Saving My iMovie HD Soundtrack to MP3 or CD Audio

I have just completed my first iMovie HD project and now I want to just save the soundtrack of the movie (dialog, music, etc) to either an MP3 file or to an audio CD. I tried exporting the movie to Garage Band but ended up with just the audio track that was recorded on the video. Is there an easy way to create a "soundtrack" album of your movie?

Hi x-xp - Yes there is.
Go Share>QuickTime>Expert Settings>Sound to AIFF
The resulting file can be imported into iTunes. If you did wnat it as an mp3 file then that can be converted from within iTunes......and of course, in either case, recorded onto a CD.

Did you do the moving of the image file in the Finder or do you have a reference library as asked by Larry? In either case moving the files is a recipe for disaster as you've found out. You must either move the files back to their original locations or try to get those photos back into iPhoto as follows:
1 - Find the folder you moved the files into and COPY it to the Desktop.
2 - in iPhoto delete the photos that you're having the problems with as you normally would even though you can't see see them. Also delete all the photos that are in the folder you moved the other files into.
3 - drag the folder on the Desktop into iPhoto to import them as one event. If you get a duplicate warning I'd let it import the duplicate and use Duplicate Annihilator to find them so you can cull out the duplicate you don't want.
Other than that you might have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

  • How to bring my valid iMovie into Soundtrack Pro as a multitrack?

Hello kind people. My most hummed song right now is "I can't get started with you." To my shame, I am unable to bring my valid iMovie into Soundtrack Pro as a multitrack. I have brought the audio alone, but that leaves me grabbing at air. There must be a simple way. Who will tell me how?

Try exporting a Quicktime movie from iMovie, then drag the quicktime movie onto the video track (or drop it into the video window) in Soundtrack Pro.

  • Saving a imovie

How would you go about saving a imovie to you computer then burning it to a DVD?

You would have to export the movie to your camera roll and then connect to your computer.  Then you can use any DVD authoring software to burn.

  • No sound when clip uses mp3 for its audio source in iMovieHD

My finished DVD plays OK on computer DVD players, but when I put it in a set-top box (I've tried on two), it plays the main chapter muted. I've experimented with all possible audio settings on my set-top DVD players to no avail.
The iMovie project contained three chapters. The first and last chapters play OK, and they use camera mic audio. The one in the mddle uses mp3s for its audio, grabbed from my iTunes library (they are not DRM or anything like that).
Any ideas? I'm using iMovieHD/iDVD 6, my QT is 7.1.5

Search this forum for imported iTunes music into iDVD and you will see there are many who are having very similar issues with these imported mp3 files. The topic has been well covered already. Has it been completely resolved yet? ..... No.
However, you should follow the advice on these posts carefully and make sure to use apple's software updater to help resolve many of these known issues.
I believe John Griffin's reply /post sums up the current status well:
I suspect burning out to a CD and then pulling back in would work, but I'd love apple to do better than that. Being able to bang out a DVD in few easy steps is (was?) the appeal of the Mac/ILife suite, and I don't have the time or inclination to make the process more complex.
I just installed a new ITunes update that must have come out in the last few days, and, drumroll please,...... the problem persists....

  • News ALERT: It's Not iDVD ..It's iMovie!!!!!! Audio Encoding

I'm very sorry but I found the prooblem:
When iMovie 'encodes the audio' ... it falls apart..
I saved the iMovie 'video & audio' to my camera .. and that is when the audio 'crapped out' .. for whatever reason. Which you would never find this unless you watched ( and listened ) to the tape.
    The PROBLEM IS WITH iMOVIIE!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope that this resolves my recient posts.

When iMovie 'encodes the audio' ... it falls apart..
When does iMovie encode audio? When importing some non-AIF format or some non-48kHz audio? Could you give more info about the problem, please.
I know that iMovie can introduce pops or gaps during a title or transition or that sometimes there might be audio sync issues but I'm not aware of other audio glitches. Sometimes there may be audio tracks missing but this might be an user error, too.

I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?

I going to recommend again, downloading and installing some video helper applications.
    1. http://perian.org/ (this will add a number of different file types to the ones QuickTime already plays)
    2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac (will add more file types to what QuickTime can play)
Either one of these might be necessary to get MPEG Streamclip to export the video. Failing that the only other thing I have found is an obscurve discussion thread on Avid.com:
    http://duc.avid.com/archive/index.php/t-277791.html
I've figured out what the problem is on my end. The video came from Avid on a Windows machine and was encoded with Squeeze. I found out that the 2 seconds of black at the top of the video were at a different frame rate than the rest of the video. I chopped off the 2 seconds of black and started at the first frame of video, exported it with Quicktime Pro and was able successfully view the video in ProTools. Apparently Squeeze will let you create a movie file that has different frame rates within the same movie... This fixed my issue that was exactly as you describe, hopefully it might work for you.
Lastly, you could try converting the video clip using HandBrake

  • Can my iMac play back mp3 or  mp4 audio?

I would like to know if I can play mp3 or mp4 audio files on my iMac with OS X Yosemite. iI is a 27" 3.2 GHz with an Intel Core i5 and 8 gig memory. I am interested in an audio bible study in that format. I appreciate any help I can get.
    Thank you,
    Lee W.

Of course. Mp3 is universal standard. Mp4 is a standard based on Apple audio/video specs
Pretty much any Mac can play either format natively.
The included Quicktime player should be able to handle the formats without any issues.

  • Mp3 or similar audio files on Adobe muse websites

I need to embed mp3 or similar audio files on several different Adobe muse websites, why has this simple task not been provided for? Is this going to be available? Otherwise I may as well dump Muse and use some other software that can actually achieve this basic necessity...
    Rob

I believe www.musegrid.com has just offered a widget for audio playback.

  • Saving an imovie project to DVD that can later be re-edited?

I have many imovie jobs saved on 4 external hard drives. Problem is I am running out of space. Is there any way to save a completed imovie project onto a DVD that can still be fully edited?
    Thanks, Beth

Yes, you can always save files onto a DVD as a data disk using Disk Utility or something like Toast to burn the DVD. Of course since projects (video footage) tends to be a lot larger than a DVD blank, you might have to manually break up the project onto several DVDs, then reimport them later rebuilding that project folder again as it was.

  • Saving an iMovie and Burning a DVD

I'm pretty new at this. Have only had my iMac 2 months but have done remarkably well (and am taking classes). I'm confused about saving a project. Once I make a movie in iMovie and I want to burn a DVD....what do I do? I know I click "share" and one of my Apple trainers said to then click "media browser" but a book I have says to click "iDVD". Can I click Media Browser and then what do I do to burn the dvd???? Seems like there are alot of ways to do everything. Help. I'm dying to burn my Visit to Washington Movie but I'm not sure what to click on!

    Hi
You need a book - The Missing Manual of iMovie 09 and iDVD by David Pogue
    Love it.
Export/Share to iDVD - referes to iMovie up to HD6 (previous versions)
Now You do - as suggested - Export to Media browser
    Close iMovie
    Open iDVD
    Here import from Media Browser
Select encoding quality - I love Pro Quality (but takes abot double time)
(My Mac 1 hour movie - takes about 2.30h to be done)
    Burn
(I usually make a DiskImage first (File and down to Save as a DiskImage) and test
this with the DVD-player tool in my Mac - just to see that everything is OK)

  • All my videos are automatically being saved in iMovie but not in Videos.

I had a real fiasco with a movie rental on my iPad, and ever since it automatically deleted the rental, my iPad wont save any of the video I take in the Videos app.  All video automatically goes to iMovie now.  Do I need to mention how annoying this is?  There's no setting to change where videos automatically go to apparently.  This is a bug in the system..

DOH!  Thanks Johnathan, this is my first iPad, though I can't even recall how many Apple computers I've had.  I've never used an Apple product for taking photos and video before.  I always used a camera before, but I'm planning on getting a new Canon DSLR to pair up with the iPad.
OK, so now how can I set it so my videos don't automatically load into iMovie, or is that just not possible?

  • Importing Itunes Store purchases into Imovie for soundtrack

I'm using Ilife 05. If I import a tune, purchased from the store, if affects the video quality, which becomes jerkey. Tunes from my Itunes library, which were not purchased, have no detrimental effect on the video.
This was not originally the case, so not sure if it has been a software update issue.
    CAn anyone help?
ps. I note the file extension on the purchased itunes is .m4p and the import is quite slow, whilst the file extension on my cd itunes is .m4a, and the import is very quick into Imovie.
    Many thanks

    Interesting question Mum!
What I wrote is certainly true, but a few months ago I found that music downloaded from iTunes UK (where we both source from) imported without difficulty into iMovie.
I even posted here to the effect that the 'protection syndrome' requiring the CD intermediary stage did not apply in the UK (where copyright laws are somewhat different than in the US)
Then suddenly I found the opposite to be the case and had to resort to burning tracks to a CD and re-importing into iTunes. Closer examination showed that older recordings of, say, 1950-60s jazz and of classical music recorded pre-1980 or thereabout did not seem to be protected, whereas more modern recordings were.
What we download are CD tracks stored on server hard disks. If the original CD was not protected then the copy on iTunes servers will not be either.
Just the luck of the draw!
