Saving IPTC in Camera Raw

I am creating IPTC data in Photo Mechanic and using Photoshop/Camera Raw 7 to edit and color correct those images. But when I attempt to save, the resulting .jpeg images do not have the IPTC data I wrote. I know it is possible, because this was my workflow in previous versions-the IPTC data also came through in one image. Why is this different in Photoshop CC and Camera Raw 7? How can I get my IPTC data through the edit and save process?

Had the same issue, found the solution in Photo Mechanic. I use the cmd-shift-i (ctrl-shift-i) command and fill in the IPTC fields, this works fine. Using the global IPTC (cmd-i / ctrl-i) doensn't work for me.
cheers

  • Quality Loss when saving Jpeg from Camera Raw

I am try to do some color correction on 400 wedding photos. I open like photos in Camera Raw then synchronize, make a few additional adjustments and then save the photos as psd files. When I save the files, the quality drops dramatically. I can see pixels and jagged edges (looks like steps) on anything curved. The photographer will not give me the RAW files, so I have to work with these high quality jpegs and I would prefer to use camera raw as it is nice and easy to fix many of the photos quickly. How can I save these files so as to not lose quality? Oh, I am on a Mac.
    --K

    Ramón,
now I am quite baffled. For years ago I conducted respective tests and demonstrated, that repeated saving with the same "quality" does not introduce image deterrioration; others did the same tests and came to the same result.
Now, to be sure, I did it again, and the result contradicts my earlier findings. Although the deterrioration is after five consecutive savings practically irrecognizabe without hugely amplifying it, it is there, and that is an issue of principle.
While it is possible, that I and others made some error in those tests, the question is (for me) what causes the difference.
I verified, that the encoding parameters are unchanged. Thus the difference must come from the calculation required to transform between the original pixel values and the encoded values by
    a. the conversion between RGB and YCbCr,
    b. the discrete cosine transform (a variation of Furier transform).
However, any differences resulting from the calculation (iteration, rounding) should be eliminated by the subsequent lossy step, the "quantization" (which is an euphemism for "throwing away most of the data"). Even if there is a difference between the first and second savings, there should not be any between the fourth and fifth savings - but there is.
One explanation could be, that the encoding and decoding functions work with different precision, though this sounds very outlandish.
    Anyway, darn.
Re the encoding parameters: they *have to be* stored in the JPEG file, otherwise the data could not be decoded, except by that program, which knows the parameters. However, JPEG is not designed for human consumption but for computers (this fact makes testing a program, which reads or writes JPEG data a serious PITA). The metadata can be analyzed only by a hex editor, and one has to know the structure of that data.
Re knowing, if the file has to be compressed or not: JPEG is *always* encoded. There are different variants of the encoding method, but there is no "unencoded" version.

  • Batch Saving jpg from Camera Raw PSE 6 for Mac

I'm running PSE 6 for Mac.  I'm shooting in RAW to retain all  data from sensor.  My work flow is straight forward.
Review photos on CF card and do initial throw away of bad photos.
Download from CF card to Backup drive to preserve original photos.
I upload photos to Bridge, keyword, grade, and copywrite, etc. then open in Camera Raw and process as necessary; exposure, recovery, sharpen, fill-in, crop, fill-in etc.
Select all and do a save (default is .png) to save my changes.  Since Camera Raw will not save to jpg format I open in PSE6
My workflow can change here depending on what my end product will be but usually I'll send some photos out to share which is the subject of another post.  I can't make the program resize more than one photo for email even though I have all of the photos I want to email selected in the film strip.
Anyway my process for batch saving to jpg is as follows:
Select all of the photos (I will select only those that have been cropped to the same size such as 4x6) in the film strip.
Open File > Process Multiple Files
Fill out the dialogue box (see attachment) and press OK
The next thing that happens completely negates the automated process, I get the Save As Dialogue box for every photo (see attached)
I delete the "copy" text and save
       6.  Some of the photos turn out black under preview in finder
       7.  When I try to reopen the jpg in PSE6 I get an error message (see attachment)
    Any help is appreciated.

Stop right there!  That's a very bad idea.   You should not be viewing images that are still on the card.  Download them to your local hard drive first.  Otherwise you run the risk of the software writing to the card and destroying the format.
This excerpt is from a long-gone post by author Bruce Fraser:

Opening files directly from the camera is a bad idea for a variety of reasons*, and it most certainly isn't faster than using a FireWire or USB2 card reader.
             • Drains the camera battery
             • Runs the risk of the software you're using to open the images writing to the card and destroying the format
             • Runs a small but significant risk of USB power frying the camera
             • Slowest method known to mankind of getting images off a CF or SD card

  • Opening & Saving JPEGS in Camera RAW

I just started using Photoshop ( version CS3) and am concerned that I'm doing things incorrectly already.
I'm not doing any huge retouching work, but am using camera RAW to open and clean up some JPEG files. I'm just doing a bit of re-white balancing, etc.
I've noticed that when I save the files ( again as Jpegs) they seem to be reduced from around 5mb files to 1.5mb files. When I open the reduced sized files in Photoshop and/or Mac Preview they are the same resolution and dimensions as the larger files, but it seems that somehow the file is being compressed.
Do I have a box checked somewhere that shouldn't be checked? And if so, does it matter ( am I losing resolution in a way that I can't see or haven't discovered?
Or is this compression just another side benefit of CS3 (along with being able to make 'RAW' modifications to Jpegs)?
    Thanks, Gllenn

In the Save dialogue in camera raw, when you choose JPEG and choose maximum quality it sets the level to 10, but you can change that number to 12 if you want to. I just tried it with my setup. With the quality level set at 10 the file size was 2.51 MB, with it set at 12 the file size was 5.76 MB. The difference is in the amount of compression that is being applied to the pixels when the image is saved. If you want maximum quality from your JPEG images I would suggest changing that setting to 12, although it will probably be very difficult for you to see any difference.

  • Saving options in Camera Raw in Elements 12.1

When saving a picture in Camera Raw in Photoshop Elements 12, the only option given for the format to save the picture is DNG. Due to batch editing opening the file back in Elements 12 is not an option. I have seen Youtube presentations where a hole list of different extensions are available when saving a picture in ACR, why is it not available in my ACR?  The ACR version in the Youtube presentation is 8.1, I have tried it in both 8.1 and 8.5 with no success.
Thank you in advance for your help.

What I am trying to do is to batch edit and save 1000+ pictures that are jpg to start with. I can't seam to find a way to do it. If I use "Open" all pictures will have to be saved individually witch takes a long time for over 1000 pictures. I love time lapse photography and as a result I am often in this situation.
Is there a way to batch edit and save pictures in Elements + ACR?
I have been requesting the ability to choose to edit a batch of selected files in the ACR module directly from the Organizer without success.
Why choose to edit in ACR instead of the editor? The main reason would be that you can use the same settings for the batch. Typical situation: adjusting color temp.
Another way to batch convert jpegs to DNG would be to allow the DNGconverter to accept formats like jpeg, png, tiff...
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/enable-jpg-conversion-for-dng-conver ter
So, my answer is that today, you can't batch convert to DNG from jpegs in the Organizer or with the DNGconverter. Does it sound a difficult technical question?
I just checked that you can select jpeg files in Lightroom and choose to export them... in the DNG format.  Now, you should understand what Adobe is expecting from you!
That said, LR is a wonderful software, which is probably the answer to your present needs. No limitations like in the ACR module of Elements, and a wealth of tools like presets.

  • Why do I get corrupted JPEGs when saving images in Camera Raw, CS6, Mac 0S Mavericks

I occasionally get corrupted JPEG files when processing RAW files in Camera Raw. The images will have lines of pixels that ar out of line, and or whole sections will be truncated and show white or black. I'm using PS CS6, Camera Raw 8.6 on a Mac with OSx Mavericks. Not sure, but it might have something to do with the Bridge Cache, which also acts up when it's getting full. Anyone else have this problem, or any advice.
    Thanks!

right click on the jpeg (the other mouse button then you use to click with) or on trackpad, hold down control and click, in the menu that pops up, click on "get info" next, if the box labeled "locked" is checked, uncheck it. Down at the bottom, there should be a box with your user name, "staff" and "everyone". to the right of this are options to change these you may need to click the small padlock icon and enter in your password. then change all of the permissions to read and write.

  • Overexposed image saved in new Camera Raw 7

I took an image (Camera raw format)  that was shot of a colorful tree last year, but overexposed; the sky was white. I edited it with camera raw in Photoshop CS5  and, then, cleared the settings in the Bridge and did it with Photoshop CS6 and camera raw 7. The difference was unbelievable. A few minutes in the new Camera Raw 7 and it was workable. I never got the image even satisfactory at all in Photoshop CS5 Camera Raw. This version of camera raw  really works well with over-exposed images.

Hello! you are opening an image that had a been edited under a previous process. Go to the Camera Calibration Tab, and set it to 2012 process.

  • Camera Raw - saving photos- help!

I edit my photos in camera raw, and after clicking "done", I save my photos in another folder on my computer. This has never been a problem until recently. When I go to that folder to open the photo, the photo is somewhat blurry, grainy, and the color is not at all what it looked like when I saved it from camera raw. I have been trying all day to figure out where I went wrong.  I have tried saving as pjeg, tif, psd from raw  - opening to PS and saving different ways from there - exporting instead of "saving".       ----  because this is something that just started yesterday I am wondering if there is something I clicked by accident in camera raw to make this happen. PLEASE help!!! thanks so much!!

The small pixilated preview image sounds like a thumbnail embedded by the camera and the full-res preview is not getting updated and it used to be.
How are you saving your photos after you click Done and how are you viewing those photos after they are saved?  Are you creating copies of your raw files as JPGs and looking at those, or are you expecting the embedded previews in the raw files to change after clicking Done in ACR?
Do you save ACR edits to XMP sidecar files or to a central camera-raw database.  This is in the ACR preferences, somewhere.

  • Camera Raw (via Bridge) starts to malfunction. Help!

    Windows XP Media Centre.
    PS CS3.
This is not the first time this has happened to me.
I am editing and saving images in Camera Raw via Bridge and suddenly, I cannot activate the Save Image command. The entire Camera Raw window just greys out and/or the Taskbar pops up in front of the Save Image button.
It's as if the Taskbar is invisibly blocking the Save Image button and appears when I try to use it.
Previously, I've had to use Control/Alt/Delete to close Camera Raw (the Cancel and Done buttons don't work either.
Another weird thing.....if I click on the Heal Tool, it will only appear on the image *above* the highest previous healing mark. If I drag the + tool symbol in amongst previous heal marks, it reverts to the mouse cursor! Bizzare!
    Anyone else had this problem?
    Any ideas?

    Sorted.
Though I didn't touch it, the Toggle to Full Screen Mode had been activated.
This, for some reason, prevents the bottom half of the Camera Screen from working.

  • Opening photo in camera raw using cs5 and photo has lots of red and blue in the image?

I am trying to open a photo in camera raw and the image always has a lot of red and blue in the picture? What can I do to avoid this. When I first started learning photoshop this did not happen?
Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps it would be helpful if you'd post a screen grab showing the problem.  I honestly can't tell from what you're writing whether you're seeing a bug or maybe you've saved some oddball Camera Raw Defaults.
Considering it could be the latter, have you considered setting the image development settings for that image to defaults, or even Resetting the Camera Raw Defaults (which will affect all images in the future)?
-or, if the above doesn't fix it-

  • Import adjusted photos from camera raw into Lr5

I like using Bridge to import my photos but also like to use LR5. After I organize and edit in camera raw I want to import (ADD) the adjusted photos into LR5. Problem is the adjustments dont import into LR. The original raw DNG is imported without the fixing that I did. Please help.

In the Camera Raw preferences, make sure you have Save image settings in: set to Sidecar ".xmp" files set. If you don't, then the settings are only saved in the Camera Raw database which Lightroom can't read.

  • Saving from Camera Raw 6.7

I recently updated to Camera Raw 6.7 (within CS5) and I am having a problem saving files.
I open a raw file then use Save Image and try and save as a TIFF file.
If I use the same directory the image saves as a *.tif without any problem - however if I try and save to a new location then I am running into trouble.
The new location when selected does not appear in the "Save As " dialogue and when I try and save the image I get an error message saying the "File could not be created"
Any help appreciated - I have used this method in previous versions without a problem.
    Thanks
    Dave

After a bit more playing around I can get this to work - although it still acts strangely.
If, from the Save As dialogue box in ACR I click on "Select folder" and navigate to a new folder then press "Select" , the Save as dialogue re-appears but without any folder path shown. If I try and save the image at that point I get the error message.
However if instead of trying to Save the image I re-click on "Select Folder" and then click on "select" again, without changing anything, then the Save As dialogoue box re-appears but this time with the new folder path shown. If I now save the image it works.
    Strange behaviour - but work-able.
    If it helps , I am using CS5 (12.04), ACR 6.7 on a 32-bit Vista system with SP 2

  • Can Lightroom import/use Camera Raw saved settings from Photoshop CS2?

Before getting LR, I used CS2. I would load my CR2 files from my cam into CS2 and Camera Raw would pop up for raw editing. I would edit the photos, but sometimes save the settings to a XMP file. Those files would then be available for any raw photo, i just had to select that setting.
Is there any way to import those saved settings files into LR? There's just text in them, what about importing the text somewhere? I dunno... I really want to use these settings files in LR!!
Also, If I change things to a photo in LR, does it have a similar save-the-edit feature like camera raw?
    Thanks!!
    -Ziv

If you import images with those side car files, you'll get those settings automatically. If you've already imported the images without the side cars somehow, you can put the side cars back and do read metadata from files.
