Anyone know what the best way is to transfer over their contacts from the iPhone 3g to the 3g s? I just sold my iPhone 3g on ebay and want to make sure I save the contacts for transfer to the 3g s.

No, this is not what I said. I said the iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer, and I'll follow this by saying it isn't a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup alone for this data.
Do you use any application on your computer for storing contact info? If not, why not? Before the iPhone, did you always use just a cell phone for storing all contact info? If so, what would happen if your cell phone was lost or stolen?
The same applies with your iPhone's backup, which includes other data. If your iPhone's backup becomes corrupt and a problem develops with your iPhone that requires restoring your iPhone with iTunes and you are unable to restore from your iPhone's backup, kiss your contact info goodbye.
Outlook Express is included with Windows, which you must have deleted, but you don't need Outlook Express. You can use the address book used by Outlook Express, which is called Windows Contacts. Did you delete Windows Contacts from your computer also?

Well i wouldn't see why your photo's, videos and music would trasnfer. As that is a android device, there is no way to have them transfer over the air to the iphone.
Contacts probably came from google. Your videos and such you would have to move them to PC then to the iphone. Same with your music.

1- Dail *228 on your iPhone 4S which is basically recognized as Verizon programmingnumber.
2-   Press “1” to “Program or Activate” your iPhone 4S.
3-   After some time your call will be disconnected and a message will appear saying “Settings updated”.
4-   Open task manager by double clicking on your iPhone 4S Home Button.

You should be importing all pics taken with your iphone to your computer as you would with any digital camera. Have you failed to do this?

Using the iPhone, the USB cable, iTunes and Windows Contacts, sync the iPhone contacts to Windows Contacts. That will save them there. They are also included in the iPhone backup made in iTunes, and if you use iCloud.
I'm sorry, I missed the calendar part the first time I looked. For calendar, you need a supported application on the computer (Outlook) or if you use iCloud, you can use the iCloud contacts and calendar app to sync.

It depends on the iPod shuffle model... Assuming your shuffle is the 4th gen (or 3rd gen) model, do you use automatic syncing or the manual method (drag and drop song on iPod in iTunes)?

Yes, upgrading to Yosemite will not touch your 3rd party apps or files in the Home folder.
Although not mandatory you should have a a backup of your hard drive regardless if you upgrade to Yosemite or not. To not have a backup is just playing Russian roulette as there are only two types of hard drives; those that have failed and those that will.

I got an iPhone 5 for Christmas. I backed everything up in the iCloud from my 4 and got most things to transfer over. However, though most of my contacts crossed over, not all of them did, and most do not have the phone numbers affixed. Please help!

Goto Contacts>Press Menu>SIM Phone Book>Press Menu> Copy All to Contacts.
