Saving in Version sets

I have Elements 4.0 for windows.  All of a sudden I can't save my edits as versions sets and they don't appear in organizer at all.  I think they are getting saved, I just can't find them.  Also, I started having problems tagging pictures, sometimes it works other times it won't.  I reinstalled the program, but I'm still having trouble.  Anyone know what's going on?  I need help - I'm three years behind on my pictures and now I'm at a stand still!

Try File > Catalog > Recover.

  • PSE 12.1 not saving in version set

I have been successfully using PSE 12.1 on Windows 7 since last August.  However I've started having problems in the last 2 or 3 days.  I start the Organizer and select a photo to edit.  When I "save as" I get one of two results.  In the first case it saves the photo in the proper folder but it does not create a version set with the original.  In the second case, the editor locks up and eventually I get a message saying the editor is not responding and windows is looking for a solution.  Usually it saves one photo as in case one above, and then fails to respond on the second photo and I shut it down.  Over the past 2 days I have uninstalled PSE 12 and reinstalled 3 times, upgrading to 12.1 each time., but I get the same result.  Any ideas what is causing this?
Update:  I've given up.  Uninstalled for the last time; purchased PSE 13; everything working with new version.

This is odd . Did you tried with clean preferences. To clean preferences go to "Edit Menu>PReferences>General" and click the button "Reset Preferences on next launch". Relaunch PSE.
This is not new, already several posts on this forum and one bug report:

    See:

Today's state of the problem seems to be that this happens not only with saving in version sets in PSE12, but also on simple saves with 'include in the organizer' checked.
It happens on previously converted catalogs, not on new ones.
It happens when the process 'elementsautoanalyzer.exe' is running (you can 'kill' it from the Windows task bar, but you must do it every time you start the organizer. Deleting or renaming this file seems to work.)
This seems also to be a problem for people using the 'watched folders'.
So, to prevent the problem : kill the elementsautoanalyzer.exe every time you start the organizer.
To recover the edited files not included in the catalog, do a manual 'get photos and videos' from the already gotten files.
It's important to do so, otherwise the edited files won't be catalogued and be missing if you do a backup.
If necessary, use the automatic stacking feature by visual similarity to stack your originals with your edited versions, since you can't create version sets.
If you can share your experience on the above feedback link, please do it and add your vote.

  • Elements 11 problem with Saving to Version Set

I have upgraded toElements 11 but when i go to save a file to " save in version set with original" it will not let me, as the  tick box is blanked out?

It maybe a question of permissions. Are you running from an administrators account or a user account? If the latter do you have full read/write permissions for the application? What operating system do you have ?
On Windows try making a direct shortcut for the Organizer and Editor. Make sure you have the correct file path as there is more than one exe file. You can then launch the programs directly from the desktop bypassing the welcome screen. This is generally better as the welcome screen leaves background processes running.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
Then make a direct shortcut for the Editor in a similar manner.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
N.B. on 32 bit systems navigate to Program Files
Right click on each of the new desktop icons and launch by choosing “Run As Administrator”
Keep both applications running but try to edit and save a photo as before.

  • Problems  saving in Version sets

After editing raw images, I try to save the edited image as a jpeg file in a version set with the original raw image.
However what I get is the edited jpeg and the edited raw...wiuth the original uneditted raw file being lost.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

OK, I understand now. I do use the open image button, and then select "save in version set with original". When I open the version set, the 2 images are the jpeg and the raw of the edited file.
I do not see the original raw.
BTW, this has only started to be an issue. Previous edits even with PSE11 have contained the original file. I dont know if I could have inadvertently made a change to the settings.
    I appreciate your suggestions.

  • Can you please help solve my sudden problem saving photos in version sets?

Saving edited photos in Version Set
Ever since I have owned the excellent Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, I have saved edited photos in a version set with the original. Now, in spite of the 'save in Version Set' box being ticked, they are saved separately. When the edited photo is saved, it says 'imported from hard disk'. It has never said this before.
When the photos are imported from the camera, they are saved in Adobe/Digital Camera Photos/code provided by photoshop (eg 2006-03-10-1632-38). Under properties/history it says imported from Panasonic DMZ-TZ3. This has not changed. All the saving arrangements appear to be unchanged.
Photos (thousands!) have been successfully edited and saved in a Version Set. Under properties/history it says 'edited version' and 'imported from Panasonic DMZ-TZ3'.
Suddenly, photos that have been edited and should have been saved in a version set, now say under properties/history nothing about being edited.  They say 'imported from hard disk'. In other words they are being treated as a new photo.
I really hope you can help me to solve this infuriating problem. Please ask if you need more information.
I work on a PC with Windows XP
    Michael

Michael: are you still using an old version o0f PSE (e.g. PSE V4)? Problems similar to the one that you described are relatively frequent in old PSE Versions ( I was suffering a lot from them)..... and there are quite seldom in newer PSE versions.  Unfortunately, I do not remember which PSE Version became much better in this area (was it V5? or V6?)
If using an older PSE version and encoutering often the problem: consider to migrate to a newer PSE Version..

  • Versions Set not saving in Organizer 9

Using Organizer and PSE 9 on a Mac, about 13,000 photos in single catalog.
Had been using Versions Sets with no problem, but now the edited image is not being added to the version set.  It works okay if I do the edit in Organizer - the edited version saves in version set.  But if I go out to PSE for edits and save edited version, a version set is not created.  Using Save command in PSE and the "Save as Version Set with Original" box is checked.  Have  closed Organizer and reopened, also ran the repair catalog in Organizer, but no change.
    Thanks,

Same issue here. Some files it works, some not. I cannot find any elements that would be causing this. I thought the file name could be too long, or contain special characters, but I have been able to make it work in some cases.
I'm not sure forums are monitored so I guess we're just out waiting for an update that would miraculously correct this...
In the mean time, when you do edit within an album, the edited files gets added to the catalog but not to the album, which is left with just the original. Very unuseful...
In the hope that someone will find a solution to this.

  • Version sets in 12 not working correctly

Do other people have an issue in Photoshop Elements 12 with it not consistently saving photos in version sets?  someties it works correctly and somethimes it doesn't and it also bumps me out stating it is a new photo.  i do have it configured to always save in version sets and to not notify me with new photos?
    Emily

Thank you so much.  We'll see if this fixes the problem.  I had worked with
Adobe for many many hours in August and they couldn't figure out why it was
doing this.  how come they don't know their own product!!!

  • Version sets in Elements 12

I have just upgraded from 8. I can load my Raw file ok (.NEF) into the raw converter and make adjustments as necessary. However, when I open the image and then save as, although the version sets option is ticked, it does not appear back in the organiser. The file is on the hard disk ok, but does not seem to be accessable from the orhganiser. I've seen some other people are having similar issues with version sets in elements 12 but I can't see what the soluton is.

Thanks for this advice. I killed ElementsAutoanalyzer.exe as described and this has partially solved the problem. Now when I open the image from the raw converter, and then immediately Save As, I get the options for save to organiser and include in version set ticked, the file is saved but doesn't appear in the organiser. If I then Save a second time (the option Save As is disabled), I get only the option to include it in the organiser (the include in version set option is disabled). This time, after checking ok to overwrite the existing file, it is included in the organiser next to the original file. Further editing of this file does save to a version set, so you end up with the original file and then a version set of all the edits. This is ok, although not ideal as it wastes space in the organiser.

  • Problems using version set in Elements 9

    Hi!
I have problems using the version set. When saving files in the Element 9 editor I can not mark the "version set" option, its not highlighted and not possible to mark or use. Is there a basic setting that I´m missing or??? I have the MAC version of Elements.
Also I have noticed that when I have edited a file in the Elements 9 editor and I come back to the Organizer the editor have changed the time of the photo? This means that its rather difficult to find the photo in the Organiser. It often change the time 1 or 2 hours.
As I cant use the version set I can not keep my tags on the edited pictures. Is there a setting for keeping the tags and catalogue belongings to a edited file?
As of today this software makes no sense to me and I can basically not keep working with it as it does not support basic functionality that I´m dependent on.
    Best Re
    A

I’m not seeing this in my own version sets in PSE9; when I expand the set every image has the same date and time under each thumbnail.
I’m wondering if you have used the “save for web” command at some point, which
wipes all EXIF metadata, including the date & time of the original - in order to optimize the image for display on the internet. So if you have imported such an image Elements has to make an estimate. Apart from this known scenario I can’t really explain what’s going on.

  • PSE 13 version set

I'm unable to view, manage or otherwise use version set options in PSE 13 (Windows 8.1) even though the set is created and the set exists and can be viewed in File Explorer.
It makes no difference if the set is created in the Organizer or manually saved as a copy in a version set in the Editor.
All version set menu options are greyed out.
I converted a catalog from PSE 10...repaired and optimized that...created a new catalog in PSE 13...no difference.
    Any clues....?

View>Details and you should be able to work with version sets. The new adaptive grid view doesn't do versions.

  • PSE 7...Unable to save edited photos in a version set

I am suddenly unable to save my edited photos in a version set.  The edited photo is being saved on the hard drive but is not linked to the previous photo nor is visable in the open catalog.  This issue in occuring in only one catalog but not in others.  Thanks for any help.

You may be encountering a known bug.  To troubleshoot:
    1. In the Organizer, select one of the problem photos (the original, not the edited), right-click it, and do Show Properties.  What is the full, precise path of the photo, shown to the right of the yellow folder icon at the bottom of the Properties window?
    2. Do Help > System Info.  What is the precise path given for Catalog Location?

  • Problems with version sets

I have PSE 6. When I open a JPG from the Organizer using Full Edit and then try to save, I do not get the option to save the image in a version set (even though I do have the Organizer option checked). However, I noticed that invoking Full Edit also prompts the Organizer to say there is a new file in the watched folders. This "new" file is the very same file in the very same location. If I accept to add the file to the Organizer I get two thumbnails in the Organizer, both pointing to the same file on disk. If I do this then the "Edit In Progress" banner appears on the "new" thumbnail and the editor does allow me to add the image to the version set. I am sure that I did not have to do this before, I would expect Full Edit to just open the image, mark it in the Organizer as being edited, not try to add it back to the catalog and allow me to save the edit in a version set. What might be causing this behaviour?
I also have similar and I think related problems with RAW images too, but I am hoping that resolving the above will resolve the RAW issue too.

I should have said that I did try that but it still prevented me from creating a new version in a version set when saving. It is as if the editor needs to start on a copy of the Organizer's entry to allow version sets, as if the original is somehow "locked". Could that be possible?

  • Is It Too Late to Create a Version Set?

I have several photos that I edited and saved, but I did not save them as version sets.  Now I would like to convert each of them to a version set -- the edited photo on top of the original photo.  Is it too late to do that?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Sorry, I forgot to mention the details -- I'm using PSE8 on a laptop with Win7 (64bit).
Yes, my terminology is confusing because I'm fairly new to this and not exactly sure what I'm doing.  I am following the example of an Adobe technician who led me through a process whereby I could move photos from one catalog to another.  I have 5 catalogs, two of which contain many thousands of photos each.  The other 3 catalogs are more specialized and thus smaller.  My Flower Catalog, for instance, contains a couple thousand pictures.
This is my routine:  I download my photos into one of the larger catalogs (File>Get Photos from Card Reader).  If I have a photo of a flower in the group, I edit it and save it in a version set or stack.  Then, in order to "move" it to the Flower Catalog, I select and copy it (Ctrl+C).  Then, in Explorer, I open the Flower Catalog and paste it. Then, when I return to PSE8 and open the Flower Catalog (a watched folder), I get the message that a new photo has been found and do I want to add it to the browser. (This photo, unfortunately for me, is not the version set or stack but only the top, edited, photo.)  I add it to the browser.  The properties show that its location is now in the Flower Catalog.  Then I go back to the larger catalog and delete the flower photo from that catalog (not the hard disk).
A convoluted system, but it works except for keeping the version set or stack intact.
Does anyone have a better, foolproof way of moving a file from one catalog to another?  Especially a way that will keep the version set or stack together?

  • No version sets in Photoshop CS4 Bridge

Having just upgraded from PSE 7 to Photoshop CS4 I am fuming about the apparent lack of Organizer's version sets in Bridge - unbelievable! Then I discovered Version Cue in the documentation and I thought, OK - this looks heavy handed but it should do the job of keeping track of my saved files as I develop an image, but when I tried to activate Version Cue - huh! it's not there! Seems it's not provided with the basic version of CS4. How is it that Elements (the "stripped down" version of CS4) can be so much better than CS4 in this regard? Can I buy Version Cue somewhere or can I somehow integrate Organizer with CS4?
    Nick

This thread is a little old (CS2) but may still give your some ideas on how you might be able to use Organizer with CS4:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbcb1a2
An alternative might be to use Stacks in Bridge. I think Stacks would require a little more intervention than you're used to with version sets but there are some similarities.
My understanding is that Version Cue is available only with the suites. Adobe has a special on right now if you're interested in upgrading. :)
