Saving PDF to last folder

I have Adobe Reader X 10.0.0, PDF Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x). I have been saving PDF's for years, and each time I save, it goes to the last folder I saved to? The other day, I had approximately 15 PDF's that had been scanned to me, and after I had saved 5 of these documents normally, it then started going straight to a temporary folder, and has done ever since, which means I have to go through all the folders to get the one I desire? I have spoken to our I.T. department and they believe its a problem with PDF and not with our system, and I believe otherwise. I can use Recent Places, but when you have done the same thing for years, and the amount I do, change is not always good
Has anyone encountered the same problem, and can help?

Hi Kat,
This is a bit geeky, but the signature appearance that you see on the page is not the signature, but just a graphical representation of the actual signature. The actual signature is a blob of hex encoded data in the PDF file that you don't really see. That aside...
When you create a digital signature the first thing Acrobat/Reader will ask you to do is select a digital ID to sign with. Acrobat then reads the digital ID and amasses some information to use to create the signature appearance. It then fills in the form field (a signature field is just a special use form field) with the appearance, BUT the signature still hasn't been created. The next thing Acrobat does is asks you to Save the file to disk. This is more geekiness, but it much safer to compute the signature byte range on disk then it is in memory. The simple explanation is it's harder for the bad guys to manipulate the bytes on disk then it is for them to control the bytes in memory and because a digital signature provides document security we err on the safe side and require the file to be written to disk before the signature is created. The other safety item is, we want to sign the signature appearance so that someone can't come along later and modify the appearance without breaking the signature, so it (the appearance) has to be created before the signature proper is created.
So at this point you've seen the signature appearance and thought that the signature has been created, but it hasn't. When you try to save to the network folder something is preventing Acrobat from saving the file and what ends up happening is the file is rolled back to the pre-signature state and the signature appearance is removed. The file is in essence untouched.
All of that aside (which is probably more than you really wanted to know) the real question is why can't the file be saved to the network folder. This isn't really a digital signature issue, but rather a network permissions issue.

  • How do I set Adobe Reader XI so that a saved pdf will be saved in the last folder saved?

When I save a group of PDF files, I want them all saved in the same folder.  How do I configure so that each fille will be saved in the last folder that was used to save, rather than having to browse for the save folder each time?

I am replying to my own question. I learned that if you right click when trying to open a PDF, you are asked which app you wish to use to open the file. If you click on Get Info, instead of choosing an app, you get this great information box which gives you the option to set Adobe Reader as your default app for PDF files. It even allows you to change all the pdf files you already have to Adobe Files. Yay.

  • Unable to view a saved pdf in a folder

I saved a pdf from Safari into a folder. But when I open that folder to read the file, I cannot see it. I thought it did not save properly, so I went to the Website and downloaded it again to save int he same folder. But then, I see that file saved as pdf. If it is saved, why can I not see it when I open the folder through my applciations? I did this several times, but to no avail. Can someone help? Thanks

    Try this ...
Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go.
If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file.

  • Custom "Save as PDF" directly to a destination folder overwrites previously saved PDF files

Custom "Save as PDF" directly to a destination folder overwrites previously saved PDF files
As many of you will know, within Mac OSX it is possible to "print" any document off as a PDF.  You simply prepare your document then invoke the "Print" command and in the resulting print dialog box, click the "PDF" button in the bottom left corner which spills out a menu with various options including "Save as PDF..." as shown in the image below:
Selecting the last option "Edit Menu" permits users to add specific folders to which a PDF of the document will be saved.  As you will note from the image above, I have created a number of destinations such as "Bank Transfers" (for anything on screen in Safari I wish to preserve when using my on-line banking facility); "Bind" (which I use with an Automator workflow to consolidate many PDFs into one long document); "Officeworks" (for stuff I need to copy to a USB stick and have printed on on large plotters); "iPad" (for anything I need to put on my iPad through "iAnnotate" or "Documents") etc
The problem I have discovered is that with the introduction of Mountain Lion, PDFs that get saved directly to a destination folder get overwritten by later versions of PDFs that are produced from the same document.  This is fine when working on a single document that you may want to have the latest print of a document but not so when you produce many different PDFs from the same browser window in Safari as you surf through a number of websites etc.
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious versions were never over-written but rather preserved them with new versions having version number suffixes added e.g., untitled.pdf, followed by untitled1.pdf, untitled2.pdf, untitled3.pdf etc.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? (other than a workaround like switching to Finder to rename or move files around)

The "Save to Web Receipts" bug existed for a long time - here's a MacOSXHints article offering a workaround in 2007.  Here's another reference to it in 2009.  Your contention that:
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious [sic] versions were never over-written.
    is, I'm afraid, wrong.
Apple fixed (worked around) that bug by using a .pdfworkflow, as I indicated.  As I also indicated, this file can't be opened with Automator (or I just don't know how, which is no great surprise ).  But it's the answer to your problems.
You can either wait for Apple to fix what is, admittedly, a huge bug in their PDF Services feature, or you can find a way of implementing the same fix they did for your own folders.
I should be doing the same, as I use PDF Services regularly, but I'm too lazy and have had too little success with Automator in general to give it a shot.  You may have more success than I did.
    Good luck

  • When I am prompted to choose a folder to save downloaded files to, why does 7.0 start the download browser in a random folder rather than the last folder saved to?

When prompted to choose a destination folder for files that I am saving, I have found that 7.0 doesn't always open the file browser with the last folder I saved to. In previous versions, if I saved a jpg to a specific folder, it would open still directing me to that same folder the next time I was prompted. Now, if I am saving a string of images, there is no telling which folder the browser will be opened to when I am prompted. Very annoying to 1) have to figure out where I am in my filing system and 2) have to work my way through god knows how many folders to get back to where I saved the previous file ten seconds earlier. If this is some kind of smart feature that's making suggestions based on file source history or downloading patterns or whatever, can I turn it off? Here's hoping that you can help, because I really want this to be an easy fix rather than a bad version of your otherwise flawless program or worse yet a deteriorating hard drive.

Firefox 11+ versions have support via <b>browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite</b> pref to disable to disable the feature to remember the download directory based upon the URL.<br />
The browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite pref doesn't exist by default (it is hidden).<br />
Create a new <b>Boolean</b> pref with the name <b>browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite</b> and set the value to false.
You may have the clear the "Site Preferences" via Clear Recent History to remove already stored data.

  • [Automator] Saving PDF in a new folder

How do I save a PDF I generate from a folder with pictures into a new folder on the desktop, where as the name of the PDF is the name of the folder with pictures, and the name of the new folder on the desktop where my PDF gets saved to is the name of the folder in which the folder with the pictures is located?
So basically, what I have is:
    [folder A [folder B with pics] ]
And what I want to do is:
make pdf of folder B → name pdf "folder B" → save pdf in new folder on desktop named "folder A".
I've tried several Automator workflows, but I keep failing at this... It sounds like I want to do something really basic, but it seems it's something really hard... o_O
    Cheers!

  • Saving PDF's to previous subfolder.

I am saving pdf files from Outlook 2010 to a flash drive, I would like it to save to the last subfolder that I had saved in previously, not to go back to the default folder.  It had done this prior and than quit doing it.  Not sure how to get back to it.

Sadly, there's no way to influence this behavior of Acrobat.

  • Can't save files to Last Folder Used

I'm scanning items with a Kodak iQsmart3, running under Kodak's oXYgen 2.6.1 scan application. Late last week, the application suddenly stopped saving files to the last folder used. Now I have to re-select the destination folder for each scan.
I have rebooted the computer several times, and have also re-installed the scan application, but nothing helps the problem. It seems now that the problem may be with OS 10.4.11. I've searched and searched for a solution within the OS, but can't find anything that helps.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to proceed? Is there a place where you can check to see if the saving options can be changed?

Thanks for your suggestion. However, I did as you advised and still cannot save files to the last folder used, as I used to be able to do.
This is the first time in the 2 1/2 years I've been using this system that I've had any trouble with it. When I opened Disk Utility, it showed me the size and type of three different drives, all identical in manufacture. The first holds the Operating system, and the other two are set up in a Raid Striped set. I selected Macintosh HD under the name of the first drive, since that's the name of the disk on my desktop, and ran the Repair Permissions function, moving the recentitems.plist file to the desktop and rebooting, as per your instructions. Was that the proper area to use or should I have selected the disk description above that?

  • Problem with saving PDF in Preview

When I open PDF file in Preview in OS 10.5. (make changes) and save it as PDF again, this pdf file does not display corectly on PC. Fonts are missing. When I save in Acrobat, everything is correct. I looked on the information about saved pdf, and Prewiev inserts some fonts to PDF. Acrobat reader on PC tells me, that some fonts can be removed and pdf may be not dispayed correctly. This problem is only in Leopard, because in Tiger was everything fine. Does anybody know any solution? Thank you.

I see this same behavior, and it is a serious pain for us LaTeX writers.
I have found a rather annoying work-around: if you manually close the file before re-opening it (Cmd-W), it will honor this "Start on the last viewed page" option and behave like it used to.
Of course, then it starts off at the start zoom level... but, at least, with a large project, you're not having to opt-cmd-g ("go to page") and remember page numbers.

I have problems saving pdf files in the web when I use Safari.  I don't have this problem with firefox.

do they save ok if Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins is unchecked ?
If so, likely an adobe or other pdf plugin
Re-check the setting above & quit any browsers,
Look in this folder by triple-clicking the line below, then ctrl-clicking it & choosing Services - Open
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
remove anything with pdf in the filename & test again
Sometimes, plug-ins can be in the User Library folder :

  • After PDF creation, deleted folder(s) reappear on desktop

Has anyone had the following issue with Adobe X?  If so, did you find a solution?
After I create a PDF from the internet, old folders that I have deleted from my desktop reappear.  For example, when I pay bills online, I create a PDF of the receipt and save it in my "bill receipts" folder, which is a few layers from the desktop (i.e., desktop -> household stuff -> bill receipts).  After the newly created PDF is saved in the correct folder an older folder that had been long deleted and/or moved to another folder (for archiving purposes) reappears on my desktop.  This folder is always empty, but it is there.  Granted, this issue does not affect the ability of Acrobat X to function, however, it is a minor annoyance and I would like to get it fixed.
Have you (the reader) had this issue with Adobe X before?  If so, what was your solution?
    OS:  Windows 7, 64-bit
    Acrobat X: 10.0.2
    Thank you!
    Marnie

Deleting a few PDFs by itself cannot
ruin InDesign's ability to create PDFs any more. Other files must have been moved or deleted.
You should attempt to fully reinstall InDesign.

  • Error loading/saving PDF presets

    Error loading/saving pdf presets
I am using CS4 and Windows 7. I have a .joboptions file I want to load in InDesign, but when I try, I get the error message: Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected.
I am a local administrator on the computer.
I have tried manually copying the .joboptions file into the folder C:\Users\<my profile>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings, but it doesn’t show up in the list of available presets.
I used the same version of InDesign with Windows XP and was able to load and save presets this way just fine.

Thank for the tip. But unfortunately it is only a partial solution.
When I 'run as administrator' in Windows 7 I have no problems, that is a bit of a solution, but for me it is a mere workaround.
I want to find out how I can load and save PDF export settings without running as Adminstrator, since we have 7 people using the presets and they don't want to run InDesign everytime as an Administrator.
I have all the rights (local admin) to all folders, therefore I was hoping somebody already fixed this in his/her system...
Hope Adobe comes up with some sort of solution for this apperently Windows 7 problem.

  • Last Folder Opened

I have searched this board to no avail. I am using Illustrator CS4 on Snow Leopard.
My issue is when I place and image (or open just open a file through Illustrator) the dialog box takes me back to the hard drives root folder.
Obviously this is quite annoying when placing several images, or saving files. I am not sure if this is an OS issue, or Illustrator. I do not have this issue with InDesign, though.... Any pointer would be appreciated.

It takes me to the last folder I used through the place or open dialog.
I would therefore suggest doing this
    1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

  • Multiplexing Error when Saving to VIDEO-TS folder.

I used idvd-08 for the first time last night and I had a problem.
I saved my project to a VIDEO_TS folder. Everything seemed to work fine but at the end I got an error message saying that a Multiplexing error had happened during the burn.
When I tried to open the file using my DVD app it tells me that the media type is not supported.
The input file was created in FCE 3.5HD.
This is the first time that I have used idvd-08. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,

How much free space on your start-up HD?
This is from iDVD '08 Help:
+Saving as VIDEO_TS folder: Saving a project as a VIDEO_TS folder allows you to play it back, on your computer, using software such as VLC media player. Saving as a VIDEO_TS folder is similar to saving as a disc image: the output quality is the same, and both methods take about the same amount of time to complete. *You can’t burn a disc from a VIDEO_TS folder.*+
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)
