Saving INDB files in CS6

I have spent the whole day fixing small problems with a CS4 INDB opened in CS6
1) Can't save changes: I had a problem with one word of text that had slipped to the wrong side of a text wrapped box. Fixed the problem and saved. When I re-opened the document (through the book pallette) the fix was gone and the problem back. This happened not once but four times!!
Fianally seemed to have solved the problem by re-nameing the file and replacing it into the INDB file.
2) After working on the file, when I close any of the documents using Save (not Save As) I'm asked if I want to overwrite the original file. Never seen this before in ID, what is going on. I though that Save automatically over wrote the ixisting file of the same name?
It is all probably very simple... but any help would be great.
Cheers Cathy

When you open a legacy file ID will automatically convert it to the new format, and then ask for a Save AS the first time to prevnet accidentally overwriting the original (which I hope you have not done -- once overwritten you can't get the CS4 version back).
I've seen some other problems with trying to convert books -- spent the weekend reconstructing one that was fine in CS5 and is crashing in CS6. My personal opinion is that you should not try to migrate a book unless there is need for new feaures in the new version, but I know that it isn't always practical. Next best thing, again in my opinion, is to export your CS4 files to .inx, then open each of those in CS6, save as with new names (don't destroy the CS4 versions), then create a brand new .indb file and add the new .indd files to it.

  • After Effects CC 2014 - Rendering / saving project file to CS6

    Hello all,
I'm writing here to try to understand the st**** decision to exclude mp4 and mpeg from the render possibilities from After Effects CC 2014. I would gladly go back to CS6 but as of now I have more than 40 hours of edited video project in CC 2014, which of course cannot save project files to CS6, which is another brilliant move by somebody in Adobe that has the title position of "the dude for giving ideas to p*** people off". Now the problem is this, if I choose to export just a single clip from my composition of course I cannot export it to a container and codec of my choosing since it cannot be exported to Media Encoder, and has to be done in After Effects or I have to make a composition for each and every file, in order to export it to to the Media Encoder.
Now I ask you good people any way to move my projects back to CS6, remove this unusable piece of software and be over with it, I simply don't have the time to be toying around with Adobe's new found glory for Apple and exporting stuff to QuickTime, taking 3 times longer than mpeg. Tried with OpenSeasame and by just exporting an XML file but none work so if there is any other way please let me know.
Good thing I only got 1 month and didn't pay for the whole year...
    Cheers,
    shorto

Did you use any of the new features in either AE CC (the original one) or CC 2014?  If yes, you're kinda stuck.
If no, you'd have to engage in a two-step process: backsave the AE CC 2014 project to AE CC, then open the project in AE CC and backsave to CS6.

  • Saving a file in CS6 idiosyncracies

    Upgraded from CS4:
If I open a previously worked tiff file in CS6, and make some changes, instead of being able to click Control-S as before, and have it just save, now it comes up as save as, and I have to click 3 time,s as it asks if I want to overwrite it and have the same compression.
And if I just modify and press alt-control-W - which would ask if I wanted to save and if I chose yes, it would just save it, now it would default to save a tiff as a psd instead.  Is this all necessary, all these extra steps?
Also if I have a group of images open, that I may or may not modify, and use the alt-control-W to close all when done, with CS4 it would stop on the unmodified image and ask if I want to save it.  Now if there are unmodified ones, it asks this, but it doesn't stop to show that image, remaining instead on a different image, so I must look at the file name, which for me is usually just a number and name, that I do not have memorized for each similar image.  So I might choose yes close, thinking it is one I am done with when it really isn't.
This is all such a step down in efficiency.  Is there some preference to go back to the more sensible way?

In that case I can only recommend running the basic trouble-shooting procedures (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.) … though whether they will have any effect is beyond me.

  • Incorrect images from .indb file export to ePub in Indesign CS6

I am having problems exporting images to ePub and get a different result from the same file depending on whether I export directly from the .indd file or from the .indb file.
When I export to ePub from the individual chapter (.indd) file, everything is fine and the images appear in the correct locations where they have been anchored.
When I export via the book  (.indb) file, images are being replaced with the incorrect file in the resulting ePub.
Looking at the HTML, it seems not all images are being exported from the .indb file and when the image is missing, Indesign is substituting the next available image from the alphabetical list in the images folder so I'm getting incorrect images peppered throughout the book.
Any idea where I've gone wrong and how to fix it? I've produced several ePubs with images and never come across this before.
More details on how I've set up the files and any other info I think might be relevant below if needed.
    - I'm using Indesign CS6 (8.0.1)
    - I'm producing an 11 chapter book.
    - Each chapter is a separate .indd file for ease of editing.
    - These 11 files have been added to an .indb file for export to ePub.
    - Images are all anchored to their captions within the text.
    - On Export to ePub settings for images I have selected to insert a page break before the image and that settings apply to anchopred objects.
Nothing else is selected (I don't want to preserve appearance from layout.)
    - I'm using the Articles panel feature for order of content.
    - In the original file supplied, the images were placed as .tiff images. I saved them to jpeg and relinked them using the "relink to folder" and "match same file but this extension" options.
    - No links are flagged as missing.
    Any help much appreciated.

The solution points to how, it appears, the book panel export is functioning: each file exports a set of tags referenced to itself; file01 adds a "1" to its tags, and so forth. What I was able to do was use a file referencing all of the tags in the style suite in two ways:
    first, I exported to an epub the single file, creating a fairly clean CSS, which I then extracted and renamed;
    then, making certain that file was the "source" file in the book panel, I mapped for export all of the tags, being careful to be certain each tag/class combo was same as in renamed clean CSS;
    I synchronized the whole shebang;
I exported to epub, adding my clean CSS as an external style sheet, selecting only "include embeddable fonts".
    Bingo!

  • In Design CC Back saving IDML file is crashing CS6

I have done all the updates for CC and have the latest version, but when I try and export or save as an IDML file, and try and open the IDML file in CS6 it keeps crashing In Design.
    Please Help!!

Do you mean have I updated CS6 to the latest version? That would be a no, but I have just got off the phone to adobe and I think, the problem has been sorted file was perhaps corrupted, created a new in-design document in CC by moving the pages and then saved as IDML and that seemed to open in CS6. Very strange, working now so am happy

  • A file which was created and saved using Adobe Photoshop CS6 is not opening anymore HELP

Hi, please help with my issue which is as follows:
A file which was created and saved using Adobe Photoshop CS6 is not opening anymore and sends a message saying that the file is not compatible.
What should I do, I have invested so much in that file and I dont think i will be able to do it all over again.

That's why people do incremental saves and use backups... You could try to open the file in an image viewer like IrfanView and see which parts are salvagable, but that's as good as it gets most likely...

  • CS6 Beta ended by crash - How/Where to keep my Auto-Saved Recovered file ?

    Hello,
I was working on Photoshop CS6 beta on Lion OSX since one month with no problem.
Yesterday seemed to be the last day of use (1st june annonced however) and Photoshop CS6 Beta shutted down since I was working on it.
On the re-opening it asks for a licence key so I try to buy one month rental on the e-shop but the 3 bank cards tested failed. So I gave a call to the commercial service and they told me that they do not take in charge rental but only full licence and that I can download the trial for one more month if I want to.
So, I will replace the beta by the trial.
    But :
    - How can I keep my Auto-saved Recovered file I was working on when crashing (pretty important work)
    - Where the recovered file is saved on the hard-drive ? And, can I make it works whith CS6 non-beta ?
A lot of thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind Regards

As I understand it - having not (fortunatley) had the opportunity to test this - if PS crashes and you have auto-save switched on, you need to re-launch PS and it will automatically open with the recovered file(s) in the state they were at when auto-save last saved them. Auto-save stores files temporarily in a special folder that's located at the same file path as your scratch disk location. (My scratch disk is at root level on a seperate drive, so it's easy to see the auto-save folder if I look there, but if you can locate your scratch disk, you should see the auto-save folder also.)
Of course, the fact that you can no longer open PS is going to present a problem here. I'm not sure if you could re-access the file via the trial version once that was installed and pointing to the same scratch disk area.
I might have got this wrong, but I think it's correct... Feel free to disprove my post!

  • Saving INDB in CS6 always asks to confirm overwrite

Regardless of whether the INDB has been converted from CS5.5 (our previous version from which we have many files) or whether it is brand spanking new, whenever I want to save my INDB (book), InDesign brings up the dialog box that asks me to confirm where I want to save it (generally overwriting the existing INDB file). In other words, it works precisely like "Save Book As…" — but I am trying to use plain old Save Book.
I  just want to hit 'Save Book,' let the wheel spin for a second, and get on with life! Why does this have to be so impressively inelegant? Is there a preference setting or a feature I need to check or uncheck?

You will not see a (converted) title in an INDB. The file doesn't open and display in the way that INDD files do; they appear in a panel.
As noted in the original post, it doesn't matter if the INDB was created in 5.5 and updated, or if it is a new creation since CS6. However, I can now report that it does matter if the INDB was created in CS6 circa May 2 or in CS6 fully updated as of now, so that's something! This shouldn't (it seems) plague INDBs I create from here on out.
That said, I have hundreds of INDBs that were originally made previous to the most recent updates, both in CS5.5 and CS6. Resaving these doesn't seem to successfully "convert" them. The problem remains.
I guess I have to hope that the next patch makes some more progress on the issue.

  • Why is dreamweaver cs6 saving my files as a firefox html document?

Hi, I am using dreamweaver cs6 on win xp sp 3 and it keeps saving my files as a firefox html document and connot figure out how to stop this as i need to get on to my ftp to upload files. It also loaded my site files from dreamweaver cs 5 as a firefox html document. I am running firefox ver 13.0.1. Any Help would be usefeful. I tried google searching and found nothing. And the adobe general help didn't wok either.

Firefox is probably your default web browser which launches anytime you click on an .htm or .html file.
If you want HTML files to launch inside Dreamweaver instead of Firefox, open your file manager (Windows Explorer), and change file associations for .html & .htm files.  When you do this, the icon next to those files will change from FF to DW.

  • Back saving illustrator CC file to CS6 without losing layers?

How can I back save illustrator files created in CC (CS7 version???) to CS6 without losing layers?  when I open the files in CS6 it says "some info will be lost'   Ha!  all layers and separation is lost, so cannot separate parts... whole file seems grouped and cannot be separated???
When I go back to my (other) computer where I was foolish enought to upgrade to CC, I cannot figure a way to save back as I can with InDesign and saving as a idml file.  Help!

    Hi, M
Thanks for the reply... what do you mean by the 'second' dialog box... do you mean the Format box?
I am on a mac mini with Illustrator CS6 and do not want to load Illustrator CC to it (too many problems)
but have Illustrator CC on my laptop (now at home, not with me) where the files were created on it.  I saved the files to a flash to work on my mini while away... but encounter problems if I just open the CC files in CS6.
So... I am trying to explain to my husband (at home with the laptop) how to save the needed files 'back' for me so that they open fully and safely in CS6.... but doing it sort of 'blind' thus I need very specific, step by step instuctions and to explain to him exactly what each box or choice is named.
Sorry it is so hard, but he is not computer literate.  Adobe help said to do the following:
click on save as, then click on save, then you get window where at top is an option for a dropdown window and it has a 'default version 17' which then gives another dropdown with options to backward save as CS6 or CS5.
That 'save as' then 'save' seemed strange (to an illustrator and InDesign user) as did the 'default version 17' part.
In CS6 the save as Format box only offers ai, eps, ait, pdf, fxg, svgz, and svg.... nothing that sounds like the .idml of InDesign backsaving....  I as about to call home and try to walk him thru the above, blind... when got your email which sounded more hopeful.
Can you be more specific as to what  to look closely at?  Thanks so much!

  • Photoshop CS6 program error saving layered files

I recently updated my adobe software and I am still getting issues with saving layered files. I keep gettting program error - only occasionally. Sometimes saving to my desktop works and other times it doesnt. Other coworkers are experiencing same thing ever since they updated. It happens when working on a layered file for any length of time and need to save it out as a layered photoshop file. We are forced to flatten and save as a tif and loose our layers. I think it has something to do with background task but not sure...

Drag the file to your desktop, open the file there, do your edits, save, and then drag back.

  • Saving CS5.5 files using CS6

    Hey there,
I've just installed CS6 and I'm running into the same problem I did when I upgraded to 5.5 at the time. I'm running into 3 problems.
    1. The files I created using CS5.5, aren't automatically recognized as CS6 files. For instance, an InDesign 5.5 file has a white 'note' icon. When I force the file to be opened with InDesign 6 by default, the icon changes to a white note with a tiny InDesign icon in it, instead of a full CS6 icon:
    2. But that's not the most annoying thing. When I open up a CS5.5 file in CS6, it doesn't remember it's location. So when I save it, it treats the file as a new file and I have to browse back into my filing structure to find the original file location and overwrite that. It marks it as [converted] in the file name when I open it. Maybe that has something to do with it?
I just noticed it does the same thing with my Photoshop files.
    3. I also noticed that, although I uninstalled 5.5 after installing 6, that the old 5.5 folders are still in the Adobe folder. Does that have something to do with it, maybe?
Do you have a solution or this perhaps?
    Thanks!
    Janet

Thanks for the quick answer! Ok, if that's what it is, a bit annoying, I'll live with it . I'd just like my icons to appear as they should. I reinstalled CS5.5 but that didn't do it, so I'm uninstalling bot versions now - what do you suggest? Installing CS5.5 first and then CS6 - leaving CS5.5 running on my computer? In that case, do I have to set the files to 'open with CS6' as default program by right-clicking a file and choose open with CS6? Or is there another way to have files opening with CS6 by default (thus not messing up the icons)?
Or will just installing CS6 do the icon trick when everything is uninstalled?
    Thanks!

  • When saving photoshop file in PDF, my document changes, how do I solve this?

    Hello everybody,
Im trying to save my CS6 files as PDF documents. When I save my files as PDF some texts or images disappear or deform.
Is there anything i'm doing wrong?
Is there a setting I need to change for saving my files so they don't change?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
Which operating system and version of photoshop cs6 are you using?
You can find out the exact photoshop cs6 version by going to Help>System Info from within photoshop and looking at the very first line that says Photoshop Version.

  • PSE10 still shows "edit in progress" even when file in CS6 is closed

I have used PSE for years and love the Organiser to store and navigate round my photos. I've considered Lightroom, but have stuck with PSE10.
I've got the trial of CS6 and am considering purchasing. I have a problem though. If I edit in CS6, do my adjustments, save the file then close it, it still shows up as edit in progress in my PSE10 photo well. This happens with whatever photos I edit in CS6. Very annoying as they are then locked. My only option is to close PSE10 where a warning comes up about changes being lost, re open it and all is well.
Why does PSE10 think the photos are still being editied in CS6 even though they have been saved and closed?
    Help appreciated

What I have tried is after closing the file in CS6, then opening the file in PSE editor and closing that trying to "trick" the organiser into thinking it has been closed, but no luck.
I have no problem with PSE organiser and PSE editor. As soon as I close the file in the editor it becomes live again in the organiser. This is just with editing in CS6 then closing the file.
After a heavy edit session I will have numerous "edit in progress" messages over my organiser with the only way of clearing to shut down and re open PSE.
    Annoying to say the least!
    Thanks for your thoughts

  • Saving a file as .eps gives user an ID 5000 error on a Mac

I have a friend that is having a hard time saving files as .eps in InDesign, Illistrator and PhotoShop when using a Mac.  She is able to create the file and save it so she should have full ownership and read/write rights to the file.  Yet when she opens the file, edits it and saves it again, she gets a pop-up stating "Cannot save the illustration.  You do not have enough access privileges - ID 5000".  The user is the owner of the file.  How would she not have access privileges?  When she saves the file as an .ai, pdf, or jpg, there is no problem.  She also has no problem saving the file on a Windows PC.  What could be the problem?
    Software version :  CS6
Device: iMac, 3.75 Ghz Intel Core Duo with 8 gigs RAM
OS: OS X 10.8 with all of the latest updates

No, using EPS is narrow minded as it is an old outdated file type which does not support transparency nor color management. That means you will loose information and quality eventually. There is no reason to save as EPS today.
I just love it when these "discussions" come around and the forum isn't busy. It is sort of like driving by a train wreck—cannot stop myself from taking a peek.
Look, there are reasons for exporting to EPS even in this day and age. Ever work with people in India? Not picking on India but that is where the greatest number of requests I get for providing EPS files. Being the dumb SOB that I am, after I get turned down when I ask if a PDF or an AI file would be a better format, I just give them what they want.
And besides. Want to stop having to tell people to stop exporting to EPS format? Open a request to Adobe and tell them to stop supporting that format for both import and export. Until such time that Adobe sees the wisdom of y'alls argument in dropping that file format for both import/export, why not attempt to throw a little help in with the adamant Stop message, eh?
As for the OP...try having the user save to their local drive and move it to the server. Not a great solution, but it usually works.
