Saving Final Cut Pro on an external hard drive

Hi i was just wondering how you save a event from final cut pro on a external HD every time i do it it saves on my Macs SSD help.

Alternatively, if you are just creating an event, you can select the hard drive to use from the list at the top left corner of the Event Library.
In the shot below I clicked on the WD 2TB drive before selecting File>New Event, so the event was created on that hard drive.
Selecting where your projects go works in a similar way in the Project Library.

Final Cut Pro X and external hard drive problem

We are having trouble getting Final Cut Pro X to recoginse our external hard drive. It is works fine with i movie. We are very new to all of this and desperate for any help.
We have read a previous discussion that recommended we go to disk utilities and change format (currently saying windows ntfs) but worried if we either do "erase or partition 1 " we will erase everything off the external hard drive???

We only have the one hard drive and originally formatted it thinking we would use it on a windows computer. Is it strange that it is recognised on I Movie but not FC? If we change the format to MacOS Extended (journaled) we are worried if we apply this it will erase what we have (as says something about this)? We are non tech people and don't know what we are doing!!!

Final cut isn't recognizing external hard drives

Just bought new version of Final Cut and it will not recognize the external hard drive that I plug into my usb or the extra hard drive that I had installed into my laptop to do video work on for more space. What is the problem here?

My guess would be it has created an entirely new backup of your drive when you upgraded to Mavericks.

Photos and a few of the videos came over but i am missing the majority of the videos. Help please!!! I have tried omnidisksweeper with no success in finding them.
in my Usage it says i have over 40 gb of movies when i only have about 9gb which i can see using spotlight search. i really hope the other amount is my missing videos! these are videos of my kids as babies.

Read this post and do the migration again, putting the library in a portable shape first if necessary.

Also, now I can't add any music to my iPhone unless it was purchased recently through itunes and downloaded through icloud. I tried to "Organize" my library in hopes of correcting the problem but my iMac just ejects my external harddrive part way through. Please help!

Of what did your old Mac die?
It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere. Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.

If you move/copy your data back to internal drive, you should be able to add it to library, by clicking file add to library at the top of itunes.

ok - since you'll be sharing it with a PC - connect it to your windows pc - then format from there - instead of NTFS format - choose exFAT.

once you've formatted it - you can now use it in both your macbook and windows computer.

I wouldn't trust that backup.
Make sure the system is connected to AC and Do Over.

schmunzelmonster, greetings; Your suggestion is a good one. CCC does create a boot drive which as you point out can be most useful at times. Time Machine does not have that capability but it retains a history of activities and transactions that CCC does not. CCC only retains information as of the last update.
Neither individually is the 'perfect' backup solution individually, but if both are utilized it becomes that. There is no harm in backup redundancy.
My only complaint about CCC is that is is very slow in performing updates compared with Time Machine. Just a nit on my part.
