Saving Maps as JPG's for Book Module Use

Does anyone know of a way to save a map with my data (locational) on it for import into the book module?

Sure, but that's really a work around and may not give you the bit strength to make a clean map feature in either the book module or slide show.

    Just wondering peter what you think, instead of output to pdf you copy and then create create new file in photoshop and paste into that file. Is that sort of the same thing?
    Seems to be ok especially if you enlarge the object before you copy it into photoshop.
    I think what you are pasting (never bothered to try this) is just the screen preview, hence the need to enlarge. Why would you waste your time doing that instead of exporting to a high-res PDF?

  • Looking for books published using iBooks Author

    I'm looking for books published with iBooks Author and there's no way to search for this in the store as far as I know. If you've published a book using IBA, please post the link in the comments. Thank you

    I´m thinking about what size of the text I should use.
    Right now I have size 16 Palatino and small blocks of text so it should be easy to read
    My experience is this: 16 point text looks (and is experienced as) standard print text in books.
    Here's a trick for iPad vermisilitude I use on my iMac with 1920 x1080 resolution: In iBooks Author I set the screen to "Fit Page" and then resize the screen manually to 92%. This very closely matches an iPad screen. In my case, it helps with selecting fonts.
    All the best.

    P.S. This would be better in a new forum.

  • Time saved as "00:00:00" for DATETIME item using OADateValidater

    Hi All,
    In OAF Page for MessageTextInput item DataType Property set as “DATETIME”. Then it is showing as “DD-Mon-YYY HH:mm:ss” Here requirement is, does not show seconds in that DATETIME item. Written below code
    String userDateFormat = pageContext.getOANLSServices().getUserJavaDateFormat();
    userDateFormat = userDateFormat + " HH:mm"; // Add Time component to format
    OADateValidater formatter = new OADateValidater(userDateFormat, userDateFormat );
    OAMessageDateFieldBean laborStartTimeInput = (OAMessageDateFieldBean) webBean.findChildRecursive("LStartTime");
    laborStartTimeInput.setAttributeValue(ON_SUBMIT_VALIDATER_ATTR, formatter);
    Now, on UI it is showing as "15-Feb-2010 07:30" but once I click on Save button data saved to DB as "15-Feb-2010 00:00:00". What is the wrong in above code.
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Srikanth

    Using OADateValidater to show Start and End time without seconds like “YYYY-Mon-DD HH:mm” in UI and while submitting NOT getting any JavaScript validation error message. But while saving into Data base time is saving as 00:00:00.
    Below code is using to show formatted DateTime on UI:-
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    String userDateFormat = pageContext.getOANLSServices().getUserJavaDateFormat();
    userDateFormat = userDateFormat + " HH:mm ";
    OADateValidater formatter = new OADateValidater(userDateFormat, userDateFormat );
    OAMessageDateFieldBean laborStartTimeInput = (OAMessageDateFieldBean) webBean.findChildRecursive("LStartTime");
    if( laborStartTimeInput != null )
    laborStartTimeInput.setAttributeValue(ON_SUBMIT_VALIDATER_ATTR, formatter);
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Here thing is that from convertParameterToViewAttribute() method of OAWebBeanDataAttributeHelper class, calling "stringToDateTime()" method of OANLSServices class. In “stringToDateTime()” method converting given text into format like “new OADateValidater(getUserJavaDateFormat()+" HH:mm:ss", getUserJavaDateFormat());”
    So, if I pass parameter text like "2010-Aug-10 10:10" it is parsing as "2010-Aug-10 00:00:00" and returning. Which is NOT correct. This is the reason, for given date and time saved in Data Base as “2010-Aug-10 00:00:00”.
    How to handle this to get it save time into Database ?
    Thanks.

  • How much do Canadians have to pay for books purchased using iBooks?

    What is the cost for Canadians to purchase books on the iPad?
    Regards
    Pete

    It varies by the book, just as prices vary in a bookstore that carries printed books. You'd have to mention a specific title before anyone could tell you the price. Or, if you have (or have access to) an iPad, you can just go to the iBooks Store and search or browse yourself.
    Regards.

  • Trouble with the Blurb Book Module in Lightroom

    I have successfully created & finished one book in the Lightroom Book Module using Blurb without any issues. I started a second one but now I'm having problems. I have a saved book started that I'm about 10 pages in on. But now I can't figure out what's going wrong.
    I have organized all the photos I want to use in the book into subdivided Collections. But now all the sudden - every time I click on one of the collections it goes off my Saved Book and just resets to a blank Unsaved Book. How can I add photos from my Collections to my Saved Book?
    Thanks!

    OK yes thank you. But that puts my 1200 photos that I've painstakingly organized into 25 different folders into one big jumble of a "folder."
    Is there any way to keep my photos organized and still put them in this one book?  I started the book out this way but something changed and it's no longer working to work that way.

  • Maps is very innacurate for australia

    Don't know about other people but my maps app, when i run it and type in the address i want to go to it maps it out and most of the time it tells me to go through a road thats been blocked off for 6 or 7 years or takes me through a park once.. is there an update to maps or whats the go?

    Unfortunately, iPhone is using old Google Maps.
    Prove that for yourself by using a PC and going to Google Maps directly, not through other services, which may also use older Google maps. You will see the direct Google Maps is about 1 year old or so.
    Google Maps are prioritised with use, so may be newer or older for various parts of the world. Also the cartographers depend on updates from local official services, councils, City Halls etc. My home town has a new shopping centre which was not on the map for five years, was updated at the last review but the roadway to it is not on the new map. In another part of town, a bridge, washed away 25 years ago is still a route option?
    Google Maps also use the pixel displacement algorithms, and as such can only be accurate with other Google Map devices. You ordinance map references will not match your location, don't use the iPhone to call down a fire mission

  • My (saved) book totally disappeared from the Book module in Lightroom

    Dear +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom,
    I have been working for the past 100 hours or so on a 200+ page book in the book module in LR4.
    Went to work on a second book that I had just begun to organize and came back to a full filmstrip (including the usage numbers showing me that all of the images had been used including a tiny 2 for a cover image) and the 4 blank pages we all see upon starting a project.
    My entire book was gone. Poof!
    I'm surprised you didn't hear my scream all the way in San Jose.
    This couldn't be...I had officially saved the book several weeks ago when I first began it and had been working on it steadily ever since.
    (For the record, I am working on a Mac OS X v10.7.5 and updated LR to v4.2.)
    I can't begin to tell you the sick feeling over losing this amount of work.
    I went to your LR forums to see if this was unique to me (Did I inadvertently hit a button I shouldn't have?)
    I have always felt very confidant in LR's "saving" and "backup" abilities. Now I am devastated and have lost total confidence.
    Do I try again in LR or move to another program?
    So a friend helped me find these:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4303611
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4322352
    (Which I've read very thoroughly and tried everything suggested.)
    When I opened my most recent backup of LR, all the text was missing and many of the images were in color (this is a book of monochrome imagery)
    Huh?
    When I went into my Time Capsule backups, same thing.
    No text and many images were reset to original RAW files as if no post-processing had been done.
    Huh? (Again)
    The thing that is genuinely unsettling is Adobe's lack of response to the issues expressed in the forums.
    Surely the book making ability is an important one to your audiences?
    Did I mention how sick I am over this?
    So my question is this...can you help me? Can anyone there help me?
    Because I really need help right now and don't want to lose confidence in a company that has always provided me with the tools I make my living from.
    Or should I put this out publicly.
    Right now I want to scream "Do not under any circumstances make a book using the book module in LR 4 until this devastating issue is addressed!!!"
    (Fortunately, I have over 2,000,000 followers here on Google+ but not to worry...many do not speak English or know Adobe as anything more than material used to build huts.)
    I am trying to stay reasonable. But again, I am very concerned over the lack of responsiveness on Adobe's part. Perhaps that will help get this problem addressed. Or more importantly, help a few other creative folks avoid how absolutely devastated I feel right now.
    (Big *******' sigh)
    Please respond. Please.
    Regards Alan Shapiro

    It states in the iBooks Store that this book can only be read on an iPad or Mac.

  • Unnecessary page limit for Blurb book in Lightroom Book module

    I'm posting this per Julieanne Kost's request following an email exchange regarding this topic.  I am in the process of making a photobook using Lightroom and discovered when I reached page 240 that I couldn't add any additional pages, much to my surprise.  I was surprised because I knew from Blurb's website that the limit for standard paper is 440 pages and mistakenly assumed that this limit would also apply within Lightroom.  I did more research online and found many others being surprised by this limitation after spending hours and days on a photo book.  I will likely work around this by exporting from Lightroom to .jpg and uploading to Blurb, but that will take extra time and effort and reduces the appeal of using Lightroom to create a Blurb book.  I had also tried exporting from Lightroom to .pdf only to find that the .pdf format exported by Lightroom is not compatible with the requirements of Blurb.
    My recommendation in the short term would be for Adobe to warn Lightroom Book Module users up front that Lightroom's page limits differ from those if going directly through the Blurb website.
    My recommendation in the longer term would be for the Adobe engineers to make whatever changes are necessary in the Lightroom code to allow for 440 pages when standard paper is selected (and more specifically to make the page limits match the limits of Blurb's actual books).  If there is any way to impress upon Adobe management the importance of this, I believe it would be greatly appreciated by many Lightroom/Blurb users.

    I agree with that (though a 330 page Blurb book would break the bank :-)
    I would also like to see the LR book module allow at least all the same Cover Templates as Booksmart does - I feel really constrained with both of them but much more so with LR...At least let us Drop a Full bleed finished cover on to the front and back covers!
    Lately, I do all the page making in PS, move to LR to manage the page numbering and then export to jpg and ingest to Blurb to make my books...pretty kludgy, isn't it?

  • When using Lightroom Book module for Blurb book making, why do I keep getting a low image quality message if it's supposedly accessing my large raw files in my library?

    When using Lightroom Book module for Blurb book making, why do I keep getting a low image quality message if it's supposedly accessing my large raw files in my library?

    I think I've solved my problem with a Google Search. I came across a free slide show generator
    (contributions requested) that shows much higher quality slide shows than either iPhoto or Aperture 3.
    You click on a folder of jpegs and it almost immediately generates thumbnails and within a few seconds
    I can be viewing a full screen, tack sharp, slideshow of all of the files in the folder. Much sharper than
    I'm used to seeing.
    I think I'll keep the Aperture 3 and use if for the purpose it's intended for in the future. I'll also redo the
    image preview files to the small size it started with and then I'll copy all of the files I'm interested in from
    iPhoto into a separate folder on another disk. I'll use Aperture to catalog and to perform image manipulations
    on but I won't try to use it as an iPhoto replacement. I don't think I'll be using iPhoto much as an image
    viewer in the future either after I finish moving my favorite pictures to the Phoenix Slides folder.
    The name of the free program is Phoenix Slides. It's free to download and try, free to keep (though I
    think you'd want to pay the small amount requested) and fast. My pictures have never looked so good
    before.

  • Feature Request - Book Module export to jpgs!

    So dissapointed that you can't export the books to anything but blurb (not really a pro photographer solution!) or PDF. My lab doesn't take PDFs, so I have to convert everything to jpg from PDF. Kind of a workflow killer

    Ditto. I just spent an hour trying to find either another source for books that accepts pdfs, or to get LR4 to produce a jpeg. Both failed.
    In order for the book section to be useful to professionals, it needs to output high resolution jpegs.

  • SRGB or Blurb icc profile better for soft proofing prior to Book module?

    As I understand it images destined for Blurb are converted by the Lr engine into sRGB behind the scenes. To achieve best chance of colour accuracy in the finished Blurb book, is it better to softproof using a sRGB profile or the icc profile* offered on the Blurb Support website. On the surface this icc profile is recommended (by them) for their Booksmart process. Anyone know if that is similar to the Lr Book module process? There is no mention of Lr anywhere on the Blurb color management pages.
    It would be great to pin down the answer to this. I cannot find any recommendation for best work practice aimed at getting good colour reproduction in these books; and trial and error, whilst acceptable in making inkjet prints, is a very expensive route when applied to printing a Blurb book.
    * And even then, as far as I can see, there is no method for differentiating between the Blurb papers. It is just one profile to fit all.

    I tried using 'Export Book to PDF' in the LR Book module with 'Book' set to 'Blurb' and the PDF images are all tagged as sRGB profile and 8-bit color.
    SUGGESTION
    If you set 'Book' to 'PDF' under 'Book Setting' you can use Adobe RGB profile, 300 ppi, and your own Sharpening selection, which as Andrew Rodney mentioned is a better choice. You can submit the LR Exported PDF at Blurb's 'PDF To Book' upload page and they will do the proper CMYK conversion on their end. The only issue is that the images are still exported in the LR Book module as 8-bit color JPEGs. This may cause banding with a wider gamut profile, but that should be apparent when reviewing the exported book PDF.
    Here are some comments from Blurb concerning using Blurbs 'PDF to Book' workflow, which is similar to what I just described:
    From Me:
    My Workflow Details:
    My objective is to process all images in LR4 and then export them as 300 dpi, ProPhoto RGB profile, 16 bit TIFF images for layout in InDesign using Blurb's InDesign plugin (Blurb Book Creator CS6 v2.0.2.34d8). I will soft proof the placed images inside InDesign using its 'Proof Colors' tool and the Blurb_ICC_Profile.icc profile. Once the InDesign layout is complete I will do the RGB to CMYK Blurb_ICC_Profile conversion during the export to PDF process using the Blurb PDF X-3 Export Preset v1-1.
    Blurb's Resonse:
    Response Via Email(David) - 07/18/2012
    Using InDesign and our Blurb InDesign Plug-in does mean you're using the PDF to Book Workflow. This is because your InDesign files will ultimately be exported/uploaded as PDF files.
    Regarding, "Once the InDesign layout is complete I would like to do the RGB to CMYK Blurb_ICC_Profile conversion during the export to PDF process":
      Unfortunately, there is no option for this and it's actually unnecessary during the export process. Our printers convert and process all images as CMYK using the Blurb ICC Color Profile, so even if you upload/export them with an RGB color profile, they'll be converted to CMYK for the production process.
    My Response:
    Customer By Email - 07/19/2012 05:10 AM Thanks for the explanation David. It sounds like I can just upload the PDF file using my ProPhoto RGB profiled PDF, but I would prefer to do the conversion from ProPhoto RGB to Blurb ICC CMYK profile. This way I can see the results before uploading the file to Blurb. Can I use the Blurb PDF X-3 Export Preset v1-1 with Output > Color Conversion to Destination > Blurb CC profile, and then upload the PDF file myself? If so please advise where I should upload the file on the Blurb website.
    Blurb's Response:
    Response Via Email(David) - 07/20/2012 03:49 PM Hi Todd,
    If you do end up exporting your PDFs with the workflow you're referring to, you can upload your files here:
    http://www.blurb.com/make/pdf_to_book
    IMHO there's no reason why Adobe and Blurb couldn't work together so ProPhoto RGB 16-bit images can be used in the book PDF that gets uploaded (or exported!) to Blurb's website. Blurb then handles the CMYK conversion using full-gamut 16-bit images and not clipped sRGB 8-bit images.
