Saving jpeg and png files large file size

Ive recently purchased web premium 5.5 and Im trying to save files in jpeg and png format in Photoshop and Im getting unexpectedly large file sizes, for example I save a simple logo image 246x48 which consists of only 3 basic colours and when I save it as a jpeg quality 11 it reports the file size in the finder as 61.6k, I save it as a png file and its 60.2k also I cropped the image to 190x48 and saved it as a png and the file size is actually larger at 61.9k saving as a jpeg at quality 7 the files size is a still relatively large 54k.
I have a similar png non indexed colour logo on my mac I saved in CS3 on a pc which is actually larger at 260x148 and it's only 17k and that logo is actually more complex with a gloss effect over part of it. Whats going on and how do I fix it, It's making Photoshop useless especially when saving for the web
Thanks

Thanks I had considered that but all my old files are reporting the correct files sizes I have been experimenting and fireworks saves the file at png 24 at 2.6k and jpegs at 5.1k, but I don't really want to have to save the files twice once cut from the comp in photoshop and again in fireworks juggling between the two applications is a bit inconvenient even with just one file but especially when you have potentially hundreds of files to save.
Ive also turned off icon and windows thumbnail in photoshop preferences and although this has decreased the file size they are still quite large at 27k and save for the web is better at 4k for the png and 16k for the jpeg. Is there anyway to get Fireworks file saving performance in Photoshop ? it seems strange that the compression in Photoshop would be second rate in comparison to fireworks given they are both developed by Adobe and Photoshop is Adobes primary image editing software.

  • Just downloaded firefox but it constantly says it needs to update but can't AND PEarl Crescent doesn't work - saved JPEG and PNG files apear as gibberish

I have installed / de-installed and re-installed firefox on my mac and have had a lot of problems. When I used my PC I always used firefox but it isn't working on my macbook. Firefox is constnantly looking for upgrades but then doesn't actually upgrade and just gets stuck. I downloaded peal crescent (which worked prior to my de-installing and re-installing) and now all PNG and JPG files don't save properly and seem to come out as gibberish (they do hve .jpg and .png at the end)

You can download Firefox 15.0.1 directly from http://mozilla.com/ and install that directly. Please see this article (and the links in there) for more info: [[How to fix the Update Failed error message when updating Firefox]].

How do I prevent Adobe from taking my jpegs and making them pdf files? I have had to uninstall Adobe to access my photos as jpegs.

I would suggest you change your file associations so that jpgs open in a program other than Acrobat.  Assuming you have a Windows machine, just go to the Start, and search for "file associations" ... it's part of the Control Panel.
Scroll down to the file type jpg, and set it to open with whatever graphic preview or editing program you have that you want to use as the default.  From that point on, when you click on a jpg, it should not open Acrobat and instantly try to convert it to a pdf.

  • ACR PSD files - larger file size and max compatible

When using ACR > Save As to save a bunch of PSD files from raw files the resulting PSD file sizes are larger.
    for example:
if I output and save from ACR directly to a folder as a PSD, I'm seeing the file size at 63.1 MB
If I open the raw file to PS and save it within Photoshop to a PSD file the file size is 56.1 MB ( this is true whether the Max Compatible is turned on or off... probably because it's a flat PSD file)
why the difference?  same output settings from ACR, bit depth etc.
    Also,
The file saved out of ACR appears to be "tagged" as a Maximum compatible file even though it is flat, so subsequent saves, even if the PS pref is set to Never for maximum compatibility are disregarded. Whereas the same file that was opened into PS from ACR and then saved with the Never PS pref behaves correctly.
Is there a preference setting within ACR to not save the PSD's as Maximum compatible?
    thanks

    Hi Noel
I may not have been clear in my post. It's not about PSD v. Raw file size, just comparing PSD files.
    Starting with a raw file ( in this case a 5DmII CR2)
Using the same settings (mid-bottom of ACR window) when saving a file using the "save image" within ACR or opening the file into PS and then saving. This is where I'm seeing the file size difference.
The second part of the problem is that PSD files that are saved directly out of ACR using the "save image" (bottom left of ACR window) are all set as Maximum Compatibility. As a result opening these files will always be have the extra data and saving time that files with Maximum Compatibility enabled have. The only way to get around this is to have your PS prefs set to Never or Ask and the "Save As" to overwrite the file.
I just reprocessed a folder of PSD's that were saved out of ACR by overwriting as above and the 36 files (with layers, retouching etc) went from 6.9GB to 5.6GB, and the save time is also faster.
This isn't intended to be a discussion about the benefits or disadvantages of the Maximum Compatibiliy "feature", but just a question as to whether it can be turned off in PSDs saved from ACR.
    thanks

  • Saving jpeg and html file into different folders

    Hi, all.
I developed a VI that generates, on a timely basis, reports (HTML format) that contain some text, numerical values and graph images (jpeg). The problem is that when it saves a HTML file to a folder, JPEG files are also saved into the same folder.
Is there any way I can save these html and jpeg into different folders?
Or is it even possible to generate html report with some graph images without having to have save jpeg files? (this would be even better).
I included a screen shot of the VI.
Thanks in advance for your help.

There is currently no way, with the Report Generation VIs, to save the image files for an HTML report to a separate folder.  If you think this would be a helpful feature, please submit your request to the Product Suggestion Center, and we will look into possibly including this feature in a future release.  For now, the only workaround I can think of would be for you to use the File I/O VIs to manually create another folder and move the image files to it, then use the string manipulation functions to edit the contents of the HTML file to point all image file references to the new location.
As for not generating images, I don't know of an easy way to have an HTML page with images where there are not corresponding image files.

  • Why am I getting a "-01" after my differently named Exports in Illustrator CS4?  i.e.: JPEG and PNG files.

Again, the files I am Exporting are assigned different names than the CS4 Illustrator file and/or any other files in destination Folder.
    Thx.

OK. Just tested not using "Use Artboards" and it did not add "01".
Odd that it started doing that after several years of not doing that.
I'll just have to add a box around the Page edges so it will crop correctly for me.
    Live and learn, Scott.
Thanks much for your your help!  )))

  • Applying saved jpeg settings to raw (.raf) file.

    Hi,
Please could someone help me out? I have previously imported some raw (.raf) files into Lightroom and done my adjustments - i then saved as jpegs and took all files out of the lightroom dashboard.
I now want to go back into a raw (.raf) file that I have re-imported into Lightroom, and apply the same settings that I did previously to the jpegs before.
Obviously, on re-importing the raw files, they have reverted to the original settings and not the jpeg settings that I saved at.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks for your help

    DavidCraikPhotography wrote:
    Is this possible?
If you exported them with 'All Metadata', then you may be able to recover the raw develop settings from the exported jpegs using Wreck Hover (a plugin I wrote).
'Recover from export' is the menu item to use.

  • Q: HD players and carving up large files

    Greetings,
First of all, this is what I'm using:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
    8 gigs of RAM
External 2TB drive, internal 1TB drive (for media only)
    Windows Vista, 64-bit
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
First question, what is a good media player to play back MTS and M2TS files? I know there are several of them that come recommended on various sites, but I'm interested in knowing which ones to trust, which ones have the best options, and which ones some of you have had good luck with.
But my biggest problem is that a recent client gave me some very large files with which to work, and it's been like trying to shove an elephant through a drinking straw. They gave me an external hard drive with a ton of AVCHD footage on it (1440 x 1080, 29.97). No problem...I thought. They wanted to use the footage for a time lapse sequence of a big construction job of a unique dome they're building. The way they had described it to me, they were going to record the site over a long period of time, programming the camera to capture a few seconds every few hours.
Well, someone screwed the pooch. The camera was turned on almost every day, but they let the thing run all day! So, some of these files are over 30 gigs, and it's been murder trying to import them and get them to play. As I expected, it was pointless to try to use the external hard drive as a source since it's not even firewire but USB, and getting the files to play back in PP was not a good experience; I could practically hear the drive choking to death. But even when I transferred a couple of large files to my internal terabyte, they still played back terribly in PP, in both the viewer and on the timeline. When I moved the sequence marker, it would hang up the system for long periods of time, and then playback was choppy at best.
I imagine it could be processor speed - or lack thereof. I know a quad would be better, but I've played back smaller MTS files with no problem, and right now getting more processor speed isn't an option - if that's even the main problem. The thing that adds insult to injury is that this project is going to mix SD (DVCAM, I think) with this AVCHD, so I don't even think shooting the timelapse stuff in HD was even necessary (they had a small Sony camera they wanted to use). I know I could convert the m2ts files to AVIs or something like that, but that would take forever since I'm going to need to use a little chunk of each file (to edit the time lapse).
So, my second question is, is it possible to carve up these large files somehow, so that I can import smaller files into PP and use the (source) viewer in PP to scan the footage more easily? Like I said, it's been difficult to scan a 7-hour, 35 gig clip without missing something and/or hanging up the system. I don't have that problem with smaller source files. Unfortunately, I have a feeling carving up these m2ts isn't possible without converting the files to another format....?
I don't know, maybe it isn't the files and it has something else to do with my computer. But I've been editing SD without much trouble at all, and also some HD (with smaller files), so something tells me these files are just too big. My drive is 7200 rpm, and I don't have anything else on this computer except some other Adobe stuff (PowerPoint, Reader; the "garbage" is minimal. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    Paul

I would be declining to take on this project on the basis of what you have told us about what you

  • What is the difference between jpeg and png?

I have a question about the photos I created on my new Website.
Should I save the photos in jpeg or png format?
Which format is the best for good quality and low size?
    Thanks a lot.

Standard Image file format may have different capabilities in many cases. Example Png supports transparency Jpeg does not. Png supports 8 and 16 bit color depth jpeg only supports 8 bit color. All png files are not the same there is some for some thing may be optional.  I believe the PNG file format standard support an Alpha channel but one is not required.  Adobe has a Photoshop plug-in that supports png files there is also a third party plug-in that supports png as well known as supper png. There is also pgn files that have animation. Not all browsers support them and only display the first frame.  Photoshop can not save animated png files. The following animated png may not animate in your browser. Jpeg file have a single photpshop background type layer.

  • Saving Hi Res JPEGS that are a larger file size than camera Output

I use a Nikon D-200, and have imported files into Lightroom and did the changes that I wanted, then tried to export at 300 DPI at 12" x 18". After all of the files are processed, they are not there in the folder that I exported them to. I am using Windows version.

You might make sure you clicked on the correct export preset. I have done this before. To find where they went, try doing a Start/Search/Find files, folders using one of the file names.

  • Excel 2010 Freezes while saving and computing when large files are opened.

    Hi
The issue with with MS Office Excel 2010, where in if i open big files like greater than 40 or 50 mb file while saving or computing it takes lot of time
like say 10 to 15 seconds and some times more also.
This file i am referring is having around 5,000 row data and with around 15 sheets and has formula's and functions built into it.
As and when i try to delete or update one of the same the status bar show processing message and starts processing from 0 to 100% this takes
lot of time and during i feel my excel is frozen or system hanged kind of situation.
The query is what is the limitation of file size which can be opened in Excel 2010 where i can work with the same without any freeze or hanging.
need the same for Excel 2007 and 2013 versions also.
Note : other office products like work, power point works fine without any issue.

    Hi,
I didn't find the exact size of the limitation of size for Excel 2010, but as for Excel 2013, I can tell you this:
32-bit environment is subject to 2 gigabytes (GB) of virtual address space, shared by Excel, the workbook, and add-ins that run in the same process. A data model’s share of the address space might run up to 500 – 700 megabytes (MB), but could be less if
other data models and add-ins are loaded.
64-bit environment imposes no hard limits on file size. Workbook size is limited only by available memory and system resources.
I think the articles below will be very helpful to you:
    Excel specifications and limits
    For 2007:http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/excel-specifications-and-limits-HP010073849.aspx?CTT=1
    For 2010:http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/excel-specifications-and-limits-HP010342495.aspx?CTT=1
    For 2013:http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/excel-specifications-and-limits-HA103980614.aspx?CTT=1
Anyway, many factors may cause the freeze, such as hardware and add-ins, you may try starting Excel in Safe Mode to determine if it's add-ins related:
Press Win + R and type “excel /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.

  • Airport Extreme, Airdisk, and Vista - large file problem with a twist

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem moving large-ish files to an external drive attached to my Airport Extreme SOMETIMES. Let me explain.
My system - Macbook Pro, 4gb ram, 10gb free HD space on macbook, running latest updates for mac and vista, external hard drive on AE is an internal WD in an enclosure w/ 25gb free (its formatted for pc, but I've used it directly connected to multiple computers, mac and pc, without fail), AE is using firmware 7.3.2, and im only allowing 802.11n. The problem occurs on the Vista side - havent checked the mac side yet.
The Good - I have bit torrents set up, using utorrent, to automatically copy files over to my airdisk once they've completed. This works flawlessly. If i connect the hard drive directly to my laptop (macbook running bootcamp w/ vista, all updates applied), large files copy over without a hitch as well.
The Bad - For the past couple weeks (could be longer, but I've just noticed it recently being a problem - is that a firmware problem clue?) If i download the files to my Vista desktop and copy them over manually, the copy just sits for a while and eventually fails with a "try again" error. If i try to copy any file over 300mb, the same error occurs.
What I've tried - well, not a lot. The first thing i did was to make sure my hard drive was error free, and worked when physically connected - it is and it did. I've read a few posts about formatting the drive for mac, but this really isnt a good option for me since all of my music is on this drive, and itunes pulls from it (which also works without a problem). I do however get the hang in itunes if i try to import large files (movies). I've also read about trying to go back to an earlier AE firmware, but the posts were outdated. I can try the mac side and see if large files move over, but again, i prefer to do this in windows vista.
this is my first post, so im sure im leaving out vital info. If anyone wants to take a stab at helping, I'd love to discuss. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Just noticed the other day that I am having the same problem. I have two Vista machines attached to TC w/ a Western Digital 500 gig USB'd. I can write to the TC (any file size) with no problem, however I cannot write larger files to my attached WD drive. I can write smaller folders of music and such, but I cannot back up larger video files. Yet, if I directly attach the drive to my laptop I can copy over the files, no problem. I could not find any setting in the Airport Utility with regards to file size limits or anything of the like. Any help on this would be much appreciated.
