Saving Segments in Final Cut Pro X

I was wondering if anyone knew how to save segments of an event project?
Basically, I need 8 parts of one video to be split and I don't know how I would go about exporting that into mp4 files. If anyone can help me out here that would be great.

Hi Ian,
It doesn't look like it's solving the issue. I've selected the range tool. selected the clip I want to save, went to Share>Export (Apple Devices...) . And then it shows me the whole clip and not the segment I need to save. Can you give me more specifics on how to use the range selection tool? Is it possible to maybe disable the clips I don't want to show and then save?
What I really need is to batch the clips and have them saved at each segment. I don't know if there's anything like that in final cut, if there is I'd like to know how to do that.

  • Problem saving back to Final Cut Pro

I'm sending clips from Final Cut to Soundrack, editing them, saving the changes in STP. But the changes are not reflected in the FCP clips. I re-save in STP, and FCP gives me a signal that media is missing. When I reconnect to the saved STP file, the clip's in and out points are misaligned in FCP. Just in case you are wondering: I've left both programs open for the procedure, they're stored in the same directory, and the sample rate for both is set to 48000 hz. Can anyone help?

sounds like your settings in motion are incorrect re frame size.
if I were using motion to do things I would view "fields" and use field rendering of any project then import the rendered quicktime out of motion and drop that in my FCP sequence. If changes are needed i reopen motion fix the offending parts and output again. FCP renders frames and sometimes panning and zooming can stutter when frame rendered.

  • Final Cut Pro Documents folder reappears after changing scratch disk.

After attempting to reorganize and cleanup my hard drive, I have come across the reason why I have such a random system to begin with. A while back I had the same problem, but chose to let it lie instead of fixing it. So now I'm asking for help.
I've tried to make a new folder in which all the documents, caches, and items having to do with Final Cut Studio 2 are placed, instead of having some applications' files here and others' there. But my problem is that even after changing my scratch disk location and my waveform/thumbnail/autosave locations to the new folder, every time I open up Final Cut Pro, it creates the "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder once again.
Will I have to rebase my whole organizational scheme around this stubborn issue?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
*I am running Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro 6.0.6).

Well, I'm really trying to simply recreate this file under another name, "Final Cut Pro," instead of "Final Cut Pro Documents," and therein lies the problem, because it creates this folder by default. Right now I've got everything saving to my "Final Cut Pro" folder as my scratch disk location, and a blank "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder that I want to delete.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Saving as Quicktime or Final Cut Pro Movie File

More a general question about compression from Final Cut.
Source - HDV 3 min movie
I compressed using default settings for Export > Quicktime Movie. (Result - a Final Cut Pro Movie File)
Also I used default settings for Export > Using Quicktime Conversion, except I boosted to 'Best' quality. (Result - a Quicktime Movie file)
The latter resulted in a file size twice that of the first (in theory higher quality) but stuttered on playback once burned to disc, although plays fine from Mac hard drive.
Tried this with more than one movie and same problem of stuttering playback with higher file size QT Movie once burned to disc. Wondered what might be causing this.
Also what are the pro's and con's of saving either as a Quicktime Movie or Final Cut Pro Movie File?
    Thanks

You can't "improve" the quality of what is already a digital video. The "data" that makes up the video can't be improved once the camera records it as a file. There isn't even a theory about this. Going from one codec to a higher codec does not "add" any quality. In fact, your method is degrading your quality, as you're causing your HDV data file to be re-encoded twice to another HDV file.
You're creating a larger size video file, with less quality do to doubling the compression generation with QuickTime Conversion, and it's the unnecessary increased file size that is making the CPU work overtime to play it back.
Export > Quicktime, self-contained, this is the BEST quality you'll get, the most efficient playback, too.
If you want it to play back easier, convert it to H.264 (quality set to medium, trust me), or ProRes 422.

  • Final cut pro x - Title changes are not saved!

    Dear Sirs,
I have a big project I am working on in Final cut pro x that contains about 300 subtitles (created with the basic title tool), and now when I make text changes to these titles, quit the program and open the project again those changes are gone....!!! This is a serious problem for me, any help concerning this would be greatly appriciated.
    Thank you,
    Oded

You might not have a compatible video card. It needs to be "OpenCL" compatible. What mac are you using, and what video card? This info is available using the "About this Mac" menu item; click "More Info" to get to the video info.

  • How do I access previous saved edit versions using Final Cut Pro X?

Final Cut Pro X unexpectantly quit and when I reopened it all of my edits were lost. Is there a way to access the automatic save vault so I can get back all of my work? Please help!
    Thank you.
    Madeline

Locate the project file with Finder. If you are using version 10.0.3, inside the folder is another folder called Backups.
Double-click the file in there. Unless you backed up your project, this is your only hope of recovering your project, but of course, all your original media should be safe.
Always keep backups of important work - on at least one external hard drive.

  • Problem saving automatic backup in Final Cut Pro X

I get the following error every few minutes when working in Final Cut Pro X. I've tried typical strategies like repairing permissions and using Digital Rebellion software tools, and have no idea how to fix this:
What makes no sense is that the location, does in fact, exist. If I change the location, no matter what I choose, the same error occurs. I can even select my desktop at the backup location, and the error will come back telling me that the location does not exist.
Any ideas on how to fix this and get Final Cut Pro X to actually see the backup location and create the backups there?

You are the third user I heard of with this "non existant backup" message.
AFAIK there is no reason given as to WHY it occurs.

  • Saving Final Cut Pro on an external hard drive

Hi i was just wondering how you save a event from final cut pro on a external HD every time i do it it saves on my Macs SSD help.

Alternatively, if you are just creating an event, you can select the hard drive to use from the list at the top left corner of the Event Library.
In the shot below I clicked on the WD 2TB drive before selecting File>New Event, so the event was created on that hard drive.
Selecting where your projects go works in a similar way in the Project Library.

  • How to save Final Cut Pro project to an ftp server to then open on a different computer

Hello, I work for a graphic design firm that also does video production for businesses. We are using Final Cut Pro X in our office which has an FTP server connected to all office computers.
What we want is to be able to have on employee start a project in Final Cut Pro X, save it to the server; then have another employee open up the same project and continue working from a different computer.
Right now, we have a lot of our Final Cut files saved to the server, and the files will show up in the server on the other employee's machine. BUT, we scroll in the server to the file for the Final Cut Pro project on the other computer, and the file is grayed out, unable to be opened on the new computer.
I've tried right clicking and choosing "open with Final Cut" and Final Cut does then open, but right before it opens the project within Final Cut, a message comes up saying "The document could not be opened. Open documents from within Final Cut Pro," which of course, I see no way to do that from within Final Cut Pro.
I've also called Apple Care, they reminded me that we can't have one project open on two computers at the same time, and that's fine. We are willing to close the project on computer one to then open on computer two.
If you have an answer let me know. We don't want to have to load onto an external hard drive to then load onto the other machine, especially since we have a server ready to go.
    Thanks for your help.

You can share projects via the ftp server, but you need to:
    1) Have all the media in identical events on each editor's machine;
    2) Set up the project  and share the entire folder for that project first;
    3) Afterwards, you can share just the project file itself
You CANNOT work directly on projects and events stored in the ftp server.
See Steve Martin explain how to do all this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu-ga7fxKh8

  • Burning a video from Final Cut Pro using iDVD

When I export and save my video from Final Cut Pro to a folder (export->Using Quick Time Conversion). When I do that there are several different videos that are saved in my folder (ie-Kelly Michelle; Kelly Michelle-av1; Kelly Michelle-av2; Kelly Michelle-av3; Kelly Michelle-av4; Kelly Michelle-av5).
iDVD is the program I need to use, I do not have any other programs. Therefore, I import the file to iDVD and once everything is ready in iDVD I try to burn the dvd. However, in the last stages of burning a window pops up and says that "an error was found during the burning process". It does not tell me what kind of an error it is. Does anyone have any advice or a step by step process that I need to do in order to burn my dvd successfully.

The simplest way to prepare a video for iDVD is to *Export/Quicktime Movie* (NOT Using Quicktime Conversion), select Current Settings, Audio and Video and, depending on your needs, other 2 options:
o- +Make Movie Self-Contained+ is preferred to have an independent movie (you can move the exported file, you can continue editing your FCP project before burning the exported version, etc.) but requires more disk space and more time for exporting.
o- +Chapter Markers+ (NOT All Chapters) must be selected if you created Chapter Markers in FCP (markers in the timeline, not the clip, and clicked the Add Chapter Marker button in the marker dialog).
The resulting .mov file (whether self-contained or reference) may be easily imported to iDVD.

Not only is Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 incompatible with Intel Macs, it's also incompatible with Leopard. The reason it used to work was pure luck. When you run an outdated version of Final Cut Pro you live on borrowed time because any future operating system or QuickTime update can break it.
The solution is to purchase a newer version of Final Cut Pro that is compatible with your processor and operating system. As you have a prior version of Final Cut Studio you can upgrade for $299 (even less if you shop around).
