Saving source code
Hi Experts,
is there any possibility to save the source code with 1 step? (E.g. main program in one file, includes in another file(s), etc...)
So I would like to save the main program and every subroutines that belongs to it into one or different TXT files "with 1 click"!

Unwanted source code appears in browser but not in Dreamweaver Code Window
I am using templates and css, and Dreamweaver to build a new website of about 20 pages. With the first several pages, everything was working well. Then as I continued to add pages, I started to notice some code appearing at the bottom of web pages (under the footer), and then, a page duplicating the footer, and then, the drop-down function on the index page not working (pulls down and pops right back up) while headers on other pages work fine. I viewed the source code in the browsers (IE and Firefox) and I see the extra code at the bottom. However, this code doesn't show up in Dreamweaver, or, when I open the files in Notepad.
Following is an example of the different bottom-most lines of code in the Firefox browser compared to what I see in Dreamweaver or Notepad (note the highlighted line that is not showing up in Notepad or Dreamweaver).

i was having the same issues through many dreamweaver upgrades and kept running into the same problem (only on my Mac though - PC never gave me trouble). anyway, my hard drive recently died and i had a brand new one installed and then i installed a fresh version of CS5. started building a page and ran into the same problem. now that this is happening on a new drive with a fresh OS and reinstalled software, i needed to look elsewhere.
the problem is so simple you will more than likely cry at the amount of time you have wasted on it. more than likely if this is happening to you, you are working off of a network drive or a server. all my files are stored on a server locally, so when i make a change it is saving to the server. either a bad or slow connection to the server and/or a server going bad will cause this issue.
take the same file that you are having problems with and save down to your desktop - then preview in a browser. so the solution is to build the entire site on your local drive and then FTP up to the live site when complete.

Source code jumps around when re-opening page?
Is the following a common problem with Dreamwver CS4 Source Code view?
In an effort to make the code read nice and neat, like everyone else I try to indent and nest my code. For example:

But, upon saving a file and then later reopening it, I notice that in places the file does not keep my intended spaced nested layout i.e. the code jumps around on a line and I lose my neat indent spacing. For example:

I have tried to set my preferences > code format > tab size to 10 to produce a larger indent which has improved the problem a little but not fixed it.
Others must have experienced this frustrating problem.
Is there anything I can do to fix it, like set further preferences to give me complete control over the page?

With regards the CSS, I found out about it on Lynda.com training videos.
- Dreamweaver CS4 with CSS Essential Training > Chapter 13: Testing and Deploying CSS > Formatting code for deployment
The process is as follows:
On Dreamweaver CS4 click Edit > Preferences > Code Format > CSS (button)
On the CSS Source Format Options screen, de-select the "Each property on a seperate line" check box and click "OK" and then "OK".
Then on your CSS page, in the left side panel, click "Format Source Code" and the "Apply Source Formatting" selection.
The code will then condense for deployment.
You can reverse the process just as easily going backwards.
If anyone else has any ideas on code jumping around on a line please do let me know. Thanks. -

I am trying to save some rather lengthy CF codes in a variable, ie. <cfset mycode = " ... all the codes here ...">. However the codes to be saved may contain double quotes (") which would create a conflict. I know of cfsavecontent which does not require double quotes; however that tag would process the codes rather than save them as string.
Is there an alternative way to saving the codes as a string in a variable?

MCLFor some reasons, I wasn't able to save this input into a variable. I ended up having to save them in a file and call it as a template using cfinclude.
Code needs to be compiled before it's executed, and the compile process runs before the code is run. So one cannot have runtime expressions that write code and then have the expectation of it then being able to be executed within the same template.
As Dan alludes to, the only way of doing what you want to do is to write the source code to file, then <cfinclude> the file. Including an file that has not yet been compiled will trigger the compilation process before executing it, so your "runtime" code will indeed execute.

Hi,
I upgraded to OSX Lion - which was only possible after erasing everything on my system. Since I now start up with with a 'clean' account, I wanted to take the opportunity to optimize my source code organisation.
Since my sources are really checked out from an online repository, I don't think I should keep them in the Documents folder but rather in some other folder, like Users/guy/Development. Does this make sense? Any thoughts or experiences from other developers here?

Source Code Longer Than Table --Dump. Wht to do?
Hi All,
I have created a Z-subrouitne pool and coded print program with Entry rountines for smartforms in it. When I tried to maintian the output control, stating the name of program and entry rountine of it, it is throwing dump while saving.
it is saying:

The detail is:
An exception occurred. This exception is dealt with in more detail below
. The exception, which is assigned to the class 'CX_SY_READ_SRC_LINE_TOO_LONG',
was neither
caught nor passed along using a RAISING clause, in the procedure
"NAST_FORM_EXISTENCE_CHECK" "(FUNCTION)"
Since the caller of the procedure could not have expected this exception
to occur, the running program was terminated.
The reason for the exception is:
You tried to read the program "SAPMZMM_PRINT" from the database. The READ
REPORT
statement allows you to copy a program's source code into an internal
table. The lines of source code must not be longer than the width of the
internal table. <b>The internal table is 72 characters wide. The source
code line is 87 wide. </b>
But I kept all the line (and re adjusted the longer one) within 72 char. the why am I facing this error? please suggest how to correct it.

in order to be sure, open the abap editor and click Utilities->Settings and check Downward-Compat. Line Length (72). Then go to SAPMZMM_PRINT and do a pretty print or just activate it. This should be ok.

Need a code to download the source code of a Program in a text file and all the includes of that program in a separate coressponding files. <b>This should be with scan and read report statements.It should be with classe CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES but not with function modules.</b>

Load CF varibales into javascript array without outputing to source code
I have a javascript array for dynamic dropdowns - Automobile, makes,models, etc.
The javascript arrays are populated by by cf queries
Everythign works and functions fine - but it also loads the entire array (hundreds of lines of code) into the browser source code.
I would like to have the javascript arrays hidden from the browser source code by calling it:
<script language="JavaScript" type='text/javascript' src='../js/super.js'></script>
But when I code like this, the js file 'super.js' does not run the cf variables.
The only way I can get it to function right now is to save a cf file called 'super.cfm' and have it run the cf query, then list the javascript code under the query on this cf template.
THis works - but again, it causes the entire javascript code to be visible to the browser source code...
any ideas? - I am on cf 7

I ended up rethinking the whole process and realized that I only update my vehicle make/model list about once a week
So what I ended up doing was creating the the dynamic javascript arrays through cf - and rendered them in a browser, then took the browser source code (the fully rendered javascript arrays) and saved them as a static js file
My website uses this js file on every page, so I no longer need to call queries on every single page to populate the javascript arrays - they are already built and I am guessing cached by the browser (browsers cache js files right?)
SO this runs more efficiently.
The only draw back is that when I add a new vehicle to the list in my database, I will need to manually do the same process of rendering the new js code, then cutting and pasting it into my static js file that gets called by all pages.
So it loses the realtime updates - but this only happened once a week anyway - and it only takes me five minutes to create the new file.
We'll see if I get sick of manually creating a new js file each week - probably, but this seems better than making the server re-render the code on each page.
Does this make sense? - would this be less overhead on the server than implimenting your concept?

Can I deploy Mathscript subfunctions without revealing .m source code?
Good morning.
I am developing MATLAB algorithms containing functions and subfunctions. To integrate them in LabVIEW, I plan to use Mathscript nodes. And if I do so, I have to leave the subfunctions .m files in a repository on the PC (right?).
My problem is that I do not want to reveal these easily readable files when deploying my LabVIEW code. So I am looking for a way to deploy this code without making my source code available and open to all.

Now, as I understand from my readings and my experimentations, when I put the function and subfunction files in the "LabVIEW Data" file, the functions name in the script S1 copied in a Mathscript node will appear in purple (by default). The node executes fine then. But if I copy the functions in Mathscript nodes in other VIs, the functions name appear in grey, and the node won't work. I don't know how to point to these other Mathscripts... Is there something I miss here?

While there are many similarities, there are also a lot of differences, and Matlab code is definitely not 100% compatible in MathScript. It is not possible to make any changes; you have to delete and recreate the program from scratch.
I hope you saved a backup copy of the source code, otherwise you could re-import the transport requests that contain your source code, a kind of versione restore.

Missing setup statements when exporting to java source code

I am busy designing a new Java environment for our company. We are migrating from Forms to JEE. I would like to know what would be the best practice (if one exists) wrt source code management. Currently I am going with the following,
1. All original source code saved on development application server (Linux).
2. Use SVN to manage source from development application server.
I am not totally convinced that this is the correct method of managing source code.
What are my options?
Should the source be placed on a seperate file server independant of my application server?

Leon.Development servers is used to be quite unstable sometimes so I would prefer to store the SVN repository on some kind of file server, where a file backup procedure is already implemented. If you're using some kind of cruise control or automatic testing you could checkout the source code to the development server to run it from here or to build distributions.
I'm familiar with both CVS and SVN and think that SVN is serving us best. We're just using a file based repository, on a network drive, protected by the normal file system permissions mechanism. I'm almost always using Tortoise SVN as client but the SVN client in JDeveloper is just fine, but I think the Tortoise SVN plugin in the explorer is just better.
