Saving PDF's to previous subfolder.

I am saving pdf files from Outlook 2010 to a flash drive, I would like it to save to the last subfolder that I had saved in previously, not to go back to the default folder.  It had done this prior and than quit doing it.  Not sure how to get back to it.

Sadly, there's no way to influence this behavior of Acrobat.

Custom "Save as PDF" directly to a destination folder overwrites previously saved PDF files
As many of you will know, within Mac OSX it is possible to "print" any document off as a PDF.  You simply prepare your document then invoke the "Print" command and in the resulting print dialog box, click the "PDF" button in the bottom left corner which spills out a menu with various options including "Save as PDF..." as shown in the image below:
Selecting the last option "Edit Menu" permits users to add specific folders to which a PDF of the document will be saved.  As you will note from the image above, I have created a number of destinations such as "Bank Transfers" (for anything on screen in Safari I wish to preserve when using my on-line banking facility); "Bind" (which I use with an Automator workflow to consolidate many PDFs into one long document); "Officeworks" (for stuff I need to copy to a USB stick and have printed on on large plotters); "iPad" (for anything I need to put on my iPad through "iAnnotate" or "Documents") etc
The problem I have discovered is that with the introduction of Mountain Lion, PDFs that get saved directly to a destination folder get overwritten by later versions of PDFs that are produced from the same document.  This is fine when working on a single document that you may want to have the latest print of a document but not so when you produce many different PDFs from the same browser window in Safari as you surf through a number of websites etc.
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious versions were never over-written but rather preserved them with new versions having version number suffixes added e.g., untitled.pdf, followed by untitled1.pdf, untitled2.pdf, untitled3.pdf etc.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? (other than a workaround like switching to Finder to rename or move files around)

The "Save to Web Receipts" bug existed for a long time - here's a MacOSXHints article offering a workaround in 2007.  Here's another reference to it in 2009.  Your contention that:
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious [sic] versions were never over-written.
    is, I'm afraid, wrong.
Apple fixed (worked around) that bug by using a .pdfworkflow, as I indicated.  As I also indicated, this file can't be opened with Automator (or I just don't know how, which is no great surprise ).  But it's the answer to your problems.
You can either wait for Apple to fix what is, admittedly, a huge bug in their PDF Services feature, or you can find a way of implementing the same fix they did for your own folders.
I should be doing the same, as I use PDF Services regularly, but I'm too lazy and have had too little success with Automator in general to give it a shot.  You may have more success than I did.
    Good luck

  • How to stop firefox from opening new tab when opening a pdf that is previously saved on my desktop?

PC Windows 7 Pro 32 bit
I have previously saved PDF files on my desktop. When I open the PDF, firefox sees fit to open a new tab even though I do not have the browser open. This is annoying because after I close the PDF I then have to close the New Tab browser window as well. This costs me a lot of productivity time as I open a lot of PDF's for work. The PDF file use to show the Adobe logo on the file on desktop. Once I installed firefox it now shows the firefox logo?
I have already set PDF's to open with Adobe as default through Menu-Options-Applications

    Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Uploading a previously saved pdf

When I try and upload a previously saved pdf I get the following error message, "At least one signature has problems.  You cannot save data typed into this form."

What do you mean by searchable? It is a scan or what? If it is regular text you simply use ctrl-F to find a word. If it is a picture, you have to run OCR. For a legal document, you probably want to retain the scan as is and put the search behind it. So you would select OCR and set the option to searchable and exact -- not changing the graphic. There is a second searchable option that reduces the graphic some, but might be a bad choice for legal work. Realize that the searchable option will add a layer of text on a layer behind the graphics and the file will expand in size. The third alternative is ClearScan that actually replaces text found with the text and only retains the graphics for non-text parts. This latter is probably not appropriate for a legal use.
Consider all the controversy over Obama's PDF of his birth certificate. That is a case where retaining the original graphic would have been appropriate. Instead the PDF came out looking as though it had been manipulated. For legal documents, this is where retaining the original is important. I am not sure of the status of legal documents from a PDF perspective, but at least I have tried to give you some heads up. There may actually be some lawyers who drop by that could comment.

  • I have just updated to Pages 5.1 and now the templares which I have saved do not displat the header and footer which they were saved with in the previous version.  How can I have the header and footer included when I open a template?

I have just updated to Pages 5.1 and now the templares which I have saved do not displat the header and footer which they were saved with in the previous version.  How can I have the header and footer included when I open a template?

That is becuase Pages 5.1 has numerous unnounced surprises for the unwary user.  Among the surprises:
    - it strips out images from headers and footers without warning
    - it strips out bookmarks without wanring (yes, all those bookamrks you laboriously put into a document: poof! Gone.)
    - it strips out alternating left/right margins, without warning.
There are many more suprises, as you'll see from glancing through these discussions. They fall into two main categories: things that are present in version 4.3 but that are missing in 5.1, things like
    -mail merge
    -meaningful Applescript/Services support
    -non-contiguous text selection
    -ability to set defaul zoom
-ability to see comments while editing
    -ability to print comments
    -ability to read RTF files
-ability to drag in hyperlinked ted from a browser
These about about 90 other features are gone.
Then there are the bugs.  Hyperlinks do not reliably export to a PDF file any longer. There have been multiple problems with printing report. Some fonts place stray characters in the headers.  Many reports of the program crashing, courrupting files, etc.
Fortunately for you, the previous version of Pages is still on your system.  Export any documents you may have created or edited with Pages 5.1 (another great surprise: files created with version 5.1 cannot be read by any previous version of Pages: not just 4.3 but even 5.01!).  Then trash 5.1 and use 4.3 until (unless?) it is stable and has a reasonably robust feature set.

  • Saving PDF to last folder

I have Adobe Reader X 10.0.0, PDF Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x). I have been saving PDF's for years, and each time I save, it goes to the last folder I saved to? The other day, I had approximately 15 PDF's that had been scanned to me, and after I had saved 5 of these documents normally, it then started going straight to a temporary folder, and has done ever since, which means I have to go through all the folders to get the one I desire? I have spoken to our I.T. department and they believe its a problem with PDF and not with our system, and I believe otherwise. I can use Recent Places, but when you have done the same thing for years, and the amount I do, change is not always good
Has anyone encountered the same problem, and can help?

    Hi Kat,
This is a bit geeky, but the signature appearance that you see on the page is not the signature, but just a graphical representation of the actual signature. The actual signature is a blob of hex encoded data in the PDF file that you don't really see. That aside...
When you create a digital signature the first thing Acrobat/Reader will ask you to do is select a digital ID to sign with. Acrobat then reads the digital ID and amasses some information to use to create the signature appearance. It then fills in the form field (a signature field is just a special use form field) with the appearance, BUT the signature still hasn't been created. The next thing Acrobat does is asks you to Save the file to disk. This is more geekiness, but it much safer to compute the signature byte range on disk then it is in memory. The simple explanation is it's harder for the bad guys to manipulate the bytes on disk then it is for them to control the bytes in memory and because a digital signature provides document security we err on the safe side and require the file to be written to disk before the signature is created. The other safety item is, we want to sign the signature appearance so that someone can't come along later and modify the appearance without breaking the signature, so it (the appearance) has to be created before the signature proper is created.
So at this point you've seen the signature appearance and thought that the signature has been created, but it hasn't. When you try to save to the network folder something is preventing Acrobat from saving the file and what ends up happening is the file is rolled back to the pre-signature state and the signature appearance is removed. The file is in essence untouched.
All of that aside (which is probably more than you really wanted to know) the real question is why can't the file be saved to the network folder. This isn't really a digital signature issue, but rather a network permissions issue.

  • I saw the responses on the page to opening and saving pdfs but it is cumbersome to shut down the function in Mozilla and work around it. Is there a fix coming?

Until the Firefox 23 update I had no difficulty opening or saving pdfs in Firefox, but since the most recent update (Firefox 23) I often get error messages about damaged files when I use the download button and try to open or save files. I've checked with another browser and they open or save fine. I've tried disabling the pdf but it is cumbersome. I am using MSWord 7 if that makes any difference. Is there a fix coming for this?

  • Problem Saving PDF with Opacity Masks in Illustrator CS3

I'm having trouble exporting an Illlustrator CS3 file to PDF. I have two layers in the the .ai file that have opacity masks applied. When I save the file as a PDF, the two layers with opacity masks seem to disappear (or they are flattened down to white/100% transparency.) They do not show on screen nor when printing. I've tried opening the saved PDF in Illustrator to investigate, and the layers are still there, but with no opacity mask. Where am I going wrong? I've tried a new file with a simple shape and a simple opacity mask, and it exports fine to PDF. So something is wrong with my file set up, but I can't pinpoint what! I have also tried exporting to various versions of PDF, and nothing works. Help!
    Screen cap from Illustrator:
    Screen cap of PDF:
Correct (Illustrator) with subtle starburst effect:
    Wrong (Acrobat PDf), no starburst!
    Thanks for looking!

Not sure what's going on in your file, but it's definately having a problem with the Steaks layer. Trying to release the clipping mask and ungrouping all the layers is having a problem so it might have something to do with the way the streaks layer was built.
Using your file I replaced the streaks layer and put a starburst that's clipped to the icon shape. I've attached two files. One is for Illustrator CC so you can retain the gradient fill on the stroke which is only available in newer versions of Illustrator. The other has the starburst I created expanded so that you can open the file and retain the startburst look.

  • Problem saving pdf from preview

Since upgrading to 10.4.3 I have noticed that preview behaves strangely when re-saving pdf files. If I preview a pdf document and the use the "save" function to make a copy, the copied file is about twice the size of the original, and the Table of Contents data seems to be lost. I've noticed this for files produced from the TeX package, such as are on the physics electronic archives (http://arxiv/org). Any explanation would be appreciated! I realise that I could just save a copy directly, but it is sometimes handy to preview first, and I am a little disturbed to discover that preview appears to be changing pdf files unnecessarily when saving them.
    12" powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I can't help you, but I'm having the same problem with version 9.4.1
I have been trying to "save as" some .pdf documents (monthly statements) from a financial institution, but it does not work when I right click on the file, or when I right click on the document.  Like you, I click on the "disc" icon, and nothing happens.  I was able to save these in August and prior, but not now.  It makes no sense.
When I open these documents, they appear in a web window, not in the Reader software, so there is no tool bar showing "file", "edit", "view", etc, like what appearsw in Acrobat.  I'm stumped.  I posted this several days before you, but no replies yet.  I'm not real eager to pay $39 for the adobe help desk just yet.

  • Saving PDF with Adobe AIR

    Hi all,
Currently, I am trying to implement saving PDF function with AIR, similar to above AIR application.
I have created a normal PDF, added formbridge.js inside it. Then display it via a HTML template in my AIR application.
Any idea how I can save the pdf with its content using AIR?
Do I need to ReaderExtended the PDF?
    Thanks and regards,
    Anh

Thanks a bunch anirudhs for your reply. I believe I did a bad
bad job explaining myself on the initial post.
Basically what I'm having issues with is printing or saving
the state of a scripted PDF form. I'm working on an AIR application
that fills PDF forms from the AIR app. Here is the work flow I
    envision for the app:
    - Forms are filled in the AIR App
    - The fields are stored in a SQLite DB
    - Fields are pulled from the DB into a template scripted PDF
    File
    - Template PDF file should be able to be saved & printed
off with the respective forms field
I have everything working besides the saving & printing
aspect of the application. I can't seem to make it work. Tried
working with the saveAs() but there seems to be some security
issues with calling the saveAs() from the script.
I'm wondering if anyone could give me a hand with this issue.
    Thanks.

  • Problem with saving PDF in Preview

When I open PDF file in Preview in OS 10.5. (make changes) and save it as PDF again, this pdf file does not display corectly on PC. Fonts are missing. When I save in Acrobat, everything is correct. I looked on the information about saved pdf, and Prewiev inserts some fonts to PDF. Acrobat reader on PC tells me, that some fonts can be removed and pdf may be not dispayed correctly. This problem is only in Leopard, because in Tiger was everything fine. Does anybody know any solution? Thank you.

I see this same behavior, and it is a serious pain for us LaTeX writers.
I have found a rather annoying work-around: if you manually close the file before re-opening it (Cmd-W), it will honor this "Start on the last viewed page" option and behave like it used to.
Of course, then it starts off at the start zoom level... but, at least, with a large project, you're not having to opt-cmd-g ("go to page") and remember page numbers.

  • Saving PDF in Preview results in unsearchable File

    Hi
I found an archieved discussion (but without a single answer to the question), so I'm reproducing it here again because I have the exact same problem and am hoping for suggestions for a solution:
"If I take any PDF that is searchable (say from the internet or exported in ms-word) open it in Preview.app, and do a "Save as..." the resulting PDF is not searchable (and btw bigger in file size). I can properly cut and paste text from the original, but from the saved PDF the text is corrupted. Is this a known issue?"
Can anyone help with this one plz.? it's really annoying. thnx.

Open the first document in Preview.  Select View -> Thumbnails.  Drop the second document onto the thumbnail image of the first one, not in the blank space in the thumbnail panel.

  • Problem in saving pdf with added pages

    Hi to all,
I'm new in this forum and I have a problem.
My scenario is: I have a dyanmic pdf of 2 pages. I inserted a button on the pdf which duplicates the second page (using the addInstance method in javascript in "click" event) and all works fine: I can add as many pages as I want. The problem is when I save that pdf: the saved pdf does not conserve the pages I added. How can I save the complete pdf? I have to set a certain property of the pdf? Or the problem is in a property of the subform?
    Thanks for your help,

I noted that I have a data connetion on my interactive form and it does n ot work. But if I remove any data connection, it works fine!!! Why this? I need that data connectio. Suggestions?
