Saving my Photoshop Project as JPEG

I recently downloaded the new Photoshop CS5 Extended trial version. Before I had the Regular CS5 with no extension. With the regular cs5 Iwas able to simply click 'save as' and save my proect in jpeg format. Now, when I do this, it says that the file can only be saved as a copy, and it does not save the layers. When I go to open the picture, altho the icon shows the full picture, it says that it can not be opened because the file is not supported. Mind you, when I save the project it also saves as jpeg, but in MB instead of KB. Can anyone help me please?

One more time...
If your document has attributes (mentioned above) that must be changed / flattened / converted / thrown out /molested to save the image format you've chosen, Photoshop saves it "As A Copy".  It does this because it doesn't want to allow you to lose all the fancy things you've done without your having reconciled them yourself first.
If everything about the document will be preserved by saving in the format you've chosen, then you can Save As without "As A Copy" and the document default name will be changed.  Photoshop assumes this is your new master document.
It tells you what the reason for "Save As Copy" is via that little "caution" symbol.
I personally requested the "Save As Copy" functionality from Adobe for 16 bit images several times over the years, as I usually work in 16 bits and like to save draft or review imagery in JPEG format.  BRAVO and THANK YOU to Adobe for adding this feature in CS5!  When I used to have to change the document to 8 bits before saving JPEG drafts, occasionally I'd forget and end up leaving the document in 8 bit mode.  Not good.
Keep track of what you're doing, and what's available in the format you've chosen, and "Save As Copy" will never surprise you.
-Noel
P.S., You can see files you've recently saved in the format you have chosen via the little pull-down box containing the file name near the bottoms of the File - Open and Save As dialogs.  Yes, even those saved As A Copy.
P.P.S., There's a configuration item that allows you to separate the defaults stored for the File-Open and File-Save As dialogs.  Changing that may help in your case, Lawrence.

The file was corrupted somewhere along the way (assuming it was still readable on the Macintosh).
The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files...

  • Images saved in Photoshop CS6 as PNG or jpeg won't open on Windows computers

I recently saved an image on Photoshop CS6 as a PNG file so I could send it as an attachment to a client (who uses a Windows computer). They told me the file wouldn't open and instead showed as an "Unknown File".
I tried opening the file on my Windows computer, as well as a JPEG version to test out, but both came up as "Unknown Files".
The only way I could transfer the files I saved in Photoshop was to export them as PNG through the 'Preview' application.
Is there a reason why these normal formats won't open properly?

  • Jpeg thumbnails too small when saved from Photoshop

Since moving to Snow Leopard, I notice that the Finder shows jpegs saved from Photoshop quite a bit smaller than jpegs saved using other apps, like Preview or just scanned images. This makes viewing the thumbnails in the Finder harder. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
I would post a screen grab to show this, but I can't see how to do that here. If anyone knows, please let me know.
    Thanks

That's because Photoshop creates its own rather smallish icons (by the new standards) for the files. If you remove custom thumbnails and let Finder draw them they'll be scalable all the way up to 512x512. There is a preference from within Photoshop to tell it to NOT create icons. Go to PS prefs, select Saving Files, and turn off Image Previews. The advantage is that the icons can be drawn larger; the disadvantage is that they will appear in Finder more slowly, since instead of simply displaying what is there Finder has to draw the icons. Furthermore, Finder doesn't always draw the icons with the clarity one would expect: sometimes they never do appear as sharp as they ought to be (there are several very lengthy threads discussing this problem, with no real solution), sometimes they slowly appear in all their large glory.
Oh, and to post a picture, as in my signature, you have to have the image available somewhere online, then add an image tag.

  • Muse strips off digimarc copyright in jpeg files saved in photoshop. How do I prevent this from happening?

In Muse, the digimarc watermark I added in jpegs saved in photoshop get stripped off when uploaded to my website. How can I prevent this from happening? The jpegs are set to their exact size in Muse. Thanks.

    Hello
My procedure is to resize the original psd file in photoshop, change the mode to 8bits, apply the digimarc filter and then save as jpeg. I place the file in Muse without changing its size and upload. I then right click to save the uploaded image from my website and bring it into photoshop to verify the digimarc watermark. The digimarc filter shows there is no watermark at all.

  • Trouble importing JPEGs saved in Photoshop.

Here's a brief description of my workflow: I shoot Canon EOS 350D, import RAW files into Lightroom, correct them there, then edit some pictures in Photoshop, save as JPEGs and when all's ready, import the shoot into iPhoto because I prefer to keep the images there.
But I'm frequently having troubles with the JPEGs saved in Photoshop: iPhoto gives me an error that the files were in corrupt format and could not be imported. However, I can open em up in Preview just fine. So I have to re-import them into Lightroom and export them again from there. This time the images get sucked into iPhoto just fine. Any ideas what might be causing this? And what is the solution?

This sounds like the Photoshop Color Profile bug. Check out this thread:

It's one of many but there's a solution - of sorts - in it.

  • Photoshop Doubling my jpeg when saving

So when i save a Jpeg, even if i dont edit anything it will double the size..... if i use ViewNX2 to save it it will be about 10MB ... but then i go to photoshop and save it without editing it it becomes about 20MB ... but that same file i can go back to ViewNX2 and save it and it will bring it back down to 10MB .... What is the deal? Whats going on.....

What's going on is the compression rate varies each time you save it depending entirely on your settings.
Let's say you save a JPEG with ViewNX2 at maximum compression, then decompress it by opening it in Photoshop.  It will of course balloon in size.  Now you compress it by saving in Photoshop at maximum quality, which means minimum compression.  Of course it will be MUCH bigger than the original ViewNX2 JPEG.
There are a bunch of possible variations between these two examples, always according to your settings.
It's perfectly normal and expected behavior.

  • Saving raw file as a jpeg

I recently got a new computer and loaded photosop CS2 and elements4 on it. Unlike my old computer the raw plug in opens in elements it used to open in CS2. This in itself is not a problem however I dont seem to have the option of saving a file as a jpeg as I used to. All it will save it as is a DNG which is useless for what i need. It used to be so simple before. Would appreciate any help or advice but please dont make it too technical as I really am a computer numpty.

Just a shot in the dark, as I don't use either Windows or Elements:
ACR is crippled in Elementsin more ways than one. Try clicking on the Open button, rather than Save, then save in Elements as a JPEG.
You can (and should) change your File Type Associations in Windows so that ACR is hosted by Photoshop instead of Elements.

  • Images saved in Photoshop appear with distortion horizontally across - like a faint line

Images saved in Photoshop appear with distortion horizontally across - like a faint line.
It happens in all formates I try such as JPEG, TIFF, PDF and PSD files.
It looks like broken pixel lines across and if it runs through a word or logo can break it up.
    Please help???

I know you cant see probably from the photo below as I had to try to block out the faces, but the person on the far right, under her eyes you can see almost a double eye and then if you follw that line across the 2nd person from left look like funny chin.
    This distortion happens horizontally.
Also see the letter number below. That break line runs across the entire page but is obviously more noticable in different areas of the image.

How do i stop photoshop cs4 from quitting unexpectedly when saving a photoshop pdf? i attempted to download the adobe drive 5 but the installation keeps failing. I went through the process of clicking through the how to's and the troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that I need to install the adobe drive 5 but I can not complete the installation. I may be incorrect on this so I need immediate assistance as I have poster and ad deadlines. I also tried disabling the gatekeeper and solution 3 on the troubleshooting of slow saving on photoshop.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thank you!

Are you attempting to save the file to a network location instead of your local hard drive? If so, this is probably why you are encountering an issue and why Adobe Drive would be the solution. As we've documented, it is a bad idea to open from or save directly to a network source: Networks, removable media | Photoshop | CS4 and later. Drive can help you get around this by setting up an Adobe supported virtual connection to the network. Thus, if installing Adobe Drive is the solution you need and your need help with installing Drive, please post to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.
If you are not saving to a network location, then Adobe Drive is not going to be the answer. Then we'll need to know more about the file you are saving.

  • Some images saved in Photoshop CS will not open in Photoshop 6

We have confirmed that some files saved from Photoshop CS will not open in Photoshop 6. This is due to a bug in Photoshop 6, not in CS.
These files open correctly in Photoshop 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 7 and CS on both platforms.
The solution is to upgrade the copies of Photoshop 6 to Photoshop CS.

    Hi sig,
I actually did try reinstally Photoshop - even reinstalled my operating system. I looked for the file "Adobe Unit Types" and see that it is indeed there in the ScriptingAdditions folder. But I still cannot open the tif files.
I should also mention all my tif files have the .tif extension on them (in case anyone suggests that's the issue.)
And, this problem is the same with Illustrator CS .ai files as well.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks.

  • EPS files placed in InDesign can't be saved in Photoshop until the ID document is saved

    Hi!
I'm wondering if there's a way around this problem.
When mounting an EPS images in InDesign that image can't be saved in Photoshop until the InDesign document has been saved.
Is there a workaround for this problem?
It doesn't happen with TIFF files, for example.

What Bob means here is that when Photoshop opens an EPS it instantly rasterises it. Whereas you can save an eps with vector shapes, vector masks and type and it outputs as vector, once it's reopened in Photoshop it's completely rasterised by default.
The preferred format would be a PDF as this would retain the vector shapes, masks, type for both editing and output.
A psd will output everything as raster at the native file resolution, although you can open the PSD file and edit the vector elements.
If the original EPS from the OP has no vector elements and is just a raster document, then it won't do any harm opening it in Photoshop.
    EPS won't support layers though.
Whereas PSD and PDF (version 6 and above) do support layers.
There's plenty of info in this document regarding the subject - http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/cs4/articles/cs4_printguide.html (links are on the right to download the document)

  • Video file saved as photoshop CC is missing links in layers panel & video cannot be found in the timeline

I installed photoshop from the adobe online and all files have to be saved as "photoshop cc".  This new program does not give the option to save a file as photoshop cs6, etc.  I created an animation/video as a photoshop cc.  After a few days of returning to my saved file, some links are missing in the layers panel and the video/animation in the timeline cannot be found.  You would have to have downloaded the new photoshop from adobe online to know what I am talking about.  Can anyone help with this issue?

I don't do 3D animations, but Seb Zaremba said it worked in the former Photoshop CC. You can have both version installed on your computer. Go to the Creative Cloud app and Apps>Filter & version>previous versions. There you will find the installer for CC (2013). Give it a try.

  • Why are my video edits not being saved on Photoshop CS6?

Why are my video edits not being saved on Photoshop CS6?
I made a TON of edits in a video group, then duplicated that group into another file... and all my edits are gone.
I spent hours working on this, so please let me know what the hell happened and how I can make sure it never happens again...
also--why would CS6 come with such a devastating feature?!?! Who came up with this???

    Welcome to the forum.
I did not see any reference to Save, Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy. Did you use one of those?
    Good luck,

  • I have saved a photo project as a pdf document. The album is no longer in iPhoto. Can I move the album back to iPhoto ?

How do I move a saved photo book project back into iPhoto. I saved my project as a pdf document before sending to Apple for publishing. Now it is not in iPhoto projects page. ??

sorry, no, you cannot import a pdf-file as a book project.
Have you hidden your books in iPhoto? What is your iPhoto version?
In iPhoto '11 you could try to hover with the mouse to the right of the "Projects" headline to reveal the Show/Hide button.
