Saving PDF as 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) after comments inserted?

I have Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.
I have printed an email, word file, etc to PDF ensuring using 1.4 in Distiller.
I can open the file with Acrobat 5.0
However, if i make any editing, comments in the PDF file, when i save, it changes it to 1.6 therefore, it cannot be opened with Acrobat 5.0.
Therefore, i end up having a compatibility problem.
Thanks for any help you can provide

Thank you, it worked
I have the Standard version, so the reduce file size is the only option available to me.

  • File formatting issues when saving PDF as PPTX in Acrobat XI Pro

    Hi guys,
I have some issues when I'm saving my PDF (initially comming from InDesign) as PPTX. The format is suddenly changing, leaving a blank zone, and some of the pages are rotated.
Is it a problem comming from the Indesign or from the Acrobat options itself? I have already tried changing the chekboxes in the option box when I'm saving, but nothing worked.
If someone has an idea how to fix that, i would be very grateful! Thanks in advance

Which dot version of Acrobat XI are you currently using in your export?  Is the PDF file tagged?  If not, then you may want to tag the PDF file before exporting it.

  • How do I move a saved .pdf photo in adobe/acrobat to my photo gallery?

I currently downloaded Adobe Reader to so that I could view and download .pdf documents and photos. I also set up the acrobat program so that I could save the .pdf photos onto it. There is currently a picture I have that is a .pdf file that is saved in acrobat. However, I would like to know if there is a way I can save that to my photo gallery or photo stream so that I can then make it my wallpaper. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but any help would be appreciated!

  • Saved PDFs remain 'open' until Acrobat X Pro exits.

Any number of PDF files created or edited by Acrobat X Pro then saved and closed (Ctrl+F4) nevertheless remain 'open' -- ALL of them.  None can be moved, renamed or deleted by Windows Explorer or accessed by other Windows applications (e.g. Quicken).
Only completely exiting the Acrobat application actually 'closes' these files.
Acrobat X Pro did NOT exhibit this behavior until some weeks ago, so some minor update of Acrobat or Windows would seem a likely cause.
This is Acrobat X Pro 10.1.6 running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1.
    Please advise.

There have been posts about the problem for quite some time. It has not been repaired. There is apparently an issue with Acrobat releasing the file in Windows OS. I think this problem may be OS dependent. As far as I know it is not an issue on the MAC.

  • Adobe acrobat 8 exits without saving pdf

When creating a fully functional PDF from a word file using 8.3.1 Acrobat appears to complete the conversion but then exits.  There is no PDF saved.

I was using the Acrobat tab on the ribbon; when I use "print to file" it seems to run to completion correctly.
When I used the Acrobat tab things appeared to run normally with the progress window getting to the "Now printing page n..."  "Relocating files" and "Creating PDF tags"; then the window vanishes with no file created.
Print to File is not entirely satisfactory because it doesn't create bookmarks and so produces a less useful PDF.

  • Saving PDF to last folder

I have Adobe Reader X 10.0.0, PDF Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x). I have been saving PDF's for years, and each time I save, it goes to the last folder I saved to? The other day, I had approximately 15 PDF's that had been scanned to me, and after I had saved 5 of these documents normally, it then started going straight to a temporary folder, and has done ever since, which means I have to go through all the folders to get the one I desire? I have spoken to our I.T. department and they believe its a problem with PDF and not with our system, and I believe otherwise. I can use Recent Places, but when you have done the same thing for years, and the amount I do, change is not always good
Has anyone encountered the same problem, and can help?

    Hi Kat,
This is a bit geeky, but the signature appearance that you see on the page is not the signature, but just a graphical representation of the actual signature. The actual signature is a blob of hex encoded data in the PDF file that you don't really see. That aside...
When you create a digital signature the first thing Acrobat/Reader will ask you to do is select a digital ID to sign with. Acrobat then reads the digital ID and amasses some information to use to create the signature appearance. It then fills in the form field (a signature field is just a special use form field) with the appearance, BUT the signature still hasn't been created. The next thing Acrobat does is asks you to Save the file to disk. This is more geekiness, but it much safer to compute the signature byte range on disk then it is in memory. The simple explanation is it's harder for the bad guys to manipulate the bytes on disk then it is for them to control the bytes in memory and because a digital signature provides document security we err on the safe side and require the file to be written to disk before the signature is created. The other safety item is, we want to sign the signature appearance so that someone can't come along later and modify the appearance without breaking the signature, so it (the appearance) has to be created before the signature proper is created.
So at this point you've seen the signature appearance and thought that the signature has been created, but it hasn't. When you try to save to the network folder something is preventing Acrobat from saving the file and what ends up happening is the file is rolled back to the pre-signature state and the signature appearance is removed. The file is in essence untouched.
All of that aside (which is probably more than you really wanted to know) the real question is why can't the file be saved to the network folder. This isn't really a digital signature issue, but rather a network permissions issue.

  • How do I add a functional "submit button" to a pdf form in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI ? I created the pdf form in Adobe Forms Central.

How do I add a functional "submit button" to a pdf form in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI ? I created the pdf form in Adobe Forms Central. It's for an online Diet Questionnaire. After people complete the form I'd like them to click "SUBMIT" and the completed form will be emailed to me.

This can be a bit confusing because Acrobat 11 comes with the desktop app that allows you to create simple PDF forms without having a FormsCentral account. Some people find this helpful, but you need to understand that when you generate the PDF form, it is Reader-enabled by Acrobat. In order to edit the form further in Acrobat, you have to create a non-enabled copy of the form. You do this in Acrobat by opening the form and selecting: File > Save a Copy
and opening the copy. It is not opened automatically.
You can now add a button and set it up to submit by email, either using a "Submit a form" action or the submitForm JavaScript method. You can set it up to include just the form data or the entire PDF, and will want to use a mailto type URL. Submitting the form to the FormsCentral server has a number of important advantages over email (much more reliable, more secure, etc.), so you might want to consider it.
If the form needs to be saved with Reader versions prior to 11, then you will need to Reader-enable the document. In Acrobat 11 you do this by selecting: File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools

  • Problem Saving PDF with Opacity Masks in Illustrator CS3

I'm having trouble exporting an Illlustrator CS3 file to PDF. I have two layers in the the .ai file that have opacity masks applied. When I save the file as a PDF, the two layers with opacity masks seem to disappear (or they are flattened down to white/100% transparency.) They do not show on screen nor when printing. I've tried opening the saved PDF in Illustrator to investigate, and the layers are still there, but with no opacity mask. Where am I going wrong? I've tried a new file with a simple shape and a simple opacity mask, and it exports fine to PDF. So something is wrong with my file set up, but I can't pinpoint what! I have also tried exporting to various versions of PDF, and nothing works. Help!
    Screen cap from Illustrator:
    Screen cap of PDF:
Correct (Illustrator) with subtle starburst effect:
    Wrong (Acrobat PDf), no starburst!
    Thanks for looking!

Not sure what's going on in your file, but it's definately having a problem with the Steaks layer. Trying to release the clipping mask and ungrouping all the layers is having a problem so it might have something to do with the way the streaks layer was built.
Using your file I replaced the streaks layer and put a starburst that's clipped to the icon shape. I've attached two files. One is for Illustrator CC so you can retain the gradient fill on the stroke which is only available in newer versions of Illustrator. The other has the starburst I created expanded so that you can open the file and retain the startburst look.

  • Problem saving pdf from preview

Since upgrading to 10.4.3 I have noticed that preview behaves strangely when re-saving pdf files. If I preview a pdf document and the use the "save" function to make a copy, the copied file is about twice the size of the original, and the Table of Contents data seems to be lost. I've noticed this for files produced from the TeX package, such as are on the physics electronic archives (http://arxiv/org). Any explanation would be appreciated! I realise that I could just save a copy directly, but it is sometimes handy to preview first, and I am a little disturbed to discover that preview appears to be changing pdf files unnecessarily when saving them.
    12" powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I can't help you, but I'm having the same problem with version 9.4.1
I have been trying to "save as" some .pdf documents (monthly statements) from a financial institution, but it does not work when I right click on the file, or when I right click on the document.  Like you, I click on the "disc" icon, and nothing happens.  I was able to save these in August and prior, but not now.  It makes no sense.
When I open these documents, they appear in a web window, not in the Reader software, so there is no tool bar showing "file", "edit", "view", etc, like what appearsw in Acrobat.  I'm stumped.  I posted this several days before you, but no replies yet.  I'm not real eager to pay $39 for the adobe help desk just yet.

  • Why can't I create Fillable PDF Forms using Adobe Acrobat X Pro and upload to Dreamweaver?

I can create fillable PDF Forms using Adobe Acrobat X Pro. I can email them to someone using Adobe Reader (free) and they can fill them, save and email to me. But when I upload the form to Dreamweaver CS5, the form is not fillable. And yes, I saved it as a Reader Extended PDF-Enable Additional Features.

I see no reason for this form to fail in Reader. Some questions for you.
    1. On the system with Adobe Reader, what is the system and the version of Adobe Reader?
    2. Are you viewing the PDF in a browser on the system with Reader, or in an Adobe Reader window?
    3. If it's a browser
    (a) what is the browser
    (b) if you download the file instead, and open directly in Reader, what happens?

  • How to I stop the Preview Pane in Windows 7 retaining control when I open a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat (Reader is NOT installed)

I have the preview pane active when selecting PDF Documents.  When I open a PDF document I am unable to save any changes. the error message I receive:
"The documents could not be saved. The file ma be read-only,or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name of in a different folder"
The document is not read only and no other user has it open.  If I turn the preview pane OFF there is no problem saving changes.  I have also un-installed Adobe Reader.
Other programs (such as Excel, Word) do not experience the same problems as the PDF documents.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    Hi snoreaustralia,
It sounds like you just need to associate the PDF filename extension with Acrobat, rather than Preview. Please see this document from the Microsoft Help for instructions on choosing the default program for opening a particular file type (in your case, PDF): Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help

  • PDF form created in Acrobat X - Mac Preview does not wrap text

This is driving me crazy, please excuse me if this is rudimentary -
I created a document in Word that will be a daily form filled out and saved as individual pdf's.
In Acrobat X, I opened this doc & created a form.
If I open with Acrobat reader or X, the form holds all parameters including "shrink to fit" with text...
But, Preview clips the text... it centers text like I requested but doesn't adjust font size to fit...
Is there a step I'm missing? This form needs to be filled out correctly in Preview - is this possible?
    Thanks

You should NEVER expect that Apple's Preview application will be able to give the quality of preview you'll see in Acrobat. Apple chooses to implement or not implement the parts of the PDF specification that they choose.
You should complain about this in the Apple user forums because they developed the application, not Adobe.

  • Problem with creating PDF in Photoshop, or Acrobat Output Preview

I saved a PDF in Photoshop and Acrobat's output preview the text was black in 4 colors and Rip did not have this problem. Why?

You have gone a while without a reply here, so I'll bump your post at least, but it is not clear from your question exactly what your problem is.
'Black in four colors'   I don't understand this statement.  Black is black and does not have colours.
'Rip'  I don't know what you mean by Rip.
One tghing that comes to mind is that if you have exported a large layered document to PDF and that document had vectored objects like Type layers, whenn you view the PDF file you might initially see those vectored objects in black while the system is catching up and rendering the type layers etc.  In that case, just waiting will see it corrected, but a 3550 x 8800 pixel banner file I delivered to a printer recently, took ages to render on the printer's slow system.
If you expand on your problem, I amn sure someone will try and help.

  • PDF Documents compatible with Acrobat Reader 5.0

Which version (Standard, Pro or Ext Pro) of Adobe Acrobat 9.0  family should I buy to create PDF documents compatible with Acrobat Reader 5.0 ????
Is it possible to create PDF files from HTML and navigate through the links ????
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your answer.
Related to my first question (compatibility with Acrobat Reader 5.0), how should I save the PDF created ????  Saving the PDF in Acrobat Pro 9.0 with standard save option makes the document not readable by Acrobat Reader 5.0.
Should I save the document as PDF/A, PDF/X or any other subset ?????  If so, I'm not sure if they are included in the Standard.
    Thank you in advance.

  • I'm having trouble saving my file in adobe acrobat pro 9

I'm having trouble saving my file in adobe acrobat pro 9.  When I attempt to save I get message saying,"Bad File Handle".  There are several pictures on this file I'm trying to save...dont know if that has anything to do with the problem, just thought it would be helpful information.  Would really appreciate any insight anyone has to offer.
    Thanks in advance

I am having a similar problem with a simple pdf form.  I have made several changes to the pdf and when I go to save, I get the message that I can't save the file due to a "bad file handle."  I have opened, altered, saved, and closed the form several times before, just not now.  No one else was working on the form.  The file format is still a pdf and nothing has changed.
