Saving raw file as a jpeg

I recently got a new computer and loaded photosop CS2 and elements4 on it. Unlike my old computer the raw plug in opens in elements it used to open in CS2. This in itself is not a problem however I dont seem to have the option of saving a file as a jpeg as I used to. All it will save it as is a DNG which is useless for what i need. It used to be so simple before. Would appreciate any help or advice but please dont make it too technical as I really am a computer numpty.

Just a shot in the dark, as I don't use either Windows or Elements:
ACR is crippled in Elementsin more ways than one. Try clicking on the Open button, rather than Save, then save in Elements as a JPEG.
You can (and should) change your File Type Associations in Windows so that ACR is hosted by Photoshop instead of Elements.

Why does photoshop 12 editor open my Nikon D90 Camera RAW files only as jpegs???

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
What makes you think that the raw files are being opened as JPGs?
Do you shoot RAW+JPG and opening the JPG files bt mistake?
If you are opening a RAW (NEF) file and it doesn't show the Camera Raw screen but goes straight into the editor then it may be that your screen resolution is too low.
    What is your screen resolution?

  • Strange colour spots (red & green) appear after RAW files converted to JPEG, anyone know how to fix it?

Strange colour spots (red&green) appear after RAW files converted to JPEG, anyone know how to fix it? Thanks.

I use "Export" function to convert the picture from RAW format to JPEG format, resolution 240 pixels per inch. Strange red dots appeared in the area supposed to be dark grey, as per the picture below. The red colour does not appeared in the original RAW picture when viewing from Lightroom, only exist in the JPEG it created. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

  • Saving a raw file as a jpeg

When I save a raw file as a high-quality jpeg, I am losing a lot of information and the image becomes a lot smaller when reopened. How do I prevent this?

The actual size of the file in megabytes cannot be a criteria for quality of the image. JPEG compression will work differently on every image depending on the image contents. Some images will compress a lot more than others. When you say that the JPEG is smaller, Could you share the actual pixel dimensions of the raw and JPEG images. What are you using to create your JPEG files?
Just one other comment. It seems to me that it would be extremely difficult to create a 50 MB JPEG image. It would be absolutely huge in size. I'm guessing that the site you are using is allowing the loading of file formats other than JPEG if they are allowing file sizes that large.

  • Imported RAW files corrupted but JPEG ok. Will this be ok in my library?

One of three of my SD cards imported about 10% of its RAW files with great chunks missing. I actually saved the folder onto external hard drive before trying to import with LR, and I CAN see quite normal RAW file images using iPhoto, but the same images are still fragmented when I import them directly from the external hard drive.
EXcuse use my ignorance, but can I import the jpeg images using Lightroom's DNG copy option (so that they are more stable); and will I be able to use them, and work on them, just as effectively as with all the successfully downloaded RAW images?
OR do I have to go back to Iceland for these 100 photos?!
    Thanks, Sandoise

That does not verify raw data, only embedded jpeg preview, which you already know is OK.
    Sandoise wrote:
I can see both RAW and JPEGS in iPhotos and they look perfectly good.
Well, seeing them in iPhotos does not mean raw data is good - it may also be showing just the embedded jpeg preview, which doesn't count.

Lightroom is the third way I've checked
Lightroom is for sure showing the raw (re-rendered) data, so it's the one to use to judge raw data integrity, as read by OS, from card, through your reader...
    Sandoise wrote:
How else can I check the card?
It's "impossible" to tell whether problem is card or reader, unless you try a few different readers. Try a few different ports and a couple different systems too if you can, to rule out system/port/reader possibilities. If raw data is bad no matter which system, which port, which reader you use - it's bad on the card. You still won't know for sure whether the card is bad or the camera is bad, or something else happened.., but bad card is the most likely..

  • Can't Open Photoshop-saved RAW file in Photoshop...

I've just gotten back from my school's library, where I was using one of the scanners to scan my negatives. I scanned the files directly into photoshop CS3. In retrospect, I absolutely should have saved in tiff, which has worked before, but this time I saved the files in raw. This is Photoshop Raw, not Camera Raw. I assumed that I could open these files back on my home computer (Photoshop CS4), but apparently I was wrong. If I try to open any of the raw files, I get a dialogue box called "Photoshop Raw Options", and if I hit "OK" I'm told something about missing color profiles, then I'm given an image of gray noise. If I change any of the settings in the dialogue box (files were saved at 16-bit grayscale with Mac byte order), I am told that "Specified image is larger than file," and I can't open the image.
What's going on? Why can't I open in Photoshop files that I just saved in Photoshop? Have my past few hours just been a total waste?

Yep, pretty much unless you know the exact size and can correctly fill out the required dialogs required to open a Photoshop "raw" file. The "raw" format is not, as you've found out related at ALL to Camera Raw. It's really a holder over format from the early years used back when there weren't some file formats available on some computer systems...and yes, you SHOULD have used TIFF.

  • IOS 5 Raw files converted to jpeg when imported

Prior to upgrading to iOS 5, when I imported my RAW images from my camera via the camera connection kit, they were not converted, re-sized, or altered.
Since iOS 5, my RAW files are re-sized, EXIF Data stripped, DPI set to 72, and converted to a Jpeg.
How do I stop this from happening?

It appears that I am having a simliar problem with Exif data.  When a photo is cropped in IOS5 it removes the Exif data including the GPS coordinages (this is how I noticed). Perpahs the new OS isn't handeling Exif data correctly. Response from Apple?

  • Saving raw files for iMac transfer

I am in the process of cleaning out my Power Mac to make way for my new iMac, and I have a website created by iWeb.
Does anyone know if I can transfer the raw files or save them as an archive, to transfer onto my new Mac?

Yes - transfer your domain.sites file where all the info from iWeb is stored.
Find it under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. Note, though that it is the User Library that you want and NOT your System Library - you won't find iWeb there.
Place your domain.sites file in the same location on your new Mac and you can then double click it and iWeb will open it - iWeb 08 domain files can still be opened with iWeb 09, but are not backward compatible.

  • Editing and saving RAW files as JPEGs

    Hi there
I'm using Windows XP with PE5.
I don't know if this is a PE5 or my PC problem. I shoot using (Canon) RAW format. These pics I then edit and save in either PNG or TIFF. However, I don't seem able to "save as" JPEG (from PNG or TIFF) in that when I select "save as" I do not get the JPEG option in the drop down list of available file types.
I originally got an error message stating "PE5 was either in use or there is an error on the hard drive". PE5 was definitely not in use elsewhere.
According to the PC's manufacturers tech support team, I will have to restore the PC which obviously I wish to avoid!!!
Can anyone help with this please?

The JPEG format does not support 16 bit images. You need to convert to 8 bit first.

  • How do I save a RAW file as a JPEG?

I am new to Apple and the picture I just loaded are in RAW.  I just went through and edited them.  How do I save them as JPEG for uploading to Shutterfly?
    Thanks.

Are you asking about saving the photos in iphoto on your MacBook Pro with Retina display?
This is the iPhoto for IOS forum.
In iPhoto on your mac select the photos you want to export, and then use the command "File > Export" from the main menu bar.
Set the "Kind" to "Jpeg" and select a "Jpeg quality" sufficient for the webpage you want to export to.
set the other options as you like them and press "Export".

  • RAW files converted to JPEG files on my mac can't be seen by my customer who has a PC: WHY?

I have been using Adobe CS5 for over a year now but only recently discovered how Adobe Bridge helps with work flow and post processing. My first time using Bridge I put all my RAW NEF files into folders and, after processing them in Photoshop, put all the JPEG files into a seperate folder. Before sending said JPEG images to my client, I batch renamed them to make sure the image file numbers were in the proper consecutive order. My client, who is a PC user, received these images and said she was unable to view them. Her computer system isn't outdated and I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm wondering if there was a formating change that happened when I did the batch rename or if the problem is Adobe Bridge altogether? I did all these on my Mac Book Pro which is only a year old..What am I missing??

Did each image have its .jpg extension? i think Windows likes to see the extension, Macs don't care.

  • Will aperture convert raw files straight to jpegs

at present I'm using professional photo shop to do my raw camera shot files, am thinking of buying aperture to use with my brand new all in one desk top mac, but need to know if it will convert raws straight to jpegs?

While I like and use Aperture for a couple of years now, I would recmmend caution in going there now.  According to other posts on this forum and various
articles on the Web, Aperture is being frozen in a prepare to die status.  Here is a ZDNet article on it.  If you search the web, you can probably find other
articles online.  Apple is saying that Aperture is being replace by the New Photo application announced in June.  There is very little if any information on what
Photo can do for a professional.  Some, including me, are expecting it to be a non-professional offering.  Personally I'm exploring Light Room 5 and Photoshop CC 5 to replace Aperture.
    http://www.zdnet.com/apple-orphans-aperture-imaging-pros-unhappy-7000031047/
Updates to Aperture have been fewer in the last few years except for Camera Raw which is part of OS X itself.
Here is another discussion on the issue which indicates that opinions vary:  Should I buy Aperture in July 2014 even though it's EOLing?

  • RAW files: View embedded JPEG next to RAW file

I would like the opportunity to view the JPEG thumbnail that is embedded in my Nikon NEF files, so I can see how the camera's adjustments look, and possibly use that while making my own adjustments. I know the embedded JPEG is tiny, but this might still be a useful feature.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but this is exactly my question.
Can I access a camera embedded JPG as a reference. I know I can't use it for the basis of editing but I would like to see it just the same. I know some other tools can do this, but can LR2 show that JPG.
Ideally it would be an X-Y comparison to my current image.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

  • Raw files saved to jpeg via bridge but now some jpegs won't open in CS5

I saved Raw files to jpeg via bridge but now some of the jpegs won't open in CS5, they only open in bridge?  How do I get them to open up in photoshop instead?

I'm not quite sure of your workflow, but here's a couple of things to try:
    1. Make sure the folder to be batch processed contains only JPEGs.
    2. In Bridge, go to Camera Raw Preferences (not Bridge Preferences) and change JPEG and TIFF Handling to Disable JPEG support. This should ensure that all JPEGs open directly in Photoshop.

  • No changes appear when batch editing Camera Raw Files and saving as jpegs

When I batch edit my raw files, including saving the file as a jpeg, from bridge or photoshop the resulting file saved never includes any changes I made in the Camera Raw editor. For example if I have lightened the photo by changing the exposure in Camera Raw as a saved jpeg after batching the file is still as dark as when originally shot. Is there some little box I forgot to check or something? Thanks!
    andy

I've seen something like this, but have not figured out why yet. In my situation I select a group of images in Bridge and go to Tools / Photoshop / Image Processor.
There I click the "open first image to apply settings" box.
    Save in Same Location
Save as JPEG, resize to fit (1200 pixels), Convert Profile to sRGB.
    No Action selected
    Include ICC Profile
Run it and in Camera Raw roll the saturation down to -100 (convert to b&W).
    Click "Open Image"
The process runs and the first image is converted to b&w, but the others are not.
