Saving project for all versions of fce & fcp
I have been using fce on the move for a project but now i cant open in in final cut pro hd.
Is there any way of saving the project for all versions or older versions in particular.
Final Cut is not backwards compatible, but it might help if you give the exact version numbers you're talking about.

Why No Demo Version Of FCE/FCP ?
Over the past year I have seen at least a couple of requests for a Demo version of FCE/FCP.
It would seem sensible for Apple to give away 30-Day Fully Functioning Demos to prospective purchasers.
A number of other makers do it - like Adobe with their Photoshop etc. demos - and as far as I can tell they seem pretty secure!
Is there some technical reason for Apple not providing them?
It would certainly solve the problem of those people who are not sure whether either they or their cameras could cope!
Ian.Yes, I agree. They do the Demo with Aperture, so its not something new to them. Although I probably woldn't do it anymore becuase I already have FCE, it would be nice for prespective buyers. I guess they can head over to the local Apple Store to take it for a test run, but then you can't work on it with your own videos.

It says on the "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8" pg that this download is for all users and supercedes all earlier versions. Yet to the right is says you HAVE to HAVE 10.6.8 as a requirement. WHICH is it? Is it for all versions of 10.6 or not? Why isnt this made more clear?
And question is STILL not answered. WHICH is to be downloaded and used?

Found: In order to install update for Java, must update OS X from present 10.6.3 to 10.6.8

Any timecode window plug-ins for older versions of FCE?
Hey - thanks in advance for any help on this.
I use FCE version 1 on a G4 running OSX 2.9. The most commonly recommended Free timecode plugin doesn't seem to work in my version. I install it, but it's not visible in the bins where it's supposed to show up. I tried saving it as a unix and/or unicode and all that other gobbly gook that you're supposed to try if it doesn't install properly. Anyhow, none of that helped. I can only assume it's because of my earlier version of FCE or my OSX.
I need a timecode window visible on my finished project because I'm sending to a closed captioning place. Thanks again.

IMovie HD saved project in older version of iMovie. Now can't open/find it
Working on an iMovie HD slideshow. Saved it although had a warning that older versions could not open it. Since I only have iMovie HD, I assumed no problem. Now I cannot open the file. Received WARNING
' The project “___” was saved with an older version of iMovie. Opening it in this version will cause it to be upgraded, which will make it unreadable by older versions. ' Seems like my project was moved to iMovie Trash.
Questions:
(1) Can I retreive my project? If yes, how?
(2) What happened to my IMovie HD and how do I get it back?

Let's back up a bit. There are some things here that sound very strange, including that the project contains no project file with a tilde in its name.
Were you ever able to save the project successfully? If so, iMovie should have created a tilde file as a backup to your project file "aaa.iMovieProj". If the tilde file doesn't exist, that suggests there's some underlying problem that's causing a failure to save the project to disk.
Let's set aside that project for a moment. Use iMovie to create a new project on the same disk. In the Finder, choose Show Package Contents. (There will be no tilde file in the package for the project hasn't yet been saved.)
Drag the file "aaa.iMovieProj" onto the TextEdit icon in the Dock. The first few lines should look like this:

Close the TextEdit window containing the project file. Back in iMovie, save the project. Now a tilde file should appear inside the package.
Did iMovie save okay? Did the tilde file appear?
Try adding images to this project, then save. Did it save okay?
Quit iMovie. Re-launch iMovie. Did the project open successfully?
The only possible cause that occurs to me is that the disk the project resides on isn't formatted correctly. iMovie requires the Mac OS Extended disk format. If you are storing the project on an external disk make sure the disk has the proper format. More about that here:

You might also try discarding the iMovie preference file "com.apple.iMovie.plist", located in the Username/Library/Preferences folder. Be sure to quit iMovie before trashing it.

Estimated release date for Universal version of FCE-HD
Anyone have an idea when the Universal version of FCE-HD will be released? I recently purchased a new Intel iMac, mainly for video work and can't do much until FCE is released. Unfortunately FCP is just too expensive for my limited budget.
Unfortunately I don't have a purchasing track record with Apple. Actually, my last Apple purchase (prior to the iMac) was a pair of Lisa's. What do you bet the kids in the local Apple store never even heard of it. My plan at the time was to be an Apple developer, using the Lisa as a code development workstation. It never worked out in that my day job sent me to the Far East for several years and when I got back to my own software business, the Lisa was just a memory. Not having the money to retool in the Apple world, I moved over to Windows (3.0) and eventually became so heavily invested in Windows based software / hardware, there was no way to jump ship and return to the Mac. I promised myself that, once I retired, I would pack my last Windows machine to the recycle center and get myself a Mac... and here I am.
Anyway, the next time I am able to get out and around, I'll stop by the local Apple store and see what can be done, price wise. I don't hold out much hope, but it doesn't hurt (much) to try.

In the se80 choose you web dynpro application and the go to the menu Web Dynpro Application->Test->Execute in Administration Mode, now all changes that you do in the configuration will be saved for all users (if when saving you select the Assignment = All ).

Planning Funtion executed for all versions
Dear all,
I have a Planning function - a Fox formula written and I have assigned the function to a button in WAD.
When I click on the button and execute the planning function the formula executes for all the Versions in the Planning cube.
I have a variable for Version in the Filter of the query so I would expect the formula to execute and data to change only for the selection in the filter.
I have Version in Foreach statement but I would want the formula to work only for the data in the cube which is filtered in the filter section of the query using variables.
Any help is highly appreciated.

I am using Planning function. I am not using a Planning Sequence. If I use VARV in the FOX it prompts me again for variable value.
However, my problem is not just with Version, its with other characteristics too.
I have Cost Center, Company Code, Employee, Version and Fiscal Year as Selection Variables in the query.
If a user enters certain Cost Center and Employee I would want the Planning function to execute only for that Cost Center and Employee and not others.
Currently, if I enter one cost center the Input ready query result in 2 records. I plan for those two records and save it. The planning Function is executed in the background and executes not only for those 2 records but for all the other cost centers, Employees and Versions too. But I want the report to execute and save data only for the 2 records which are selected through selection variable.
Can you guide me how I can achieve this?
I donot have a filter for Agggregation layer, I have filter at the query. Few characteristics in the filter are filtered with constant and few are slected with a variable.
Can you tell me what the process is ? I tried FOREACH <variable> IN SELECTION statement but that didnt help.

Will Safari 5.1.10 work with all versions 10.6 or does it require 10.6.8? If it does require 10.6.8 then what is the latest version of Safari that will work with 10.6.6?

EricThis Mac currently has Safari 5.0.4. Software Update shows a newer version of iTunes and of course the combo updater to 10.6.8 but nothing else. I imagine the 10.6.8 updater contains a later version of Safari but I don't now which version it is and whether it is backward compatible with older versions of 10.6. There are a number of newer versions of Safari: 5.0.5. 5.0.6, 5.1.1, 5.1.2, . . . 5.1.10 to name a few but would any of them work with 10.6.6? In a similar thread a guy asked a similar question to mine: he had 10.6.6 and wanted to upgrade to a newer version of Safari. He tried installing various versions but was rejected each time. He finally asked if there was any newer version of Safari that would install on 101.6.6 - but he never got an answer.
Software Update displayed a newer iTunes but no mention of Safari. I wonder if this indicates that the 5.0.4 Safari that I have is the latest version there is for 10.6.6. Anybodyknow for sure?

This is a good one so bear with me, I'll try to be as precise as I can.
I updated FF to 6.0.2 yesterday and since then iGoogle (and perhaps other pages.. not sure on this) does not display correctly anymore.
Most evident is the fact that the links "Advanced Search" and "Language Tools" shown (usually) on the right side of the search edit box, don't show up anymore.
Other changes are the graphics which are used by the gadgets. In IE9 & FF before the update, each gadget showed round corners, not anymore in FF after update. Also, if I try to change the theme, the buttons "Add This" don't show up in FF now.
Now, here's the kicker! I completely removed Firefox from my system, meaning uninstalled it using the remove settings as well. I also deleted my profile folder & the Mozilla Firefox folder after the uninstall. Then I reinstalled version FIVE (5.0) to see if I could revert to the why things were back then, and behold, same problem!! So now, I can't repair my firefox to work properly even if I return to older versions!? wow
Tried system restore to a few days ago, that didn't fix it.
Tried version 5.x, 6.x and even the beta 7.x (all from scratch after uninstalling and deleting the profile folder + program files(x86) Mozilla folder) --- still NO FIX! ack! ;)
Frankly, I'm at my wits end on this one. I usually can repair pretty much anything computer/OS related, but this one has me stumped.

P.S. I also tried safe mode (took the broken FF picture in Safe Mode), but it has the same issues. In other words, I'm now officially unable to have ANY version of Firefox display iGoogle correctly anymore (5.x, 6.x, even beta 7.x). Be it bare bone, with or without addons, etc etc. All this caused by updating to 6.0.2 from 6.0.1.
Note that I've done tons of updates before without any issues. Also been using FF for the last 6+ years I think (been a while ;) )Turns out that it's iGoogle Styling that has changed! Not a Firefox bug (although there are bugs in the new iGoogle).
The changes to my homepage (iGoogle) happened just as I was updating 6.0.2. So this led me to believe it was a Firefox bug, and since IE9 still shows the OLD style on iGoogle, it reinforced this belief.
After reading up on it on the Google forums, and chatting with a great tech support on Mozilla tech, I realized it wasn't Firefox. So you can dismiss this as a human error ;)

Has been saving project for hours
Instead of saving after a few changes in iMovie 6, I probably did 50 changes of clips, music, etc. and it is still saving thumbnails after 3-4 hours. Can I force quit & pray, or should I still wait? Thanks, George
Were you doing something at the same time? Same problem happened to me last night while I was copying tons of movies and music from my laptop via my wireless network. The laptop's connection failed, causing the operation to fail. iMovie and the Finder window doing the copying had to be Force Quit, because they were hung.
The next time I opened up iMovie, I was asked if I wanted to delete some files that were in the trash. The files were all the changes I had made during the failed transfer. It was only a practice movie edit, so I chose YES. The movie was fine, but I could no longer edit the still photos, so somehow they were removed (not the actual photos). If I had chosen NO, perhaps everything might have remained intact (which is what you are hoping for). Hope this leads you to what you need.
