Saving Genius playlist in iTunes 11?

Does anyone know how to save a Genius playlist in the new iTunes 11?  I can make a genius playlist, but I cannot figure out how to save it.
Many thanks in advance.

Not sure how Apple intends users to get this done, but I found a way.  Once your genius list of song has played a bunch of the songs, you can look at your play lists and select the "smart" play list called "Recently Played".  Sort that list by "last played", then select them and drag them to a new play list that you've created.  They'll be in reverse order, but at least they'll be in a playlist you can now control.
Seems silly to me. There really ought to be an easy way to save a genius created play list that you are listening to.... It's pretty much not-genius that there's not an easy way to do this.  But until someone can explain how to do this with some built-in feature, this method will work for me for now.

With iTunes 11 on PCs the drop-down menus are hidden by default - control-B should get the menus to show

  • Order Of Saved Genius Playlist Not Syncing

By saving a Genius Playlist and then dragging it into a Playlist Folder, I am able to sync the playlist to my ipod. Only issue is that no matter what change I make to the playlist order within itunes (eg. sort by rating, or sort by artist), the order of the playlist on my ipod is always the original order of the Playlist. That is, the song the Genius Playlist was based on is always the first track. If I delete a track from the playlist within itunes, my ipod correctly removes it from the playlist but there is no syncing of the track order. Any ideas?

  • How do i create and save a genius playlist in iTunes 12?

I can see my genius playlists from older versions of iTunes but I can't figure out how to make a new one!

    Hi there Michael Moriconi,
You may find the information about Genius Playlists in the User Guide below helpful.
Use Genius Shuffle, Genius playlists, or Genius Mixes - iTunes Help
    Create a Genius playlist
Create a Genius playlist: Move the pointer over a song, click , and choose Create Genius Playlist.
Change the maximum number of songs in a Genius playlist: Click next to the song total and choose a number from the pop-up menu.
Get new songs based on the same song: Click Refresh .
A Genius playlist has this icon next to it.

  • New iPad won't save genius playlists to iCloud (iTunes Match)

    Hi,
Just received the new iPad.  One feature I was excited for in iOS 5.1 was the ability make and save genius mixes to iTunes Match so that I would have the mixes across iTunes, my iPhone, and my iPad.  However, when I make a genius mix on the new iPad utilizing iTunes Match, it makes it and I can save it normally, but there is then no way to delete it, and it doesn't show up in iTunes or on my iPhone.  However, when I use my iPhone running 5.1 to do the same thing, the saved genius playlist shows up in the iTunes and my iPad.  Essentially, this seems to be a bug exclusive to the iPad music app.
Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone have any workarounds?
    Thanks!

This may be a permissions issue. If you have never repaired permissions go to Utilities folder in Applications. Run Disk Utility do repair permissions on your volume until you get no more errors. You may have to do it more than once. Restart and try again.

  • ITunes Genius Playlists not synchronizing to iPod Classic

Does anyone know how to synch a saved Genius playlist to an iPod classic? Since iTunes 9, the saved Genius playlists are appearing under the Genius heading, not the playlist heading. Now, when I synch my iPod, these newly created Genius playlists are not synchronizing to my iPod. Am I doing something wrong, or will I now have to manually create a new playlist and copy the genius playlist into it???

Ok. I found that when it puts the newly created playlist under the genius heading and you want to save it under your playlists, you just click and drag it to the playlist heading and it will copy it there automatically, then synch to the iPod.

  • How To Add A Song To Genius Playlist?

I saved a Genius playlist. I deleted one song and tried to drag a different one into the saved playlist, but it won't go in. In fact I can't add any song. How do I add a song to a Genius playlist?
    Thanks in advance.

    HI Rod,
    Creating a Genius playlist
You can have iTunes create a playlist from songs in your library that go great together.
Before you can create a Genius playlist, you must turn on Genius (the instructions are included below). To turn on Genius, you must be connected to the Internet.
To create Genius playlists, iTunes uses anonymous information about your library and other iTunes libraries.
    To create a Genius playlist:
Select a song in your library and click the Genius button at the bottom of the iTunes window.
If you haven’t turned on Genius yet, click Turn On Genius.
Here are other things you can do:
To change the maximum number of songs in in a playlist, choose a number from the “Limit to” pop-up menu.
To save a playlist, click Save Playlist. You can add and remove items from a saved Genius playlist.
To get new songs for a Genius playlist (basing it on the same song), click Refresh.
While listening to Party Shuffle, choose Genius as the source (under Playlists) to create a Genius playlist that refreshes itself automatically.
Turning on Genius also displays the Genius sidebar, which shows items related to the selected song but not in your library. Use the sidebar to preview and download new music from the iTunes Store.
To turn off Genius, choose Store > Turn Off Genius.
    * Make sure you did this before adding tracks to the Genius Bar: *To change the maximum number of songs in in a playlist, choose a number from the “Limit to” pop-up menu.*
    See if that helps...

  • Duplicate Genius Playlists

Duplicate Genius Playlists: continue to appear  in my itunes library as I delete them they eventually come back again  eg: Crystal Silence..this would contain about 25 songs that relate to that music genre and jazz tone..they do not appear as dups when I open the iphone however.they will apear as Crystal Silence 2..any ideas

Creation of a Genius playlist is available on the new iPod Nano's and iPod Touch with v2.1 installed. Previous generation of the iPod do not support this feature directly on the iPod.
You can of course create the Genius playlist in iTunes 8, and sync that list to your iPod.

  • Will the 2.1 update have the genius playlist thing?

I thought I read the iPod touch does but I couldn't find anything on the iPhone version. Thanks

Hi all, I was tearing my hair out as well, but there is an easy (though messy) workaround. I have an iPhone 3G with 2.1 installed, but it should work for everyone.
    1. Turn Genius off (Store, Turn Off Genius)....note that this will change any Genius Playlists you have created so far into normal ones.
    2. Turn Genius back on. This will resend everything to and from Apple again, so go and make yourself a coffee!
    3. When it's all up and running again, create a new Genius Playlist in iTunes, and copy this to your iPhone or Ipod Touch.
    4. Sync your device.
    5. Open Playlists, and the first item should now be the Genius Menu, and you should see your Genius Playlist in the Playlists.
I hope this helps you all out. Cheers from Down Under.

  • Genius WITHOUT iPod-iTunes sync??

I recently purchased a new iPod Classic 160G and couldn't be happier. After hours of work, I've finished transferring 60G worth of music onto it. My question now is about the Genius feature.
I do not sync my iPod with iTunes. In other words, my laptop's harddrive does not have copies of all my iPod songs. In the agreement of the Genius program, however, it says that in order to use Genius "You must sync with your iTunes library after you have opted-in on iTunes to enable the Genius feature on a device".
In other words, in order to use Genius my iPod songs would have to mirror the songs on my iTunes, right? In other words, if I attempted to use Genius with my iPod, then it would effectively erase the 60G of music on my iPod, because I don't have those songs sync'd up with my laptop's iTunes? Right?
Or is this a softer use of the term "sync"? I know that sometimes my iPod will say that it's "syncing" when all that's really happening is that iTunes is reading it in order to display the songs. Or else it may say "syncing" when I'm manually transferring to my iPod a song that I've temporarily placed in iTunes (which I erase from my harddrive afterwards).
I'd appreciate any clarification anyone could give me. I REALLY don't want to lose all my music. My guess is that I CAN'T use Genius on my iPod unless I have a copy of every iPod song on my harddrive as well...

    Hi flapjaxx
I had the exact same problem as you seeing as I keep all my music on an external hardrive and not on my pc. However, I've found a way around it.
Basically, just put all your music back into your itunes library and activate genius, then connect your ipod and untick "manually manage music". Sync your ipod with your itunes once and then your ipod should be able to use genius. Once this is done you can just tick "manually manage music" again and delete all the music back off of your computer. I would assume that if you added anymore music to your ipod though, you would have to repeat the process to include those new tracks in the genius listing.
This process worked for me so it should be fine for you too, to be safe I created a genius playlist on itunes and synced it with my ipod first before I ticked "manually manage music" again.
If you dont have your music collection anywhere but on your ipod then all you need to do is plug your ipod into your computer, access the hard drive from "my computer" go to folder and search options and select "show hidden files and folders" you should then get a folder called "ipod control" showing up. In here there will be another folder called "music" which will have all the tracks and movies off your ipod but they will be listed in random folders named f01, f02 e.t.c and the files themselves will be listed like "NVXC" and similar variations. All you need to do is drag the whole "music" folder into your itunes library and it will sort out all the videos and music for you. This is for pc though, im not sure how you would do this on a mac...
Sorry about the essay, hope this helps.

  • Genius playlist appears blank when sync'd to iPod - fixable?

I create a Genius playlist using iTunes 10.5.1.42 (Windows) based on Beegie Adair's "Take The A Train" from album Songs of Duke Ellington. I save the playlist in iTunes. I sync (entire music library) to my iPod Touch (4th Gen), iOS 5.0.1. The playlist name "Take The A Train" appears in the iPod Playlists, but upon inspecting its content, the lines are all blank!
"Edit/Refresh/Delete" buttons appear on the top of this playlist's content. If you tap one of the blank lines, one of the songs in the playlist starts to play, album cover and song info are displayed normally. The basis for the playlist, "Take The A Train" by Adair, is not in the playlist on the iPod; it is not the first song.
    Fixes I tried:
Delete playlist on iPod, reset iPod, delete playlist on iTunes, reboot computer: the problem is readily re-created.
Updated Genius data in iTunes/Windows and re-sync'd, with no improvement.
    Notes:
Syncing iPod Touch produces message "Syncing Genius Data... copying xx of 70" every time even when nothing has changed in iTunes/Windows.
Other playlists from the same Beegie Adair album can be created and they sync properly.
Selecting the song on the iPod and attempting to generate a Genius playlist produces "This song does not have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist", though Genius playlist based on this song can be created on iTunes/Windows, and can be created for apparently any other song on iPod.
This playlist syncs, appears and works properly on older iPod 4th Gen (Click Wheel, 40GB), ver. 3.1.1

Trying to resolve the coverflow crash (crashing Music app, crashing the iPod) even when no music is playing, I finally told iTunes to not sync music and sync'd the iPod Touch 4th Gen, erasing all music from it. Then told iTunes to sync all the music and let the iPod Touch resync.
This resync did solve the problem of the blank Genius playlist.
This resync did not solve the coverflow crash problems, however.

  • ITunes 11: How to create a genius playlist without saving it?

In iTunes 11, how can I create a genius playlist without saving it? This was possible in iTunes 10; I could select a song, hit the Genius button to create a genius playlist based off that song, then if I wanted to, I could click a "Save" button to save the playlist. Otherwise, by default the genius playlist would be overwritten the next time I chose "genius" on a different song.

In the "carrot menu" next to each song, I see an option to "Start Genius."
When I select that, the list of songs in my Up Next list changes, but there's no "real place" to see the Genius List like the Genius list in the previous version of iTunes. If you select this from a song that's not currently playing, it will start to play (as in the prev itunes).
I echo your frustration here. So many things seem to be half-way between one model and another.
