Saving jpegs or pdfs from aperture completely blown out since upgrade

since the upgrade to mavericks the saving on Aperture doesnt perform.
Highlights are blown out beyond recognition. Saving books ( pdfs to jpegs) - complete nightmare, can barely see the photo
Saving a jpeg - doesnt work - again highlights blow out picture beyond recognition.
You can see a vague outline of some of the picture but its like the luminence or exposure has been taken up 50 points.
I have noticed if i redit the photo from scratch then all if fine - but I cant do that with my workload - its like reediting a whole project - Anyone else got this stupid problem? Is there a CURE?

How are you saving your books? By printing the book to PDF?

And how are you saving jpegs? File > Export? And use a JPEG preset?
What is your Aperture 3 version, and what is your MacOS X version?
I suspect you are having a problem with a wrong color profile when saving your books or jpegs.
What is the color profile used in the Export Preset you are saving your JPEGs with? set the export Preset to "Edit" to be able to inspect the details.

Text layers not saved correctly as PDF from PS?

I frequently save layouts I do in Photoshop as PDF's. Lately I very often will discover the text does not display correctly in the PDF. One or two lines of text will display as white with a thin black outline, rather than as the basic solid black I'd specified.
I work on a Windows 7 machine with the current version of PS. The text is on layers when I save the file to PDF (from PS), but I do not include the layers in the PDF, so they should be flattening down.
Any ideas why this happens? I noticed a few weeks ago when it was also doing this that I updated the program a day later and the PDF's were not exhibiting this issue. But, now it's starting again. A big timewaster for me.

Text doesn't flatten until you tell it to. In fact that may be the problem here - you are telling the PDF maker to not retain vector text and when it tries to flatten, some layer style or something else gets in the way. Try to play with the PDF options. also manaulyl flatten the document in PS before saving to PDF...

Image from LR in blown out more in Bridge Camera Raw

I was just about to post this question, when I think I stumbled upon the answer, but I am not sure... so I decided to post anyway, for input.
After completing adjustments to my .cr2 (Canon 30D) images in LR 2.2, I decided to check my images in Bridge (CS2) Camera Raw, since my client uses that program. The highlights in my images are definitely more blown out than they appear in LR. I determined this by viewing the image with the highlight clipping turned on, and could see much more clipping in Camera Raw. I have turned off automatic tone adjustments in Camera Raw preferences. I am on an 2.4 ghz Intel iMac running 10.5.6, 4 gb ram.
What I finally noticed is that in the Camera Raw "work flow options" I had sRGB EIC61966-1 selected as the color space. When I switched it to ProPhotoRGB, the clipping was nearly identical to LR clipping. My client goes to print in Adobe1998, but that color space setting showed more clipping than LR. With ProPhotoRGB being the LR space, is this causing problems for my client?
I will be the first to admit that the topic of color space confuses me... any suggestions? (Besides the obvious, "read a book/ take a class/ suffer like the rest of us" suggestions...)

When I open images in Photoshop CS6 they are completely blown out and color posterzation like appea

When I open my images in Photoshop CS6 they appear considerably blown out - none of the foreground has color and detail seen here-but you can see a posterize like appearancin the sky. The same thing is happening in Lightroom 5.

The work files are tiffs 16 bit - anything that opens in photoshop has the
same look -jpg,psd etc. My images are printed as digital C print by a lab.
I haven't intentionally changed anything since yesterday when I was editing
images. The appearance is the same in Lightroom where my digital image are
stored. I also have scanned film image that open in adobe camera raw.So
whatever is happening occurs both in Photoshop and lightroom.
You suggest a monitor setting, worth exploring, but could a monitor issue
affect only photoshop/lightroom doc.

Pdf from Aperture to external website

I want to upload to my website a pdf of a photobook I made in Aperture - under 'print book' I saved it as a pdf. It's 91 MB and when I tried emailing it to someone it took forever and I gave up. I think it will be too huge to put on my site? I guess for print it must be saved at 300dpi. Can I save it at a lower res for the web?

You can't lower the resolution within Aperture, but if you open the PDF with Preview and when you go to save it again use the Quartz Filter 'Reduce File Size' on it.
If this doesn't reduce it enough, you can open the PDF with ColorSync Utility from your Utilities folder and apply all sorts of compression and maximum pixel dimensions to it.

Why jpeg file exported from Aperture with 300 dpi's it opens with 72 dpi's on PS ( image size)? I've tried several combinations and all give different results. And I am confused on what is the best workflow for me.

My workflow is
RAW > Aperture Library > export jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > one file on PS > edit > Save us jpeg. The I realised that files from PS were being save in a smaller size from the ones exported form Aperture. That is when I went o see <image size> on PS and files were with 72.
Since ten I've trying different things
1. Aperture > export as PSD > open on PS > edit > Save us jpeg = small file (around 15 MB)
2. Aperture > export as jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > open on PS > CHANGE dpi's to 300 on <image size> edit > Save us jpeg = big file (Huge, actually)
What am I doing wrong? Would someone give me guidance and tell me what is the best workflow, considering I edit photos to deliver to my clients and I shall give them 300 dpi's.

HDR images from PS CC blown out in LR5

So I have taken three images from LR5 and edited in HDR-Pro in PS CC directly from LR. I did not do anything to the images prior to moving them into HDR Pro. Used ACR to tone map, then saved the photo using "save". When I go back to LR5, the picture is nowhere what it is in PS. Highlights are blown and greatly over exposed. The same saved TIF looks great in PS. What am I missing? Thanks!

...apply all image adjustments to the 32 bit HDR file inside LR. This is especially true if your PS/ACR version is older than your LR version.
Select exposure bracketed Images inside LR>Edit In> Merge to HDR Pro in Photoshop>
One comment: this method is a little problematic when your ACR version is older than your LR version, because it necessarily involves ACR doing the Raw conversion / rendering of your adjustments, and not Lightroom.
This is by contrast with editing a single image, where the "Render in Lightroom" workflow is able to simply sidestep the whole issue of ACR compatibility.
With the multiple-image and the smart-object PS editing functions, in order for LR adjustments to be applied 100% reliably, they will (strictly speaking) need to restrict themselves to the older process version which the ACR in question, can fully understand.
Of course, when one is dealing with only the most basic adjustments of the camera files pre-HDR merge, with the bulk of the active LR processing to happen later (onto the 32-bit HDR file), then this is not a great hardship. The later processing CAN still happen under the current LR process version, since it constitutes an entirely different image so far as LR is concerned.

Upgraded from Elements 9 to 12 since upgrading from Windows 7 to 8.1 - Issues with my old psd's.

Hi - in regards to moving up to the newer version of Elements, I find that all the psd files I was in the middle of working with (all of them multi-layered) don't seem to be associated with photoshop anymore. When I double-click them, windows asks me what app I'd like to open them with. If I open photoshop I can open the psd files from there, however.
I made the change from Elements 9 to 12 because after installing Windows 8.1 the older Elements got weird and "buggy." I actually would've preferred to keep 9 (so if anyone's aware of "fixes" or "upgrades" for 9 that help it to work better with Windows 8.1, please let me know)!
Also, I see that the old layers panel, where I can see all my different layers and move them around to front or back, isn't there. I did see that it's possible to select "Layers" from the menu, but it's greyed out.
I'm wondering if I somehow "lost" something switching over, and I wonder if there's something I can do to get my psd's to open in Elements more-or-less like they used to.
I should say that I jumped from Elements 9 up to 11, so I do realize there have of course been many many changes in the interim (I'd previously made the jump from 5 up to 9) and it'll take time for me to relearn, but this particular issue seems like it might be more of a glitch than me not knowing the new version yet.
I should also mention that the psd files don't have an Elements icon anymore - just a white square.

If Layers is greyed out it possibly means that you are in Quick Mode. Select 'Expert' and all the options should become available.
Try permanently associating psd files with C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and see if that fixes the issue. Instructions here - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/choose-programs-windows-uses-default.

I have upgraded to ITUNES 11, however I cannot move music from my lubrary to my IPOD Touch.I have tries the ADD TO option and all seems to work, but not visable on my IPOD

Hi Since updatig the firmware on my WD MY Book Live at the weekend, Time Machine has not been able to complete a backup. I get the message "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "NAS". The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features." Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone help please?

Unable to send web content emails from mail as web page since upgrading to the new OS X 10.9

I am no longer able to send web content emails from mail as web page. The images / layout no longer transmit. This started when I upgraded to the new OS X 10.9. The emails appear correctly in the orginal message prior to sending but once they are sent all the images and layout are removed. The sent message folder shows the emails in the changed versions vs what the draft showed prior to sending. If the webpage is only an image my final sent message will only show an empty box with an question mark.

Can I use Reader X to draw freeform lines on documents I "saved as PDF" from Word?

I would like to use the feature described as follows on the Adobe website: "Review documents with a complete set of commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps."
According to the website, Adobe Reader X can use this feature if the PDF has had that option enabled when it was created in more full-featured version of Acrobat.
I would like to know, Does a document that I've saved as a PDF from Word (using Save As) count as having that feature enabled?

With PDF files created using Word(Save As), you can only add sticky notes and use highlighting.
You will have to use Adobe ACrobat to create a PDF with has Commenting enabled for Reader also.

Saving Remittances to PDF

I have a machine that has recently had windows 7 installed and has SAP B1 running on it. It originally had cutepdf installed and an issue arose when going into Banking - Document Printing. When we select more than one AP Invoice to print then send it to cutepdf, it doesn't create all the files. i.e. if three AP INvoices were selected then it should save 3 files. It doesn't, it only saves the first. We had tried to download and install primopdf however the same issue occurs.
Would anyone have any suggestions or know of any compatibility issues with saving reports to PDF from SAP on a windows 7 operating system?

Please check the settings of your PDF converter, search for an option that states Append Document in Printing,
try to use other converter like Broadgun pdf.

Cannot Generate a PDF from Word 2007

I have inherited a 100-page file in Word 2007, and have just encountered a problem when generating a PDF. (BTW, I have Adobe Reader installed, and I have not yet receieved Acrobat for generating a PDF.) To reduce file size and to send the file to others in remote locations, I have been saving the Word 2007 file as a PDF, and it has been working up until today. When the file generated a PDF, it stopped on page 33 and asked if I wanted to send an error report. I have not changed anything on that page. There is a figure and a table on that page, in addition to some text. What could be causing the file to stop generating a PDF? I removed the table and figure, but still the file stops generating on the following page. I also have checked to make sure I do not have any styles that seem out of place. Could you provide me with some guidance on what kinds of things I should try and troubleshoot? Thanks!

If you only have Reader, you can not create a PDF. You would need Acrobat.
If you are "saving" as a PDF from Word, you are using the Microsoft PDF utility rather than Adobe's. You'll want to ask Microsoft support.
