Saving metadata manually - saves to all files, not only touched

Since "Automatically write XMP" didn't work properly before version 1.3, I'm still not using it in 1.3. Still a little scared.
My idea is to once in a while select all pictures (or just right click the topmost folder in the folder view) and select "save metadata". But I did some tests now with various images, and this command actually wrote metadata to ALL selected files, even though no keywords, metadata or adjustsments had been made. The import was done with no preset too.
So how do I ensure that only changes I have made are written to the files and that old files remains untouched? And what imaginary metadata does it write?

Some files may have had metadata written by other applicatons (IPTC - not XMP), but the recent test I did yesterday was fresh files from my cellphone-camera. So what I did was first to select just a few images in the grid and select "save metadata". All files were updated (both the timestamp and the archive-attribute. And with the archive-attribute changes, everything will be backed up again if a normal incremental backup procedure is used). I also right-clicked a folder in the left pane and selected "save metadata" and the same happened.
So I did not do this operation on my whole library, still not trusting LR I prefer to test things in small scale first. Lucky for me.
I checked the files and what had happened is that XMP-data was written to the files. This is just like when I turned on "automatically write XMP" on LR 1.0 - it updated all my image files, even those that was not changed. So it seems I have got almost the same situation again.
So, no - it did not re-write files that had already been touched. This is the first time LR writes to the files, but I don't see why it should write to files that are not changed. I don't agree that LR needs to write to the files once. Why should it? What should it write?
Did this make sense?
Funny, I'm listening to an old Lightroom podcast right now and the team says that one of the design ideas was to be friendly to existing image catalogs. Saving data to unchanged files is not really friendly.

Bugreport: Seed updates all languages, not only the selected one

I just encountered a "Bug" when seeding a multilingual translation.
It looks as if SEED would insert only values for the chosen language mapping (good!), but in case of an update overwrite the values in all languages, not only the chosen one.
I know it is not that bad, but causes some irregular statistics after seeding.
e.g. my applications main language is "eo", language mappings for "en", "de", "es".
When i change a single text (e.g. button label) in the main app and do a seed for "en" i get "3 existing attributes updated and may require translation" (because there are 3 languages...). when i do a seed for "de" right afterwards i get "0 existing attributes updated and may require translation".

I am guessing from what you say that you want to '''find''' (Ctrl + Shift + F) instead of '''global search''' (Ctrl+K) or '''quick filter''' (Ctrl + Shift + K)

Print only allows to save as All Files* - will not print .pdf

Had Reader 9, now 10. Received document, saved as .pdf. Attempted to print this .pdf, but when click Print, document needed to be saved again, but was only giving me format as All Files* to save in. Still did not print. Have checked all Printer settings -still won't print. Conflict in 9 and 10? Do I need to somehow reinstall 9 - as that was working?

but why would the advanced tab change as I never had changed that feature in other .pdf s . Is it default with 10?
Usually the printer shows - Print to file, and allows me to change the format, whether as a .docx, .jpeg or .pdf, but that option wasn't available.
Technology is changing too fast for me to catch up and master!!!!

Bulk save as psd file not saved with Maximize Compatibility selected in preference

I want to do a "bulk save as" for psd files that were not saved with Maximize File Compatibility selected in Preferences. I'm trying to import those files into LR5 but I get an error message. Or is there a work around for resolving this issue? I have both PS CS6 and PS CC. Also Bridge for both. I've just subscribed to LR5.

LR does not support Layers, PSD files may have layers so you may have a problem using LR to do what you want to do.
Set your Photoshop Preferences to always save with Max Compatibility.
Record a save action one step menu File>save.
Then use Adobe Bridge menu Edit>Find to find all your PSD files.
Then select all and use menu Tools>Photoshop>Batch and if your lucky and don't catch an Adobe Bug Photoshop will start and the Batch dialog will open, You can the set the Save Action Set and the Save Action all the PSD selected in the Bridge should open and saved.
I cancelled the search short here the search for all psd files could take a very long time and did not run the batch.
You will have a better chance not catching an Adobe bug if Photoshop is not up and running when you use the here. Bridge may try to start a different version of Photoshop then the one running when you use menu tools>Photoshop>Batch. Bridge CC was updated to start CC 2014 there is no bridge CC 2014.
This site scale image poorly you can scale them if you view them in a new tab or window.

Hallo, and thank you for reading this.
I am a person who saves a lot of images online and renames them in different folders in different names like B - 34 or G - 56. I have been working with firefox 10 for quite some time and it had a pretty handy bug (I guess) where I could save an image and firefox would just save the image in it's original type (JPEG,PNG etc) while "save as type" was empty.
It also always has shown all the image types in the folder where I save the images (except for GIF) and that helpes me quite a lot by saving me the trouble of selecting "all files" every time I save or going to the folder to rename every image.
Now this seems to be lacking in the newest firefox versions and my question is if I can set firefox to always show me all the image file types when saving an image, instead of only showing JPEG's when I try to save a JPEG.

I suspect this is a Windows problem. I am surmising the FilePicker uses the Operating System or Desktop facilities. Does Windows 7 offer any other file categories like ''images'' ?

Save for all users not working

I created a query in the rich client and selected "save for all users", but still cannot open it on another server. Has anyone else experienced this? I am on version 12.3.1 build 684.

I just did a Save As and checked the "Save for all users" box. I think I have to check "Remove document security", but that's grayed out); Deski only had the one option and it worked fine. There error I received is:
The document has been secured on another cluster. You cannot open this document on the current cluster. To open it, log on the right cluster and save it as unsecured. If the cluster is not reachable, try to connect to the following system : '<server>'. If this system is not reachable or not online, try the previous offline session with the connection ''. (WIS 30910)

How to select/ show all files NOT currently in a Collection?

Is there an easy way to show all files in a catalog not currently assigned to ANY (non-smart) collection?
Can i set up a Smart Collection to do this?

Photoshop 11 problem with all files not able to display

I recently purchased PS Elements 11. Somehow my photos trippled and in some cases more. I have spent hour deleting triplicate photos and cleaning up folders, tags and pictures. It has been a mess. Yesterday I was working on a Tag and clicked something, not sure what. Now I can only view 1 photo out of around 10,000. alll of the folders and Tags say no media displayed when I click them. The all media shows only one photo. I looked in my recycle bin and the photos are not in there. Any questions or suggestions out there? As you may imagine my frustration level is high!

If on windows OS open up Window Explorer and see what is happening. What you are saying does not make sense. Would avoid deleting stuff until you figure out what is going on.

'Save Medadata to file' - but only some?

Hello, I read an Adobe Lightroom discussion from November 2011. I am looking to start using Lightroom (have been using capture nx2) but need something answered please:
It stated that 'Save Medadata to File' will copy most but not all of the metadata changes that you have made within Lightroom', which got my attention, and seemed a bit worrying.
It suggested that this problem was for both proprietary raw formats with xmp sidecar files, and dng files (also TIFF etc I think). I also understand, or think I do, that it's only a problem
when you export from Lightroom to another editing program (or photoshop at least). I also read something similar on a recent post here, but I didn't find it very clear.
The problem is that some things are not included in the metadata write command....the develop history, stacks, collection membership, flags, virtual copies.
All of these things, apart from maybe flags, I need, and can't imagine that I can't use these important options, so I really must be missing something. And surely I would need to save the
metadata to file to send images to NIK software etc for further editing. I read it that if you stay in Lightroom there is no problem, as I think the catalogue has all the metadada, but that
won't happen, or not all the time.
I don't understand this, and can't quite believe it, so would be most grateful for advice, thanks

The truthful answer is that I don't know why I want these items written. It's just that what I read seemed to make a negative out of it, but
I don't know why. Perhaps you might be able to clarify why this might be a problem, if that's what it is - I mean in what circumatance(s)
might this be a problem?
I just presumed that it might prevent me, within Lightroom to use these features - or did they mean that they would just not be available
to someone I might send the files to, or whatever?
I will just need to edit files in Lightroom (I will be changing my NEFs to DNGs, editing in Lightroom, using NIK software/maybe other
software too, and sending photos to a website such as Zenfolio, and also to a printer or whatever)

Willwhen I back up my book Mark files is a json format is saved to the desktop. The file is only 30kb, this is too small. what's going on?

Possibly it is that your expectations are wrong regarding the size or the file.
Why not examine the HTML file see if it seems to contain all your bookmarks. It may open as a Firefox tab if you open it using
*Firefox Button ->File -> Open File
An alternative method would be to open it with a Word Processor capable of handling HTML, or even any WP or Text editor as that will still give you a good idea of the content.

On Win7 computer, how can I see all files on iPod touch?

I have an iPod touch 4.3.5 (8L1), model MC540C. When it's plugged into my Windows 7 computer, I want to be able to see all the files (not just the photos). What must i do to see all the files?
My ultimate purpose is to copy one file: the voice recording I created in the Voice Memos application. (The audio file is too big to be sent via email.)

User can see all resources, not only Permitted for his/her Organization

I have set three self-serviceable resources as Permitted Resources for a specific organization. So if I click on Permitted Resources for that organization I can see only those three...
When an user of that organization clicks on Request New Resources, all self-serviceable resources are listed to the user, not only the Permitted Resources. I thought the user could see only the permitted resources...
If I log as sys admin and Request Resources for an user of this organization, I can see only the three permitted resources.

Sorry, but I do not understand your last reply. You mentioned the following:
for option B, even when option A is unchecked, you can set self-request only for a specific organization when assign permitted resources.
Isnt this what you wanted? You should set the resource as permitted resources in all the organizations whose users can request that resource. I have implemented this and it works just fine. It works for both types of requests. a) My resources -> request new resources and b) Requests -> Resources -> Grant resources.
In case of b, depending on the organization to which the selected user belongs, the Resource is displayed. all resources are not displayed.
So the solution is to uncheck in RO and put the resource under specific organizations permitted resources and make it self-requestable. It should work fine. Let me know your exact issue if it does not work this way.

How can I delete all files not authorized for this computer?

first off, I promise right here and now, that I will never buy a DRMed song or video again...
And here is my probelm: I'm using my Mac and iTunes for ages and all things were perfectly fine. I used to have a girlfriend and both of us had our iTunes accounts and were buying stuff everyday.
After some time we split-up and I kept the computer with the files and the authorization - no worries.
But then my LogicBoard died. Now apart from the fact that all over sudden half of my music that I used to listen to for years doesn't work any longer I also have a lot of explaining with my new GF to do.
Ok, guys, please help me out: How on earth do I find ALL the songs that were bought with that specific account and just delete them? (So what, if half the music is gone, but I have to act one fast!).

Just to let everyone know that there seems to be NO solution for this problem. I contacted the iTunes Support and they told me to go through the library one by one and delte all the songs manually.
Well, what can I say? I wasted many hours of my life, I went through thousands of songs and delted hundreds of them manually. I'm very frustrated with Apple that they don't provide a function to solve issues like that more elegantly and I'm even more upset with the content industry. I still feel that the music industry is not interested in people enjoying their legally bought products and hope that the current economic downturn wipes out the music industry as we know it.
I like music, I like to support musicians (not the studio bosses) but I hate the fact that when we purchased DRMed music in times where everyone was using P2P and alternatives like iTunes Plus and Amazon MP3s I, as an honest customer, am now much worse off than if I had pirated the music.
My advice to all: Hands-off DRMed songs and movies! You will end up in trouble even if it seems to be all easy now and it is just not worth the pain!

Not all files not showing within Preferences folder

I encountered a strange problem with my Preferences folder in the User Library. As I am moving from one machine to another I need to copy some preferences files. The files exist when you search for them in the Finder. As it seems though only preferences files from A to C are displayed when looking into the folder (option - Go Folder). Any ideas?

Thank you very much, but this dows not solve the problem I have. I am able to open the Preferences folder, so I do see .plist files, but not all of them! Only files beginning with letters from A to C are displayed, then the list simply ends. The files however do exist. When searching via Finder/Spotlight for a specific file, it is listed in the results and the path displayed shows Users/.../Library/Preferences.

How to save site--all files

I haven't used DW in years. I've created a simple site that
starts off with an Index.html file and there are about ten html
files that it links to or link to each other.
How to I save the complete site as a unit that I can then
upload?
E.g. do I have to have all the html files open/tabbed or can
I just have the primary/home file open and then
save/export/whatever.

Did you set up a local site folder in DW yet? That's where
all your site
files should be located. If you look at the files panel you
should see the
name of your site folder, and inside that should be all the
site pages,
