Saving options in Camera Raw in Elements 12.1

When saving a picture in Camera Raw in Photoshop Elements 12, the only option given for the format to save the picture is DNG. Due to batch editing opening the file back in Elements 12 is not an option. I have seen Youtube presentations where a hole list of different extensions are available when saving a picture in ACR, why is it not available in my ACR?  The ACR version in the Youtube presentation is 8.1, I have tried it in both 8.1 and 8.5 with no success.
Thank you in advance for your help.

What I am trying to do is to batch edit and save 1000+ pictures that are jpg to start with. I can't seam to find a way to do it. If I use "Open" all pictures will have to be saved individually witch takes a long time for over 1000 pictures. I love time lapse photography and as a result I am often in this situation.
Is there a way to batch edit and save pictures in Elements + ACR?
I have been requesting the ability to choose to edit a batch of selected files in the ACR module directly from the Organizer without success.
Why choose to edit in ACR instead of the editor? The main reason would be that you can use the same settings for the batch. Typical situation: adjusting color temp.
Another way to batch convert jpegs to DNG would be to allow the DNGconverter to accept formats like jpeg, png, tiff...
http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/enable-jpg-conversion-for-dng-conver ter
So, my answer is that today, you can't batch convert to DNG from jpegs in the Organizer or with the DNGconverter. Does it sound a difficult technical question?
I just checked that you can select jpeg files in Lightroom and choose to export them... in the DNG format.  Now, you should understand what Adobe is expecting from you!
That said, LR is a wonderful software, which is probably the answer to your present needs. No limitations like in the ACR module of Elements, and a wealth of tools like presets.

How to open JPG, TIFF files in camera raw from Elements 10 organizer.

Thanks for that Damead, I agree with you that Organiser is real pain (there is a total lack of intuitiveness if that is  the correct word).
For my own work I use 'Lightroom' for around 90% of the time, only going into PSE10 for the 10% difficult bits the Lightroom can't handle.
I only needed to sort out the JPEG file opening method within PSE10 for some freinds in a small Photo Group that I run in Woodhall Spa, UK. 50% of the 12 members are beginners & a number of them do not have Raw capability on their Camera's, but now they can get their JPEG's into Camera Raw within PSE10 they have the same simple tabular form of adjustment sliders (not as many as in Lightroom of cause) but it gets over the labourious problem of going thru the PSE10's individual tool selection process each and every time since we are trying to get everyone in the Group working with individual Tools rather than the 'Auto' functions. We do this so that they learn what they are doing rather than staying 'dumb&happy' within Auto all the time & they also learn how to get more detailed control for each photo.
Ref. your comments on file handling/usage, I agree with your comments. Its far and away much more preferable to set up a file structure in 'Finder" (or in 'Explorer' if still using Windows) that you understand so you always know how to find the files. Also, I also never ever use the Camera Auto Load programme but physically 'drag & drop' photo files direct from the 'card' into the file system so I always know thier place (ie: they go into the location I want, not that which the Auto Loader wants).
As regards your comment about 'Lightroom', I don't have any problems at all since I just imported the whole of my photo file structure into the Lightroom Library Catalouge and then it automatically shows up on the LHS of the screen, still in that format, so you can search it direct within Lightroom and display all of the photo's in variuos arrangements and sizes; everything is as easy to find as it is in 'Finder' plus of cause you have all the 'Tagging' possibilities to use as well. As you add more new files into the 'Finder' structure, all you need to do in Lightroom is reimport, starting 1 level up from the new files and Lightroom will find the new files that need loading (ignoring the older ones already in the Library at that or lower levels) then 1 click and its done.
Your comments about getting others to follow a set file structure is very pertinant and also applies to evrything else that one ever does apart from just photo work; the times I have had to help others find info/files etc on their PC's because they don' know the location of anything is too many to contemplate.

  • Camera Raw in Elements 9.03

I wnat to edit photos from my Sony rX100 in camera raw using elements 9.03. I've updated to camera raw 6.5 which seems to be the latest update for Elements 9. the RX100 isnt supported until camera raw 7.2. is there any plug-in I can install to allow me to do this edit or do I need to buy a later version of elements?
    Thanks,
    Rich

Hi Rich, for your camera you need PSE11 or PSE12 (the current version). Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

Do you really mean this error happens during download, or does the download complete and the error arise during installation? Where are you downloading ACR 6.7 from?

  • Camera raw and elements 11

I can't get the latest version of camera raw into elements 11. Please help! It doesn't show up as an update, and the downloaded version says it's incompatible. Version 7.1.0.354 came with my load of Elements. It seems that the latest version is 7.4 (or 8.2, depending on where you look).
    This shouldn't be so difficult.

Yes, "updates" is not an available selection. So I used the applications manager, and it tells me I am up to date. But that can't be the case.

  • Camera Raw for Elements 6.0 - how do I purchase plug in?

I am trying to use Camera Raw with Elements 6.0.  Does this come with Elements and I just can't find it, or do I need to buy a separate plug in? The updates on Adobe say that it doest not recognize my file type.
    Thank you!

Your best bet is to use the free version of DNG converter and watch this video to learn how to use it:

  • I am looking for Camera RAW for Elements 11 for a Nikon D610

Does anyone have the link for Camera RAW for Elements 11 for a Nikon D610?

According to the Adobe Supported Camera List - a D610 needs ACR 8.3:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
According to the Adobe Apps list, ACR 8.3 only works with PSE12:
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
So either upgrade your PSE to 12, or use the DNG Converter 8.3 or 8.4, to convert the NEFs to DNGs that PSE11 can read.  The DNG Converter can be found, here:

  • Camera Raw for Elements 10 for the Canon EOS 7D MkII? Downloading

Is there a "Camera Raw" for "Elements 10" for the "Canon EOS 7D MkII"?
If so could I please have the link to where I can download it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The Canon 7D Mk II is currently not supported by any version of camera raw.
It is expected that Camera raw 8.7 will include support and we are hoping that it will be released soon.
PSE 12 has ceased to be updated - you will either need to update to PSE 13 or use the DNG 8.7 converter (when it becomes available) to convert the CR2 files to DNG files - PSE 12 will then beable to use the DNG files.

  • Where is the "Settings" Option in Camera Raw 4.1 in Elements 5?

I'm using Elements 5 on Windows XP Home Version. Where is the "Settings" Option on RAW 4.1? On RAW 3.5 it was underneath the Histogram. I need to copy settings from a previous RAW file, so I can combine two images into one. The Help Menu on Elements 5 tells me how to do this, but the "Settings" Option it mentions isn't displayed on the screen.
I'd be grateful for any advice.
    Thanks

  • Camera raw in Elements 12 - Using the database instead of xmp sidecar files

    PSE12 ACR
Is there somewhere some documentation about using the option to save the ACR settings in a database rather than in xmp sidecar files ?
I have found the location of the 'Database' file in C:/Users/[my name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/
    Several questions:
    - how to ensure that the 'Database' is backed up with the built-in backup process in the Organizer ?
    - that Database seems to be independent of the catalogs
    - How is the Database updated if you move or rename files from the Organizer ?
    - What happens if you already have xmp sidecar files when you choose the option of the Database in the ACR dialog ?
    - If you upgrade catalogs from Elements to Lightroom, are the settings saved in the database recognized by Lightroom ?

What is your screen resolution on the computer you're running PSE8 on?
ACR requires a vertical screen resolution of 768.  If you're on a small laptop or a normal-sized netbook, PSE will skip the ACR-user-interface and go directly into the editor.
The update for ACR will be on http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and choose Camera RAW - Windows/Mac at the top, and then after choosing the ACR version, the page that comes up should have a link for a PSE-specific install process.  The text on the main ACR update page will have the Photoshop instructions so you have to look for a link for the PSE instructions.  It should involve downloading a ZIP, extracting the files, and replacing the plug-in file manually.

  • Camera RAW and Elements Hang during Thumbnail Generation...

Ever since I upgraded to the newest version of Camera Raw, I have been having issues with Photoshop Elements hanging while automatically generating thumbnails, anyone else notice this issue?
Hang is not quite the right description... So I import a batch of pictures and PSE starts processing the files ("Generating Thumbnails" is in the tool bar at the bottom). After a few images are processed, it just stops. If I try to force an update of the thumbnail ("Update Thumbnail" option under the Edit menu), a broken image just come back. No mater what I do, it just sits there and will not resolve the thumbnail issue until I close out PSE and go into task manager and make sure that the task is killed.
On the other hand, while I can not get the thumbnails generated, I can go into the Editor with a raw image and it opens in Camera Raw without any problems.
Anyone else having similar issues? Know anything to try?
    * Yes I have the most recent version of Camera Raw. When I downgrade to an older version of Camera Raw, the issue seems to go away.
    * I can not use the old version all the time because I have a Nikon D300, which is only supported in the newest version. I confirmed the working of things with some of my D200 files.
    * I am using Photoshop Elements 6.0, mainly for organization of all my images because I take a lot of them.
    * I am doing this on a Windows XP x64 machine
    * Based on a post someplace, I did check that my default printer on my machine is set to a printer that is always on the machine (PDF writer) and not a network printer/printer that has been disconnected.
Thank you for any help/suggestions that anyone can give me...
    -Matt

Have you tried the Elements forum?
Not many visitors here have Elements, mostly PSCS and Bridge.
If you where using Bridge I would suggest to purge cache and or refresh the preferences but I have no clue if this is possible in Elements? :-(
    Edit:
Do you have enough RAM installed, generating thumbnails from RAW can take a lot of energy from the OS...

  • Camera RAW and Elements 8

I have Elements 8 running under Windows 7. Elements 8 does not support my camera (Nikon D3100) so I have downloaded the DNG converter to turn my NEF files into DNG files. When I open the DNG files in Elements I do not get the Camera RAW interface panel on the right - Elements just treats my file as a normal JPG file. I have tried OPEN AS a DNG file but no luck. Is this what should happen or do I need to do something else to get the camera RAW panel up?
    Thanks

Looks as though I am between a rock and a hard place. I have done as you suggested and it works. The only problem is that I had to change the screen resolution down to 1280x720 when I first installed Elements 8 in order to read the elements options - the writing is so small at a higher resolution. So I am having to go back to 1280x720 to read the screens and therefore can't use the camera raw interface. Will this still be a problem for me if I upgrade to Elements 10??
