Saving scanned documents?

I consistently save scanned documents into my folders.  With this new Adobe Reader I use ctrl-shift-save to open and save the document.  Before, each time I used ctrl-shift-save it would open up the same folder.  Now it takes me back to the beginning and I have to click on the "drive," then click on my another folder, then another, another and another before I get back to the folder where I want to save the document.  This takes way-to-much time and I want to go back to the way it was.  How do I set the system so I can just continue saving scanned documents to the folder?

There is no control over this. But if it always opens in the same (wrong) folder, stick a shortcut there.

  • File names when saving scanned documents

When I scan a document and then try and save the same, The scanned document is saved hiwever the name that I give to the scanned document gets truncated. I dont understand why,  I am using windows 7

That is a long File Name.
Did you create this long file name system at the same time you started scanning these documents?
You have .pdf and .ld together as the file extension in the image you provided. What is .ld?
Can you go to the file name and rename it to add the other characters and it stays?
If not, I don’t think it’s the HP software doing this. It is most likely Windows.
The only thing I can think of is that Windows uses what’s called an 8.3 file naming convention. It is built into Windows and it shortens long file names for MS-DOS legacy applications. Every long file name has an alias that complies with the 8.3 file names for backward compatibility.
Take a look at this article from Microsoft on truncating names. This will explain what is happening (hopefully).
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142982
    Also,
Short file names may contain only the following characters:
    ·         Numbers (0,1-9)
    ·         Letters (A-Z, a-z)
    ·         Blank (blank spaces)
    ·         ASCII characters greater than 127
    ·         Special characters: $ % ' - _ @ ~ ` ! ( ) ^ # &
Long file names may contain only the following characters:
All of the characters supported by short file names
    ·         Special characters:  + , ; = [ ]
Length of the long file names are limited to 255 characters (260 for full paths = the file name and root of the folder) and short file names are limited to 8+3 or 11 characters (80 for full path names).
You can disable the 8.3 convention in Windows but there may be problems with some applications not being able to find files and directories that have long file names.
This Microsoft article explains how to disable 8.3 on NTFS partitions.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/121007
You will need to be logged in as an Administrator on the account. IF this computer is at your employers, you will have to contact their IT support for further discussion.

This operation takes effect immediately (no restart required).

  • Saving Scanned Documents to PDF

I am currently unable to save a scanned document to PDF after scanning. I choose save or save as and nothing happens. No screen pops up asking where to save the scanned document.
Windows 7 64bit and 32bit, Kodak Scanner I30 I40, Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 10. Any help would sure be appreciated.

I am sorry. Thought I was very clear. Where this is taking place is in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 10. I assumed you would know I was trying to save the scanned document to  PDF after using the create a PDF from a scanner. That is why I listed Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 10. I am able to print the scanned document to a PDF. This is happening on multiple machines with the configurations I listed in my first question. Windows 7 64bit and 32bit, Kodak Scanner I30 I40, Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 10. Enough Information?

  • Saving scanned documents/photos

I have a Canon MG6450 scanner, which I truly despise, but I don't seem to be able to save the scanned stuff anywhere and open it without using Finder or Preview.
Disregarding the scanner doesn't do anything I find at all useful, where am I supposed to save the scans and what do I use to open them? If I save in pictures I can't open them using iPhoto, keynote, pages or any of the programs that arrived with the mac, despite being assured that I could. It's a real pain having to use finder because I can't remember all the dates used or filenames, obviously!
II also have a major problem with email because I haven't worked out how to use Apple's mail client - I'm really that stupid - and hotmail is just the worst for compatibility issues, slowness and just being plain ugly. And nothing from my mac will upload so there's a real problem, I'm just glad I don't depend on it too much for my business, which would be bankrupt if I did.
Anyway, any help will be gratefully received, I really don't want to regret buying an iMac but they are nowhere near as intuitively easy to use as what's claimed, in fact not easy to use at all.

I've been away for a couple of weeks but thank you for your replies, still no nearer to being able to use saved scans or indeed any pdf file that I've downloaded.
Now I know what iPhoto is for I can ignore that completely - thank you Barney  - but still impossible to open pdf files with anything other than finder, provided I can find it in the first place! Even then, the option of sharing it is not usually there, and certainly no way of inserting any meaningful text by way of explanation of why a recipient should get a message with the title "This message has no content".
Helpful replies really will be gratefully received (and no, I have no idea how to copy and paste highlighted text on the forum either) but I don't need to be told I have no idea how to use a £1200 mac. Because that's why I'm asking and what the support community is for, so please, just a little shared knowledge because this computer just won't do anything I expect.
I've read the comments above, no good asking me "why not?" because I don't know, only that it should be possible, so I ask again: why can't I open a saved pdf file with pages, keynote or numbers? Or share them? Or attach to an email? Or decide where they're saved? Or decide what the file name is?
It can't be that difficult, I don't need to be subjected to ridicule, simply assisted and maybe I'll be assured a purchase for my business is going to enhance it and not just make a big hole in my accounts ledger.

  • How can I save a scanned document after updating to Mavericks?

Since updating to mavericks on my IMAC, I can not save a scan using my HP photo smart 3180 scanner.  I get an error message: the file could not be written to. Check properties for the file to make sure it in not in read-only.  I had no problem saving scanned documents before the update.

Not true, Image Capture can Save in PDF Format
and to anywhere you like, including Preview which can handle multiple PDF doc's.
If you do not like or do not wish to spend a little time figuring out Image Capture, then try scanning with Preview like HP is suggesting in the link that baltwo posted.

  • Scanned documents saving as .BMP instead of .PDF

I've had my laptop and all-in-one since June.  I've been scanning my little heart out and saving them as PDF's with no problem.  Until a few days ago when I was tempted to re-enact the printer smashing scene from Office Space.  Now when I scan sometimes it will save as a PDF but most of the time it will save as .bmp.  When scanning documents I select save as PDF but once the document is scanned and I go through the steps to save,  all pages are saved separately as .bmp instead of .pdf.  I haven't changed any settings that I am aware of and I'm not doing anything differently.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @mistinlaci
I read your post about the scanning issues you're having and I wanted to make my suggestions to you.
    Here they are:
Check for Windows Updates and complete them all:
    Install Windows updates
    Update Adobe:
    Open Reader or Acrobat.
Choose Help - Check For Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
    Once installed, restart you computer.
Try to print the PDF again.
Run the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results.
Please let me know if the troubleshooting steps helped!

I scanned documents to my Macbook Pro and it popped up on my screen so I know it scanned properly.  Then I did a "save as" and I tried as a pdf & a jpg and then when I go to my documents it won't allow me to open.  It shows it there but it is grey and not in bold black so when I click on it I can't open it.  I know nothing about computers so Help me please!!!!

  • Scanned document saved and when I try to insert into an email actual doc is copied rather than an icon pointing to doc

how do I save and insert into mail a scanned document?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You want to "attach" it not insert it. Save the document - note the name and location. From that location you can drag one or more files into the message wherever you want the attachments to appear. You can also click the Attach icon in the toolbar, or choose File > Attach Files.
If a recipient is using Mail or another email application that retains the order of the contents of your message, the recipient sees the attachment in the same location where you inserted it.

  • Saving scanned doc error message when using Mac Maverick with HP Photosmart C4795

When I use HP Scan to scan documents with my HP Photosmart C4795 it scans fine.  The problems comes when I try to save the scanned document. I get one of two things, an error message or black document.  I get an error that states "An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to.  Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only.  I know that's the location is not read only because I save documents there all the time from other programs.    When I get the black document, I open the file and its a black page with white lines going across.
This started happening when I upgraded to Maverick.  When I had snow leopard I didn't have this problem.  I looked for update drivers and there aren't any available on the HP software & drivers webpage.  HP help! Any suggestions please help.

    Hi,
That happens due to lack of compatibility of the HP Scan application for your device with Mavericks, it is not intended for the operating system and will cause issues while saving a file.
Be sure to run Software Update, then scan using Image Capture or Preview as listed below.. those are the scan solutions provided for Mavericks:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03550518&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
Once you launch Image Capture, I would suggest keeping it on the dock for easier access.

  • Is it possible to recover unsaved scanned documents after a crash?

I recently had several instances of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro open, some with existing documents and some with new unsaved scanned documents, when the program crashed. I was given no other option in the dialog box but to close Acrobat. Is there any way to recover the unsaved scanned documents I had open?
