution yet.
I am also wondering that there seems to be no solution for this now, because most of the posting i read are 1 year old.

    Hi franverdi-
It sounds like you've run into issues from the upgrade. I've found a Support article that helps with issues of not being able to connect after an upgrade:
    [[Cannot connect after upgrading Firefox]]
    I hope that helps!

  • Saving files for metro apps in Windows 8/8.1 when printing

    Hi,
I have a query regarding saving files for metro apps Windows 8/8.1.
Metro apps saves the file automatically  to the Document folder when we print.
But I would like to save the files into a recommened folder like C:\users\tmp\
Please suggest me, is there a way to save the files to a particular folder for metro apps in Windows 8/8.1.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    Toshik12

As far as I know (and I may be wrong), there's no built-in file saving when printing documents.  How are you confirming that?
You can save the file anywhere you want, as long as the user chooses the folder location using the FolderPicker.

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined
