Saving files is very slow!!!

Since I installed (updated) from CS5 to CS5.1, saving files is very slow. It takes like 4 minutes save a 2048 X 2048 png file which used to take seconds in CS5.
I am not sure what changed... I completely uninstalled all versions of Photoshop. Re-downloaded from the website. Deleted my user preferences and the problem remains.
Why is saving so slow all of a sudden?
Using Windows 7 - 64 bit

Hm, that's kind of alarming.  Is it happening with all files or just PNG.
If every file does that, it could be a possible indication that your disk is going bad...
Click Start and type view events into the search box.
When View event logs comes up, click it.
Navigate down into Windows Logs > System and see if there are any Error events there that indicate problems with your disk.
If this isn't the problem, it's possible that Photoshop is having to wait for a disk to spin up to be able to access it.  Do you see the problem occur when you save again right away?  Are you using an external drive for either file storage or as a scratch disk in Photoshop?
Lastly, you may have a stored printer or drive connection to a location on your network that does not exist now (or is not responding) and that has to time out before completing the operation.  Have you changed anything in your network lately?

  • Saving tiff from Raw file is very slow (10 min) CS6?

    MY OS is 10.7 and using CS 6, Raw 8.3.0 . I am having difficulty saving files from my RAW file, it is now taking up to 10 min just to do a simple save in photoshop. I have 32 GB of Ram and 2700GB on an internal scratch disk. The process of saving will stop at about 50% then stall and at about 8-10 min the file will save as a tiff. What is going on, this just started in the past week?

    Whenever I begin to experience a slow-down in my system (Mac OS) I launch "Activity Monitor" which shows me where all my CPU and RAM resources are being allocated and how much. This is where I will usually find the resource hog. There is probably an equivalent system utility for Windows OS.
    The next thing I would check (often alluded to by the resource allocation check above) is what programs are being automatically loaded at launch -- your Start-Up list. For a Mac this can be found in the User info. I believe Windows also has this list, maybe somewhere in the Control Panel.
    Next, I will do as R_Kelly suggests and replace my preferences files for both Photoshop and Bridge. I have a good copy of each file saved where I can reload it when necessary.
    Last I will do a diagnostic hardware test, available on Mac OS by accessing the recovery disk. Not sure about Windows, probably in System Accessories folder or in the Control Panel. Once I discovered I had a bad stick of RAM memory that was slowing things down and even causing Photoshop to crash. Also check to see if your Scratch Disk is clean and defragmented. I re-formated my Scratch Disk once and that cleared up a problem I was having with Photoshop.

  • File transfer very slow with a SSTP VPN

    I have a serer in the office and I connect from my house through a SSTP VPN. In my home computer (client) I add a new network folder, this networkf folder is in the server, that has a shared folder. I can transfer files, but is very slow.
    For example, to transfer a folder that contain about 20 files, and in total are 11MB, it takes about 3 minutes. The server has a upload bandwidth of 890kbps. With teamviewer VPN takes about 1minute with 55 seconds.
    The problema with the SSTP is that the transfer speed is not stable, bteween 0-200kbps. The problema is that when has to transfer a file, always the same, the speed drop to 0bytes/s and in this state is about 1-15 seconds and continue the transfer. Why?
    So the total time at the end it's much more than the time that I need if the connection was stable and used all the bandwith. How I say, teamviewer VPN takes about 1:55 inteado of the 3:00 of SSTP.
    Thank so much.

    Hi ComptonAlvaro,
    Please check if we have other program is connecting the Internet when we use the SSTP.
    Additionally, we could contact the ISP to check the stability of network.
    Regarding the slow SSTP performance issue, we could refer to the following thread similar to this issue.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8e8e4220-af25-4627-bed2-47db8c04d318/sstp-and-slow-transfer?forum=winserverNIS
    Please take the following steps to fix this issue:
    1. Add new registry key and value “ TcpAckFrequency=1 ” for all NICs on VPN server, so that we can reduce ACK delay.
    2. Disable Windows 2008 SNP feature, and restart VPN server
    3. Disable TCP Checksum offloading on VPN server
    Hope it will be helpful.

  • OSD: Downloading multiple files is very slow

    I has a exe software. It is not a single file package, it contains a lot of files. when I installed this software in OSD, I found it would spend 15~20minutes to download files.
    It was very strange. The software is only 750 mb size. the speed of downloading 6 GB OS image is also much faster than this software.
    I know downloading multiple files is slower than downloading a single file, if their size are same.
    But the downloading of multiple files in OSD is "really" very slow.
    Why?  Cause of BITS or RDC?  How to fix it?
    PS:I update to SCCM 2012 R2 with CU1,  add the below into SCCM
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\DP]
    "RamDiskTFTPBlockSize"=dword:00004000
    http://windowsdeployments.net/how-to-speed-up-pxe-boot-in-wds-and-sccm/
    Now, the download speed up to 4 minutes, but it still slower than the normal copy & paste.
    Test result:
    OSD: 2.6G
    single image, 2 minutes
    OSD: 750m multiple files, 4 mintues
    after OSD, copy & paste from network drive, 750 multiple files, 1 mintue

    I had updated to CU1 and add this into regedit . It is quicker than before, but it still slower than the normal.

  • All my pdf files are very slow to download, scroll down and/or read.

    I am having difficulties opening any pdf files as it is very slow, does not scroll down easily and just plain cumbersome.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?  Additionally, as soon as I want to open the file, the fan on the cpu starts.  I am not sure if they are related, but it just happens all the time.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Have you verified speed via speedtest.net ?
    Have you checked at different times?
    Check istumbler or netstumbler to verify interference
    Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS (settings - network - configure DNS - automatic)

  • Time machine file transfer very slow during OSX 10.7 re-install

    I am using a macbook pro, and was running 10.7. (not sure exact version, and cannot look now, but should have been up to date)  I tried the free upgrade to Mavericks, but it failed and said I had a disk error.  At this point I could not boot back to 10.7 so I booted with apple-R.  I tried to do a repair from disk utility but that failed so I erased my hard drive.  Then I proceeded with an install of 10.7, which proceeded fine.  I got  to a point where it asked about transferring files, (forget the exact wording) and I said to use my time machine backup (from right before I tried the upgrade - backup was 80GB) and I started that.  It has been 16 hours and it still has not finished.  The external hard drive (Lacie)  clicks / whirs, and I see signs of very slow progress... (seems to be at about 80% now judging by the progress bar) but it can go hours without any noticeable change.  The "time remaining" information is variable -- going up and down -- and is clearly not correct-- has said 1.5 to 2.5 hours for the last 12 hours
    Any ideas?  should I just wait a few more days     should I abort and restart the file transfer (if so, what is the best way to do this?)
    I cannot provide details on the computer since it is still busily restoring (I hope), but it is roughly 3-4 years old, lots of free space on hard drive (>100GB),

    These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes.) You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard."
    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamp of the last "Starting" message that corresponds to the beginning of an an abnormal backup. Now
    CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
    so that all messages are showing, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    ☞ If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
    ☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

  • Apple File Sharing very slow with Mountain Lion

    I've noticed since upgrading to 10.8 the transfer speeds over a LAN via AFP (File Sharing) are VERY slow.. in some instances.  Based on the behaviour i'm guessing it has something to do with the amount of items.
    for instance:
    A folder that contains approx 122mb worth of 1500 small files takes me about 50 seconds to transfer while a long audio recording with a greater filesize of 125mb takes only 11 seconds.
    using SCP from the command line the same 122mb folder took only 19 seconds while the audio took 10 seconds.
    after performing the same operations on a computer running 10.6 I can deduce that the problem is on the receiving end.  Audio file transfer times were the same, however the same folder of items took only 27 seconds when it was transferred to a computer running 10.6 regardless of which OS the computer sending the file was running.
    apparently handling a greater number of files increases transfer time for both methods but AFP is painfully slow with 10.8 on the receiving end.
    any thoughts or suggestions?
    I've read a couple threads about people having trouble with Time Machine running slowly.. i wonder if this is related.

    Same problem here. I just upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion. I only got 19 GB of space, but Time Machine wants 10 hours, whereas in OSX Lion a full backup would take just under an hour, and incremental updates were lightning fast.
    I even sat it up to do it overnight, but on 8 hours it was only half way through only 10 GB. I can't live with that in the future.
    Im trying to backup on a SD card which seems to work very good in Lion. Im on a 2012 Macbook Air using a SSD.
    My bite of the apple has been somewhat sour. I tried reformatting the SD card, well knowing that I would lose old backups. But still the backup is extremely slow. Now I can't install Lion or Mountain Lion from scratch without having to wait 10 hours for TM backup or installing tons of applications and settings again. Bummer. I'm never going to early adobt a OSX upgrade again.

  • Forms executable files execute very slow

    I am using AS10g form services. But the form applet which executes at the client is very slow as compared to the previous version of forms like 6i
    Data Entry is time comsuming, coz the applet taked time to open an LOV and in other operations.
    Is there any way to speed up this process?

    Forms 10g run as a Java applet in the browser. Java takes more resources on a PC than Forms 6i (client/server). Check your PC if you need more memory.
    Also, check the Jinitiator cache settings.

  • CS3 crashes when Opening and saving files - also runs slow

    Today, while using photoshop, it locked up on me & I had to force quit. It then wouldn't open a file either via Bridge or the open menu. I could create a new file, but it would hang while attempting to save.
    I downloaded and ran the FixVCUIFramework, and it allowed me to open and save 1 file, before it started not saving or opening again. Running the Fix again has no effect.
    I switched to another user account, and everything works fine - in fact PS runs much speedier in the 2nd user account than in my main account. I hadn't noticed how slow it had become in opening and saving.
    Any ideas of where to look in trying to repair my main account? I don't want to have to migrate everything over to the 2nd account. Bridge in the 2nd account doesn't allow me to open all my folders, so I'd prefer not to work totally with a new user account.
    PSCS3 10.0.1
    Mac 2GHZ dual 4.5 gig ram
    10 gig external scratch disk - PS running at 71%
    Mac OS X.4.11
    A day without Photoshop is like a day without sunshine ...
    Thanks

    A forced quit WILL create corruption.
    An Archive and Install of the OS will give you a fresh system in your regular account while preserving your settings. Should take you less than 45 minutes.
    But you may want to try deleting your Photoshop preferences and running the 10.4.11 update over your existing 10.4.11 system first. That may work too, and it would be faster.

  • Copying files either very slow or doesn't work at all

    I've tried copying files from a DVD to an external drive, and from one external drive to another, and I've been running into troubles on my Mac Pro, namely, I get an error code 36 (corrupted files) and the copying process hangs, requiring me to reboot. However, I was able to copy the files from the DVD to my laptop HD, so I don't think that corrupt files is the problem. After rebooting my Mac Pro, I was able to copy files from one external drive to another, but it was incredibly slow (about 1GB per hour), and I was still unable to copy files from the DVD to an external drive. I've verified all the disks with Disk Utility, and I've repaired disk permissions on my Mac Pro HD but apparently need to re-run since when I verify permissions again, I'm still getting a lot of errors or comments like "Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/rlogin" has been modified and will not be repaired". Scanning my Mac Pro HD for viruses, quite a few files are coming up with the comment "did not have permission to open the file." Other than continuing to repair disk permissions, does anyone have suggestions about what might be causing this and/or on possible next steps?

    A little further info - I checked permissions and I have permission to copy the files in question. Also, it seems that most of the errors that pop up when I verify permissions are of the type that can safely be ignored, according to Apple -- I'll go through the list later and cross-check them to make sure that they're all ignore-able, but thats what they appear to be.

  • Two issues: Runtime error when trying to Reduce Size or Optimize File. And navigation in some files is VERY SLOW.

    I haven't figured out if there is a pattern here, as of yet.
    This happens with larger files (1500 pages and so forth) and not all the time.
    - Bookmarks may take up to 4-5 seconds to go to its page.  Scrolling up and down pages is just as painfully slow.
    Even when I break the big file into smaller sections, the navigation remains slower than molasses.
    - When I try to Optimize certain files, or Reduce their size, I get a Runtime Error. I have disable the Updater (I read this could be an issue) but that made no difference.  I have also broken the larger files into 2 or 3 pieces.  One of the pieces may work out well (I can optimize and so forth) but the other(s) may not.
    Thank you.
    PS: I use Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3.  I have requested an upgrade (several times) but my wishes are not their command, I am afraid.

    HI ,Thanks for your response. That was an error in the code I posted, but wasn't the error I was trying to solve. Once correcting that error you pointed out I am getting the problems not when I send a plain text email like:
              if(!sendmultipart)
                 // send a plain text message
                 msg.setContent(msgText, "text/plain");
              }but when I try and send multipart messages doing this:
              else
                 // send a multipart message// create and fill the first message part
                       MimeBodyPart mbp1 = new MimeBodyPart();
         mbp1.setText(msgText);
          // create and fill the second message part
         MimeBodyPart mbp3 = new MimeBodyPart();
         // attach the file to the message
         FileDataSource fds = new FileDataSource(soundfile);
         mbp3.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(fds));
         mbp3.setFileName(fds.getName());
                       Multipart mp = new MimeMultipart();
         //adds the text to the message
          mp.addBodyPart(mbp1);
          //adds the attachment to the message
          mp.addBodyPart(mbp3);
           // adds the content to the message
          msg.setContent(mp);
         }So i get the error when executing the else branch.
    Can you spot any errors here? I get the same error as mentioned earlier.
    Thanks a lot,
    Jess

    Hi,
    Whether the issue occurs on using all systems (Windows 7/8/server) or only specific systems? Please test to access the same share folder on different computers to see the result.
    Also try to install the following hotfix on that server to see the result. If client systems are Windows 8/8.1/2012/2012 R2, install this hotfix as well.
