Saving metadata error

I am using the 1.3.1 trial version. My images are stored on a network drive. Whenever I save the metadata to file on a JPG image, I get the error "Writing XMP data did not complete successfully". Also, after getting this error, there is a duplicate filename with a ".swp" extension left in the folder.
I do not seem to have a problem on my DNG files. I have not tried other file types.
As a test, I moved some images to my local drive, and do not have the same problem.

Don't use a network drive.

    Hi welcome.
Are you able to furnish information about which files metadata is being saved - RAW files (XMP sidecar files in reality), JPEG, TIFF, PSD etc?
Are there any patterns to this error message appearing?

  • Import statement vanishes while saving metadata

    Hi
I am facing a strange problem. When I am saving metadata the import statements are erased from the //begin import and // end section in the implementation section of a view. But all packages are present.
    Pease help

Check if there are errors with the metadata of your project, see "Problems" view in Eclipse.
Another possibility may be an exception in the NWDS, open the "PDE runtime" -> "Error log" view.
Do you find anything that might cause the problem?

  • Photo "...changed in external application" when saving metadata in LR2

I am getting occasional error dialogs saying that one or more photos have been changed in an external application when saving metadata. I'm quite certain the photos have not been touched since the catalog was built--two days ago.
I built an entirely new catalog after installing LR2. I changed some keywords as I not all images were keyworded in the same way. When I save metadata, either for an entire folder or for all files, I get occasional error dialogs about the image being changed externally. I'm quite certain that I changed nothing.
Running Win XP Pro SP2 + all updates except SP3, LR2, on Xeon 3070 with 3GGB RAM and lots of hard drive space.

If I didn't think my humor and irony would be misinterpreted as being rude, I might say "Why are you such a troublemaker, by asking this question? Don't you know from reading the forum, that there are multiple opinions about how LR works with changes done outside itself?" Ooops, I actually said it.<G>
But, seriously, I've had many of the same questions, so I've been following the various threads, and still haven't got a clear and relatively simple answer to "how to work with LR images and catalogs using outside applications, and not mess stuff up?"
So, again, seriously, thanks for asking. Hoping, like you, to get clearer understanding.

I was having an issue where each time I would modify a photo, LR would change the Capture Date to the Modified Date. Upon a quick search, I believe the correct way to stop this from happening is for me to uncheck the auto write to XMP which I did. After correcting the myriad of inadvertent date changes, I selected all the photos I was working with and attempted to save the metadata only to get this warning/question: "One or more of these photos has been changed in an external application. Should Lightroom overwrite the settings on disk?" I searched this and I'm confused because I'm not editing the photos in an external application; the only external app that is even remotely touching these photos is Dropbox, which is where my LR catalog is stored. Does Dropbox have something to do with this message or am I missing something? To overwrite or not to overwrite is the question now, I guess, but I'd like to figure out why this question is being posed so I can fix it from the start.

  • Saving Metadata time

    Hi,
I'm trying to figure out why saving Metadata is so long with huge PSD files. It takes some many time and sometimes I get the Windows error message "Delete Write Failed". I would like to know if there really is a link between the Metadata and the PSD size. Do you have answers according this ? Or any ideas/solutions for fixing this problem ?
    Thanks

    jboissinot wrote:
Oh yes you're right, the error message is "Delay Write Failed" because of it takes too much time for saving Metadata.
By the way, I also work on a server, do you think it can be a network issue ?
I think you have it backwards. It is taking too much time to save the metadata because of a disk I/O problem. I don't know if it's because it's networked or because that drive is starting to fail. But I am willing to bet if you take X's advice and save to a local drive you will see that it doesn't take much time to wirte the metadata.
As X explained most of the time the size of the file does not matter. Only the metadata section is updated and the rest of the file is left unaltered. So it takes the same amout of time to update a 20mb file as a 200mb one.

  • XMP Metadata Error when creating PDF/A-1b

    Hello,
I just started using Adobe Acrobat X for Mac to create PDF/A-1b documents from scanned TIFs.  I created a script in the Action Wizard to 1) Combine Files into a Single PDF; 2)Downsample image resolution to 150 ppi (bitmaps to 300 ppi); 3) Recognize Text;4) Pause to find all suspects and make corrections to incorrect OCR; 5) Convertto PDF/A-1b (sRGB); and 6) Verify compliance with PDF/A-1b.
When I use the Action Wizard to to execute the script above I receive an error message stating "Metadata does not conform to XMP."  However, when I execute each of the actions manually I do not receive the XMP metadata error.  It takes a long time to execute each action manually, so I am hoping there is some way to make this full script work in the Action Wizard.
I have an open case with Adobe regarding this issue, but so far no solutions.

I do not receive an error when the "Verify compliance with PDF/A-1b" action is removed from the script.  Does this action have to be performed separately to avoid the XMP metadata error?

I was having this issue as well, after doing two things: updating iTunes yesterday, and installing and running ClamXav, a Mac antivirus tool.
I have now fixed the issue, first I made sure that I had the proper permissions for iTunes and it's library folders. Then I completely removed ClamXav and all its related files and restarted iTunes.  Now I no longer get this error when adding new media to iTunes or updating apps, and the library file saves fine.  For some reason I think it was related to the antivirus software.
I think it was a coincidence as ClamXav only modifies permissions on the files it installs and none of those are anywhere near your iTunes folders, but I'm glad you got it working.

Lightroom is not saving metadata. I have done several things to save and I still get the tag that states is is not saved. I have also created 2 smart collections. One showing metadata has been changed and one showing metadata is not up to date. No matter what I do it is not showing in LR that it is saved. I spent 2 days with Seth Resnick trying to correct this and we re created my catalog. It was ok, until I imported new images and same problem. Now I have a new problem, when I bring image to PS it saves it but does not bring back to LR. Am I the only one out there who has this problem?

  • Excel saving issues error: Someone else is working right now, please try again later"

Excel saving issues  error: Someone else is working right now, please try again later"
I am running W8.1 with Office 2013 and accessing a shared drive, When I try to save an excel document back to the shared drive - I get the error msg
"Someone else is working in "servername\share\filename" right now, please try again later"
I can see that there is no one else accessing this file at all. I created a brand new file, added content, saved and got the same error.
When I use a W7 with Office 2013 accessing the same share drive, accessing the same file - I am able to save the document without issues.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be.  Both of these situations are while working from home using a company vpn connection. It does not happen when in the office using either W8.1 or W7.
    Peter.

    Hi,
Saves when saving locally. Its looking more like W8.1 on a VPN connection that is causing the issue. What can I look for
I mean you can try to save it to local drive(like drive c:) and then copy it to shared drive.
If you gain the access to the shared file server, you can check the file status when you open this file.
Also you can check your event log to see which process causes this error.
Since I'm not familiar with VPN, I'd suggest you post your issue to the following forum:

  • Problems with saving metadata

    Hello,
I have a new NAS and have started moving photos across to it.  I have noticed that I am having issues saving metadata.
e.g. i move 39 images to the new location, I then received messages saying that meta data is not in sync with file date.  I can correct this but some files metadata cannot be saved.  I get a "photos have read-only access", obviously it's not RO as I just uploaded them.
If I repeat the save metadata action over and over, the number of affected files decreases until eventually they have all saved.  I can then wait a few minutes and  repeate the metadata save and 10 files or so are read-only again.  Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Can anybody offer some advice for me on what is happening here?

  • Rewrite aborted due to metadata errors

We have installed the version 1.4.50111.1 of the Code Contract and we have this error every time we compile our application. We use a thrird party product "DotNetRemoting" and the main DLL of this product is making this error when we activate the runtime
    checking in the code contract.
In the library, we use the SyncServer class and where we create a new instance of the server, we have error in the compilation.
SyncServer Server = new SyncServer(); // Make the rewrite aborted
The error in the Output windows for the build is :

ccrewrite : error : Rewrite aborted due to metadata errors. Check output window
Does anyone did have the same problem ? A way to fix it ?
    Thanks

Is there any chance this will ever be fixed?
I don't understand why the code contact even needs to verify the contents of the 3rd party libraries.
In my case, I am running into this issue and I have written both the 3rd party library and the one using it. The 3rd party library consists of a number of projects which are then combined into a single DLL using costura/fody.
The code contracts work fine within the library itself, but once the library is included in another project nothing works, because everything is now under a single DLL / embedded, so the contracts obviously can't be run.. but I actually don't WANT them to
    run anymore.
How do I make the code contracts only run within my project and NOT include them when I build my 3rd party library?

  • Finding 'Invalid Metadata errors'

I have a project (Flash Builder 4, 4.0.0 SDK) that now gives me an "Invalid Metadata Error".  It shows me the file, but no line number and no other indication as to what is wrong.
I've gone through the code line by line and don't see any errors, as it worked before.  I started commenting out lines and functionality with no success.  I've worked my way back to things I added to code by deleting them and the functionality I built.  No luck.  Still give me the Invalid Metadata Error.
Running in debug mode doesn't even start cause it throws the error first and when I say continue it doesn't.  Go figure...
I've searched for similar errors and the causes and fixes are all over the place from coding, to skins, to AS3 issues to whatever so no help there.
So are there any Flash Builder guru's out there that can help?

I finally spent about 3+ hours going through the code line by line.  Comment out a line. Run. Fix? No?  Uncomment line.
The problem?  A line where I concantanated a string + the value from a database + string.  All strings, no numbers, no nulls.  Just putting 3 text strings together.
Have no idea WHY this would not work, it just didn't.  I've seen plenty of examples of code where a returned database value is concantanated with another string.
The frustration is that if the compiler finds the error, recognizes the error, stops the process....it would seem that it could at least provide more then "invalid metadata error" in an unknown location.  I think it knows exactly where the error is.
And the terminology is a bit confusing also.  When I think of "metadata", I don't think of text strings being displayed on the screen....

    Hello,
Prasenjit is right: if you want to prevent orders with error from being saved you will have to code... and this is standard behavior. Check that link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crm70/helpdata/EN/47/53cba0c6c805ebe10000000a42189b/content.htm
Writing your code in method EH_ONSAVE is one option that will be valid for WebUI only. You may also consider badi ORDER_SAVE if the same checks should be performed for background processing also, data replication, etc. but in this case read the following thread carefully as it may lead to lots of issues:
