Saving imovie as backup

Ty Lennart for last response.
How can I save Imovie to backup CD so I can come back and use specific clips in the future. ie baby movies that I want to combine as 1 movie.

You can use iMovie's backup feature (File menu) and burn a 2 minute (plus) project on a CD or a 20 minute (plus) project on a DVD.
Otherwise you can export (Share) the selected clips as Full Quality DV and burn those files on a CD or DVD.

I'm worried about what will happen if I delete my recent backup data from the phone I still own? Will I lose any progress in games that was saved in the backup?
I have an iPhone 4S and I keep getting those irritating notifications that tell me I need to upgrade my storage or free up space. I've deleted all I can from my music and photos without losing too many precious memories, but it's come to the point where I think I need to delete backups. However, I'm just worried that I will lose all and any log-in information that I don't remember and app/game progress that was saved to the iCloud. Please Tell me what will happen/what I can do?

If you are asking what happens when you delete an iCloud backup, it only deletes the backup from your account.  It won't do anything to the data on your phone or in your iCloud account.  If you don't need to backup you can delete it.  (If you no longer want to back up your phone to iCloud, turn iCloud backup off in Settings>iCloud>Backup.  Then your phone will back up to your computer each time you sync it with iTunes.)

  • If I purchase a Mac can I convert my PC files saved on a backup to my Mac?

If I buy a Mac, can I convert my PC files, folder, saved on a backup to my Mac

Did you use a backup program?  The backup program could have saved the data in some funny way.
If you copied them  with Windows copy  & paste or drag & drop,  you will be able to read the files on the mac.  You can run Windows on the new Macs.
What type of files are we talking about?  Microsoft has office for the Mac. Word, Excel, Powerpoint files are supported.

  • What file name, are old emails saved under in backups?

Time Machine, does not seem to operate properly, past the date when I clean installed Yosemite. My files are all there, but I can only find them by going into my drive, and either searching for the file in Time Machine, or searching for it in my backup drive. I cannot restore a mail file, by opening mail, and time machine. It works fine up until the date, when I installed Yosemite. I have done 2 different  completely clean installs, and one using migration assistant, wt a multitude of problems. I am done wt doing that. My iMac is finally running smoothly, and I have managed to migrate everything back into my iMac, except for my old emails. I'm pretty sure that I could restore my emails, as long as I knew where there there supposed to be stored on my iMac. I could basically restore them, by either looking in my backup drive where they are before I installed Yosemite. What file name, are old Maverick emails saved under in backups?

The information viewed in Contacts is not located in a single file, nor a single directory.
[Copied from another thread I responded to recently:

This MIGHT be include all the files you need, but there might also be Preferences files needed from another directory.
Also, I migrated my data from an older OS X version (10.6.8) where the app was called Address Book. On brand new systems, it is called Contacts, and the correct directory might be named Contacts.
NOTE: Be sure to replace Macintosh HD below with the actual hard drive name if not Macintosh HD, and username below with the actual user's name...
Transfer all the files from Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
That WILL INCLUDE each of these three subdirectories where the necessary files and data are stored:
    Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/images
    Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
    Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources

  • FireFox STOPS saving session store backup!

For a few years it's a VERY BIG problem with FireFox!
It STOPs session saving after a while.
IT IS NOT a plugin problem!
IT IS NOT a settings problem!
IT IS NOT a my stupidity problem!
IT IS SERIOUS PROBLEM in FIREFOX CODE!
I do use Firefox..... NO! I do use all the mainstream browsers since first versions of Netscape and IE born!
In my PCs all 5 current mainstream browsers are installed - IE, FF, Chrome, Opera and Safari (for Win)
All these browsers have their own pros and contras and all they are in use concurrently or momentarily.
Mostly used are FF and Opera. Chrome is less used (due to its extremal privacy violation). IE is used for particular purposes primarily ActiveX related, and Safari is rarely used for checking compatibility.
    I'm using FF since v!.x or 2.x
I have 14 FF profiles in my FF AppData folder and I KNOW WTF I SAY!
I can't particularly remember what FF version was firstly appeared to be fault, but it was i long ago. A few years ago. I can definitely say it wasn't some of stable 3.x versions.
Usually I have hundreds of tabs opened at the moment. (Maximum counted is about 370 and it was Opera 9.x on the PC w/1.5GB of RAM)
It's not a 'quantity' game. I do read hundreds of pages every day and forced to open more and more tabs looking for additional info. I can't close many tabs before I will have complete problem description in my mind and can point and save just a valuable info, which really helps to solve problem. Frequently I should solve a few problems at the same time. While some info is inaccessible or not yet found I switch to another problem and trying to solve it. It's a job and creative process.
I was very discouraged when I lost a few hundreds of tabs 1st time (since great recovery options first time appeared in browsers). I thought the problem is random, later I thought the problem will be solved in the next releases of FF because it's unbelievable that millions of peoples in the world are using FF and no one have reported such a serious bug. Later I just tried to save sessionstore files manually in the middle of work. I don't like to complain neither ask for help. At first I do my own research and trying to help others with many complicated things. But this problem too complicated for me. FF's sources should occupy a few hundred megs. I should spend at least months to explore code w/o any warranty I could fix the problem. It's too expensive... People who develop this code can fix it many times faster end easier.
When I saw FF changed session recovery format (which means for me complete module rework) about a year ago and hoped the problem will now should be completely resolved, but NO! It was not resolved in any way.
I'd experienced this problem ALWAYS with any version of FF (for at least a few years), on ANY PC (I have a few decades) and any modern Windows OS (XP/V/7/32/64/etc), with a 500MB profile with a few plugins installed and with completely new and clear default profile!
Just try yourself. Setup new profile and work a few days or weeks on any theme(s). Do not close tabs (at least ones, which you wanna explore once more). If your PC has 2-4Gb of RAM you will notice FF stopped to save session info after you will have a 50-100 tabs opened (you'll see sessionstore.js or session-backups\*.js script files reached 15-20-30MB long and stopped to change and it's LastMod date/time(s) are frozen) and after the moment some stupid most probably Ad-related and most probably "Java related" script will hang your FF you will notice all recent tabs (opened a few minutes or a few days ago) gone from recovery.
I just lost a two days of hard work in a 100-200 tabs related on rare player HW/SW recovery and modding (but God saved a few hundred of previous tabs related to some mobile hacking). I've noticed FF started to hang more and more and checked previous.js, recovery.bak, recovery.js was last modified on Apr, 14 but today is Apr, 16! I've lost one more hour trying to save tabs, even installed Session Manager, promised session saving on user demand but after a half hour of action against hanging FF, plugin showed me that I have NO ONE tab to save. I've managed to copy a few URLs to the text file before FF have completely fallen.
FF is less RAM consuming but more exposed to CPU overload than WebKit based Chrome and Opera. Safari for Win is just a bunch of bugs. Old Presto based Opera was really fast and resource effective but it was dropped due to "technology" requirements. Chrome and Opera save session info reliable (only rare random problems could occur), but they fall sooner because of RAM overload. And certainly FF has best plugin collection which overcomes Crome's and especially Opera's.
On other hand Opera has integrated Session manager and you can save all or particular tabs and windows at any moment.
Sure such feature should be integrated to all browsers. It should be reliable, made at native C level, not at limited and unreliable JS/plugin level as it done in FF Session Manager plugin. User should have an option to save his work at any moment and in any situation, then open it anywhere. Cloud sync can not be offered as the only option. There are many security related objects around and I will never send them (by my will) to any clouds except ones made and completely controlled by me or my structure. I've enough hardware, knowledge and other resources to save my data on my own storage. :)
On my hand today there are too much "technologies" around. That's ENOUGH!
Reliability and resource economy should be preferred as the main goal!
If someone of devs is ready to spend enough time and fix this really annoying and resource consuming issue feel free to contact me and tell me what logs to collect on event.
P.S. It's time to appear some JS-ProcessExplorer (executed scripts manager) for Browser. Scripts became too powerful, resource expensive and aggressive.
AdBlock can't eliminate all (btw it's main goal is Ads).
There should be the way to explore and kill particular scripts by hand, ones which hang and other way disturb stability of browser and user's work! I see no other way out.

Okay, that's a lot of information. I think the key part for support purposes is this:

You're not the first person to report that the sessionstore.js or recovery.js file stopped updating with new activity. However, it's rare enough that I can't recall whether we have gotten to the bottom of it in a previous thread. I'll see whether I can search it up.
Meanwhile, someone might be able to come up with a way to watch for problems and extract some debug information, but I'm not personally familiar with such tools.

  • Is there a way to backup my iPod to a backup that wasn't the last one saved?  I backup to my computer, not iCloud.

I restored my iPod Touch 4 without meaning to, and when I tried to restore it to the backup (where all my pics and music are) it restored it blank.  Is it possible to restore it to an earlier save?  I can't find the location on my computer where the backups are saved, so it's apparently just with whatever settings are loaded into iTunes.  Any help would be great!

No. I'm sorry. But, i think it uses the headphones as an antenna so it has to be plugged in to headphones in order to make it work. but, it burns the battery down so i don't use the radio function that much.

  • Can Quicktime Updates interfere with saved iMovie projects?

    Hello.
I'm just about to do an update to the latest Quicktime and I wondered if these updates can cause any problems with iMovie projects that have been made and saved on my computer with older Quicktime versions?
    Thanks
    Rich

    Thanks Bengt,
But how about after a project is fully completed and burned to DVD but still remaining stored on the computer as a final iMovie project. In case you want to burn it again or just play it on the computer, will that original iMovie on the computer be confused by a newer Quicktime Update? I have all mine still saved as both disc images and also the original project. I know a disc image will not be affected but I was curious about the original project?

  • IMovie Events backup

I want to make space on my harddrive.  How do I burn Clips from my Events to DVD as a backup so that I can delete certain Events?
    Thanks

dv has 13GBs/h .. so a DVD-r(w) fits about ~20min only.. and, in case you need the 'backup', you have to transfer all files back to a harddrive, because iMovie can not work directly from dvd-r(w) media.
consider the purchase of a nice ext. Harddrive (today in the ads: 500Gigs for only 55€!) and let Timemachine, your backup feature of 10.5., automatically do its job..

  • Saving imovie projects in itunes

I've created an imovie project from the app on my ipad2 and saved it in itunes but now my macbookpro won't open it in imovie from the itunes account. How can I use the project saved in itunes on other devices? Is there a way to burn a dvd of the project from the macbook pro?

iMovie projects are actually "packages". These packages appear as if they are one single document, but in fact they're more like a folder. If you right-click or control-click on an iMovie project, you'll see an option to "show package contents". Then, inside the project you'll see all the individual files. Would you want to browse through the individual files in that folder with Front Row? Probably not. All of the organization and editing you've done in iMovie is not reflected in the individual files there. While this organization method works for iMovie, it doesn't really help Front Row. To play music, Front Row opens iTunes in the background. To play movies/videos, Front Row plays the files through QuickTime. It might be nice to have an option to view iMovie projects by having iMovie open in the background. You might send Apple some Mac OS X feedback about that option:

  • Saved iMovie projects not showing up in iDVD's Media compartment

    Hello Everyone,
I recently created 2 projects in iMovie. After saving them at full quality they are showing up in my Movies folder, however, when I begin an iDVD project neither is showing up in iDVD's Media compartment (under "Custom"). I'm baffled. Can anyone out there shed some light on this? Perhaps I am saving them incorrectly?

Figured it out...Went under "File > Import > Movies" in iDVD. The movies showed up when I did that. Still don't understand why they don't show up under "Media." Everything worked beautifully after that.

  • Imovie 11 backup help

i'm really confused about how to properly back up an imovie. I do have time machine however i would like to create a permanent backup of a project on an external drive and can't figure out the proper way to do it. thanks!
    B

First requirement is an external hard drive. So your Time Machine hard drive will probably work. Always remember, make sure your external hard drive is formatted as a Mac OS Extended. If you don't know what format it is, go to your Mac's Desktop. Hold down the CTRL Key and click on the Hard drive icon. Choose > Get Info:
If it isn't already formatted that way you will want to erase the hard drive using Disk Utility which is in the Applications > Utilities folder on your Macintosh's hard drive. Once Disk Utility is open, click on the icon for your External Hard Drive. Click the Erase tab at the top, and there's a pull-down menu titled Format: Click that pulldown menu and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Erase... button:
After the hard drive has been reformatted, go back to iMovie to View Menu > Group Events by Disk:
You should see your external hard drive in the Events Library. It will allow you to drag any Event onto that icon. Just Move the Events to the External Harddrive. Also, the hard drive will also appear in the list at the top, in the Project Library too. If you want to copy a Project to the hard drive, drag it from where it is now in the Project Library to the external hard drive icon. A dialog box will appear:
You will want to copy the project and the Events to the hard drive. Once they are safely copied over, test them to make sure the open properly and you can see the video, and everything plays. Then you can delete the original project from your iMovie Project Library. If all you want to do is just move it all at once instead of first copying and then deleting, drag while holding down the ⌘-Command key, which will bring up this dialog instead:
*Note: When you move the Projects/Events, they will be deleted from the original location when copied to the new location. But the projects will all work properly as all the Event clips used will be in the same spot. And it should all 'just work'
Keeping the Projects/Events you have finished on the external hard drive together in the same location will keep everything working properly. No lost clips or missing sound. Moving a Project might be a good last step at the end when it's finished. That way you can archive a Project with all the Events used inside the project.

  • Saving imove to Quicktime

I'm trying to save my daughter's science project in a format I can transfer to another MAC other than CD or DVD, because my burner is dead. So, I opted for converting it to QuickTime and am hoping it will transfer on a memory stick. However, saving it in "Share" for compressiom on CD-ROM is playing back in horrible quality--it's pixelating even in the small screen, let alone going full screen, which we want to do. Is this a problem on the saving end or on the playback end? If saving it with "expert" settings makes a difference, what settings do you recommend? Her teacher wants to run it through a projector. She spent so many hours editing, that I want her to show it with pride! HELP!

    Hi jagwiz:
    Welcome to discussions!
Sounds like a labor of love...
Would it be possible for you to share it back to a DV camera? Then you could transfer it really easily to another mac's imovie (be sure it is the same version just to be safe).
Also-remember that the resolution on a TV is better than your monitor.
    Here's another thing to read...
