Saving in Photoshop

Hello,
Using Photoshop CS3 I recently went to "save as" a file and clicked the option below it called "Check in" instead. Now when I go to save or recall a file, the page that comes up is different than it was previouslly. The icons in the "look in" bar are blacki and white and there are fewer options to choose from. Also, normally when you "select" a file to open, a thumbnail appeared below of the selected image, be it a psd, jpeg, etc. Now however no thumbnail inmage appears at all.
Can you direct me back the the original interface?
Appreciated.

We must have been replying a the same time, as I now see your update.

Ok, I've figured this all out (I think!).
Lightroom only recognizes folders that are created in Lightroom.  So even though I synchronized the folders that I made (in Windows Explorer) and it saw the files inside of the folders, was able to edit the files, etc., it seems that it gets confused when you go to rename or save.
I'll keep playing with it, but that seems to be the issue.
Now I am able to:
Edit In > Smart Object in Ps > Save and Rename in Folder created in Lr
Open File from Lr again > Edit Original in Ps > Hit CTRL+S
and it works!  No name changing.
This doesn't explain why you were seeing two files created when editing and resaving the image in PS. Regardless of what's happening, the LR Export module is a better way to accomplish this objective. See the last sentence in my previous reply.
As you discovered LR only knows about what is done to files and folders inside LR! If you rename, or move files and folders using Windows Explorer, Lightroom will show a '?' on the affected image thumbnails. It can get very, very messy, so it's best NOT to use Windows explorer, Adobe Bridge, or anything for these purposes. But you certainly can create a folder outside of LR, place new or edited image files inside it, and then Import the new folder into LR.

The file was corrupted somewhere along the way (assuming it was still readable on the Macintosh).
The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files...

How do i stop photoshop cs4 from quitting unexpectedly when saving a photoshop pdf? i attempted to download the adobe drive 5 but the installation keeps failing. I went through the process of clicking through the how to's and the troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that I need to install the adobe drive 5 but I can not complete the installation. I may be incorrect on this so I need immediate assistance as I have poster and ad deadlines. I also tried disabling the gatekeeper and solution 3 on the troubleshooting of slow saving on photoshop.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thank you!

Are you attempting to save the file to a network location instead of your local hard drive? If so, this is probably why you are encountering an issue and why Adobe Drive would be the solution. As we've documented, it is a bad idea to open from or save directly to a network source: Networks, removable media | Photoshop | CS4 and later. Drive can help you get around this by setting up an Adobe supported virtual connection to the network. Thus, if installing Adobe Drive is the solution you need and your need help with installing Drive, please post to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.
If you are not saving to a network location, then Adobe Drive is not going to be the answer. Then we'll need to know more about the file you are saving.

  • Images saved in Photoshop CS6 as PNG or jpeg won't open on Windows computers

I recently saved an image on Photoshop CS6 as a PNG file so I could send it as an attachment to a client (who uses a Windows computer). They told me the file wouldn't open and instead showed as an "Unknown File".
I tried opening the file on my Windows computer, as well as a JPEG version to test out, but both came up as "Unknown Files".
The only way I could transfer the files I saved in Photoshop was to export them as PNG through the 'Preview' application.
Is there a reason why these normal formats won't open properly?

  • Some images saved in Photoshop CS will not open in Photoshop 6

We have confirmed that some files saved from Photoshop CS will not open in Photoshop 6. This is due to a bug in Photoshop 6, not in CS.
These files open correctly in Photoshop 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 7 and CS on both platforms.
The solution is to upgrade the copies of Photoshop 6 to Photoshop CS.

    Hi sig,
I actually did try reinstally Photoshop - even reinstalled my operating system. I looked for the file "Adobe Unit Types" and see that it is indeed there in the ScriptingAdditions folder. But I still cannot open the tif files.
I should also mention all my tif files have the .tif extension on them (in case anyone suggests that's the issue.)
And, this problem is the same with Illustrator CS .ai files as well.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks.

  • EPS files placed in InDesign can't be saved in Photoshop until the ID document is saved

    Hi!
I'm wondering if there's a way around this problem.
When mounting an EPS images in InDesign that image can't be saved in Photoshop until the InDesign document has been saved.
Is there a workaround for this problem?
It doesn't happen with TIFF files, for example.

What Bob means here is that when Photoshop opens an EPS it instantly rasterises it. Whereas you can save an eps with vector shapes, vector masks and type and it outputs as vector, once it's reopened in Photoshop it's completely rasterised by default.
The preferred format would be a PDF as this would retain the vector shapes, masks, type for both editing and output.
A psd will output everything as raster at the native file resolution, although you can open the PSD file and edit the vector elements.
If the original EPS from the OP has no vector elements and is just a raster document, then it won't do any harm opening it in Photoshop.
    EPS won't support layers though.
Whereas PSD and PDF (version 6 and above) do support layers.
There's plenty of info in this document regarding the subject - http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/cs4/articles/cs4_printguide.html (links are on the right to download the document)

  • Video file saved as photoshop CC is missing links in layers panel & video cannot be found in the timeline

I installed photoshop from the adobe online and all files have to be saved as "photoshop cc".  This new program does not give the option to save a file as photoshop cs6, etc.  I created an animation/video as a photoshop cc.  After a few days of returning to my saved file, some links are missing in the layers panel and the video/animation in the timeline cannot be found.  You would have to have downloaded the new photoshop from adobe online to know what I am talking about.  Can anyone help with this issue?

I don't do 3D animations, but Seb Zaremba said it worked in the former Photoshop CC. You can have both version installed on your computer. Go to the Creative Cloud app and Apps>Filter & version>previous versions. There you will find the installer for CC (2013). Give it a try.

  • Jpeg thumbnails too small when saved from Photoshop

Since moving to Snow Leopard, I notice that the Finder shows jpegs saved from Photoshop quite a bit smaller than jpegs saved using other apps, like Preview or just scanned images. This makes viewing the thumbnails in the Finder harder. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
I would post a screen grab to show this, but I can't see how to do that here. If anyone knows, please let me know.
    Thanks

That's because Photoshop creates its own rather smallish icons (by the new standards) for the files. If you remove custom thumbnails and let Finder draw them they'll be scalable all the way up to 512x512. There is a preference from within Photoshop to tell it to NOT create icons. Go to PS prefs, select Saving Files, and turn off Image Previews. The advantage is that the icons can be drawn larger; the disadvantage is that they will appear in Finder more slowly, since instead of simply displaying what is there Finder has to draw the icons. Furthermore, Finder doesn't always draw the icons with the clarity one would expect: sometimes they never do appear as sharp as they ought to be (there are several very lengthy threads discussing this problem, with no real solution), sometimes they slowly appear in all their large glory.
Oh, and to post a picture, as in my signature, you have to have the image available somewhere online, then add an image tag.

  • Cannot import files that I just saved on photoshop

This is the situation I encounter very often: I get a graphic from a client, I open it on photoshop, resize it, crop it, check transparency and so on, then I save it as a .psd file to work on it on Premiere
When I open Premiere and select the import function I can see the folder and I can see the file I just saved but Premiere doesn't let me select it to import it. The file shows up on the screen as transparent as if its not possible to select it
I am attaching a screen shot below to illustrate what Im saying, this is the little screen that shows up when I select import from Premiere. The file I just saved on photoshop in this case is "gmc logo 3" and as you can see its not on full black color but on light gray, and it doesn't let me select it for import
Now the very weird thing is that to solve this situation I have to go outside Premiere, open the FINDER and find the folder and the file in question, I then select the same file Premiere didn't let me select and then drag it from the outside window into the Premiere timeline, and Premiere DOES take it, it plays well, it works, everything is good but 5 seconds prior Premiere didn't want to read it using the import function
Ive been working like this since I got my system but as you can imagine is very annoying. It doesn't do it all the time but 50% of the time it does, I haven't been able to see which specific format it does it with, I think it does it more with .psd files but Im not 100% sure its only with .psd files
Just wanted to know if anybody else has encountered this same situation, maybe its something simpler than I imagine. I have a Premiere CC installed on the new Mac Pro
    Thanks!

Mark you actually solved the situation I think, and no I hadnt notice that the file in question was the only one without an extension.
It seems that when I select SAVE AS on photoshop I select the entire original name file (including the extension) and I write the new name (erasing the original extension) so the file doesnt have an extension and when I select import on Premiere then it doesnt let me select it because of that.
As I mentioend on my original post it was simpler than I imagine, thank you!!

  • Muse strips off digimarc copyright in jpeg files saved in photoshop. How do I prevent this from happening?

In Muse, the digimarc watermark I added in jpegs saved in photoshop get stripped off when uploaded to my website. How can I prevent this from happening? The jpegs are set to their exact size in Muse. Thanks.

    Hello
My procedure is to resize the original psd file in photoshop, change the mode to 8bits, apply the digimarc filter and then save as jpeg. I place the file in Muse without changing its size and upload. I then right click to save the uploaded image from my website and bring it into photoshop to verify the digimarc watermark. The digimarc filter shows there is no watermark at all.

  • I am getting errors upon use of JPG images, saved from Photoshop, in Encore.

How do I use Photoshop JPG images in Encore without errors?
When using camera jpg images, saved by Photoshop (either save, or image manipulation like autocolor then save, no other Photoshop options were tested), Encore will either :
    1) generate an image import error: "The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system.  Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem." and be unable to import the image,
    2) Image import stops before completion (Encore stops responding and must be Closed by Windows Task Manager), or
    3) with a number of images imported, upon attempts to create a Slideshow, Slideshow creation will stop while in progress, and Encore does not respond (Encore must be Closed by Windows Task Manager).
Import and Slideshow creation using untouched camera images is nominal and uneventful.
Import and Slideshow creation using PhotoShop(64bit) GIF (copy) images is nominal and uneventful.

The common cause of this issue is still image files where the pixel size is too large. This warranted its own help page, which is now a dead link.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/error-software-used-decode-media.html
But I assume the pixel size is the same whether you are processing them in Photoshop or not. but the main point is that the underlying problem is not about decoders. Encore encounters a problems dealing with the file and throws the only error it (apparently) has. So you are looking for anything like that: pixel size, changes between rgb and cmyk, extra metadata in files. Maybe even filename oddities (length, special characters).
I would look in part at what versions you are using and compatibility settings.
I would save them as png or psd.

  • JPG's saved using Photoshop and emailed to mobile phones will not open

I am using CS5 on a Mac OSX.
I am pretty proficient with Photoshop and have been using this version for several years. This may not be a new situation, I may just have discovered it.
I have emailed from Outlook to two different iPhone (both 5's) and an Android phone. I don't know what the message was on the Android but on the iPhone it starts downloading then displays a greyed out box labeled "mime-attachment".
I have tried changing the file size. I have tried 8 and 16 bit settings.
There isn't any problem opening the files on notebooks and desktop computers.
If I import the file into iPhoto (a Mac program for managing and editing photos) and then resave it, the jpgs email perfectly.
    Any ideas?

Thank Imransim, looking at the mime threat it gave me an idea to try another approach. I tried sending the files using Hotmail and they emailed and were received perfectly.
Conclusion is that the problem is Outlook on my Mac. I will get someone else to use Outlook and send a file saved in Photoshop to my mobile and will report back.

  • Trouble importing JPEGs saved in Photoshop.

Here's a brief description of my workflow: I shoot Canon EOS 350D, import RAW files into Lightroom, correct them there, then edit some pictures in Photoshop, save as JPEGs and when all's ready, import the shoot into iPhoto because I prefer to keep the images there.
But I'm frequently having troubles with the JPEGs saved in Photoshop: iPhoto gives me an error that the files were in corrupt format and could not be imported. However, I can open em up in Preview just fine. So I have to re-import them into Lightroom and export them again from there. This time the images get sucked into iPhoto just fine. Any ideas what might be causing this? And what is the solution?

This sounds like the Photoshop Color Profile bug. Check out this thread:

It's one of many but there's a solution - of sorts - in it.

I'm working as a designer. Whenever I send images to my boss (usually jpgs saved in photoshop), she can't resize them. Is there a certain way I need to save them in order for them to be resized later?
