Saving .ico files from PE10?

Hi
I downloaded and installed a copy of Photoshop Elements 10 to run in Windows 8, because it won't let me run my CS3 which is installed in Windows 7 unless I deregister it first.
My problem is that after installing the pluggin when I try and save an Icon (.ico) file it always says "Could not save D:\...\Explorer "name of flile" .ico because of a disk error".
I can save in any other format with no problem, the file is't too big I do this a lot in my other Photoshop installation.
I also notice that when I open the save window I can not see the other .ico files in the folder, which I'm pretty sure I can when I open it with Photoshop CS3.
Anyone have any idea what's going on here?
Also are all pluggings created equal?
I just downloaded this on from some place at random, is there a recommnended site to get these things.
I tried to find a place to get it from Adobe but no luck when I searched their site.
Is there an Adobe source for pluggins?
Thanks for the help,
Mike

Hi
Just recently I  had to restore my computer to it's original configuration.
At that time I reinstalled all the Adobe software and had to reauthorize it.
It was on the same computer but it's possible that it saw that as a second installation I suppose.
I did have some of this software installed on my previous computer, but officially removed  it when I moved it to my present computer.
I tried running the software from Windows 8 in it's original location as well, while most of my software, things like Poser, and even Premiere Elements 10 would run without being installed in 8, but my Adobe Graphics Arts software would not.
I have Photoshop Elements 10 installed now so I'll stick with it and give it to a friend when I go back to working in Windows 7.
By the way, I really like Windwos 8 now that I've figured out how to use it without the Start Page,
It's now a lot differet the Widows 7 but doess run faster on my computer and boot times are great, about 40 seconds on my computer with all my fonts and sofware installed.
And has some nice feature like the built in merge application when you copy and paste to a folder with common files.
Thanks for the help.

  • Open .ico files from Bridge CS4

    Hey all,
    I just got done reformatting my hard drive. After reinstalling my Adobe CS4 software, I can't open .ico files from Bridge -- before the hard drive reformat I COULD open .ico files from Bridge. I can open .ico files directly from Photoshop (I've got the telegraphics.com/au .ico plugin installed in Photoshop to open and save .ico files.)
    If I right-click an .ico file in Bridge and select "Open With" the only option is: COM Surrogate 6.1 (default).
    Looking at Preferences > File Type Associations, .ico file type isn't available in the file type list. Anyone know what setting or preference I need to change to open .ico files in Bridge?
    Appreciate your help,
    Brian

    Never mind... I closed Bridge by selecting File > Exit (instead of clicking the close button in the upper-right of the program window) and after restarting I'm able to open the .ico files.

  • Folders for saving imported files - "From Files or Folders"?

    When I "get" photos into PSE 10 from my camera or card reader, I have the option of saving each photo to a folder named after the shot date. I can also delete the original once it has been copied to my PC. Is there a way to do the same thing for photos imported using "Get Photos > From Files or Folders"? When I use the From Files and Folders route, the file organization scheme is entirely different and I would like to use the same storage organization that applies when I "get" photos from my camera or card reader.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Warning !
    There is a big difference between getting files from camera or card reader (this implies a copy from the camera or card reader to your computer) and getting files from files and folders (already present in your computer). In the last case there is no copy (no download), just a recording in the database of the real location of the files already in your computer.
    You can delete the original in the first case : it has been transferred to your computer by the downloader module. In the second case, there is no copy and the catalog is only a list of the files and their  location (paths) on your computer drive. Deleting originals will delete all.
    If you want to organize your already present folders in a similar date scheme at the default option of the downloader, you'll have to move or rename existing files and folders. The only way to do this would be to do the moves and renaming from the organizer itself, not from the explorer. A lot of work, and totally useless if you use the right tools like tags, categories or albums.

  • Saving PDF files from illustrator

    Hi
    Can anybody help we are having an issue with illustrator cs3 and cs4 when saving pdf files
    as you can see this is the file in illustrator and the images butt togeather with a black line down the middle when we then save the pdf and we have tried different options it moves the image, the images are placed eps images. This is not file specific as we have tried other files/images.
    Can anybody help

    Yes I think I understand the problem and I believe it is expected behavior and I will explain.
    You must convert the images to cmyk in photoshop first before placing them in Illustrator or convert them after but since they are linked the conversion has to take place in photoshop by using the link panel to edit the original.
    Now it should work as expected but I did this without the using a black key line on the rectangle I used for my clipping so once you have the rectangles position if you still find you have this problem then go bak and redo the clipping mask without the black stroke.
    This is my result in Acrobat with the images converted to cmyk so I am positive you stated with RGB and did not convert before placing.
    As you can at 6400% magnification it is fine. This is the top edge of the two butted images when saved as pdf after converting the files to cmyk in Photoshop. PDX 1a supports CMYK.
    This is what it looks like when using the inked files when they are rgb

  • Saving QTVR files from Safari

    Hi to everybody!
    I have a question regarding saving virtual panoramas QTVR from Internet. I used to get this message, that I need to upgrade to QT Pro in order to be able to save these files. So I shelled out the money and I succeeded twice, but most of the time there is no way for me to save the file.
    Is there any trick?
    I am using Safari as a browser.
    Thank you,
    Tomek
    Regards
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    I went to http://www.expedia.com but couldn't find any reference on the page to "virtual tour"
    So I googled, "virtual tour" site:expedia.com and got this page:
    http://www.expedia.com/daily/deals/FiveStarFantasies/default.asp?rfrr=-35056
    I scrolled down to:
    Mandarin Oriental San Francisco
    Take a virtual tour ( JavaScript:S3D('http://display.maxvr.com/expedia/propertymap.asp?hotelid=6505', 450,575) )
    Which opened a new window for:
    http://display.maxvr.com/expedia/propertymap.asp?hotelid=6505&lang=1033
    And the window was completely white, nothing playing, no source.
    So I went to:
    http://www.maxvr.com/visitorsample.asp
    And the panoramas there all play fine (in Java)
    I repeated step 2 onward in Windows XP Pro with the same result, the expedia.com tours resulted in white windows with no source while the maxvr.com page worked fine. Perhaps expedia.com forgot to pay maxvr.com? I dunno.

  • Error while working and saving .PDF files from Illustrator CS 5.1

    One of my partners has been facing issues while working with Adobe Illustrator PDF Files, especially while saving them. We've lost so many hours of work with these errors. We own an early 2009 iMac (MB418LL/A) running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). You can see the specs in this link:
    iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 24-Inch (Early 2009) Specs (Early 2009, MB418LL/A, iMac9,1, A1225, 2267) @ EveryMac.com.
    She works with vectors and images, most of the time. At the moment, working on a Letter sheet sized magazine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    This is the error shown: http://txs.io/Xnrb

    Alvin,
    Just to make sure: Where are you/is she saving?
    Here it is always recommended to open/save AI documents from/to own harddisk, and to only copy from/to externals such as local server/whatever.
    The reason is that with the latter, AI files tend to get corrupted sooner or later, so you may be lucky for a while but it hurts when your luck runs out.

  • Saving a file from a website to the local drive

    From New To Java thread - nobody knew the answer, i guess! :(
    Hi people,
    I have a number of URLs at hand that point to certain class files, e.g.
    http://www.mywebsite.com/classes/MyClass.class
    What i would like to do is to download MyClass.class into a temporary folder (or wherever) on the local disk. Does anyone know how to do this? I've read about HttpURLConnection etc., but its all very confusing!
    Cheers,
    JG

    u can do
    URL url = new URL("http://www.mywebsite.com/classes/MyClass.class");
    InputStream in = url.openStream();
    then do a loop of reading the bytes in, and writing them out to some FileOutputStream
    asjf

  • Trouble saving m4v files from iTunes

    I purchased a music video from iTunes that I want to edit. I have the latest version of Quicktime (plus Quicktime Pro7), which allows me to edit, but not to save or export the file. I would love to resave the file as a .mov but it won't let me (at least that way I could edit it in iMovie). If this were a pure audio file, I'd burn it to disc and then re-import it onto my hard drive for editing (removing the protection), but when I tried to burn the Video in iTunes, it wouldn't let me!
    Any ideas?

    Derek, welcome to these discussions.
    The terms of use for your purchased videos don't allow modifying the file. They are "protected" using the same scheme used in the music downloads.
    You'll need to find a different source of the file (or violate the laws regarding copyright).

  • Problems loading and saving pdf files from sites with latest version.

    On my utilities I wish to download and save pdf files of my e-bill.
    Lately when I click on getting bill, Firefox opens new tab and stops.
    with a light message in url place saying "Type a web address".
    To get around this I must do a right click on the save bill and
    select open in new window, then it opens a new copy of Firefox,
    and two tabs, with the second one asking me to use Adobe to see
    pdf file. I tell it to open and then save it and print it from the tab
    that opens with the pdf file in it. This never happened before was
    always able to just click on link and it would open new tab with
    pdf file there.

    Thanks for the replies. I don't think I was clear enough with my question.
    What I want to be able to do is to click on a PDF file in my Firefox browser and be able to save it as an Adobe PDF file, not a Preview PDF file, in any folder on my computer, rather than just the specified default location for downloads. This way I can save, for example, phone bills in the phone bills folder and bank statements in the bank statements folder without having to save them to the desktop, "Get Info" on each, and change the "Open with:" box from Preview to Adobe Reader.
    Fortunately, thanks to Michael's post, I found an add-on from Firefox that allows me to do just that: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/636
    Thanks for your help. Now, within my Firefox browser, I can choose whether to view or download PDF files, always in Adobe rather than Preview, and when I save them I get the option to choose the location each and every time.

  • I have a problem when cropping 8 but tiff files in elements 12. Once area is selected and I crop the image it disappears. The file no. sill shows but the image is not viewable. I have saved the file from that point and tries reopening but the image isn't

    Has anyone experienced this before ? I have previously been able to crop images with no problem. Recently when I open an image and crop it and confirm the action the image 'disappears' If I save and go to reopen the file is there but it will be  zero meg in size.

    Hi,
    Try resetting the crop tool.
    To the right of the tool option bar, click on the little horizontal lines and you should see reset tool option.
    Good luck

  • Setting PDFCompatibility not working when saving a file from the API

    Hi,
    I am trying to save a PDF file using version 1.3 compatibility using the CS3 API. I am flexible to which Action I use. Right now I am trying to use kAISaveDocumentAsAction.
    According to AIPDFFormatAction.h, I can set kAIPDFCompatibilityKey to kAIPDFCompatibility13. However, that same header file indicates that these keys should be used with the kAIExportDocumentAction, not the kAISaveDocumentAsAction.
    Not surprisingly, the SaveAs Action works, but saves a PDF in version 1.5 (probably not checking the kAIPDFCompatibilityKey).
    I have tried using the kAIExportDocumentAction instead... However, in CS3, the Export action does not support PDF as an output type. Maybe in earlier versions this was different.
    Can anyone help? Below is the current code I am using that produces a PDF, but not a version 1.3 PDF.
    AIActionParamValueRef valueParameterBlock = NULL;
    ActionDialogStatus dialogStatus = kDialogNone;
    int result = 0;
    result = sAIActionManager->AINewActionParamValue(&valueParameterBlock);
    if (valueParameterBlock) {
    result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetString(valueParameterBlock, kAISaveDocumentAsNameKey, outputfilename_final);
    result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetString(valueParameterBlock, kAISaveDocumentAsFormatKey, kAIPDFFileFormat);
    result = sAIActionManager->AIActionSetInteger(valueParameterBlock, kAIPDFCompatibilityKey, kAIPDFCompatibility13);
    result = sAIActionManager->PlayActionEvent(kAISaveDocumentAsAction, kDialogOff, valueParameterBlock);
    result = sAIActionManager->AIDeleteActionParamValue(valueParameterBlock);

    Hi,
    You can try to right-click and '''Reset''' the '''browser.download.lastDir''' key in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config].
