Saving pop3 email to the iphone

It is my understanding that there is no simple way to save an email on the iphone if you are using POP3 email.
(1) If you are using IMAP, then you can set up folders on the server and that works. GMAIL and many other accounts are IMAP and so you can forward email to those accounts and then use IMAP. However, Earthlink does *not* support IMAP, only POP3. Forwarding my Earthlink email to GMAIL seems like a silly cludge to me.
(2) If you really need to save an email, best trick I have heard is to "reply" and then "save as draft" and cancel out. This is also a cludge but should work for the email of your travel documents or other timely information that you need close at hand.
(3) Another trick is to Copy entire text of email and paste to a note. Again, this is a cludge.
ANY BETTER IDEAS???
COMMENT: I will be much happier with iPhone when they pay some serious attention to business folk who need (a) to be able to save email messages locally on the iPhone for quick access; and (b) need to access the "comment" field for long calendar or contact entries (where I often take notes). Both of those features work much better in Android and Blackberry and it is disappointing that Apple does not fix......

Forwarding email through Gmail works beautifully. I have an old Earthlink account that I still get some mail on so I have it pulled through to Gmail. Gmail neatly tags it as having come from the other account. I also have Gmail set so, if I replay, the receipient still sees it as having come from Earthlink. It's as fast as when I was getting the Earthlink email directly. It takes a couple of minutes to set up but I would hardly call it a kludge. Try it. You may find it solves your problems.
Best of luck.

  • How do you move POP3 email from the iPhone back to the server or computer?

Is there any way to get email that was downloaded to the iPhone using POP3 back on the server or computer? (other than resending all the mail)

    You're welcome.
Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is really designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
I access a MobileMe account and a business POP account with the iPhone's mail client. Since an IMAP account is designed to be accessed with more than one email client keeping all server stored mailboxes synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account, accessing an IMAP account with the iPhone's mail client is much more preferable to me. All sent messages are available with each email email client used to access the account. Read a received message with the iPhone's mail client and the message will be marked as read automatically when checking the account with the email client on my computer and vice-versa. I create additional server stored mailboxes to store received and sent messages by category and I can transfer messages from the account's Inbox or Sent mailbox to the designated server stored mailbox with the iPhone's mail client, with all server stored mailboxes kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
If messages were removed from the server with the email client used on your computer to access the account - transferred to a mailbox stored locally on your hard drive, you can transfer the messages back to the designated server stored mailbox.
Need to delete and recreate the account with your iPhone's mail client, or need to restore your iPhone with iTunes, all messages that don't remain on the server will be lost with a POP account including all messages sent with the account from the iPhone - which can be stored locally on the iPhone only unless you always Bcc yourself with every sent message.
Delete and recreate an IMAP account with the iPhone's mail client and all server stored mailboxes and the messages within will be available again automatically.
IMAP account access is the way to go with the iPhone IMO.

  • HT201320 When I access my email from the iPhone, hit "inbox", the new messages appear briefly, but then just evaporate.  I can't find them anywhere - not in inbox, not in junk, trash, saved - nowhere.  Can anyone tell me what is happening?

When I access my email from the iPhone, new messages appear only briefly and then immediately disappear, before I do anything.  Only old messages that were already in my inbox are visible.  I can't find the new messages anywhere -- they have not moved to Saved, Junk, Trash, anything.  IT is like the iPhone just ate them.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you have a POP3 account this means that another "client" email program has retrieved the messages and deleted the messages from the server. You need to change the server settings on that device to leave the messages on the server.
If you have an IMAP or MS Exchange account this means that someone read the messages on another device and either deleted them or moved them to another folder. Or there is an automated script that moved them to another folder.

  • TS3899 I can't access my yahoo emails in the email in the iPhone 5c it was working perfectly fine earlier an now it quit

I can't access my yahoo emails in the email in the iPhone 5c it was working perfectly fine earlier an now it quit

I have a similar problem. I was receiving email on my iPhone for months, and then it quit working. When it quit working, I continued to receive emails on my iPad even though the server and port settings were exactly the same between the two devices. I tried deleting and re-adding my email account on the iPhone and restarting my iPhone, but I still couldn't receive email on the device. The only way I could get email to work on my iPhone was to switch to using a POP3 email server (this is the server that my phone auto detected when I re-added my email account) -- the server that was working previously and that is still working on my iPad is an IMAP email server. Since the IMAP server settings continue to work on my iPad, it seems that the problem is with my iPhone and not my email server.

That is not a feature of the Mail app. Check with your email provider to see if it's a service they offer.

  • Can I save an email on the iPhone?

I downloaded some email onto the iPhone. It also downloads onto my Mac. When I delete it from the Mac, it disappears from the iPhone. Is there some way I can download the email from the server to the iPhone and keep it on the iPhone, even after I delete it from the server?

You can save it on your iPhone, depending upon what kind of mail you are interfacing with, and the settings you setup to control how it deals with the mail it pulls down.

I did not mean actually editing in the PDF, but just copying the text out of the PDF and pasting into indd... or Word.. .or anything. Regardless, just wondering if there was a way to avoid those line breaks.

  • Forwarding an email on the iPhone with an attachment fails

I'm not sure when this problem started but it's been going on for at least a week or two, possibly longer. I am operating at the latest firmware version (2.1).
I do not use Mobile Me.
If I send a pdf, gif, jpg attachment in an email from my work account, for example, to my Yahoo account that works. I go to the Yahoo account email on the iPhone and read the email and view the picture.
If I FORWARD the email to another person and choose to include the attachment, the email does not get sent. I get the error, "Cannot Send Mail - An error occured while delivering this message". The forwarded email sits in the Outbox and the iPhone periodically tries to send it but it never works.
I tried deleting the Yahoo account off the iPhone and then re-adding as was stated in one discussion but this did not work.
Is this an iPhone or Yahoo problem?
    Thanks, Matt

I have the same problem with my email address. It started about a week ago. It won't forward attachments but works fine with just text. If I use my wife's Yahoo address which is a sub account of mine it works fine. Exactly the same settings in both cases.
Even tried it on a different iphone and I get the same result.
My email does work fine though through Webmail and through Mail on the Mac or Outlook.
I'm betting it must be Yahoo though.
Yahoo have been'improving' their SMTP spam protection and I don't know if it has caused something on my Yahoo account to block anything with an attachment that comes from the iphone.
I tried calling them about it and after about an hour I convinced the 'technical support guy' (term used loosely) to see if there something different between the settings on the two accounts or to see if there was a message stuck in the system somewhere causing a blockage from the iphone. That's when the call dropped off and losing the will to live, gave up on talking to them.
I did put it in e-mail and may get a response if they pass it on to a real Technical advisor.
Will post again if I have any luck!

  • Searching Emails on the Iphone?

Is there a way to search emails on the Iphone? Lets say I have over 400 emails on my phone, is there a way to search for an email from a specific sender or on a specific subject? This is a standard feature of windows mobile and RIM mobile devices and is needed here.

Perhaps you should direct your input here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Apple will not hear you here on this user-to-user support forum.
There isn't currently any way to do this, but it might be made available in future updates.

  • Deleting Multiple Emails on the iPhone

Is there anyway to Delete Multiple Emails on the iPhone and have them not go to the trash folder, where you have to delete the a second time?

No. There is a thread on this about 10 posts down.

  • Is there a way of saving emails on the iphone 3G

Is there any way of saving certain emails for future reference indefinitely? They will all disapear after the max. 200 emails are used up.

Emails do not disappear unless they are deleted.
The max 200 setting you are referring to is "show" the 200 recent messages in each mailbox. If a mailbox has more than 200 messages, when you select show additional messages none of the first 200 most recent messages are lost/deleted.
You can create additional mailboxes for an IMAP account only but not from the iPhone. Additional server stored mailboxes for an IMAP account can be created with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, or via webmail access for the account using a browser. Any additional server stored mailboxes created for an IMAP account will be available automatically when checking the account with the iPhone's Mail client, and the mailboxes will be kept synchronized with the server automatically along with all other server stored mailboxes for the IMAP account.
This is not possible with a POP account.

  • How to delete a Gmail email from the iphone and have it remain on the iMac?

I use Gmail and have the email accounts set up as "imap". I would like to be able to delete emails from my iPhone 5, yet have them remain on the server. I read on the internet that it can only be done by changing the accounts from imap to pop3 accounts. However, since I also have an iMac and an iPad 3, I still want to be able to sync these so the emails can be retrieved on any of the devices.
I supose that the only way to do this is to remain with "imap" accounts. But, there may be another problem. I was under the assumption that once the iPhone reaches a total of 200 messages, it will start to delete any above this amount. In this case, I will start to lose my messages on the server. Even if this is not the case, I don't want the mobile devices to end up with hundreds of emails that I would like saved.
My question is this: How can I save the emails from the Gmail account to a separate set of folders that will archive these forever (if I choose)?  Can a folder be set up on the iMac with subfolders for each category that I want? If so, how is the actual move of the email done? Can it be copied to the new folder immediately so that later when it is deleted from the Gmail account, it is permanently saved in the new Mac folder?    Thanks

    Hello Kailua,
I know that you can mirror you iPhone's display onto a Apple TV, as can you with the Mac, but I do not think you can mirror your iPhone to your iMac.
    Sincerely,
    Devin
