Saving MP3 files in a different format

I currently have an extensive MP3 library already tagged and named to avoid doubles. I wish to import this library into Itunes but had noticed with a test import of a few hundred it is renaming them.
Is there any way to change Itunes so that when it renames the mp3 file name it will be the format of <artist> - <song> instead of just <song>?
Also is there a way to change the folder it is saving to also? The format I would prefer is <Artist 1st Letter>\<Artist> or just <artist> instead of <Artist>\<Album>.
Thanks for the help

No and no.
You can turn off "keep my music folder organized" and "copy files to iTunes library". Then it won't touch your songs names or locations or what have you.

  • Action to open and save multiple files in a different format

    Photoshop CS5
    TCS 3
    I haven't used actions before.
I want and to open all files in a folder of one format and save them to a different format.
    How is this done?
    Thanks
    Rob

Assuming you have all one format and would like to just open all the files and save as a different format without changing anything...
One way, using Photoshop and actions and automation, would be to define an action that just does a File - Open then File - Save As to a different file.
To define an action, in the ACTIONS panel create a new set and a new action, then just record the steps on an existing file. Once done, hit the Stop button.
Once this very simple action has been defined, use File - Automate - Batch... to set up to run the action on a whole folder full of files.
You'll likely want to use the [ ] Override Action "Open" Commands and [ ] Override Action "Save As" Commands options.  The latter option allows you to do things like specify the JPEG save quality in the action, and not be prompted for it every time.
Your Batch dialog may look something like this:

  • Can I get back a file that logic deletes... Well I did but I had thought I saved the file under a different name?

Hi. I have been using logic pro on the computer at music school... A Mac pro... Anyway, I was recording a friends band. W got some awesome takes down. I was then doing a little post, saved the file as one name and then stared working on it under a new file name. Anyway, logic came up with a splash that asked if I would like to delete the original file, and I clicked yes, as I thought I had saved the session under a different name just earlier. Anyway, I lost everything. Ok... Shirt I thought... But I managed to find everything in the recycle bin. Except one awesome take of an awesome song, I am a little bit heart broken as I've gone though the sessions undo file in quite some detail, but I seem to have lost it. I have access to the file on my Mac at home (MacBook pro, and logic express 8 I think) cool that I can open logic pro files in logic express, but anyway. Anyone want to offer me any solace? I think a solution might be too much to ask for....

If you were using OSX 10.7 then you could go back to a previous version, but you have overwritten the file.

  • Saving existing files in their native formats

It's really annoying that Numbers insists on saving in its own proprietary format. Is there a way around this and is there a chance that the default behavior would ever be changed?
I've just had my first experience with Numbers since it was pre-installed on my new machine. I was opening a xlsx file a colleage had emailed me. I imagine that for many (business) users who don't create spreadsheets, this is a typical first interaction - opening an existing spreadsheet that somebody else has created. Business users are almost always using Excel or maybe you're opening a CSV because it came from a reporting system.
After making a small tweak to an existing CSV or XLSX file, Numbers prompts you to save in a new format - thus creating another file - or you can delete the new version you made. This isn't very user friendly.
Here's a common case. You might download an address template from a website in XLS or CSV and then fill it in and re-upload it. Workflow is very difficult in Numbers and especially so for a novice user. It's not intuitive to have to go to the export menu to save it in the same format it was already in.
For some background, I run engineering at an ecommerce startup and I've used Excel, OpenOffice and Google Docs for years and typically stick to the latter two these days since they're free. We install OpenOffice on all our Macs to crunch bigger spreadsheets (vs Google Docs) and of course like that it's free.
I realize that the native format has its advantages and Apple also has reasons for wanting to convert to their own format, but in some cases where fidelity isn't affected, saving changes to an existing file just makes a lot more sense.

I was primarily looking for supported way to solve this use case but it sounds like that isn't available out of the box. In that case, no need to spend any more time looking into this. SG, your workaround is pretty admirable and that's a good idea, but it probably doesn't make sense usabillity wise when you could use a text editor if you were advanced enough as you mentioned or just use another program.
Wayne, as you suggested, I submitted feedback from Numbers itself so hopefully that helps the Apple team understand this use case better.
For internal use, it sounds like using another program is the most straight-forward way for this case (for average users). However, since we have a website with tons of Mac users, it's realistic that the default xls or csv handler on their system is Numbers so there won't be a way around that. Of course we can't tell users on our site to download a script to make saving a file any easier (since it would be harder), so I think the best thing is to give users instructions with the steps I outlined even though there are lot of them. It sounds like there's no better way for general users.
Thanks for all your help guys!

  • Does re-saving mp3 files result in audio degradation?

    Any Audio Gurus out there?
Does opening an mp3 audio file, editing it, then re-saving,
compress it more, resulting in additional audio degradation?
It is my understanding that opening jpeg files, editing them,
and then saving them results in additional image degradation.
Do mp3 files react the same way as jpeg files (each time you
    save them they degrade more)?

    Hey All,
Thanks for looking into this. The good news is I have answered my own question. The bad news is the answer is "HAD TO WAIT FOR 7.3!!!!!"
Yes QuickTime has solved this bug with the newest version. Also if anyone has created QuickTime files in h.264 (using QuickTime 7.2) and needed to re-save for any reason, you can now re-save these files again in 7.3 and the browser player's audio level will default to the highest setting as it should.
Again thank you to everyone who spent anytime searching an answer to this bug.

  • Why is Firefox saving all files in "firefox document" format?

When I try to download a file by 'save target as' the only option I get is to save the file in Firefox Document format ( url.htm ). Why is that happening?!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Cannot download Mp3 files and some other format

     Hi people,
I cannot download Mp3 files and many other files. I cannot update my Ovi Store app and pretty much everything else. I can download pdf and zip using opera but almost everything else (including mp3 and sis files) redirects to Nokia browser which just freezes no download. I have tried another same model phone E72 and no problem.
It seem my browser is corrupt and can't find way to reinstall.
Also why don't nokia let us download with browser of our choice? I would rather use opera than inbuilt one

    Hi evstevemd
Apart from loss of data issue in the circumstances you may have to either "hard reset" or re-install existing firmware to eliminate possible software corruption.

  • Premiere won't accept new source files in slightly different formats...

I'm using CS3 (and I installed CS4 and got the same problem).  I've created a video using six different source videos that were originally encoded in XVID.  I now know that was a bad idea but at the time I didn't know how to convert the video so I went ahead and used them.  Now my project crashes to the desktop whenever I open it without any sort of error message.
This is a project that I started over a year ago and I set it aside because I didn't want to deal with the issue, but I really want to finish this project.  Now I have a better handle on what sort of codecs work well with premiere and I use Super C to convert the videos to a friendly format and I haven't had any problems with my projects crashing since then.
So now I've revisted the project that is crashing and I have tried converting the original source videos to a more friendly format, but hte problem is, even when I get it to a format that is pretty much exactly the same settings as the original (size, fps, etc) premiere won't accept it.  When I open the project and it asks me "Where is the file..." I'll point to the new file and premiere tells me "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match original file's type (audio and video)".. I try this after opening the project by right clicking on the asset and choosing "link media..." but of course I get the same error message.
What i've gotten done in the project is like 10 hours worth of work and it would be a shame to lose all of it just because Premiere is too picky about switching from one media type to another .. what are my options in getting this to work?

    Welcome to the forum.
Yes, Xvid is a delivery-only format for delivery-only, but you know that too.
What I would do would be to Open that original Project, and then Offline the original Video. If you named the converted files the same, except for the extension, you should be able to then Import the replacement files and manually replace those. Make sure that when you choose to Offline the Assets, that you do a Save_As, so that the original Project is NOT overwritten - keep it safe.
You might try to Relink from the Project Panel, before you do the Import. I do not know if that will be allowed, due to the extension difference, but that would be the easiest way, if it works. Try that first. With the material Offline, Rt-click on each AV file, and choose Link Media. If you used the same file names, you should be able to find the converted versions. Let us know if this works, or if you get rejected.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to save a raw file in a different format

    change file type from raw
Message title was edited by: Brett N

From Adobe Camera Raw set the depth to 8 bits and click the open image button (bottom right) and that will send the image into the regular Editor. From there you can use File >> Save As and then choose jpeg or any other format you want.

  • No file-type extensions appear when exporting files to a different format

    Hello.
I have been having this issue for a while on both Pages and Numbers.
Whenever I export a file to another format (e.g., pdf, txt, doc, or xls) the file appears WITHOUT any extension at all. I have to go to the file, click on the file name and type in the proper extension at the end of the filename.
Frankly, I'm tired of doing this.
Does anyone know of some way to fix this?
    Thanks for your help.

Try to run Pages from an other user account.
If it behaves flawlessly, we will know that the culprit is in your original user account.
In such case, most of the time, the wrongdoer is the preferences file :
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.pl ist
    Quit Pages,
move the file on the Desktop
    restart Pages.
If it behaves well, you will know the culprit. Move it to the trash and work … until the next corruption.

  • Same crystal file is having different format between BO XI R2 and BO XI R3

    Hi,
we are migrating from BO XI R2(BO version 11.5.11.1470)  to BO XI R3.1 SP3(BO version 12.3.0.601)
We have a test.rpt (crystal report) which when deployed in BO XI R2 and exported in pdf behaves differently when same rpt is uploaded in BO XI R3 and exported in pdf.
The differnce is: In R2 the two text boxes donot overlap with each other but in XI R3 same text boxes overlap .
So, is there any particlaur patch or any configuration required in R3 , so that the reports developed in R2 donot have any formatting regressions when deployed in R3

Thanks for your quick reply !!!
are you able to run your report on-demand in the InfoView?
--> I receive my error when I open/run  the report.
Which version of CR Designer are you using?
    -->  CR 11.5.9
Any chance to upgrade? There is already SP6 available for XI R2.
--> We project to migrate to R3.1 this year but we want to show report earlier ( if it's possible on R2 of course ).

  • Opening ipod mp3 files on a different computer?

My friend brought over his ipod to show me. We hooked it up to my mac to check out what would happen if I wanted to copy his stuff to my itunes library. Just got a mesage asking if I wanted to replace the stuff in his library with the stuff in my library. Nothing happened. Tried to open up the files in the ipod on the desktop icon and there was nothing in there. BUT. Hooked the ipod up to my windows pc and I could open and play the song files and everything. What gives?

    This is illegal?
Yes, sharing copyrighted material such as music is not legal. Your friend owns a license for that content... not you. It would be illegal for both of you to have that content when only one of you paid for it.
But, why can I authorize music that I bought on itunes to be played on 5 other computer's?
You can authorize 5 of YOUR OWN computers. You can't legally authorize your friends computer to play your purchased tracks.
My freind should be able to authorize his music the be played on mine
    Not legally.
He should be able to play his dam ipod where ever he wants!
He can. No one is telling anyone where they can and can't play their iPod.
It is legal to make copies of matireal you have bought yourself isn't it?
For yourself, yes. You can make all the backup copies you want, if you're the only one using them.
Wouldn't copying my friends music be legal then?
No, this is a violation of copyright law.

  • HT3775 how to open a video file that is different format

how to open media plyer video file in mac?

If you're talking about Windows Media files (WMV, WMP, etc.) then Flip4Mac will allow most (unless they have DRM) to be played in QuickTime.  VLC will also play them.  There may be other solutions.

  • I have mp3 files that i'd like to get to iTunes .

    Hi
I'd like to know if there is a simple way to convert mp3  files for iTunes...
    thank you

    Hi robinsuekall,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  You do not need to convert mp3 files to a different format to add them to your iTunes library.
Adding music and other content to iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht1473
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder.
    Enjoy the music!
