Saving Photoshop File as PDF
I hope this isn't a stupid question. I have created a poster and want to save it as a PDF. The file is CMYK format, but when I save it as a pdf and reopen in Photoshop it shows up as RGB--why????
>and reopen in Photoshop it shows up as RGB--why????
Most likely you are not paying attention when you reopen and you are converting it to RGB.

When saving photoshop file in PDF, my document changes, how do I solve this?
Hello everybody,
Im trying to save my CS6 files as PDF documents. When I save my files as PDF some texts or images disappear or deform.
Is there anything i'm doing wrong?
Is there a setting I need to change for saving my files so they don't change?
Thank you for your help!Hi,
Which operating system and version of photoshop cs6 are you using?
You can find out the exact photoshop cs6 version by going to Help>System Info from within photoshop and looking at the very first line that says Photoshop Version. -
Saving photoshop file as pdf but transparent background turns white
Am trying to save file created as photoshop file (which has transparent background) as pdf to send to printer but when I reopen the saved pdf file it appears to be on a white background? Can anybody help please?
What are you "reopening" it with?
"Photoshop PDF" is not enough information. The PDF options window has various settings for PDF versions - Acorbat 4, Acrobat 5, Acrobat 6, etc. Actobat 4 will not include transparency or layers. Acrobat 5 will include layers but not transparency, Acorbat 6 will include both layers and transparency. -
Crashing When Saving Photoshop File Over Network
Photoshop & InDesign CS3 crashes whenever I try to save a file over the network to a another shared Mac Pro computer. Another Mac Pro on the network can save to the shared computer without a problem.
SPECIFICS
- Three Macs and a 3 PC's on Ethernet network
-Problem started after upgrading to Leopard
- I have tried reinstalling the entire Creative Suite without Version Cue
- Tried deleting the com.adobe.mediabrowser.p.ist and Photoshop.plist preferences.
- If I create a new file on my computer and then immediately save it, it usually does not crash on the first save. But after I do a few things to the file and then try to save again, it hangs up giving me the spinning pinwheel with the message in the Force Quit dialog window that Photoshop is not responding.
+- I am unable to force quiet Photoshop; I have to do a hard reboot.+
Adobe tech support believes it is a network problem, any ideas what might be causing the problem?
Are there any know issues with Leopard and CS 3 with certain network configurations?I have experienced issues with saving photoshop files over a network since upgrading to 10.5.3
This is a major issue, and one that apple seems quite about.

Photoshop File Formats.pdf .... where is it?
Hello
I am looking at the API documentation, and it refers to an external file called Photoshop File Formats.pdf. Since I wanted to read and write PSD files, rather than actually interfacing with Photoshop, I think I may just want to use this document as a resource to do this.
Anyone know where this document can be found?
Thanks
n8Click on "Get access to Photoshop SDK" on the following web site http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/photoshop/devcenter.html
Then ask specifically for the "file formats document" and that you want to read and write PSD files in your application. -
Strange White Areas When Saving Photoshop File as a .pdf File ??? NEED HELP
Using Photoshop CS5 -- I saved a Photoshop file I created as a .pdf file but some of the areas on the .pdf file (specifically, sections of text) do not have any of the color/fill information, they are just white (blank areas). I've seen this before when converting other Photoshop files and could not find a work around. I tried saving with various compression levels (max, high, med) and it makes no difference. I’m not a techie or graphic designer, just an average Jane, so I need information and advice that I can understand and apply. See attached image. Thanks!
That does sound a long way round. The usual trick when layers don't do what you expect them to do, is to make a Copy Merged layer at the top of the stack. Shift Alt Ctrl e (Shift Opt Cmd e).
I can see you have quite a few layers there, but you could problably track down the problem by Alt clicking each layer's Eye icon in turn to view them with everything else turned off. When you find the culprit, Alt click it's Eye icon again to turn the other layers back on again. -
Color issues between photoshop files and PDF's
i create a lot of PDF's from photoshop photographic files in order to email to clients for review. when i look at the PDF's, the colors look flat and dull and dark compared to the original photoshop files (I'm using CS3 and Acrobat Professional 8.0). I have the color space settings the same in both (ProPhoto RGB). I usually do the "save as smallest file size" so the PDF is emailable (there are often many pages, created from photoshop contact sheets). There is no option in Bridge to synchronize the color settings between the creative suites because i don't have all the suite applications. i've tried saving the PDF with the "PDF/X-3" option, but that doesn't seem to work either. is there something i'm missing?
Yeah - don't do that!
I would recommend you check with the Photoshop support area for more details...

Saving a file as PDF from CC Illustrator
Just updated from CS3 to CC Illustrator. In the old CS3 if I saved a file as a PDF. Adobe acrobat would open and I would then see the file on the screen as a PDF. Now in CC the file just save as a PDF in illustrator and doesn't reopen so I can see the document large and clear with the trim marks and bleeds. Is there a setting I need to change?
Thanks in advance. Self trained illustrator user here with little experience:) Any help is appreciated. In the PDF Save Options (second dialog), make sure this box is checked.

Can you edit text after saving your file as pdf
I have recently created a letterhead in Illustrator.
Is there a way to change a person name and title after saving it as a pdf file? I heard something about creating a form in Acrobat professsional.
I need to print out a letterhead with different peoples name and title. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.Can you edit the text in Acrobat Reader?
Yes, if you use Acrobat Pro to save the PDF as a Reader-enabled form.
1. Create your letterhead in Illustrator (or whatever). Leave design space for, but do not create text objects that you want to be editable.
2. Save as PDF.
3. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro. Use Acrobat's Form tools to add text fields whereever you want the end users to be able to key text.
4. Select the Enable Reader Usage Rights command in Acrobat to make the form fields edtiable in Reader. Save the file.
Recipients of the PDF can now open it in Reader, edit the content of the fields, and save the file with their edits.

Re: Saving Greyscale File to PDF
This is a dumb question, but.....if I create a greyscale document in PS, and save it as a PDF, it stays greyscale, right???
Thank you!!Noel, pfaffenbichler, and Gernot -- thank you very much for your posts!!!!! I appreciate your help !
I need the greyscale files to be placed in an InDesign publication, which I am creating. Some of the greyscale files I create, some are sent to me in various formats (PDF, JPEG, Word, and Publisher files, mostly -- some are professionally created, some are not). I create files in PS and/or ID (I know, I know, I should use AI, just never got the hang of it). I prefer to save PS files as PDF's, because PSD's appear to be rasterized in ID (the text is no longer text). When I receive PDF's from others, and convert them to greyscale in Acrobat, they become very dark, but at least retain the text as text. If converted in PS, they mostly retain their original look -- BUT, then the text is no longer text! What is the correct way of converting these files??
I will give more background.....Once a year, I use InDesign to create a booklet which is printed in CMYK, of course. Last year, many of the black/white pages of the proof booklet had a color tinge to them. I mentioned this to the printer, and he said he would fix it, which he did. However, we had to print a handful more booklets, which the printer used my files, not the FIXED files, and the result was icky black & white pages. This year, I asked the printer what I needed to do to fix this, and he said convert the files to greyscale in Photoshop. Most of the pages which should be in greyscale, are ads which are sent to me, and I do not have the original; and a few are ads which I have created, therefore have the original files.
Long story short, I am trying to figure out the best way to be certain my black/white pages do NOT print with a color tinge, and are crisp/clear.
If you are still reading......everyone, thanks again for the help!! -
I saved a FrameMaker 8 file as PDF using File>Save as > PDF. When double-clicked on the PDF, it showed a message "A number was out of range". I ignored the warning and clicked on OK, and the PDF opened.
I was not getting this error till now. Why does it occur now? How can I fix it? (I have a feeling that an Adobe update I installed may be behind this).I encountered this problem in a PDF produced using the combination of FM8 + "Save as PDF".
The "number is out of range" message is displayed upon opening the PDF in Acrobat/Reader.
Upon inspecting the Initial View settings in Acrobat (under Initial View), an excessively large number was displayed to the right of the Open to Page box (1234567890).
It turned out that the "Fit Width" setting for the "At Zoom" option in FrameMaker's PDF Settings dialog box (+"Save as PDF") was consistently responsible for the strange value and the related error. When choosing a value of "Default" or "Fit Page", the PDF was produced correctly.
This problem was not encountered when printing to a .PS file and distilling.

Kernel panic caused when saving Photoshop file
Hi all,
Wondering if someone can help out with this kernel panic sitaution?
We've got two Creatives in the office who have recently both upgraded their iMac's to Mavericks 10.9. They both use Photoshop CS5 extended (12.1 x64). We have a Windows 2008R3 server and both are using SMB2 to connect to the server.
When they try to save an open Photoshop file they are editing, they get an error related to permissions. When they try to save the file again using a different name, their machines immediately kernel panics. Here's a panic log from one of their machines that just crashed now. Any solutions out there? This was not happening befor they upgraded to Mavericks, however they did get the file permissons issue.

Problem on saving Pages file in PDF format
I am using Pages on iCloud. When I add a picture and put a frame on it it looks nice but when I save this file in PDF format something happens with the picture frame. It is missing 2 borders from the frame. Is there a way to fix it?
I recommend you post in the forum for the software you are using to
convert.

How to view saved photoshop files without photoshop running?
Hello. I'm new here, and rather new to photoshop.
I've created some drawings, and want to view them later on without the photoshop running. Is that possible? or is it necessary to have photoshop installed and running every time I want to view (or even share) those files?
I'm creating (or trying to) a company logo for our family business. How can I send it to my husband in his email, and how can he view it if he doesn't have photoshop installed on his computer?
We will eventually need to use whatever I create for presentation to printers for doing our logo that I design on company stationary, etc. How can this be done?
Thanx...in advance...for any help or advice.

Hi Balqees,
As an aside regarding your company logo, I would strongly recommend designing it using vectors / paths for optimal printing sharpness and scalability. It you're creating a rasterized logo you may be disappointed should you need to scale it beyond the original artwork size. If you have questions or need advice I'd be happy to answer your questions.
Note: you can save a version of the Photoshop logo file as a jpeg for emailing to your husband. When delivering the logo file to the printer I would suggest either a size-as pdf or an EPS file. -
Hi,
I was wandering id anybody could help me with a problem that has plagued me for a few projects now. I can't seem to find a solution.
When I have a file in Illustrator that I want to save as or export as a PDF or JPEG whenever I save it the colours shift and the quality drops.
Most noticiably black boxes goes to a muddy brown when saved to JPEGS, but I have also noticed tones in Photographs change quite a lot when saving as PDF.
I have tried to tweek every type of setting there is. higher resoulution, compression, sampling, down sampling, PDF preset, print quality etc.but nothing seems to sort it out. PDF's arent as much as a problem as the JPEG but the only way I have managed to get a PDF up to a reasonable standard is by wacking everything up so there is no compression or downsampling which makes ginat files I cant email....
Im sure the problem probably lies within the combination of each of these together but I cant seem to find out what that is.
Has anybody else had this problem or know how to fix it? I have been searching blogs for so long?
Thanks
Leo
(Before saving to JPEG)
(After)
Notice the black box with text in has turned a bit brown
Also brown in the seat base has gone more orange and the whole picture has generaly lost quality.Leo,
The file is CMYK Color Mode. Do you export to a CMYK JPEG or an RGB one?
It is conceivable that the colour conversion of photographs (which are originally RGB) may cause the PDF issue.
