Saving prior versions of a project

is there a preferred way to save versions of a project?
if i make new edits and want to revert to the prior version, is there a recommended way to save the prior version in the browser?
is it a good idea to save off each changed version for reversion purposes?

Well... you're asking a question with a lot of possible answers.
I usually just duplicate the sequence, give it a new name <myshow cut 14>
Then it's all there in the same project. At the end of the day I'll save off an archive copy of the project with the date appended.
And I have my autosave vault set for 10 minutes and 50 copies.
Does this point you in a couple of possible right directions? Everyone has a different way of doing things.

The latest Premier Pro CC 2014 update forced me to convert and create version of my project while guaranteeing that the project would not be altered; however, the timelines/sequences are not the up to date versions I had. I saved different version of this project for various purposes, but they were all named differently(i.e joe and mary wedding, joe and mary wedding 2, joe and mary wedding 3, joe and mary wedding 3.1). I do not know if they just pulled the timelines from the earliest version, eradicated the data entirely, or something else.
Since the program prompts me to create and save a new version for the updated premier, I still have the previous projects, but cannot open them. I imagine they are unchanged, but cannot be sure.
Thoughts? Is it possible to uninstall an update re-install it later?
Please advise.

Add to right click menu of timelines an entry for "go to next keyframe" and "go to last keyframe" a la After Effects, we should also be able to assign a kb shortcut to this.
There are buttons on either side of the create keyframe button to advance forward or backward in the effects control panel or timeline.
You can also advance forward or backward in the effects control window by holding shift while dragging the playhead.
Allow copy/paste of selection of audio/video effects, not just one at a time. Sure we can copy/paste attributes but since we can also copy/paste effects it would only make sense to allow to copy/paste a selection of effects.
I guess I don't get this one. If I have 5 effects on a clip, I can simply command-click on the ones I want to copy over to the other clip.

Unfortunately, no.
Opening the (last) "Saved" version after a crash automatically discards the contents of the (invisible) autosave folder.

It is very cumbersome to "re browse" for audio files/pics/movie clips to add to menu screens. Certainly there is a way to view the media and menu screen at the same time so I can drag and drop?

I think I know exactly what you are seeking and believe it cannot be done in Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13 as it can be done in versions earlier than 11 where the Disc Layout and Project Media are viewed side by side.
Premiere Elements 13 uses a Movie Menu customization workspace which is not allowing viewing of Project Assets in the Expert workspace at the same time.

Problems with saving and versions

i know you're all preparing popcorn for the iPhone release, but maybe one or two have got a minute to read this and help me
i'm using lion for a while, and ever since i'm losing files.
my problem is not the system, maybe i just didn't get how to use it, but i'm blaming having lost my files. :/
so, there's versions, and autosave. but simetimes i dran 'n drop a file i'm working on trom my taskbar (the little icon next to the filename) to my desktop. sometimes, but not always, it's corrupted. i don't always notice right away, so when i close the document (without saving of course) it's just a file icon, but there is no possible way to open it without getting a message.
i don't know if i'm not using it right, but "they" say you don't have to save your files, they say your files are saving versions, but so many times i can't go back to a version.
also i'm using a lot of photoshop, and just now something happened, and not for the first time:
i opened up a .psd that i was working on yesterday. when i wanted to save it (with crtl-S), it said "Could not save *documentname*.psd because the file is already in use or was left open."
of course the file is in use and open. how does the mufassa expect me to save a file without opening it up? and why would i save a file without using it before? this is not the first time, and i always have to save it using a different name, and then delete the old file...
i might have a thinking problem, but maybe you can still help me out?
can someone update me on how to optimize my workflow, so i can spend more time working, and less time looking for files or restarting documents?

This seems to infer that you are sharing the same project with another person? If I'm correct in my understanding, there are two major things wrong here.
1. You cannot share a project in a fashion where two or more users make edits to it at the same time. Doing so is an open invitation to disaster.
2. In order for two or more users to have access to the same Captivate project, it would have to exist on a network drive. Editing projects while they are stored on a network resource is another open invitation to disaster.
The bottom line here is that Captivate files must be edited from the local C drive by a single author. You may copy them to a network location for the purposes of backing them up, but that's it.

PE 9; can clip from scene line be saved to use in another project?

Hi-
First time post. Can a clip in the scene line be saved as a separate clip in organizer to be used in another project?
I have a long project that is comprised of many clips, and I would like to reuse some of them in other projects, or other versions of this project.
The "export" button seems to be grayed out in the files section.
Rename seems to be just to rename the whole project.
I guess I could just rename/save several times, then cut out all of the other clips, and just save the desired clip, but that seem like too much work to be the way Adobe really wants it to be able to be done. Is there a more efficient way?

How can I use footage from one project in another? First set the Work Area Bar to cover the part you want to reuse, and then Share it .
Export is only used to save titles files. All other options are within the share tab.

Error while saving a version

I have susscefully restored and backed up a version but while saving the version in Target environment I get error like.
Error message:14090:cannot mark version 740 as deleted.it does not exist in repository.
Please advise.

Since upgrading to Firefox 4, when I printed anything, I got a gray background covering the page. What I printed could be seen, but it wasted a lot of ink. I had to 'downgrade' to the prior version of Firefox; if it won't be supported soon, what do I do?

I am using Windows XP, SP3. I have experienced this printing problem with anything I print from the internet, any site. I can read whatever I am printing, but there is a light gray background on the whole page. I saw something similar in the problems already listed in the help section, but the fix in the about:config files did not help; same problem existed. The only thing that fixed it was to uninstall Firefox 4, and reinstall the prior version. I am now using version 3.6.17. I have read the warning when I start Firefox to seriously consider upgrading to version 4, and that the older version won't be supported, but since I can't print from it without wasting considerable ink, and having pages that are unattractive and difficult to use, I don't know what to do. Please help. I want to use the new version, but MUST be able to print clean pages, without a gray background on each one.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

I have a finalized project in iMovie '11. Shared it on Youtube, Facebook, and Vimeo. Then, when I shared it to iDVD, it reverted to a previous version of the project, so my titles and pictures were out of sequence. My final project is now gone!

I didn't notice this problem until after the DVD was burned in iDVD. Then, when I played the DVD in a public setting, I was a bit embarrassed by what played.

• iMovie ill behaving - Trash the iMovie pref file - use to set things right
• in reg. to Photos - Did You change iPhoto Photo Library - Then iMovie get's lost as it peeks into iPhoto on start up to see where photos are stored. Set iPhoto back to first Photo Library (when iMovie is not running) then start iMovie.

How can I make a new tab for FF 5.0 show my most visited sites like my prior version did?

Since I installed FireFox 5.0 recently, when I open a new tab, it is just blank. My prior version of FireFox showed about 9 or so of the sites I visited most often. I never set this in the old version. It just worked that way. I loved it. I have no idea how to make it happen in FireFox 5.0. I am even considering re-installing the old version because of this. I hope you cn tell m how to make this work.

There are a number of different "speed dial" or "fast dial" add-ons to do this. To see which one you had before, check your disabled add-ons. There could be an updated version.

I bought a volume license for CS6. How do I now get a serial number for prior version (CS5.5)?

I bought a volume license for CS6 Design Standard. Because of my system restrictions for now I can only run a prior version (CS5.5). I have also previously downloaded its trial version which works perfect. Now, after buying a license for CS6 I would like to get a serial number for a prior version as well. How would I go about receiving it?

You can request downgrade from Adobe, but you can't get back to CS6 after that, so it might be better to upgrade your system?
Anyway, in my laptop CS6 has been running faster and better than CS5.5 without any changes to system, so you could give it a try before downgrading...

I'm guessing - if you've uninstalled the previous version, then surely there's nothing left to "update", is there?
Can you undo the "uninstallation" procedure? If not, you will have to download iTunes again and install it as a new installation.

How can I get back my prior version of FIrefox browser as the update I downloaded 12-20-11 has NONE of my bookmarks & is ugly to boot.

Right after updating my Mozilla Firefox yesterday, a screen came up asking if I wanted to update my Firefox browser. It then described benefits of the update. It did not say it would NOT import my existing Bookmarks. After downloading the new browser I had NO bookmarks, or even a Bookmarks tab. Also there was a Yahoo! search tab which I do not want and an extra line of tabs that made the search result window below smaller, which I do not like. I would be happy if I got my prior version of my browser back with all my Bookmarks. Please help.
