Saving in InDesign CS6

When I'm working on a project in InDesign CS6 I sometimes can't 'save' it. I even cant' use 'save as' at that moment. By closing the leaflet it askes if I want to save the project, but also won't save. Is this a bug in InDesign CS6?

Some new information this morning from the other user:
Hi Peter, I just wanted to give you an udate in case it helps others: the problem returned, and I tried creating a new profile on my machine and running it that way, to see if it was just the prefs or my profile. Although i could save etc I then couldn't PDF anything without errors, so went back to my original profile. I reinstalled Acrobat in case that was the culprit, but no difference.
SO, I had a rethink and removed Magic Prefs which was running in the background, and also turned off Allow Multiple Gestures in Indesign prefs. So far all stable, and working well on big files across CS6, so hopefullly this has proved to be the fix.
Kind regards and thanks again for all your help and quick responses.
NB I am running CS on a  new iMac running OSX 10.7.4. I use Font Explorer X Pro, Firefox, Filezilla, Picasa and Easyfind. No other third party software on my mac. I work largely off an  external server.

  • File saving in Indesign CS6

I was just working on a file and saved it. Not only did it save to the folder where the file is located, it updated the backup file on  a completely separate disc which I did not want. How do I prevent this from happening? Thanks.

How does the backup disk work? Do you have some sort of automatic backup system that scans your drives looking for modified files? That's the only way I can think of that a backup file would be modified.
To be sure old backup versions are protected in a situation like that, you should periodiocally  (like as soon as you open a file, and at each major change point) do a Save AS to a new file that includes a version designation in the name.

  • Saving issues with CS6

Is there an issue with saving in InDesign CS6?  I keep trying to want to "Save" after I make a slight change and the software keeps trying to "Save As" and create a new file.  I will not allow me to save over the old file and it's annoying the hell out of me.

No 3rd party plug-ins.  I don't have any utilities running in the background.
The read only issue I think is the reason.  I'll check on it and get back to you on what I find.
If this is the cause, then would this be a bug with ID?  Why would a file I created on an accessible drive on my desktop or server open up as a "Read Only"?

  • InDesign CS6 - Exporting Issues, PDF being sent to Photshop and saving as a psd rather than the requested pdf? Please help!

    Hi
I have an issue in InDesign CS6. It has been happening the last couple of days now.
When i export to pdf. regardless of quality instead of being saved as a pdf it is being sent to Photoshop which then saves the file as a psd...
I have updated InDesign to the latest CS6 update which helped the issue yesterday but today the same problem is back. Help please what could be the problem and how do I fix it?
    Any advice is very appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sam

ExportPDF is a subscription service for exporting PDF files into Word and Excel, from Adobe Reader. I suspect you need the InDesign forum, as InDesign is the product here.

  • How do you Place rtf files from LibreOffice into InDesign CS6

I am new to InDesign CS6. I am having a problem Placing LibreOffice rtf files into InDesign.
I am using LibreOffice 4.3.2.2, Lotus WordPro, and Windows 7. I am saving my work in rtf files. Each page has two columns.
Placing rtf files from WordPro into InDesign works with no problems, but - I wonder just how long WordPro will continue to work with Windows 7 so I would like to switch to LibreOffice.
When I Place a rtf file that has two columns from LibreOffice into InDesign, I get a loaded text cursor, but nothing loads. I can take this same file, remove the columns so there is only one column, and it loads just as it should. Further, if I load the one column file into a Master set up for two columns, the file loads into two columns with all the proper formating.
Please guide me in how to Place the LibreOffice two column rtf files into InDesign.
      Thanks.

Thanks to everyone who read about my problem. I have solved it myself by using "RTF Import Options."

  • MathType 6.7e with InDesign CS6 on Mac OS 10.6.8

We have created an equation as EPS/None format by using the MathType version mentioned above.
The same equation was imported into InDesign CS6 and found that there was an extra space that occurred around the equations. But we did not give any additional space before/after the equations in MathType.
The above space was taken by default while saving eps/none format in MathType itself.
On Windows, There is an option called "Picture Padding". We could control that extra spacing before even we created any equations.
On Mac, I was unable to find that option for the above version.
Since we struggle a lot to adjust an extra space in InDesign on every equation that occurred by default while saving as EPS/None format.
We are running out of time to deliver the pages to client.
Can you please guide me on how to solve this issue?

Regarding picture padding on the Mac...
As you noted, on Windows it requires a change in the Windows Registry. On the Mac, this is in an Apple Plist.
Here’s where the file is located: ~/Library/Preferences/com.DesignScience.DSMT6.plist
Note that this is a hidden folder. You may already understand how to find it, but in the event you don’t, the easiest way is to open a Finder window and click the Go menu. Press the alt/option key, and you'll see Library appear between Home and Computer. Click it, and when it opens, then you can navigate to the Preferences folder. (Note that this is not the Library folder you'll find simply by clicking Macintosh HD. That's not the hidden Library folder, and you will not find the plist there.)
Before opening the file, if MathType is running, close it, otherwise any changes will be overwritten when you close MathType.
Once this plist file is open, scroll down near the bottom to the key named Windows/PicturePadding. The default value is 2. You can change it to 0 and save the file. If you have the Apple Developer Tools, the best way to edit this file is with the Property List Editor app. Don't even try with TextEdit.app. Another app that works is TextWrangler.app.
This may solve the issue, but you may also see some clipping of the image. You'll have to experiment a bit to see what works. We plan to improve this process in MathType 7 to make it possible to change this value through the MathType GUI.

  • Indesign CS6 not so kosher

    Hello,
Please could somebody help - this is driving me nuts.
I am Running Indesign CS6.0.1 on an Imac (3ghz - 4gb Ram - Intel Core 2 Duo) using Lion 10.7.3.
I have designed a Catalogue for my company which is 85 pages. This is the first catalogue I have produced on CS6, but have been using Indesign for many many years with no problems.
The problem I am facing is that when I try to print the Book of the catalogue, it spools the first 40 odd pages with no problem, but then seems to randomly get stuck on subsequent pages. Like I said the page it gets stuck on is random, sometimes page 47, sometimes page 55 etc. I have gone into linked files and edited and fixed anything that I thought might be causing problems, to no avail.
I tried to convert to PDF, to then print via Acrobat. The same problem arises. Randomly gets stuck on pages.
I have now tried to split print the catalogue, ie first half, then second half.  The first half (33 pages), has printed with no problem, but the second half is now stuck on page 60.
In addition to this. on certain occasions, it will just crash. This to seems to be random, as I have been busy with the exct same actions.
I have deleted preferences & saved data, updated to latest version. I have tried to print on another colleague's Mac Pro (he has 6gb Ram - same OS & indesign version), still with no change in result.
Other than reisntalling lower verson of Indesign, and coverting all my documents, I am at my wits end on how to solve this problem.
If anybody could help - I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Grant

    Hi Dov,
Thank you for your quick response - it is greatly appreciated.
To clarify a little - The problem is occurring when I try to print directly to the Printer from Indesign. But I have been unable to complete the PDF export, as the same problem occurs when exporting, as when printing. I.e. The progress gets stalled on random pages. So I have been unable to try and print form Acrobat, or to even view the PDF document. (incomplete export).
The Printer we are using is a Canon iR ADV C5051 Laser printer.
I completely agree with you on need or lack there of, of re-installing.
I have just tried to split print the Book in 3 sections. To test if there are any problems in any particular parts of the book / documents, and whittle down the problem areas. This has spooled through & printed with no problems.  Unfortunately this is not a practical way forward for me, when it comes time for me to print these catalogues out in bulk. (I print several hundred catalogues).
Please see below for the Link to the PDF catalogue. Again I have had to export the Book in sections and then combine it in Acrobat.

Thanks again for your timeous response.

  • Can someone help with my download of inDesign CS6?

We bought inDesign CS6 online, but it didn't come with a disk. Instead I was prompted to go to the following link http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html
After downloading CS6 Design Standard (files 1 and 2), the larger of the two files was saved to my download folder as a 7Z file. The smaller file was the "extractor." I click on that and it gives me the folder location box, then I click next. At that point, the following message appears: "A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder" After click OK, this message appears: "A problem occurred while extracting the archive. Please try downloading the Adobe CS6 Design Standard again." After clicking OK, this is the last message that comes up: "Exception EListError in module DesginStandard_CS6_LS16exe at 0001B6E3. List index out of bounds (0)," accompanied by the dreaded red X.
This wasn't a cheap purchase. And my computer is only five months old, so memory shouldn't be an issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? For starters, an idea on how to open a 7Z file? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    Dan

here are some, Best Free Download Manager
they should all have a 'resume' feature, but you should double check because it's the feature you really need.

  • Missing links in Indesign CS6!

    Good morning!
Yesterday, my workmate and I did a .indb file in Indesign CS6. That .indb (book) is made of several .indd files (documents).
So far so good. Then, after it was ready, we linked all images (using the Links panel) to each .indd and then we saved it.
Today, I've tried to move those documents to my computer.
However, the Links panel now shows many missing links in the images, according to the image below:
I can't understand how Indesign CS6 missed links in this case, because we have already linked all images to each document.
Please, I would like to learn more about this process of linking images to documents in Indesign.

inDesign links documents via a file path.
It doesn't actually add the image itself to the document, but rather relays a link to the where file resides on the hard drive.
It then draws a representation of that image in the layout using a proxy thumbnail.
So when it's linked it is actually looking at a file path, say something like
If I move that file to a computer where the my documents folder has a different name say "C:\MyDocuments\Eugene\Images\Eugene1.png"
    "C:\MyDocuments\Marcelo\"
Then when I open the file on Marcelo's computer the link would still be
    "C:\MyDocuments\Eugene\Images\Eugene1.png"
I need to redirect the link to go to
    "C:\MyDocuments\Marcelo\Images\Eugene1.png"
As stated above you should use
    File>Package
Zip the folders the computer generates - and then send them to a new computer.
Unzip and work on the file.

  • How Do I Mass Search and Replace Swatch Colors In Entire Indesign CS6 Document?

I've jumped from CS4 to CS6 and its been a little while since, but just trying to refamiliarize myself with the many Features of Indesign CS6.
Here's my issue: I have a really old CS4 document I've opened up and saved in CS6. I have to change all swatch colors throughout the document from pantone swatch 295 C to updated pantone swatch 293 C.
Question, without my having to go through the entire document one object at a time looking for each object, HOW do i perform a Mass search and replace of Color swatch references from 295 C to 293C.
I thought i could just click swatch properties and update the color... but No... that doesnt work as swatch properties is just grayed out
I'm sure i've overlooked something but a refresher on how to mass find and replace color in a document would be great.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing from someone.

Thanks for the tips.... both seem like good options without my having to purchase a 3rd party software to accomplish this...
I must admit... Because I've been stuck in Web Design and Motion Graphics for the past couple of years, when I re-opened my old print work from the CS4 days into CS6 it is obvious I have some catch up to do....
I was almost embarrassed to admit I had forgotten the technique of Alias one color to another using Ink Manager... I had to look it up and found this helpful tutorial http://indesignsecrets.com/alias-one-color-swatch-to-another.php
    Thanks for both solutions....

  • InDesign CS6 colors to Corel Draw 12

I've designed a logo and stationery for a small business customer. The logo has 2 Pantone colours. The offset printed letterhead has a 7% tint for a graphic element (curved stripes) printed in Pantone #137 (orange) as a large watermark on the page.
I saved the vector graphic element separately as a 7% tint of #137. The files are a two colour EPS file and a PDF for my customer to import and bring into some of his documents. Which he did. He uses Corel Draw and prints on his office inkjet printer.
The final graphic element output has a different tone than the original #137 orange. The printed graphic is pinkish and different than his letterhead.
    What's doing that?...
Is Corel Draw changing my file from a spot color EPS to a CMYK file?
I don't use Corel Draw and have no idea what suggestions to make to keep the Pantone orange true. Can I fix it on my end by saving or exporting the file differently, OR can my customer do something in Corel Draw?
    Mac OSX10.6.8, InDesign CS6.

How is he getting the EPS into CD? CD can interpret the EPS and convert it
all to CD objects or it can leave it alone, pretty much like placing it into
    an ID file
As Bob mentions, CD, upon importing an EPS will give two options. The default is to open the EPS as editable objects, just like AI. This is exactly what you want them to do. Do not that also like AI, the objects will be grouped.
I can gaurantee you that your client does not want to choose the second option in CD, which is to "Place as Encapsulated Postscript." If they do, the entire page size that you had in ID will come in, which is likely larger than the art itself. This same thing happens when placing the EPS in ID.
BTW, the last thing I would even try doing is opening that file Illy. ID
created EPS files don't do well in that situation.
BTW, the last thing I would want to do is to not check the EPS with the tools I have.
And for the PDF, you should be using Acrobat. Which will simply confirm that the Pantones are present at whatever tinit value you specify (which they will be).
    Take care, Mike

  • Incorrect images from .indb file export to ePub in Indesign CS6

I am having problems exporting images to ePub and get a different result from the same file depending on whether I export directly from the .indd file or from the .indb file.
When I export to ePub from the individual chapter (.indd) file, everything is fine and the images appear in the correct locations where they have been anchored.
When I export via the book  (.indb) file, images are being replaced with the incorrect file in the resulting ePub.
Looking at the HTML, it seems not all images are being exported from the .indb file and when the image is missing, Indesign is substituting the next available image from the alphabetical list in the images folder so I'm getting incorrect images peppered throughout the book.
Any idea where I've gone wrong and how to fix it? I've produced several ePubs with images and never come across this before.
More details on how I've set up the files and any other info I think might be relevant below if needed.
    - I'm using Indesign CS6 (8.0.1)
    - I'm producing an 11 chapter book.
    - Each chapter is a separate .indd file for ease of editing.
    - These 11 files have been added to an .indb file for export to ePub.
    - Images are all anchored to their captions within the text.
    - On Export to ePub settings for images I have selected to insert a page break before the image and that settings apply to anchopred objects.
Nothing else is selected (I don't want to preserve appearance from layout.)
    - I'm using the Articles panel feature for order of content.
    - In the original file supplied, the images were placed as .tiff images. I saved them to jpeg and relinked them using the "relink to folder" and "match same file but this extension" options.
    - No links are flagged as missing.
    Any help much appreciated.

The solution points to how, it appears, the book panel export is functioning: each file exports a set of tags referenced to itself; file01 adds a "1" to its tags, and so forth. What I was able to do was use a file referencing all of the tags in the style suite in two ways:
    first, I exported to an epub the single file, creating a fairly clean CSS, which I then extracted and renamed;
    then, making certain that file was the "source" file in the book panel, I mapped for export all of the tags, being careful to be certain each tag/class combo was same as in renamed clean CSS;
    I synchronized the whole shebang;
I exported to epub, adding my clean CSS as an external style sheet, selecting only "include embeddable fonts".
    Bingo!

  • Permissions in InDesign CS6

We are now using a Mountain Lion server after a major breakdown of our SL server and all permissions are showing the files are at read write.
Working on the Network we create a file in InDesign CS6 and save the file, all opens correctly after saving.
We then create another file for say imposition and place the original file into the imposition file, the minute that file is saved then the original file becomes a (read only) file.
We can work around by doing all work on the desktop and then saving the folder onto the Network, or we can quit InDesign and reopen the original file and until the imposition file is saved the original is workable, or we can save the original (read only) file onto the desktop and then drag it onto the Network and replace and it remains workable until linked to the imposition file.
Why does this happen and how can I fix it so the original remains as a workable file and doesn't change to read only.

Do you mean that after placing it into another InDesign file, you cannot edit it directly on the page? InDesign files, when placed into another InDesign file, are treated as if they are an image, like a tif image. In the Links panel, you can edit original, and the inner placed InDesign file will open for editing separately.
