Saving Photo File After Editing

Once I edit a raw image in Photoshop Elements 5.0 and then try to go back to the organizer from editor, the program requires about 4 clicks to save the file. If I'm editing multiple files, I must do each of these clicks for each of the files.
Does anyone know how to streamline this save process?

Hi All -- I'm going to ask this question again as the issue continues to vex me.
I'm now using LR 2.2. The changes flushed to a image file (I use DNG) reflect the current 'before settings' in the develop module. In order to get recent develop module changes into the image file, one has to first execute "Copy After's Settings to Before", then save the image settings (cmd-S). That seems totally reasonable.
Here's my problem. I visit lots of images making edits. I don't always remember to "Copy After's Settings to Before" after making edits. In order to determine which image's I've made changes to I step through all my images in the develop module using the before/after view, executing "Copy After's Settings to Before". This is a big hassle. I need a better approach. First I don't always know which images I've edited and I usually don't care anyway. What I want is a macro that will perform "Copy After's Settings to Before" for multiple images. Is there such a feature or is this missing from LR?

  • Is there any benefit to keep the RAW file after editing outside Lightroom creates a TIFF

When working with RAW files in Lightroom and you choose to edit in Photoshop, the only option is "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments" (Edit Original is grayed out).  This creates a .TIFF so after you come back from Photoshop you now have two copies of the photo--the RAW file and a TIFF version.
In my normal workflow, I make additional edits to the TIFF file in addition to the changes Photoshop made so I'm left with a "out dated" version of the RAW file.  Is there any benefit to keeping the RAW file at that point?  I'm doubling my disk usage by keeping it.
    Fire away.....

    Answering this question:
This got me wonderig why LR turns my 25-30mb CR2 RAW files into 80-95 mb TIFF files when it sends them to Photoshop for editing but Photoshop can open the same 25-30 RAW file in DNG format and save it as a 25-30 mb TIFF.  Why are the TIFF's LR creates 3x larger than the ones created by PS?
Camera RAW file formats are compressed to a small file size using manufacturer proprietary information about the image sensor pixel layout. This provides a more efficient loss-less file compression algorithm than TIFF's LZW or ZIP compression algorithms. LZW or ZIP compression is not used when Lightroom exports and opens an image in Photoshop for editing, but you certainly have that option when saving the file after applying your PS edits. DNG files using loss-less compression can produce a file size slightly smaller than RAW format, but I have no experience with DNG.
    Answering this question:
CS3 can't read Canon .CR2 RAW files (at least mine can't unless there is a plugin of some kind).
Support for newer camera models like your Canon 7D are only added to the then current (and later version) Adobe Camera RAW Converter and Lightroom. Newer Adobe Camera RAW converter versions (6.3) are not supported in older version of Photoshop like CS3. It is the nature of business marketing and also due to the large expense to support older application versions with "new" plug-in features. It would be a support nightmare!
    Hypothetical Example:
"Why doesn't Adobe Camera RAW 10.3 work properly with my Canon 1600 D MK XV 45 Megapixel camera in Photoshop CS3?"

  • How to sync two excel files, the content is the same in both files after edit.

I have two excel files, which are data and edit by multi users, how can I sync the master files to the copy files after edit?
Is this operation required VBA? marco?

    Hi,
Your request could be done via VBA code. Here are two ideas.
    One:
Syncing the data from master file to the copy file without opening copy file. Sample code
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
    If Target.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub
Dim cnn As Object, SQL$, s$
    Select Case True
    Case Target.Value = ""
    s = "null"
    Case IsDate(Target.Value)
    s = "#" & Target.Value & "#"
    Case IsNumeric(Target.Value)
    s = Target.Value
    Case Else
    s = "'" & Target.Value & "'"
    End Select
    Set cnn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    cnn.Open "provider=microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0;extended properties='excel 8.0;hdr=no';data source=" & ThisWorkbook.Path & "\test folder\Book2.xls"
    SQL = "update [Sheet1$" & Target.Address(0, 0) & ":" & Target.Address(0, 0) & "] set f1=" & s
    cnn.Execute (SQL)
    cnn.Close
    Set cnn = Nothing
    End Sub
    Two:

If you don't need them at all, you can delete them. People usually store them in external drives if they need them.
have thought of, only export those clip you have used in your timeline, uncompressed?
Didn't really get this part. Do you mind explaining this?

  • Photos showing in Photo browser after editing

Each time I edit a photo and later when I bring up the Organizer I find that photo in the Photo Brower with no tags.
Did overlook a setting in the photo editor as I would like to have only photos that I want go get later from staging folder, camera, etc.
    Please advise

    John,
Please identify which version of PSE you have - 3 or 4?
    >I would like to have only photos that I want go get later from staging folder, camera, etc.
Sorry but I do not understand your objective.
Do you not want to have the photos that you are editing in the Organizer?
You can't really edit the photo now and then go get it from the camera later - you would not have the correlation between the original photo file and its edit.
    >Each time I edit a photo and later when I bring up the Organizer I find that photo in the Photo Brower with no tags.
Was this photo in he Organizer and did it have tags before you started to edit it? If it had tags before the edit, it should still have the same tags on the edited photo file.
If you never want the photo to be in the Organzier, you can uncheck Include in Organizer box in the Save As window of the Editor. But editing first and then bringing in to the Organizer later is not really a good workflow for most situations.

  • Lightroom shows "no photo selected" after editing jpg in Photoshop

I am running Lightroom 5.3 and Photoshop 14.2.1x64 on Windows 7, 64-bit, 16gb RAM, plenty of free disk space (90gb on drive C).  I am in Lightroom and have selected a subset of the library (using a key word clicking on the keyword's "right arrow" next to its count in the key word list).  I then view a photo in the loupe view and right click, selecting "Edit in Photoshop CC" and checking "Edit a Copy".  This takes me to Photoshop, where I edit the photo and save both as a .psd file and re-save the jpg copy, overwriting the copy that Lightroom made.  When I go back to Lightroom (by reactivating the window), the copy flashes momentarily and then disappears from the window, replaced by the message "no photo selected" in the loupe view.  When I go back to grid mode, I am back to the first photo in the selected group of photos and I then have to scroll through and find the photo I just edited (the jpg copy is still in Lightroom).
This problem did not occur when I first installed and used Lightroom.  Rather, Lightroom would continue to display the edited jpg photo in loupe view when I returned to Lightroom from Photoshop.  Now, however, it never does.  Is there some Lightroom setting I accidentally changed?  What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.
    Jon

I'm using ProPhoto RGB in Photoshop.  I have a test file that shows this issue: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84023411/shadows_test.psd
This is a 16-bit ProPhoto RGB image with just 2 colors.  The top part of the image is filled with RGB 10,10,10 and the bottom half is 0,0,0.  If I open this file in Photoshop and use Apple's DigitalColor Meter utility to read the displayed values of the color of the top, using "Display native values", the result is 18,18,18.  I expect it to be different than 10,10,10 due to the display profile but I would expect the same image viewed in Lightroom's Develop module to also read as 18,18,18 in the top half.  But when I do this (import the PSD into Lightroom and open in Develop) the Meter reads 12,12,12.  If I view the PSD in Loupe mode in Lightroom the Meter reads as expected, 18,18,18.
The difference should also be noticeable to your eye (at least mine) without using any measurements.
The result is that the dark shadows appear crushed when editing in Lightroom Develop mode.
The problem happens on both my 2008 Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 GPU and on my 2013 MacBook Air, although the values read on the Air are different than the Pro due to display profiles.
Normally, of course, I'm editing a RAW file in Lightroom and open that up in Photoshop (cmd+e), but this test seems to show that it happens with non-RAW files.

  • Autosaved as Unix Executable Files after editing font size?

When I open a .txt file in TextEdit, and change the font, in the Finder I see a new Unix Executable File appear, with (Autosaved) after the file name. This is in addition to the original .txt file - so there are now 2 files of the same name showing.
However, when I manually save the file, the Unix exe file disappears from the Finder, leaving the newly saved .txt file.
Is this normal? If not, please let me know what else I can try to fix it. I've already tried both suggestions in this thread & neither of them worked.
    Thanks!

Ok I noticed that TextEdit preferences shows an option to "delete the automatic backup file" so that's why it's disappearing...
...but what happens if TextEdit quits on me unexpectedly (which it has before)? Will I be able to open the autosaved Unix executable file with TextEdit or will it be "unrecognized?"
If anyone can give me confirmation that their autosaved files are Unix exe files and/or if they've been able to open the Unix exe backup files in the program they were created from, that would help.

  • Crash when saving photo when contact edit screen open - anyone else?

On two separate iPhones I have experienced a crash when saving a photo taken from "inside" the contacts edit screen. In both cases the photo app would capture the image and attempt to save. The screen goes black for about 5 seconds then returns to the home screen. The photo is not in the camera roll and the image container on the contact editor screen is empty.
    iPhone G3, 16GB, v2.2 <--both phones tested
Sequence: Open Contacts, locate existing entry, tap "edit", tap "add photo", tap "take photo", shoot picture, tap "set photo", system shows "saving photo" pinwheel, then screen goes black.
Doesn't happen every time. One instance corrupted the mail application and applied a false name in the "from" field for many of my emails. Remedy: Reload v2.2 software and restore from backup.
    Anyone else see this behavior?

I have had this same problem. As best I can recall, I have the problem every time. I've certainly updated software, reset software and reinstalled 2.2 for my phone, for other reasons. And, I've gotten another friend to duplicate the problem. My workaround is to save the contact info and then take the picture from the camera and then reopen and edit the contact and add the picture. It's just that, sometimes, I make a leap of faith and try to take a save a picture from within the contacts. It's a teeny, minor embarassment when I then have to ask a person for their info again, as the contact crashes before it's been saved.
Mostly, I'd enjoy the elegance of being able to add contacts and their photo at the same time. I know that's what is intended by Apple.
I don't intend to newly install 2.2 software, etc. with my iPhone to try and solve this problem. Just seems like a waste of time at the moment. I just want to state that it's a problem and it would be meaningful for Apple to correct this in 3.0
Life with the iPhone hasn't been perfect, but it has been awesome!

  • Error in saving .aspx pages after editing the XSLT

    Hi,
I am developing a SharePoint 2010 web app and I had to do some modifications for a .aspx page which has a data form web part and I am encountering following issues:
    1. After selecting the web part, when trying to modify the filter criteria of the data source, the "group" and "ungroup" buttons are seen as disabled and the option of editing in the XSLT editor is also not visible.
    2. after editing the XSLT, knowing that there are no issues if I try to save it an is showed saying null value issue and asking whether to allow scripts to run in this page r not. After choosing either yes or no, when I try to preview it in browser I get
an error in the place where I have the data form web part saying error with web part try to edit it in SharePoint editor such as SharePoint designer.
    3. this is happening only i try to edit the code but no matter how many copies I get from the original page, they are correctly previewed in the browser unless I try to edit it.
your kind support or suggestions are highly appreciated as I am unable to fix this
    thanks.

Data you are changing is on the frontend. You need to pass data to backend (server). The static method 'dispatch' of control framework class (CL_GUI_CFW) is used to do this 'manual' synchronization. It is sort of helper method of control framework (which is basis for ALV controls) and is independent of ALV controls (cl_gui_alv_grid etc.) that are used.
Try putting this code as suggested and check.
short code would be (without error handling)
    CL_GUI_CFW=>DISPATCH( ).

    Hey there TizJacky,
If I understand correctly there were pictures in your Mac OS trash which has been emptied, and want to restore them. In order to do this, you would need to have had Time Machine setup and backing up your computer before this occurred. This article will help you out if you did:

  • Saving photo file onto disk high resolution

I am trying to put  my 10MB photo onto a CD so I can take the file to a printer.  When I drag the file onto the disk, the disk shows 330KB file. I can't print the file at 330KB. Why is the CD distorting my file and decreasing the resolution? How do I copy a photo file (jpeg or tiff) onto a CD?

Are you dragging from a Finder folder or from something else?

  • How can i restore my e-mails (especially a saved message file) after i uninstall and reinstall

I have picked up some kind of bug in my e-mail program. I have used malwarebyte and Norton and I think it is cleared up. the problem is that I now cannot send e-mails. Comcast tells me the problem is in thunderbird and I should uninstall and reinstall. I have a "saved message file" I do not want to lose. where is this file and how can I save it. thanks.

Please tell comcast from me that they are idiots.
The suggestion to uninstall and reinstall is about as likely to fix your issue as dropping the device in the bath.
So lets look at this. I assume you get some sort of error message, what is it? Exactly please.
Personally I would be putting money on Nortons being the issue as it has a very long standing habit of making mail sending and receiving difficult.
Check in the Nortons firewall that Thunderbird has full access to the internet. Automatic is not enough. Then disable all email scanning ion Nortons, reboot your computer and try sending again. Any better? A new error message?

  • Mac using iPhoto with elements 9 saving file after editing

I start with iPhoto select a photo to work with, make adjustment or add layer etc and then when I save the file I can never find it again!
It says it is saving it to my iPhoto folder I started from but it is not there.
Never had this kind of problem before. How can you direct Elements to save where you want it not where it wants it.
    Thanks
    LarryB

    Thanks for that info.
I had it almost set up correctly did not know in Elements to set "save over original" feature so that solved it.
I have no idea where these others I have modified went.
I search for them in the spot light but the path doesn't get me there.
It stops at iphoto library/modified etc.
They are not in the library that's for sure.
Anyway this method will work just fine.

  • I loose my files after editing with photoshop and saving.

I can "see" the file title listed in the photoshop save dialogue box but can find no way to access them again. They do not appear in aperature and fail to be found using any search string from finder.

Before you sent the image to Photoshop as the External Editor, did you see new version (either .psd or .tif) that Aperture created for the purpose?  If so, then is that version still in the strip of images, or in the Browser?

  • Saving PSD files after exporting from Lightroom saves incorrectly

I've only recently moved to Lightroom from using Photoshop/Bridge together, so I'm not 100% sure how saving files exported from Lightroom should go. But here's what I experience:
Base edit of file within Lightroom
In library view, right click on image -> Edit in -> Open as Smart Object in Photoshop
Perform all my necessary edits and such
File -> Save As, and save it to another location as a PSD file (totally different HDD)
    Perform more edits....
Shortcut CTRL+S to save, and it saves it as the TIFF file under the location it was originally in within Lightroom
Eh...? Am I missing something. It should just save as the original PSD I created when I went "Save As". I have seen on a few occasions, immediately after "Save As", the file name resorts back to TIFF and not as PSD.
My settings for External Editing in Lightroom are as follows:
    File Format: TIFF
    Color Space: ProPhoto RGB
    Bit Depth: 16 bits/component
    Resolution: 300
    Compression: None
Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Also, to note, that sometimes I double click on the Smart Object within Photoshop to load Camera Raw and perform some edits, but not often.

Re Camera Raw being used to pass an image to Photoshop
    a) I am assuming this is independent of the Compatibility level in Preferences\File Handling DNG creation.
    b) Does the same apply to other photo editing software made by Adobe like Elements?.
Reply: Yes, the principle is the same. Photoshop Elements cannot read raw data either. That's why it has to be converted before it's opened.
    c) Assume that I have LR 5.7.1 and CS5. Is Camera Raw is still used to pass an image to Photoshop? If so, why is there a need to get LR to behave differently?
Reply: Camera Raw is used IF you choose the option to open anyway. Then Camera Raw will be used to convert the image that's opened in Photoshop. But since it is older than Lightroom some of the new adjustments might not be transferred to Photoshop. That's why there is a need to let the user make the choice.
    d) Sometimes it does seem as if Adobe might be using Camera Raw updates and process version updates to get consumers to change their habits, this includes having to buy subscriptions or having to change workflow to some ideal that somebody at Adobe or working with Adobe might have in mind.
Reply: The fact is that in the past, when a new version of Photoshop is released then all support and updates cease for the previous version. Since the introduction of the creative cloud, at least users of Photoshop CS6  get support for new cameras. They just don't get the new features. Yes, there's motivation to upgrade. Adobe is a business. What do you really expect?
    Re stacks
I find impossible to see collapsed stacks on the film strip. Stacks are only visible on the Library module and using a grid view; I don't say clearly visible because they are only recognisable by the label at the top left corner with the image count; I don't even think it is possible to change the colour of that label or the grey colour surrounding an image. Also I cannot name stacks. If I could name stacks, see them as virtual folders underneath a library folder and make them glaringly visible I would use them extensively.
Reply: The only reason I can think of that you are unable to see collapsed stacks on the filmstrip is if you have the filmstrip reduced in size to the point that Lightroom can't display all the icons. I'm able to see the collapsed stacks in the library grid view and on my filmstrip
Re storing your Raw files and processed files in separate locations
Assuming Raw files are negatives and Photoshop files are transparencies or prints, would you want negatives being handled/read on a regular basis? If anything happens to your negatives, you would never be able to produce another print or another transparency again.
Reply: The raw files or the negatives, as you put it, are never modified by Lightroom. They always remain in their pristine state they were in when they were imported. If I have a backup of that raw file then I can do whatever I want to the one in my working folder. Resetting that raw file so that it looks unaltered is just a click away.
I have worked extensively with databases and database systems, it is a standard feature of database systems to be able to choose where to store different database objects. I don't see why LR cannot do the same, it is a database after all. I do agree with both the OP and photo.
Reply: Well, I won't argue that point. If that's what you really want than lobby for it. It just won't get my vote because I don't see any real advantage.
If you read back through this quoted message you'll find that my replies are included. I don't know how to separate them out so they are highlighted properly. Read through it and think about it. But personally, I don't want to waste anymore time on this discussion because it isn't accomplishing anything in my opinion.
