Saving tags back to file.

I'm using v1.0 Trial here.
Is there any way to save tags edited in Lightroom back to the actual file?
because it seems that the tags only get stored in the DB only, which is quite inconvenient.
Thanks.

I would be very surprised to find that lightroom is capable of corrupting jpegs by writing metadata to them. Can you describe how this happened?
I was in the process of correcting the lens information (to clean up the metadata browser) using the technique described
here.
There I noticed that with jpegs no xmp file is created but instead the EXIF part of the original jpeg file is updated, thus changing the original file including the file attributes. I didn't say it corrupted the images, it just changed the files on disk, which I dislike. These are after all my negatives and I like them prestine.

  • Saving Metadata back to file

If I update metadata in a file that I imported (as a reference) into Aperture, is there any my to save (i.e. update) that data back to the file?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    No.
Furthermore, Aperture (as of 1.5.3) will probably then reject the referenced image because its size/contents have changed.

  • I will never ever trust saving and back up my files with Apple anymore!

I would think backing up all my files on iTunes is a safe bet.
When I lost everything on my ipad after restoring, whatever I have backed up in iTunes was not able to sync it back into my ipad even if I chose to install it back using existing back up files on iTunes! nothing!!
what is all this synching for if restoring doesn't even work to bring all information back into my ipad??
Before, I was able to see all the files in an app on iTunes and now not at all!!
If I could use strong langauge here, it would be endless!!
My days with Apple is over!

The iPad backs up to iTunes on your Mac.  Then, when your Mac backs up, the iPad data is backed up as well.
Or, the iPad can back up to iCloud.
See this Apple Support document for more info on iPad backups:

A good product to back up your Mac would be an Apple Time Capsule, which is an AirPort Extreme with a built in hard drive.

  • Could not be saved because the source file could not be read.

I tried to download and after a while, this error message: ''[filename] could not be saved because the source file could not be read.'' I've been on google searching but I could not find the answer can someone PLEASE help me. it happened when downloading a game and I've already seen a few times before but it was less important.
sorry for the bad english I used a translator.

This problem isn't only happening with Firefox 4, for windows, as the System Details, and Tags indicate.
I'm using a Mac laptop (OS X 10.5.8 -- Leopard), using Firefox 6, and have been having this problem with large files for quite a while ... possibly since FF 4, but definitely with FF 5. The large files I've had the problem with are in the 500 - 900 MB range, and from commercial sites as well as most recently with a zip file containing photos from a friend which he uploaded to dl.dropbox.com ... attempted it numerous times, after trying the various suggested "fixes", and each time at around 255 MB, the download quits, with the error that file cannot be read from the server.
The various proposed solutions I've found on the web -- resetting the user configured options connected to downloads in FF config (about:config); deleting the compreg.dat file in the FF profile folder, don't pause the download (never have done this) etc.
Others have opined that the problem is flaky intermittent WiFi, or Security/Anti Virus software interfering with FF's accessibility to the file during the download; or a caching problem at one's ISP -- HOWEVER Safari doesn't experience this problem at all. Each time that I've experienced it in FF, I launch Safari, and can download the file completely without any errors.
Would really like to see someone from Mozilla respond to this ... lots of us are experiencing it.
Whatever happened to Netscape's ability to recover from download interruptions and resume a download at the point where it had been interrupted (like when a dial up modem dropped the line in the middle of the download) -- sure would be useful to see that feature come back in FF.
    Thanks,

  • Move metadata & tags to original file

I installed PE 4.0 a year ago, and organized my many photos that I had taken since 2001. I always saved the original photo files to one master file, with subfolders by year that the picture was taken. I then would use the camera software to rename the files which I then saved in various folders (for business: by client name; and for personal photos: by event or subject). I did not have a lot of hard drive space, so I  often backed up and copied files to off-line media. Now that I have installed a much larger hard drive, I have moved all of my photo files onto the hard drive. <br /><br />I would now like to take all of the metadata & tags associated with these copied photos (almost 10,000 photos) and move it to the original photo(s) so that I can then delete these copies of the originals that are spread all over the place.<br /><br />I could <GET> the original files and bring them into the collection. I could then retag and retype the information on every photo, over to the original file and then delete the copy. Does anyone have any suggestions on a faster method of moving all of this date to the original files?

I started by importing all of my existing photo files into PSE and tagging them and adding captions. Before PSE, I would download my photos using software that came with my camera. My first camera was a Kodak easyshare. It would download the files from the camera to a folder: "Image Transfer/Photos <year>/<date of download>/DSC00xxx.jpg". <br />It would then open the files for editing. I would rename the photos and file them under sub-folders in "Business" and "Personal" folders. I backed up the original "Image Transfer" files frequently. <br />When I installed PSE 4.0 a year ago, I imported the photos in the "Business" & "Personal" files, rather than the original files in "Image Transfer". At various times I have had corrupted files and had moved some photos without using PSE. I have "re-connected" several times, not always to the copy that was originally used, but sometimes to another copy stored elsewhere on the hard drive or sometimes to the original photo in "Image Transfer". <br /><br />In the process of adding a new hard drive a few months ago, I moved files and copied files and backed up files all over the place. I now have copies of all of my 10,000 photos in PSE, or should I say at least the thumbnails, with all of the tags and metadata. I have had to "re-connect" many of the files. I now have most of the thumbnails connected to a photo file, but often that file is a copy of the original and the  copies are spread out over many files (the original "Business" and "Personal" files as well as various other copies or backups that I have spread over 3 hard drives).<br /><br />I would like to take each thumbnail and have it point to the original photo file  (under "Image Transfer/Photos 200x/<date file originally saved>/DSC .......), rather than the copy. I could then get rid of all of these other files spread over the hard drive. Remember that the original files have no tags or captions. How can I get the tags, captions and metadata moved or copied from the copy over to the original?<br /><br />I hope that this is clearer.

  • In mail, my mail is saved as an outlook file by default. I want to change default to mail?

In mail, my mail is saved as an outlook file, i want it saved as a mail file? Change default, how?

Thanks, but this is what's happening:
    In Mail, Contacts, Calendarts>Add Account
    Add a MobileMe or Other?
If I choose MobileMe, it asks for my MobileMe account. If I enter that info, it tells me I already have that account set up, which I do.
So I clicked the Create Free Apple ID button on the same screen, below.
This goes to a New Apple ID page
    I enter location and DOB
This goes to a New Apple ID page
I enter all of the information as required, then click Done
    I get an error:
    Cannot Create Apple ID
If you have an @me.com email address, sign in using your MobileMe password
This takes me back to where I started without a solution.

  • Missing ID3 Tags on Song Files

I have a obscure problem with iTunes that has me very frustrated. I selected my entire music library, then right click -> get info -> check boxes for artist, genre, album, etc and then hit okay. I thought this would look for missing tag information in songs and fill in the blanks, but instead it erased the tag information for all the songs in my library.
Luckily, my hard drive was spared. When I open up the C: drive and look at my music folder, nothing has changed. All of the mp3 files are still tagged with the correct information. The only problem is that when I try to access songs from iTunes they appear to have no such tag information.
I have tried fixing this by deleting everything from iTunes and then adding it all back, but this didn't help. Reinstalling iTunes and a full Windows system restore didn't help either.
The result of this is that I'm afraid to sync my iPod with my computer until this is all resolved. Any insight into the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ooops. You just created a lot of work by erasing the tag info.
I think there are some scripts out there that can fill in ID3 tags based on file names.
This page is from an apple discussions regular poster:
    http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp
You could try the "TagFromFilename" script.
For future, itunes does not have the ability to update tag info like Windows Media Player does. I suppose you could see what WMP will do, before trying that script.
Since I haven't used either one to do this, I can't say how well either works.

  • Hi,  Had boot issue and got the following from DU repair function on Macintosh hd: updating boot support.....Error: Disk utility can't repair this disk.....reformat and restore backed up files. How is that done or do I go to Genius?

In reference to question the computer gave no warning but lost internet connectivity.  I shut down for a while and when returned it would only boot to gray logo screen with spinning gear.  Ran disk utility and on Mac HD drive it stopped after "Updating boot support partitions as required". Then in red: Error: Disk utility can' repair this disk ....disk, and restore backed up files.   I'm running OS X 10.8 and had just updated the iOS about three days ago.  Not familiar with reformat process on MacBook Pro and would like some ideas whether I should go to the Genius Bar here in Sydney or try it on my own.   I have been using time machine to back up to a 1TB La Cie drive right up to the crash.   Thanks for any advice.

Well it turned out the drive was shot.  Took it to the genius bar yesterday and they ran a test on the drive before trying the restore routine again.  Drive failed.
Replaced the drive and got the MBP back today.  Pretty quick and decent service once you get an appointment.
Now having trouble figuring how to do the Time Machine  saved files.  Have several applications which I'd like to keep but not sure how to trans the apps from my backup to the new.  Hunting for answers on that on the web.
    Thanks for you help, Eustace.

  • Saving and backing up iMovie projects

Here is a question I never dreamed I'd be asking: how do you save an iMovie "project"? Since 1984, every Mac application has had "Save" under the "File" menu where you could name and save your file. "Save often" became the main way to avoid disaster in the event of a application malfunction. Idiocy reigns at Apple; saving is no longer possible. Now I know iMovie is supposed to auto-save, but really...the Web is full of disaster stories of crashed apps and lost files.
Anyway, I want to do several things: 1.) I want to save my project so that I can open it at a later date and work on it again. 2.) Related to #1, I want to start a new project, confident that my old project is still accessible. 3.) I want to do twice daily back-ups of my working project so that if iMovie crashes I don't lose more than a half day of work.
All of this has become almost automatic in my nearly 25 years of working on Macs. File saving and backing up are one of the few constants that, until iMovie, were unchanged. Apple, in a regrettable display of poor decisionmaking, has abandoned this tried and true procedure. I really hope I'm missing something simple and I have to eat my words. Can anyone help me save my files? Thanks. By the way, no Time Machine here. I want to save these files manually.

Quit iMovie and open it later when you want to restart your project.
2.) Related to #1, I want to start a new project, confident that my old project is still accessible.
In iMovie, menu File > New. It will open a dialog box that allows you to name your new project and set the aspect ratio you will use.
You can see your old projects by clicking the "Project Library" button at the upper left corner of the iMovie window. It will show you all your projects. You can duplicate or rename any project, as you wish, in the library. If you want to edit an older project, select it in the library and then click the button "Edit Project" in the upper left corner of the iMovie window.
3.) I want to do twice daily back-ups of my working project so that if iMovie crashes I don't lose more than a half day of work.
iMovie store the projects and project events in the folder Home Folder username > Movies > iMovie Projects and Home Folder username > Movies > iMovie Events. Feel free to back up those folders as often as you'd like. I would incorporate some kind of naming convention that allow you to readily see the date/time of your backup, but that is up to you. If you crash for some reason, you can restore the contents of the folders from your backups.

Well, hmmmmmmm. Most mission critical software that I know, such as QuickBooks Pro, or Filemaker Pro do not have save commands, as I guess the designers feel that it is safer to have the program do the auto-save after every change the operator makes than leaving it up to the operator to remember.
Even Final Cut Pro, Apple's flagship edit software, has built in auto-save *in addition to* the manual save commands. I have my auto-save in FCP set to every two minutes.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I get to my backed up files, they aren't syncing

After I reset my 3rd gen Ipod touch it won't sync anything, movies, music, or anything saved in my backup, my back up is up to date, any help ?
But it says I have backed up files,

Content you synced (or can sync) to your iPod via iTunes is not included in the backup.  This includes such things as music, movies, podcasts, etc.

  • How to find backed up files on iCloud?

Apple is giving me a replacement iPad, so the guy at the Genius Bar told me to back all my files up so that I can get my exchange product without losing information. A ton of really important documents are on some Apps I purchased, on my iPad. I set up an iCloud account today, and I downloaded iCloud onto my PC, and I've pressed "backup" on my iPad (I turned everything "on", so I'm guessing this means all my apps/data will be backed up onto my computer). I'm still really confused though, so I have a few questions:
    a) Where is all of this data being saved onto my computer?
    b) Do I have access to, say, the Notes I've backed up off my iPad on my PC?
    c) I went to iCloud.com, but I see none of my actual files on my account. Is this normal?
    d) How to I move all my backed up files onto my new iPad?
    Thanks!

    A. The data is not being saved on your computer. It is being saved in iCloud - assuming that you did setup everything properly on the iPad and did create an iCloud backup.
    B. Yes. Log into iCloud.com using a web browser on your computer and you can access your notes.
    C. Yes it is normal. You cannot see the files themselves in iCloud.com unless you are using the Apple iWorks apps, Pages, Numbers and Keynote. All other data is backed up in the cloud but individual files are not visible.
    D. Restore from the iCloud backup that you created with the old iPad.

  • Restoring Backed Up files in the program from the Restore Disk 1

My computer was having some serious issues so i decided to restore it but before that I chose to backup some of the files.  It (the program that came with my HP) gave me several options of things I could choose to back up like emails, documents, photos, movies, etc.
I chose to backup emails, browser settings, documents, etc to an external source (a docked hard drive).  When th process was done I saw that a backup with a date listed was showing on the hard drive.   I then went about restoring my computer back to factory.  Afetr all was said and done, I updated my computer back to where it was initially before the resore than went about restoring the files I had saved or backed up I thought.
I went into the folder that was was saved and foound a program listed that said RecoveryMgr.  I clicked and started what I thought was the process to restore my emails, documents, etc.  It completed but I found none of the backed up items I had tried to save.  I only found a folder on my desktop labeled System Recovery Files - shortcut.   What am i doing wrong?  I need those files back.

This is the procedure to restore back up files:

  • Indesign Post Script name changing to back up file name

    Hi all
I am in a pre press workflow that requires that I write a post-script file to a hot folder.
So saving as a post-script is the only option for our entire workflow to take place.
When saving the post script file from indesign , the name defaults to the back up file name which is
not similar to the original file name. We deal with an extremely large number of pages
and need for this file name to stay the same as the original not the back up. Manually putting these file names
in is a serious chance for error and takes too much time.
Does anyone know how to prevent the name from changing?
    Thanks for any help.

You should be posting to the InDesign or Acrobat forum. Please repost there giving them your version of InDesign and Acrobat. Detail you method of creating the postscript file. You should be printing to file using the Adobe PDF printer instance. I only suggest the InDesign forum, since the print dialog box in InDesign is not a standard Windows Print dialog box.

  • Why can't one add artwork to music saved as a wave file

i can add scanned artwork to an entry in itunes only if it is saved as an AAC or MP3 file but when i try and save scanned artwork to a wave file, it doesn't afford me that choice.....any reason that would be?

It's the way WAV file formats were designed years ago by Microsoft. It's not just itunes that can't add artwork to the actual file; no jukebox player software can add artwork tags to WAV files.
If you want artwork to display in itunes for WAV files, you can get the artwork from the itunes store if
    1) you have an itunes store account
    2) that album is sold is your country's itunes store
itunes will store the artwork in some special folders outside of the WAV files, and use the itunes database file (ITL file extension) to find them as needed.
For albums not in the itunes store, you have to do something like this

  • Saving ResultList as binary file

    Hi,
I like to store my ResultList as binary on file drive. The aim is to safe drive space and execution time for creating the report (XML or ASCII) for each UUT.
At the moment i had nothing figured out doing such stuff in TS.
Thats the reason why I started this thread to discuss with you what is possible or impossible.
Do not care about the programming language. LV,CVI,C++,C# or anything else is welcome.
    My idea sounds simple
1.) Creating : Take the address space of the ResultList and save it to disk. Problem: Size of Buffer !!
2.) Consuming: Take the Binary file and put it back to TS and let a the TestReport (XML, ASCII or whatever you want) Callback running.

    Hi Johann,
Thanks for your answer. But unfortunately it pointed not out what I really want to know. Or lets say what i want to discuss.
The major task is: Is there a way to safe a the complete ResultList (if you take a look into the TestReport-Callback it will be variable "Parameters.MainSequenceResults") as a binary-file without any modifiactions or generator/parser stuff.
The first aim of this procedure should be no loss of data by saving huge number of file drive space. The Second is saving execution time for generating the report file in the Testreport callback.
The last few "lunch-breaks" I have dealed with this question to figure out a useful solution.
I have found several things in TS4.0 that deal with this topic the serialization of data
One the one hand there is a Engine method "SerializeObjects" . I got this running (I hoped so) for binary data but for re-building
just for visualizing the data to an Operator. I found no running solution. On the other hand there is PropertyObject method
"Serialize" This stuff was working fine. But data always have been stored in INI-Format on file. So there was no great benefit
    on file size.
While looking on the TS4.0 poster on the wall i was focused on PropertyObjectFile. And with it found a resonable solution for this task. It is simple. Create a  PropertyObjectFile, do some settings like binary and path, get the parent PropertyObject from it, and ceate a new varaiable in the data folder. Now take the ResultList, clone and add it to your variable. The last step is saving.
A comparsion to the XML-Report (shipped with NI)
    Binary  <-->  XML
Filesize: 23 kB  <--> 2202 kB  that is a reduction of filedrive space of over 95% !!!
Executiontime 160ms <--> 1960ms  that means i have to spent only 8% of time as in XML
I have attached an example. It writes the report on Root C:\report.dat
For you and all other members feel free to test it and please tell me what you think about it.
If there is an other solution so lets discuss it.
    Greetings
