Saving from Photoshop back To Lightroom

I just did a little test. I have 2 collections for birds,  one regular collection that uses "bird" in the keyword as a criteria,  I'll call that Bird 1. Bird 2 is a smart collection that I have that  contains all the bird pictures that I 've done adjustments on in LR.
I edit a bird shot in photoshop that was taken from the Bird 2  (with LR adjustments) smart collection and make a small change to it in Photoshop then  save it using "Save" not "Save as". The newly photoshop adjusted photo  does not show up in the Bird 2 smart collection but does show up in the  Bird 1 collection next to the orginal. But, the copy that I adjusted in  Photoshop now has no icons on the bottom that indicate LR adjustments.  Since it has apparently stripped the indication of adjustments in LR  that would explain why it doesn't show in the smart collection.
If I've explained that correctly, do you think that's the way it's supposed to work?

When I include PSD in the rule it eliminates all the ones that don't have PSD in their file name. I go from 303 with this:

  • Saving photo from photoshop back to lightroom

I am trying to save my photo from photoshop back to lightroom and I keep getting an error that is "could not save because disk does not exist.  Anyone know how to fix this?

Has the file ever been imported into Lightroom?
Did you use the "edit in PS" function to send the file from Lightroom to PS for further editing?

  • How do you save from Photoshop back to iPhoto?

How do you save your external edits from Photoshop back to iPhoto?
Fine, I know how it can be done ONCE : you simply flatten the image and then hit Save, and you see your edited image in iPhoto.
But, what if you FIRST want to save the .psd document complete with layers outside iPhoto, THEN flatten the image and save as a jpeg back to iPhoto? I tried this yesterday. I saved as a PSD file - with all layers and a new name - to my Pictures folder. Then I flattened the image and wanted to save it to iPhoto, but the temporary iPhoto location had disappeared from the Photoshop Save dialogue and Photoshop now displayed it under the new name.
This is annoying : you've got to save the PSD document first in order to preserve the layers. But when you do this, you lose the ability to save the image a second time, all layers flattened, back to iPhoto.

But if I'd flattened the psd without saving it as a psd, I could simply have saved it back to iPhoto (I've done that before).
Hold on - perhaps that's the answer...
    What if..
    1. I flatten the image and Save it back to iPhoto, then ...
    2. Undo the 'flatten image' in Photoshop, then save THAT version as a psd?
I'll try this and let you know if it works.
ETA - Yay it works! Shoulda thought of that right off. I blame toothache

  • I cannot upload fotos from Photoshop Cs6 or Lightroom 5 to Wordpress

I cannot upload fotos from Photoshop Cs6 or Lightroom 5 to Wordpress whatsoever. When I export with lightroom 4 trial, no problem.
Social media marketing is an important part of my business as a photographer, so it is very important for me to make this work.
    Thank you for your help.
    - Reinhard

The uploaded file has 389kb... Wordpress accepts everything up till 1mb
error message (see image) is german saying 'bei dem upload ist ein fehler aufgetreten. Probier es später nochmal.' In english should by something like 'there was an error while uploading. Try again later.'
is definitely a adobe problem, because I tried the exact same foto with same export settings, and it works well with lightroom 4 as well as photoshop cs5, but neither lightroom 5 nor photoshop cs6...

  • Jpeg thumbnails too small when saved from Photoshop

Since moving to Snow Leopard, I notice that the Finder shows jpegs saved from Photoshop quite a bit smaller than jpegs saved using other apps, like Preview or just scanned images. This makes viewing the thumbnails in the Finder harder. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
I would post a screen grab to show this, but I can't see how to do that here. If anyone knows, please let me know.
    Thanks

That's because Photoshop creates its own rather smallish icons (by the new standards) for the files. If you remove custom thumbnails and let Finder draw them they'll be scalable all the way up to 512x512. There is a preference from within Photoshop to tell it to NOT create icons. Go to PS prefs, select Saving Files, and turn off Image Previews. The advantage is that the icons can be drawn larger; the disadvantage is that they will appear in Finder more slowly, since instead of simply displaying what is there Finder has to draw the icons. Furthermore, Finder doesn't always draw the icons with the clarity one would expect: sometimes they never do appear as sharp as they ought to be (there are several very lengthy threads discussing this problem, with no real solution), sometimes they slowly appear in all their large glory.
Oh, and to post a picture, as in my signature, you have to have the image available somewhere online, then add an image tag.

  • Images saving from Photoshop to Lightroom are saved way lighter

I first work on an image in Lightroom. Then, I sent a copy with LR edits to Photoshop where I continue to work on the image. When I am done editing in Photoshop and Save - the image goes back to LR, but the Photoshop Tiff copy in LR is far lighter than the image that was saved from editing in Photoshop. If I open the PS image from finder it looks fine - it is darker than the same file as seen in LR.

No problem. Waiting for a video rendering and upload to finish ;-)
If it is fixed in another account than it is highly likely that a develop preset or default gets applied to your images. This happens quite easily and has happened to me unknowingly too. Basically you would by accident have hit the Reset button in Develop while the option key was pressed. What you want to do is to go into Preferences->Presets and hit the button that says "Reset all default Develop settings". Then hit reset on your image. If none of that works, you can always trash the Lightroom preferences file. Quit out of Lightroom, go to the Finder. Hit command-Shift-G. Type ~/Library/Preferences/ in the display that you get to reveal the hidden by default preferences folder in your home account. Find the file that is called com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist (you might not see the plist extension on your computer) and drag that to the trash. Now start Lightroom again and your Lightroom should behave as if you just installed it. You might have to point it to your catalog file if it doesn't open with it there but with an empty catalog. File->Open Catalog-> select your main catalog.

  • Stop Lightroom from forcing "-edit" rename and saving in the same directory when saved from Photoshop

After opening a file from Lightroom 5 in photoshop, is there a way to disable the function that automatically saves a file back to Lightroom in the same folder, while adding the infuriating "-edit" to the filename? I keep my files in a very tight file structure, with DNGs, PSDs, and JPGs all neatly separated. It drives me batty that when I save a file it saves it in the same directory as the DNG. Why would anyone want this as a feature. STOP IT!
I know I can simply "Save As" but there has to be a way to turn this off.

I know you can have Lightroom change the appended "-edit" (via Preferences) to practically anything you'd like but as far as I know, it's all by design. Photoshop/Lightroom will always save a copy and leave your original files alone. To be honest, I'd want all my edits contained to where the original file was as well. As long as they're in the same folder, I'm happy.

  • Lightroom not updating when saved from Photoshop export

I just recently upgraded to Windows 7 x64, and had to reload both my Lightroom and CS4, and have just run into this issue when I export from Lightroom to Photoshop.  It used to work fine (with my previous installation in XP x64) that when I hit Ctrl+S in Photoshop it would immediately update the view of the file in LR.  This was extremely useful since i run two 24" calibrated LCDs, then I could immediately see in the lR monitor (usually at 50-100% zoom) if I liked my local adjustments (that are always zoomed to 300%+) in Photoshop wihtout having to change zoom level in Photoshop.  Now to get LR to show any Photoshop update after a Ctrl+S, I have to click back into LR and then move forward and backward (I use arrow keys) between images to get LR to update the display.  Any reason this would now be happening, is there some setting in LR to get it to detect the file save and change from Photoshop.
Any help or ideas appreciated, this is killing my edit time and frustration level!

I totally forgot about this issue.  You have to actually go set the Photoshop.exe file to be your second editor in LR preferences and then it will complain about PS being already setup, you select 'Use Anyway' and then when you right-click in LR and choose 'Edit In' select the 2ndary Photoshop editor you just setup and it will bring up the dialog about what settings to use for the image and then dump it into PS.  After that as you Ctrl+S in PS it will auto-update the display in LR.
    Self-Solved... hope this helps someone!

  • Help with upgrading from Photoshop Elements to Lightroom 3

Any tutorials/books/best practices on upgrading from PSE to LR 3? I have thousands and thousands of photos in PSE, and I'm sure the upgrade is not as transparent and smooth as Adobe promotes it to be.
Any suggestion, advice or past experience will be greatly appreciated.

here is a set of instructions on doing what you want.

    Import photos from Photoshop Elements
    Was this helpful?YesNo
Lightroom detects if your computer has a Photoshop Elements catalog and can import photos and data from the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom catalog. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 6 and later on Windows. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 9 on Mac OS.
Note: For help troubleshooting errors or problems when importing PSE catalogs into Lightroom, see the Adobe Support article Lightroom 3 cannot upgrade Photoshop Elements catalogs (cpsid_85517).
In the Library module, choose File > Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog. The Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog dialog box displays the most recently opened Photoshop Elements 6 (PSE6), Photoshop Elements 7 (PSE7), or Photoshop Elements 8 (PSE8), or Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) catalog.
To choose a different PSE catalog, click the Photoshop Elements drop-down menu.
To change the destination of the new Lightroom catalog, click Change and navigate to a different folder.
Click Upgrade to import the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom catalog.

  • I am getting errors upon use of JPG images, saved from Photoshop, in Encore.

How do I use Photoshop JPG images in Encore without errors?
When using camera jpg images, saved by Photoshop (either save, or image manipulation like autocolor then save, no other Photoshop options were tested), Encore will either :
    1) generate an image import error: "The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system.  Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem." and be unable to import the image,
    2) Image import stops before completion (Encore stops responding and must be Closed by Windows Task Manager), or
    3) with a number of images imported, upon attempts to create a Slideshow, Slideshow creation will stop while in progress, and Encore does not respond (Encore must be Closed by Windows Task Manager).
Import and Slideshow creation using untouched camera images is nominal and uneventful.
Import and Slideshow creation using PhotoShop(64bit) GIF (copy) images is nominal and uneventful.

The common cause of this issue is still image files where the pixel size is too large. This warranted its own help page, which is now a dead link.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/error-software-used-decode-media.html
But I assume the pixel size is the same whether you are processing them in Photoshop or not. but the main point is that the underlying problem is not about decoders. Encore encounters a problems dealing with the file and throws the only error it (apparently) has. So you are looking for anything like that: pixel size, changes between rgb and cmyk, extra metadata in files. Maybe even filename oddities (length, special characters).
I would look in part at what versions you are using and compatibility settings.
I would save them as png or psd.

  • Saving from Photoshop CS5 (5.5) extended to CS5 is it possible?

I am not finding this solution. Can anyone help? I have the trial version and created a few psd/psb documents but cannot open them on another machine that is running CS5. I used to be able to save to earlier versions previously from all Photoshop versions I have owned. Was there a change?

Sigh.  There was a bug in Photoshop 12.0.0 that could cause an error message like that.  If you update your copy of Photoshop to the current version, that problem should go away.
Beyond that, I don't know of any reason why you would get such a message going from Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.1) to Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4) Extended or not -- they're the same program, same binary, etc.
Really, there is nothing special to do, just save, and it is already compatible -- unless you failed to install an update and are still dealing with bugs that we fixed over a year ago.

  • Saving from ipod back to itunes

    Hello
I just changed my ipod nano for an ipod video, the ipod video has over 6000 songs on it, but my itunes playlists have just a few from what i had purchased for the nano.
When i connect the ipod video, can i save all the songs on the ipod back to itunes so that i don't lose any of the songs?
I'm worried when i connect the ipod video to itunes it will just wipe it and put the songs from itunes on it?

First of all try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

  • Lightroom changes reset after saving from photoshop

I'm using the most current version of Lightroom and Photoshop. In the past, I was able to edit in PS and when I'd save, the photo would update in Lightroom, preserving whatever changes I'd made in the develop module. For example, I do a lot of retouching, so I'll tweak general contrast and color in Lightroom, then export to Photoshop to clean up skin and other details. PS saves it as a .tiff which automatically stacks in LR with the original .dng file. So let's say I finished the retouch, then in LR I apply a light vignette or some grain to the .tiff file. Previously, if I ever decided to export this .tiff again into photoshop, when I would save and it would update in LR, the vignette and grain amounts would stay the same.
Now when I save in PS, when the photo updates in LR all the settings reset and I lose whatever changes I'd made (curves, grain, vignette, etc). Is there a setting I'm missing?

Please provide screenshots taken at View > 100% to illustrate the issue.
Where do you observe that degradation – in Photoshop itself or in some other application?

  • Saving from PhotoshopElements back to Aperture

    Hello,
I am using Photoshop Elements 10 as my external editor and I can directly open up the image in PSE when I select "edit using
photoshop elemnts" from Aperture.  That part is working perfectly.
However, when I finish editing the image and select "save" in PSE I can see that it's saving back to the Aperture folder structure,
but I do not see the updated image in Aperture.  All I see is the uneditied copy that Aperture made for export to PSE (I shoot in RAW),
and *not* the changes that made to it.
I got around this problem in iPhoto by saving my edited images to an external folder and then re-importing from that folder,
but the documentation suggests that this extra step is not needed for Aperture.  How do I get Aperture to reload the edits that
I made to the "for export to editor" version of the picture?
    Thank-you,
    Catherine

Yes, "Save over Current File", that is what I meant.
    Catherine,
that is puzzling. Have you tried to reprocess the thumbnails and previews after saving in Elements?
Select the edited image and use the command "Photos > Generate Thumbnails"   and "Photos > Update Previews"?
Sometime simply editing the photo in Aperture - add a slight crop or a touch with a brush will force Aperture to update the version and to show the edits.
This is the directory path that PSE is saving to:
    Pictures/Morocco_2013/Masters/2013/April 17, 2013
That path does not look right. Are your images managed or referenced? If they are managed, I'd expect a path like Pictures/Morocco_2013/Masters/2013/April/ 17/someweirdnumbercombination ....
The "comma" in the pathname could be problematic.  Is your project named this way?

  • After importing an image from cs5 back into lightroom, lightroom is making the image darker

Lightroom is making my images darker after i edit them in photoshop cs5 and I dont know why. When i open the image back into photoshop it looks fine. Even when i save it as a jpeg lightroom is making the image darker. When i imported the raw image into lightroom before i edited into photoshop it looked fine. Is there a way to fix lightroom?

    See screen shot:
Click on the two small triangles and under <Lightroom General Presets> select <Zeroed>. Sorry, it seems that the option <None> is not available anymore in Lr 4.3. But <Zeroed> has the same effect.
Alternatively, in the Develop Module, bottom right, just above the film strip click on <Reset>.  See screen shot:
